03:09hey that's not it then so I need a vacuum gauge Tyson let's just set it with a
03:14vacuum gauge get it close okay they don't have a timing pointer on this motor
03:19okay now we can make one
03:21well we probably had to get one on here for the guy yeah yeah so it's a water one
03:28and then we'll we'll we'll do it this is old man shit right here this is what we're
03:34gonna do we're gonna set timing with a vacuum gauge you want to use manifold
03:39vacuum not ported vacuum everybody do you know what the difference is ah you say no
03:46let me tell you what it is port our manifold vacuum comes straight off the it's
03:52below the throttle plates is the best way to explain it so anything below the
03:56throttle plates whether it's a throttle body or a carburetor manifold vacuum is
04:02below that ported vacuum is when you have to crack the throttle then you get
04:09vacuum that's usually on a vacuum advance is where you want ported vacuum
04:14but we're gonna go from manifold vacuum and it's that port right there that I
04:19want to grab yeah there's the other thing I do a lot now I make a crap load of
04:29noise when I work that's the same old man stuff that that's what I'm doing it
04:34already yeah yeah all right Tyson fired up
04:38let me see the vacuum gate I got 15 inches of manifold vacuum there my problem is is that I'm
04:47running out of see my vacuum advance here is hitting the manifold yeah it looks to me
04:52like somebody dropped this distributor there see how it's now it's up to like
04:55seven 16 or 17 what you want to go for is the highest manifold vacuum you got but
05:00see how my vacuum advance is hitting that it's hitting the man that's as far as I can turn it
05:05yeah okay let it off turn it off okay okay we're gonna let the motor cool down now thank
05:18goodness we haven't been running very long I did check oil boys and girls let us now discuss with
05:25you some of the we talked about the vitals with Dave and his shop the other day compression
05:30air and fuel and spark there's also very important vitals Dave you want to take us away oil and
05:37what else I would say some water some cooling yes cool cool day very good very good so hands down
05:44before you fire up something that you're trying to get running you want to make sure it's got both of
05:49those in there we got a little excited that it actually ran they don't think it's cam after all
05:55no timing no love that I mean love that for us uh no Dave's the oldest I got one older than him
06:03I only got carry the legacy on give a Nate give a Dave wait before you start something let's get
06:09these clamps on tight just getting the old eyes now yeah

06:19hope has prevailed and the timing was the issue so now we're gonna button up a lot of the other stuff

07:10the pointer yeah it's on the timing cover they uh they didn't put one on here so it's a guess
07:16and I mean I can get pretty close with a vacuum thing but now that we know we don't have a a flat
07:22cam great news I was gonna call them on Friday and be like here's the options of what it could be
07:26yeah just to brace them for a flattened cam because because we thought it was probably gonna be that
07:31I was oh look at this everything on this thing is just gonna look at this the power steering hose is
07:37in my way can we can we just cut a break here I'm gonna just see if I could just we're gonna custom
07:45fab this right out of my way there custom fab
07:49interesting thing because I don't think I've done this yet but these are two different styles of plugs
07:57this is the old tip iridium and this is just a standard uh electrode every tech in my shop has got
08:04one of these and if they don't I buy them one and there's a reason for it you cannot look at a spark
08:09plug with your eyeball and I know everybody out there gonna say oh we can't look at it with your
08:13eyeball day because those things are 60 plus years old but I'm telling you you can't so I'm gonna show
08:19you what you're supposed to be looking for in a spark plug man why they're doing this let's go to my
08:24microscope nice Florida didn't suck you back in yeah this is a great state to raise a family dude yeah it
08:31is everybody I want to show you something first off we talked about it we never look at a spark plug
08:39with your naked eye there now we'll show you what this looks like underneath and I can show you how
08:44to determine if an iridium tip plug is wore out see how this is nice and square here and do you see how
08:51that's starting to be around there now don't worry too much about all these deposits that are on here
08:56these are fuel deposits this is pretty common some of this is a little bit of oil burning but that's
09:03not uncommon what you're at what you want to see here is the roundness on that anoid now let me show you
09:09a standard plug this plug is totally wore out now we have deposits here and deposits here but here's
09:17the problem see how this is all rounded now I'm going to get a one that's not so wore out you see
09:23it's nice square edges here square edge that plugs not wore out now it's a little carbon foul you know
09:29this is out of our Land Cruiser and it's it's basically that's a brand new plug but it's just
09:35been the timing has been wrong the fuel is wrong so it's just starting to carbon up but that plug is
09:41fine this plug here if you pull a plug out like that time to replace it a lot of people would be all
09:46concerned about this build up on this that's nothing to be concerned about that's not that much to be
09:51concerned at that's oil residue but every plug is going to get that every engine burns oil I mean
09:56and you guys have seen my videos on a surface finish profile on cylinder walls and rings you have to
10:02burn oil if you don't burn oil you're going to burn out a set of ring yep so you know you do have to
10:07burn a little bit of oil so you're always going to have some of that on spark plugs I hope that helps
10:11everybody you care about this Dave let me show you some we've got X Y and Z now with this rollover
10:20fixture we can put a block in here and roll it over and we can get A axis A if we wanted to
10:25get five axis then we would get B that way we don't have that we don't get that on this machine this
10:30way up and down see so you'll sweep this and this is a telltale and it'll just show digitally how long
10:36it take you to feel comfortable on it probably a month I'd say he's an alien he's extremely intelligent
10:45we don't know what planet he's from yet you have to have like a little bit of that tech background and
10:53you also you just have to have a passion for it yeah preach it brother preach it thanks see ya get
10:59to watch how motors work see the insides what's better than that and then I've kind of colored the
11:05line so I can bump it so you can feel the compression that should be the notch you didn't put the pointer
11:12on huh it you'd have to take the water pump off to get one of them and then you wouldn't even be able
11:15to see it okay colored red yes that's your timing marks so we are a top dead center oh he's gonna be
11:22so stoked okay turn it off we got to reset our distributor okay ladies and gentlemen our
11:36distributors in the wrong spot we got two choices here boys and girls one we could lift the distributor
11:43up out of there and change its clock position which I'm more inclined to do I need a straight slot
11:48screwdriver there you go good and let's cut this one down here now there you go voila we want the
12:03distributor to be like right here you know what I mean that way it'll give us plenty of swing yeah we
12:08want it to go one notch that way you follow me yep so I'm gonna lift it up move it over
12:13a couple just one tooth I'm gonna try to feel that tooth when I lift it up out of there it's in
12:18the gear of the cam but it's it's it's not in the oil pump drive it's a it's a like a screwdriver it's
12:25that type of a fitting and so all you got to do to do that is just bump it and it'll drop down in so
12:31now what I want to do just bump that starter and that you'll see how that distributor see how it's not
12:37it's not dropped in all the way just drop right in yeah go ahead and just tap it there there you go
12:43okay nice all right now is that your first time yeah first time now this is one thing everybody out
12:53there is gonna wonder every good mechanic in this world does a ton of talking to themselves I've never
13:00met a good mechanic they didn't make a lot of grunt noises and and spent a lot of time talking to
13:05themselves it would have been nice if I had to remember where spark plug number one was but I'm
13:10going to start this one eight four three six five seven two is our firing order back up here just a
13:15second we'll get it right I just need you to bump we're finding a top dead center number one plug
13:22go yeah again again okay just bump I mean just I need about three inches bump bump oh that's close
13:34enough for me let's put two on there so that would be this one okay this is two yeah I think you've got
13:40a motor here that'll run fine yeah it sounds like it right great I think it'll be just fine I can get
13:45it there you go okay good we're just gonna cut all this out of here we'll clean it up later
13:50so this is what goes from the distributor cap take take your spark down to your spark plugs but
13:57boot was bad wire is bad which means could have been marking out on the manifold which would cause
14:03a misfire basically we think we got that motor that's running great distributor cap that was
14:08probably clock wrong and some old wires could be replaced we fix those things I think this cruiser is
14:17ready to get cruising okay now we're going to spark plug number one grab that you know what I'm saying
14:28I think we got it they mop right behind you here huh feel bad wearing it get some slippers to wear in
14:35your shop okay let's fire it up ready what a rip
