00:00I welcome all the viewers of the Al-Hidha platform.
00:25I welcome all the viewers with Islamic greetings.
00:28As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
00:31May peace, mercy and blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, of Almighty God, be on all of you.
00:37I welcome you to a talk on the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
00:41I've divided this talk into four sections.
00:46The first is importance of the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
00:51The second is the important acts and deeds to be done during the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
00:58The third is the virtue of Arafah.
01:01And the fourth is Idul-Adha or Yawm-Un-Nahar.
01:06First, we'll discuss the importance of the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
01:12This is a forgotten sunnah of a beloved partner, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
01:17You may have sinned all year.
01:21You may have missed doing good deeds in the month of Ramadan.
01:25You may have missed the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
01:29You may have missed doing good deeds, doing Lerit Rukadar.
01:32However, this is your opportunity.
01:35Make the best of it.
01:37The first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
01:40Even if you have not sinned the whole year, maybe you did some minor sins.
01:45Maybe you did Ibadah in the month of Ramadan.
01:47Even you might have got the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
01:50Even you might have prayed the full night of Lerit Rukadar.
01:53Yet, you cannot afford as a Muslim the opportunity during the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
02:01Most of us Muslims, we are normally aware of the importance of Ramadan and we prepare ourselves.
02:09And I remember when I was a kid, more than 30 years back, when I was in school, about 45 years back,
02:17we used to prepare ourselves for Ramadan and we knew the importance of Ramadan,
02:23even of the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
02:26But we never heard about the importance of the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
02:33Alhamdulillah.
02:35Now, since social media has started, this is being discussed by the speakers.
02:40My time when I was a kid, when I was in school, when I just entered college,
02:45we never heard the speakers speaking about the importance of 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
02:50I remember the first time I heard was maybe about 15 years back in the social media.
02:56When we got involved in the field of Dhawa, more than 25-30 years back,
03:00that's the time we came to know about the importance of the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
03:06And it was about 15 years back that the first time I heard in the social media,
03:12a speaker speaking about the importance of the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
03:17And Alhamdulillah, year by year, it's increasing and more and more people are speaking
03:22about the importance of the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
03:25That is the reason I thought I will dedicate the major portion of this session today to
03:31the first 10 days of Jil-Hijjah.
03:34Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala takes an oath in Surah Fajr, chapter number 89, verse number 1 to 2.
03:44Allah says, Wal Fajr, Walayal in Ashr, by Fajr, by dawn, by the 10 nights.
03:55And the Mufassirin, they say, these 10 nights that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is taking oath of
04:02refers to the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.
04:06And in many languages, when you speak about the days, it includes the nights.
04:10When you speak about the night, it includes the day.
04:12For example, if I say in English, I spent 10 days in London.
04:17But naturally, it includes, I spent 10 days and 10 nights in London.
04:21Depending upon the context, it may include the full day, it may include part of the day,
04:25it may include the night, it may not include.
04:27Similarly, when in Arabic, the nights are referred to, it may refer to the night only,
04:34it may refer to the night and day put together, or it may refer to the day only.
04:37In this Surah Al-Fajr, Surah number 89, verse number 1 to 2, when Allah says,
04:45Wal Fajr, Walayal in Ashr, by dawn, by the 10 nights.
04:52The Mufassirin say, and it's also mentioned in Ibn Qasir, volume number 8, page number 413.
04:58And if we refer to the summarized version, the English translation, printed by Darussalam,
05:04it is volume number 10, page number 468.
05:09Ibn Qasir and many Mufassirin say, that these 10 nights refer to the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.
05:18And they agree, that these first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are better than all the other days of the year.
05:28It's even better than the last 10 days of Ramadan.
05:33But, it's mentioned here, Ibn Qasir, volume number 5, page number 412,
05:41that though the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best days of the full year,
05:49the last 10 nights of Ramadan are the best nights of the year.
05:54The scholars differ.
05:56Some scholars, few do say, that the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are better than the last 10 nights of Ramadan.
06:03There are few scholars who say, the last 10 nights are better than the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.
06:08But, the right opinion and the correct opinion is by Ibn Taymiyyah, Sheikh al-Islam.
06:14May Allah have mercy on him.
06:16And he rightly said, that the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best days in the full year.
06:24It is even better than the last 10 days of Ramadan.
06:28But, the last 10 nights of Ramadan, they are the best nights in the full year.
06:34Because, it has the Lairatul Qadr.
06:36It is the best night in the full year.
06:38So, the last 10 nights of Ramadan are the best nights because it has the Lairatul Qadr.
06:43And, amongst the days in the full year, the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are the best days in the year
06:48because it has the Yom Al-Arafah, the Day of Arafah.
06:54The second place where the Qur'an refers to the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah is in Surah Al-Hajj.
07:01Chapter number 22, verse number 28.
07:04Where Allah SWT says that they witness the benefits which have been provided.
07:10And, they celebrate the name of Allah SWT through the days appointed.
07:16Here, these days are referring to the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.
07:21And, Ibn Hajar Al-Hajjah, may Allah have mercy on him.
07:28He writes in Futul-Bari that these first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are the only 10 days in the full year
07:36where any Muslim can simultaneously perform all the five pillars, all the five harayad of Islam.
07:44If he wants to.
07:46Yes, he can implement on the Tawheed.
07:49He can offer Salah.
07:51Some it lists together in the first 10 days.
07:53He can give zakat if he hasn't given.
07:55Give obligated charity or give extra charity.
07:57He can fast and he can also perform Hajj.
08:03These are the only days in the full year where a person can simultaneously perform all the five pillars of Islam.
08:11It is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari, word number 2, Hadith number 969.
08:18Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him.
08:20He said that the beloved Prophet Muhammad said, there are no good deeds done on any other days better than done during the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.
08:35Done during these days.
08:38And, the sahabas, the companions, they asked, not even jihad?
08:44And, the Prophet replied, not even jihad unless a person puts in danger his life and wealth in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and does not return with any.
08:57That means he goes for jihad and he is martyred in the way of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
09:01That means our beloved Prophet Muhammad said, the good deeds done during the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are better than any deed done on any other days of the year, including jihad.
09:11Unless, if the person is martyred and he loses his wealth and life during jihad.
09:18That's the only one good deed which cannot be better.
09:22Otherwise, the deeds done on the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah are better than any deed done on any other day of the year.
09:30It is so important.
09:32And, unfortunately, this sunnah of doing good deeds during the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah is forgotten.
09:40In Sahih Muslim, it's further mentioned.
09:43In Sahih Muslim, point number 3, Hadith number 2747, when the Prophet was asked regarding fasting on Yom al-Arafah,
09:55the Prophet said, it expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.
10:02That means the most important fast after the first fast of Ramadan is fasting on Yom al-Arafah.
10:10It expiates your sins of the previous year as well as the coming year.
10:15There are some scholars who say that the fasting of Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is the most important because there's a hadith that the most important fast after the first fast is the fasting on Yom al-Arafah.
10:30But there's a different opinion.
10:33But the correct opinion is that Yom al-Arafah fasting is far superior because it expiates the sins of the previous year and the following year.
10:41Whereas fasting on Ashura expiates only the sins of the previous year.
10:46But there's unanimous agreement that these two fasts of Yom al-Arafah and fasting on Ashura are the two most important fasts after the fasting of the month of Ramadan.
10:59It's mentioned in Sunan Abdaud, word number 3, Hadith number 2437, that one of the wives of the Prophet said that the Messenger of Allah fasted during the first nine days of Dhul-Ajjah.
11:15And during Ashura and three days every month, the first Monday and two Thursdays.
11:22So from this hadith we come to know that the Prophet fasted the first nine days of Dhul-Ajjah.
11:28That means it is highly recommended to fast on all the first nine days of Dhul-Ajjah.
11:37One may ask, why not fast all the ten days of Dhul-Ajjah?
11:40The answer is given in Sahih Bukhari, word number 3, Hadith number 1991, where the beloved Prophet said that he forbade fasting on Eidul-Fitr and Eidul-Ajjah.
11:57Because these are the two Eids of celebration, of eating and drinking.
12:00So it is prohibited to fast on the two Eidayn, Eidul-Fitr and Eidul-Ajjah.
12:06That is the reason we don't have to fast the first ten days of Dhul-Ajjah.
12:10Though the first ten days are the most important days of the year, we only fast during the first nine days of Dhul-Ajjah.
12:16It is further mentioned in Sahih Muslim, word number 3, Hadith number 2679.
12:24The beloved Prophet ﷺ said that no one shall enter paradise except a believer and the days of Meena are the days of eating and drinking.
12:35That means a Muslim should not even fast on Ayya Mutta-Shirikh, the three days following the Eidul-Ajjah.
12:44That is the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul-Ajjah.
12:49Because these are the days of eating and drinking and feasting.
12:53So besides the Eid day, a Muslim should not even fast on the Ayya Mutta-Shirikh.
12:59That is the 11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul-Ajjah.
13:02It is mentioned in Sahih Muslim, word number 5, Hadith number 5118.
13:08That Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that during the first ten days of Dhul-Ajjah,
13:15a person who has an animal which he has to sacrifice, he should not remove his hair nor trim his nails.
13:22Based on this Hadith, a person who is sacrificing an animal,
13:26has an animal and wants to sacrifice on each day or the following three days,
13:32he should not remove his hair or trim his nails from the first day of Dhul-Ajjah until he sacrifices the animal.
13:41This restriction is only for the person who is sacrificing the animal himself.
13:47If a person has asked somebody else to sacrifice on his behalf, then the restriction is not there.
13:53It further mentioned in Musnad Ahmed, Hadith number 5446.
14:00Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, he said,
14:03That Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,
14:06The deeds done during the first ten days of Dhul-Ajjah are the most important deeds done in the full year.
14:15And that's the reason you should say the tahlil, the takbir and tahmeed.
14:22Tahleel is La ilaha illallah.
14:25Takbir is Allah Akbar.
14:26Tahmeed is Alhamdulillah.
14:28And it is mentioned in Fatul Bari, volume number 2, page number 462,
14:36that the takbirat mentioned there is,
14:39Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, There is no God but Allah.
14:52Allah is the greatest
14:53Allahu Akbar
14:54Allah is the greatest
14:55All praise are due to Allah
14:58The takbirat is mentioned in Fatul Bari
15:02Word number 2
15:03Page number 462
15:05Allahu Akbar
15:06Allahu Akbar
15:07La ilaha illallah
15:08Allahu Akbar
15:09Allahu Akbar
15:10It's also mentioned in Fatul Bari
15:16Volume 2
15:17Page number 65
15:19That
15:20Abdullah bin Umar
15:22And Abu Harayra
15:24May Allah be pleased with them both
15:25They used to go out in the marketplace
15:28During the first 10 days of Dhul-Hajjah
15:30And loudly they used to recite the takbirat
15:33And when the others used to hear them
15:36The sahabas
15:37They used to repeat on their own
15:39That means it is a sunnah
15:42During the first 10 days of Dhul-Hajjah
15:45To say the takbirat loudly in the marketplace
