00:00When does salah become fardh for a person?
00:04Is it the age of puberty or age of 10?
00:07Number two, what should we do about missed prayers?
00:10I unfortunately missed prayers for years.
00:15Should we just repent or cover it?
00:17And if I must cover it, how many years should I cover?
00:20Because I became adult in 14 and now I am 15.
00:26Should I cover just one year or five years?
00:30First, the question posed by Iman from Afghanistan is that at what age does it become fardh for a person to offer salah?
00:45Is it the age of puberty or the age of 10?
00:48First, the name Iman is also of a girl, also of a boy.
00:53So, I don't know whether the question posed by the questioner, is it a male or is it a female?
01:00Is it a girl or is it a boy?
01:01We know that you are 15 years old, but we don't know whether you are a girl or a boy.
01:05Because Iman is a name used for a boy as well as for a girl.
01:08But in respect to what it is, the correct age at which the salah becomes fardh is at the age of puberty.
01:17And the age of puberty differs between different people, between different sex, whether it's male or female,
01:24whether you're coming from a cold country or a hot country, whether you're living in India or Afghanistan or USA, it differs.
01:31If you're a girl, the right age is at puberty when you start having menstrual cycle.
01:38A girl can start having menstrual cycle even normally it's between the age of 13, 14.
01:44Sometime it can be even 12, it can even be 10.
01:49I be a doctor, I'm aware that girls even at the age of 9, they start the menstrual cycle.
01:54So the day a girl starts having menstrual cycle is the day she reaches puberty and from that time it becomes fardh on her to offer salah.
02:02And for a boy also, so the average age may be 13, 14, sometime it can be late to the age of 15.
02:09And since you said that you read puberty at the age of 14, so from that time salah becomes fardh for you.
02:16If you're a boy but naturally from the time you start having pubic hair and the signs of puberty come.
02:20That's the time when salah becomes fardh. And for a boy also it's similar.
02:24It may be the age of 14, can be 15, can be 13. It varies between individuals.
02:30So as far as you're concerned, since you said that you read the age of puberty at the age of 14,
02:35then your salah becomes fardh from the age of 14.
02:38And you said that now you're 15. So you missed your fardh salah for one year, not five years.
02:43You're running a question that should you cover up or should you catch up or should you make up
02:49for the fardh salah that you have missed for the past one year or should you just repent?
02:54There are two opinions for this.
02:56There's one opinion which says that you should make up for it.
02:59And as many times as you offer your fajr or zohr or afr or maghrib waisha,
03:06at the same time you keep on offering an additional for the time that you have missed.
03:11This is one opinion.
03:13But the more correct opinion is that if you have missed the salah intentionally and purposefully,
03:21there is no expiation.
03:25A beloved prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, said,
03:27mentioned in Hadith of Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim,
03:30that if a person forgets to offer salah, there's no explanation.
03:35And the moment he remembers, he should offer it.
03:39Another narration says that if a person sleeps and doesn't offer salah,
03:44the moment he wakes up, the moment he remembers, he should offer.
03:47There's no explanation for that.
03:48The moment he wakes up, he should offer salah.
03:50So based on these and various hadiths,
03:53the prophet was very emphatic and clear that if you forget,
03:57if you miss your salah because of forgetfulness,
03:59or because you're sleeping in a fajr salah,
04:02you oversleep, so there's no explanation for it.
04:05And the moment you remember it,
04:08you should take it immediately,
04:09you should not wait till your next salah is there.
04:13Immediately, and Allah will not hold responsible,
04:16they're missing on that.
04:17So the second opinion,
04:19which is the correct opinion of the scholars,
04:22is that if you miss it intentionally,
04:26out of laziness,
04:27or saying, okay, I'll eat after and after,
04:29then the salah time is over,
04:30or you may it is further,
04:31and you may only offer once in a day,
04:34or you may not offer at all for many years.
04:36Because according to the second opinion,
04:38which is the more correct opinion,
04:40there is no explanation for the salah
04:43that you have intentionally missed,
04:45it is a major sin.
04:47So if you intentionally miss any salah,
04:50it's a major sin.
04:52And the only remedy for this is,
04:55that you repent to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
04:57you ask for forgiveness to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala,
04:59and you repent,
05:01and inshallah Allah will forgive you.
05:04And to compensate for that which you have missed,
05:07there is no explanation,
05:08but the scholars say,
05:10that you can increase your nawafil salah,
05:13your sunnah salah,
05:14the sunnah mwakadah,
05:16the sunnah gyer mwakadah,
05:17you increase that,
05:18and do more good deeds.
05:20For example, give more charity,
05:21give more of duration,
05:24feeth abilillah,
05:25so do more good deeds,
05:27which will compensate for the sins you have done.
05:29But,
05:30you don't have to repeat the salah you have missed.
05:32And this is the more correct,
05:35and the authentic opinion,
05:36which was even followed,
05:40by the second taliph of Islam,
05:42that is,
05:43Umar bin Khitab,
05:45may Allah be pleased with him,
05:46including his son,
05:47Abdullah bin Umar,
05:48and various sahabas.
05:49So there are various hadith,
05:52that we affirm,
05:53that it's a sin,
05:55and,
05:56there is,
05:57no compensation,
05:59like,
05:59don't have to repeat your salah.
06:01It's a sin,
06:02you have to ask for forgiveness,
06:03and this was the view,
06:04which was also done by Ibn Hazam,
06:06may Allah be pleased with him,
06:07even by Shaykh Islam,
06:08Ibn Taymiyyah,
06:09even by Ibn Qayyim,
06:10even by Shauqani,
06:11all these scholars,
06:12even by contemporary scholars,
06:13whether it be Shaykh bin Ba'az,
06:15Shaykh Utaimim,
06:15Shaykh Nasir Dalmani,
06:16all of them say,
06:17that if you miss your salah intentionally,
06:20then,
06:21you don't have to repeat it,
06:22you have to ask for forgiveness,
06:23and do more good deeds,
06:25for the charity,
06:26more of Nawaf al-Salah,
06:27more of the Sunnah Salah,
06:29and this is,
06:31the correct opinion,
06:32even those people,
06:34who say,
06:35that you have to read,
06:36they don't say that,
06:37once you read,
06:37it is like,
06:38if you have forgotten,
06:40and if you offer your salah,
06:41immediately,
06:41you will remember,
06:42there is no sin,
06:43they don't say that,
06:44if you have missed,
06:44and if you offer salah,
06:45there is no sin,
06:46they say that,
06:47it's a major sin,
06:48but if you read,
06:49then your sin becomes less,
06:50but the more correct opinion,
06:51is what I gave earlier,
06:53that you don't have to repeat it,
06:54because imagine,
06:55suppose,
06:56you realize,
06:57at the age of 50,
06:58that I should offer salah,
07:00and the time that you,
07:01had to offer salah,
07:02was when you became,
07:04an adult,
07:04when you reach poverty,
07:05maybe at the age of 40,
07:07so now you will say,
07:08for 36 years,
07:09I did not offer salah,
07:10now if I have to read,
07:12for all the 36 years,
07:13will I live that long,
07:15so maybe you say,
07:16okay,
07:17since I did not,
07:18read salah for 36 years,
07:19I will not read,
07:20for the rest of the life,
07:22so logically also,
07:23it doesn't make sense,
07:24you have to ask for forgiveness,
07:25inshallah,
07:26Allah will forgive you,
07:27you can read,
07:28as many more,
07:30sunnah salah,
07:31sunnah makadda,
07:32sunnah gyan makadda,
07:33tahajjud salah,
07:34and the other good being,
07:35like extra fasting,
07:37and giving mutuality,
07:39so this opinion,
07:40which is more authentic opinion,
07:42so for you also,
07:44you missed your salah for one year,
07:45because,
07:46you reached the age of 14,
07:48but you don't have,
07:49to repeat the salah,
07:50which you missed for one year,
07:52just,
07:53say to it that you increase,
07:55yana waafil,
07:56your sunnah makadda,
07:57gar makadda,
07:58offer ya tahajjud,
07:59offer,
08:00in the last one third of night,
08:02fast move,
08:05give mutuality,
08:06inshallah,
08:06may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala forgive you,
08:08and may Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala increase,
08:10in your blessings,
08:10hope that answers the question.
