Dawah: Duty and Honour – Dr Zakir Naik Dr Zakir Naik explains why Dawah is not just a responsibility but a great honour for every Muslim. Sharing Islam with wisdom and sincerity is a duty that strengthens both faith and the Ummah. A must-watch for every Muslim!
00:00Alhamdulillah, wassalatu wassalam, al-rasooli lawal alihi wa sahabihi ajmain, amma abad,
00:07a'udhu billahi min ashshaytanir rajim, bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
00:12Udu ila sabili rabbika bil hikmah, wal mu'azat al-hasna, wajajun bilati ahsan,
00:17rabbishali sadri, wassilli amri, wahallu al-ugdatin min lisani afkaukawli.
00:23My special elders, and my dear brothers and sisters, I welcome all of you with the Islamic greetings,
00:29As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi barakatuh.
00:33May peace, mercy and blessings of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala be on all of you.
00:37It's a pleasure and honor for me to be in Kenya, especially Mombasa.
00:43It's the first time in Mombasa.
00:45And I'm happy to be present in this city.
00:52I've heard a lot about it.
00:54And I hope we have good sessions today and tomorrow.
00:59The topic of this evening's talk of mine is
01:03Misconceptions about Islam, part one.
01:09It is the duty of every Muslim that he should do da'wah.
01:14Da'wah is compulsory for every Muslim.
01:17What is the meaning of the Arabic word da'wah?
01:20The Arabic word da'wah means to invite, to call.
01:24And in Islamic context, a doubt of Islam means inviting the non-Muslims towards Islam.
01:31I start my talk by quoting a verse of the glorious Quran from Surah Nihal, chapter number 16, verse number 125.
01:40It says,
01:41Invite all to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching and argue with them and reason with them in the ways that are best and most gracious.
01:55Here Allah is saying to the Muslims,
01:57Invite all to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching and argue with them in the ways that are best and most gracious.
02:06Allah says in the glorious Quran, in Surah Al-Imran, chapter number 3, verse 110.
02:11Allah says,
02:12Quntum khaira ammatin akhrijat linnas.
02:16O ye Muslims, ye are the best of peoples, evolve for mankind.
02:22Allah is giving us an honor.
02:25He's calling us Muslims as khaira amma, the best of peoples, evolve for mankind.
02:32Allah is giving us an honor.
02:34Whenever there is honor, it is always followers of responsibility.
02:38For example, in a school, a principal has got more honor than a teacher.
02:45A teacher has got more honor than a clerk.
02:49Similarly, in a school, the principal has got more responsibility than a teacher.
02:56A teacher has got more responsibility than a clerk.
02:59There is no honor without responsibility.
03:01So, in this verse of the Quran, in Surah Al-Imran, chapter 3, verse 110, Allah is calling us Muslims as khaira amma, the best of peoples.
03:10Don't you think we have a responsibility?
03:13The reply is given in the same verse.
03:15Allah continues and says,
03:16Because we enjoy what is good and we forbid what is wrong and we believe in Allah.
03:26Allah is calling us the khaira amma because we Muslims are supposed to enjoy what is good and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah.
03:34If we do not enjoy what is good and if we do not forbid what is wrong, we aren't fit to be called as khaira amma.
03:43We aren't fit to be called as Muslims.
03:46Doing da'wah, conveying the message of Islam to non-Muslim is a fard.
03:51And Allah says in Suley al-Asr, chapter 103, verse number 1 to 3, it is known as Rahe Nijjad, the path to salvation.
03:58Allah says,
04:00Allah is taking the oath of time.
04:04And he's saying, by the token of time,
04:07Man is verily in a state of loss, in khasara.
04:19Accept those who have folk right ideas, accept those who have faith, iman,
04:23those who have amal-e-salehah, the righteous deed,
04:27those who exhort people to truth, that is doing da'wah and islah.
04:31And those who invite people to patience and perseverance.
04:36So according to Suley al-Asr, for any human being to go to Jannah,
04:40there are many more four criteria required.
04:43Iman, righteous deed,
04:45watawah sohbil haq,
04:46inviting people to truth, that is da'wah,
04:48and inviting people to patience and perseverance.
04:50If anyone is missing under normal circumstances,
04:54you shall not go to Jannah.
04:56You may be a very good Muslim.
04:57You may be praying five times a day.
05:00You may be having mark on the forehead.
05:01You may be fasting in the month of Ramadan.
05:03You may be giving zakat.
05:04You may have gone for hajj.
05:06But if you do not do da'wah,
05:08according to Suley al-Asr,
05:10under normal circumstances,
05:11you shall not go to Jannah.
05:13If Allah wants to forgive you
05:14and put you in Jannah,
05:16that's Allah's prerogative.
05:17As Allah says in Suley-Nisa 4, verse 48,
05:20and Suley-Nisa 4, verse 116,
05:23if Allah pleases,
05:24he may forgive any sin.
05:26But the sin of shirk,
05:27he will not forgive.
05:28So if Allah wants to forgive you
05:30and put you in Jannah,
05:31that's Allah's prerogative.
05:32But in normal circumstances,
05:34if you don't do da'wah,
05:35you shall not go to Jannah.
05:37Only da'wah is also not sufficient.
05:39All four are equally required.
05:40Iman,
05:41faith,
05:42amal-e-sulihat,
05:43righteous deed,
05:45Allah,
05:45watawasau bil-haq,
05:46inviting people to thrut doing da'wah,
05:48and watawasau bil-sabr,
05:50inviting people to patience and perseverance.
