00:00Insanity is spending this kind of money, and these things are not cheap man, all fitted
00:06out like these are, they're not cheap. Spending this kind of money and then the manufacturer
00:11tells you change your oil at 20,000 miles. And then every 20,000 miles or two years
00:17after the initial visit. So this is what's got me kind of worried. They're saying the
00:22first oil change is 10,000 miles, and then every 20,000 miles or two years after the
00:27initial visit. I mean, that's just, that's, I don't like that. I don't agree with that.
00:35Isaac? Yes. Is that your camper out there? That is my camper. Man, that's a nice one, dude. Nice to
00:41meet you, Dave. It's a very, nice to meet you. Have a seat. Okay. Have a seat. I just wanted to talk to
00:45you. Okay. Apparently we're going to put a secondary bypass oil filter on that for you
00:50so that you've got that extra filtration down to that two micron level. Yes, sir. And I'm sure,
00:55have you read about that? Do you know what you're getting with that? I saw it on your channel
01:00first, and then I've read about it a little bit too. Right. But I didn't know about it. I would
01:04have done it sooner if I'd have known about it sooner when I first bought the van two years ago. But
01:10anyway. What concerns you about, I mean, why are we doing it? The emissions and just help the turbo
01:17and the motor. Yeah. You know, you're aware that Mercedes tells you to change your oil every 20,000
01:24miles. But I don't. You know. I change it myself every five. Yeah. Because it's easy. It's easy. And
01:33it's the cheapest piece of insurance for longevity on a motor. But I like overkill. Yeah. Well, I don't
01:40know. Maybe 5,000 is overkill. I wouldn't, you know, the only way to know that for fact would be to do
01:46an oil analysis on it, you know. And then you can track. I mean, it's a super sweet setup you got
01:52back there. Are you traveling around a lot in the parks and stuff? I'm retired and traveling.
01:58Nice, dude. So tell me some of the places you've been. You've been to Alaska? You've been up to
02:02Canada? I still want to go there. That's on my list. Yeah. But no, I've done all...
02:08North America stuff? All this side. The west side. California, Washington, Oregon. Wow. Did the whole
02:13Pacific Coast Highway thing. I plan on going east this fall. Appalachians. Everybody says wait till
02:20the fall. So I'm going to go this fall. And you're living my dream, bro. That's... It was my dream.
02:26How long have you been doing it? Three years. Wow. Yeah. All right. So here's the deal. The nice
02:33thing about this is we've installed them. Of course, I'm a firm believer in it. Anytime you
02:38can get... And this doesn't... This filters a small amount of your oil continually. Right. And you're
02:45getting that extra benefit of that. And you're getting that... Those little... Those soot pieces
02:50out of there. It makes a big difference. Yeah. It makes a big, big difference. I'm hoping. I mean...
02:53Yeah. I plan on keeping it. Here's what I would recommend that you do. After we get it on there,
02:59I think with this on there, you can probably go up to 10,000. But an oil
03:03analysis would tell you... Would tell me. Would tell you, hey, you've got this amount
03:07of soot. I mean, it'll flat tell you whether you're oiled. Well, it'll be easier to do that now
03:11because I also installed that little valve to change that. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. So I... You could just
03:16crack the valve and pour yourself like that. Yeah. So I plan on doing that. I'll do that. But... All right.
03:21It would have been nice to do it like before, I know. Yeah. Because then you would have said,
03:24hey, at 5,000, I've got this much garbage in my oil. Right. Yeah. But... All right. Well, we'll get it installed.
03:31We're going to do a video on it. So you'll have that for posterity, so to speak. And...
03:36I think it's awesome. I've been watching your channel for quite a while. I've had trucks and
03:41stuff too. But, uh, yeah, this is what I'm doing right now. So you just drove over here from Colorado?
03:46I did. Just for this. Jeez. I'm... I feel... But I love Salt Lake City. It's beautiful. It is.
03:52I mean... It is beautiful. I didn't mind coming back. Yeah. Well,
03:55we'll get her done for you so you don't have to sit here all day, but... Thank you. I appreciate it.
03:58Thank you, man. Nice meeting you too. Let's go get that thing installed.
04:02Okay. So we've never done one of these. We're doing a, uh, well, we've done it before, but not
04:08on a sprinter. And, uh, so we're going to put this secondary... Do you know about this thing?
04:12You know what this thing does? I know what it is, but have I... Here. Have I installed one on a sprinter? No. No.
04:19I don't think we have either on a sprinter, but, uh, what it does, I mean, it looks like
04:26a toilet paper roll, but it's a two micron filter. And what it does is you're going to take
04:33a pressure line and you're going to come off just a pressure or an oil pressure galley,
04:37and it'll, it'll trickle filter the entire oil system. When I say trickle, it does just a part of
04:46it. It's not, it's not like the main oil filter. Yeah. Yep. But its ability, let's get that open.
04:52Its ability to keep your oil clean on a diesel is amazing. It's pretty phenomenal. Yeah.
05:05That's it. When I was a kid, my dad used to have one of these and he had it on our old
05:11station wagon, but he used toilet paper and put it in there thing like that. But anyway,
05:16so the outlet or the inlet is pressure and then the outlet, they usually feed back like, you know,
05:22you just want to drop it back in. A lot of times they'll go through, you know, your tap,
05:26you can tap into the side of this. There you go. They've got an oil filter cap. They even gave you
05:31one. How sweet is that? Let's see if it fits. Then we'll be like, oh, that's just, that's just
05:37marvelous. Fits pretty good. Yeah. Well that's nice. Then you put the fit in and it just drains
05:44the oil right back in there. Perfect. And you can even see once you get it started,
05:48hook all this up. But what I want to do is I want to hold this like right here. Okay. And we'll be
05:52able to see how much oil is actually circulating at least at idle. Okay. Did they give you a recommendation
05:58for the oil pressure tap? Where are you coming off of that? Well, they gave me a nice cap for the oil.
06:03Oh, they're wanting to come. Well, that's pretty sweet to be honest with you. It's they. This is
06:09going to be easy. It was all get out. Yeah. Folks, you sprinter owners that are telling, you know,
06:14you got to change your oil every 20,000 miles, which is absolutely insanity. Put this oil bypass
06:19secondary filtration system in it. We're going to show you how easy it is, but cool. And then have you,
06:24you decided where you want to mount that bad boy yet? Right over, right over here, right there.
06:29Is that, did they actually come with some instructions or you just think like that's a
06:34super nice place to do it? Well, they, uh, the guy with Insane Diesel was here about five minutes ago
06:39and that's what he told me to do. Oh, okay. Well, I agree. I mean, it's, it's easily accessible.
06:45Yep. And you want to, if it was me, of course, you're going to put it up like that. So you can kind
06:49of take that out and let it drip a little bit. Yep. And not make a mess over there. Cool. Absolutely.
06:54Well, don't be nervous dude, because we're going to watch you do your very first one
06:57and the whole world's going to be watching. So here we go.
07:05This one, I don't even need a wrench. It's got a little,
07:09all these little quick release guys.
07:13There we go.
07:17Let that drain.
07:24I don't want to make a big old mess as I do this.
07:42Okay. Let's figure out where we're going to mount it.
07:59Okay. All right. I just marked where I'm going to put it right there. Put this mount.
08:05So that makes it easy. I can pull it off, put this down,
08:10mark my holes and drill them and get ready for the, uh, the hardware.
08:15Pull these inner fender out or this inner fender out so I can, uh,
08:19make sure I'm not going to drill into anything that's hidden.
08:23Looks like I am all good.
08:45Okay. So I got it marked. This is a, I call them a nutzer. Some people call them rib nuts. There's
08:50about a million different names for the same thing, but it got them. I'll drill a hole,
08:55use the supplied hardware, and it'll just thread in. So I'm going to go ahead and drill the holes
09:03and get those nutzerts put in.
09:04Go up to half inch.
09:24See, will that fit?
09:25Nope. Just slightly bigger. It says 0.52. Dang it. That's like 17 32nds.
09:37So this nutzer needs a 17 32nds drill bit. All I have is a half and then 9 16ths and 17 32nds is
09:47in between. None of the other guys seem to have one. So I'm just going to take my burr bit and open it up
09:51that 32nd I need. Look at that. There we go. Got my, uh, handy dandy install tool set up. Get it in there.
10:09This is one of those things I've done enough of them. I know the feel when it's done.
10:25There we go. Oh, actually, nope. Starting to get a little more. There we go. Right there.
10:32There we go.
10:53There we go.
10:59Oh, my studs are a little long, so I probably need to take and cut. Those bolts are a little
11:09long right there. I need to, uh, probably should cut them. I think I'll hit that inner fender and
11:14rub a hole in it. Okay. I'll find shorter ones. Yep. I found some shorter bolts and these are even
11:23washer head bolts, which is even better. Easier. Don't have a washer to deal with. Just thread that
11:31in and swap the other one.
11:36Okay. Let's see how that looks. Oh yeah, that's perfect. It's flush with the bottom of the
11:42nuts right now. That's what we want. Perfect.
12:04Now that we've got that bracket mounted next is to install this filter housing. At least bolted in
12:09good enough that we can figure out lines for the fittings that go in there. One thing I've learned,
12:15never seize these bolts to go in here because it's steel into aluminum. So we'll go put that in and
12:24figure out how we're going to run these lines.
12:26In and out. Perfect.
12:41All right. So now's the, probably the hardest part of this whole job is getting these fittings,
12:46these and fittings on the line. Never seizes your best friend when doing these.
12:50All right. So I have made this hose. This is the hose that runs from the oil filter
12:59to the other, to the new oil filter. It runs down in there. And now I am ready to take the return line.
13:06It's right there. I'm going to take my masking tape to mark the length I need and cut it and put the last
13:13fitting on it. Then I can put everything in for good. Let's see. So, so I want this a little long.
13:20So we can pull the cap up and move it out of its way, but not too long that it lands on any hot items
13:27and burns it. So we'll go right there. Get this out. Perfect. And just like that, pull this back off,
13:41cut it, get that last fitting on, and we'll be ready to put oil in this and fire it up.
13:50Okay.
14:02Ready to get started, period, use a seat, for most of the period, advise about the period,
14:12that will be useful. Take this.
14:17There we go. These fittings never sees is your best friend. You might come out looking like the tin man,
14:39one, but it keeps it all from seizing up, going together. And if there's a leak, which these fittings,
14:48about half the time you get a leak and have to pull them back apart and try again.
14:52The never sees allows you to reuse the fitting and not seize up.
15:04There we go.
15:04I got to pull this auxiliary filter back out so I can get the hoses both put on it
15:12and connect it up.
15:26There we go.
15:40Okay.
15:48I always like to take and compare oil filters, making sure we got the right one,
16:03because catalogs can be wrong. Just this little piece and help it. Oh, there it goes.
16:08I need that guy out of it. Look at that.
16:27There we go. Yeah, it's a good quality filter. It's tight on there. The cheap ones don't really,
16:37don't really do that. Kind of slide right on and they're loose.
16:39Ken, how did it go? It wasn't too bad at all. It was pretty straightforward. Obviously,
16:51it takes a little bit of time, but it's not overly difficult. It looks like you got it mounted up nice.
16:57Yep. Mounted right there. It's super easy to get to just with a, I believe it's a 3.8.
17:04Okay. Yep. 3.8 Allen right there on the bolt.
17:07Pull that filter off and you can change it.
17:10And then it's just come over here and spin this filter off pretty much how it was originally.
17:14Okay. And this cap comes off perfectly.
17:17So, so they're still able to use it and fill it up as needed.
17:21Yep. And so then it ties into the factory filter setup.
17:25Yep. It comes with a new cap. Okay.
17:27With that hole drilled into it. And then just replaces the oil fill with their oil fill cap.
17:35Looks great. Yeah. You've got, you've got good space over here.
17:39Exactly. Yep. That's the goal. Make it easy to replace.
17:41Yeah. So, yep.
17:42I'm just looking up how much oil to put in it now and we'll be ready to start it up.
17:46Beautiful.
18:16wow dude this looks great thank you and i mean this is easy i don't want to i mean you did a
18:29nice job of the install but i mean the simplicity of it is easy and this is definitely a do-it-yourselfer
18:34job oh yeah this is no doubt about it did you put some uh frame nuts in there to to mount that yeah
18:40yep that's cool and now you know he's got easy access there i mean that's so easy to get out
18:46of there and it can wipe up any drippage get a pretty good flow through here yeah you ready for
18:50me to start it yeah let's see what it is okay i gotta hold this in here because i don't want it
18:54to make a mess yeah there you go there's your flow so that's the idea you're taking a little bit of
19:05oil while the engine's running and you're circulating that and you're you're filtering
19:11it to a two micron level and it's as easy as that go ahead and shut it off
19:16that's all there is to it you'll uh extend the life of your engine with a filter like that
