00:00To the forefront as we get ready to race, here we go from Hangtown.
00:08Hymas has the whole shot second time this year, he's done that.
00:13Julia Beaumont right there as well, no, that's Villal.
00:17Great start by Chance, he had the perfect angle, he was in there, leaned that bike over and it was good.
00:22Now it looks like Julia trying to get up around Casey Cochran.
00:26That's actually, uh, Casey Cochran, yeah.
00:28Yeah, Cochran and his teammate Ryder DeFrancisco, the Rockstar Gas Gas Riders.
00:33Cochran is on the 40, the 25 is DeFrancisco, that's my bad, I thought that was Beaumont, it's actually Villal on the 16, Beaumont right behind him, the pair of KTMs.
00:43Yeah, good start by all these guys, Hayden Deegan's running around in sixth place, so he's got a good start.
00:47And they worked on this part of the track, they smoothed it up, so it's going to be an opportunity with that, some good lines and not too much water down.
00:54This is big for these kids bouncing back from injury, Cochran and DeFrancisco.
00:59Cochran missed all of Monster Energy Supercross, Ryder DeFrancisco missed most of it, a leg injury for Cochran, internal injuries for Ryder D, but they're strong right now.
01:09Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how these guys play, because normally these 250 guys, they're feet off, letting it hang out.
01:14I'm wondering, will they just kind of take like the 450 guys, ease into it, because it's going to be a hot day and 30 plus 2, it's a long time for these guys to be on the racetrack with this heat.
01:23Ooh, a little Supercross rematch up ahead of Deegan, Seth Hamaker makes the move on Tom V. Owl.
01:30So he is up to 4th on the Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki in green. Good battle.
01:35And we heard Tom said he needed to work on the beginning part of his day, the opening laps, and it seems like he's starting to have that same issue.
01:42Well, it comes right back at Hamaker, a bad line on the outside.
01:46Looks like we lost our leader, went off the racetrack.
01:48Uh-oh. So is that going to put Cochran into the lead?
01:51I believe it will.
01:54Second time in two weeks that Hyman's grabbed a hole shot that made a mistake while leading.
02:00We have what happened to the number 10. We'll give you the replay.
02:07Yeah, he's heading up towards this step up, and you can see they put a little bit of water down.
02:12Assuming he gets a little wide. Okay, so he just jumps off the racetrack.
02:15That corner starts going back towards the left right there, and he just went a little wide.
02:18No harm, no foul, but definitely costly. Lose that lead. JT.
02:23Casey Cochran there. Remember, he was the fastest qualifier at his first ever visit to this racetrack in 2024.
02:30And when asked last weekend, like, hey, what are the goals? What do you think about for 2025?
02:34It was very simple. He said, I just want to remind people what I'm about and who I am.
02:39I think this is a pretty good start to reminding everybody of exactly that.
02:43Yeah, thanks, JT. The broken femur in the offseason.
02:45Last year was his rookie campaign. Did have a podium at Millville, Minnesota, but was really a learning year.
02:51This was expected to be a year to move forward. The injury has certainly slowed that, but he is showing what he is capable of right now.
02:57But Chance Hymus, quick recovery and putting pressure on.
03:00Let's see if Chance get up the inside.
03:02Nice move by Casey, closing it off. And that was all set up by Chance just staying lower through those rollers.
03:08So he had that momentum. But look at Seth Handmaker who made his way up to third place. He's ultra aggressive. Good to see him.
03:16Yeah, Handmaker said he made some bike changes.
03:18The bottom box is Bial and Deegan battling for fifth, just behind this lead group.
03:24With DeFrancisco fourth. And then that trio of Cochran, Hymus, Handmaker, Eldegan looking to make the move.
03:31Yeah, let's see if he can get him. Tom let him have it. Hayden was over there.
03:34Tom was hoping that Hayden would come up a little short so he could close that door.
03:37But nonetheless, we saw Hayden do this last weekend. He just slowly made his way up in the beginning.
03:42Actually looks more aggressive today than he did last weekend.
03:45So see how quickly he can make his way up towards the front.
03:49That was a critical juncture in the top box. Hymus not able to make that move on Cochran.
03:54Has to go back to work, but also deal with the pressure from Handmaker.
03:58And what's funny is these two, the 10 and the 56, ride together during the week.
04:03They train together at the Lawrence's Dog Pound compound in Florida.
04:07So they're very familiar with each other.
04:09Yeah, but I feel like the heat's going to test their friendship on this.
04:12You know, as this race goes on, we saw him battling last weekend.
04:15But, yeah, just to see Hayden, you know, make his way up, kind of aggressive compared to what he was.
04:20I think a lot of that came down to who's in front of you.
04:23Now you've got Seth. He saw Seth pass him and then move his way up.
04:26So you might want to try to catch that toe as Hayden's trying to get around.
04:31Ryder D.
04:32Ryder D, excuse me.
04:33Yep. Old rivals from the amateur ranks.
04:35Two Californians here, DeFrancisco and Deegan, who's around the outside.
04:39Look at that drive out of the corner.
04:41Yeah, you saw that one coming.
04:43And if Seth doesn't get over, he's going to get passed again up the inside.
04:46Well, Seth made sure to get over there.
04:49Us riders, we've got eyes in the back of our head, trust me.
04:51Especially with the Yamahas. They're loud.
04:54So Handmaker was pressing.
04:56Heimus now is going to have to deal with the champion who, again, just shoots around the outside.
05:01Man, what a move right there.
05:03And, yeah, Seth made a mistake and he got passed.
05:06And I think for him, you know, I don't think he realized that Hayden was slingshotting around.
05:09But nothing less, he better catch a toe with that number one.
05:14So Deegan moving up, JT.
05:16Yeah, Deegan is on a charge here.
05:18And I think one of the most impressive, trying to figure out who is down there, looks like Ryder D and Vial.
05:23Ryder D and Vial.
05:23Oh, wow.
05:24Yeah.
05:25Vial and DeFrancisco.
05:26So that's going to send them all the way to the back, JT.
05:28Go ahead.
05:29Yeah, just adding on Deegan, which we'll get back to here.
05:31I think one of the most impressive things is he's able to take whatever line on the racetrack he wants and still make passes.
05:37That is the number one sign that you have more pace to burn.
05:42You don't have to take the preferable line.
05:44You can go exactly wherever the other rider isn't and still go faster.
05:47That means he's probably going to get out front and pull away before not too long, guys.
05:52Yeah, I agree, JT.
05:54And the luxury for him is he's able to explore these lines and realize, okay, this one doesn't work.
05:59And sometimes you just change the line just to make the other guy nervous.
06:02Well, he's sure making a lot of these guys nervous and also making up time as well.
06:06But right here, he'll get back and just stay on the inside, just stay on the outside of his roots.
06:12And he'll slingshot himself around.
06:16Definitely got this track figured out.
06:18These are the rivals.
06:19Hymas and Deegan had some words last season as they were battling.
06:24And there's been a little bit of it with the qualifying battles already this summer.
06:28But how about Casey Cochran starting to put time into them and pull away?
06:33Yeah, he was trying to remind us.
06:34I think he was reminding himself how good he is.
06:37It's good to see from that kid.
06:38And he saw a chance take a look back as he realized it's not his training partner behind him.
06:43It was that big number one.
06:44And you know where he's going.
06:47And pulled away a bit now from Handmaker.
06:49Handmaker telling me changes to the motorcycle was just too soft last week.
06:54He thought he would be better.
06:55He's running fourth right now.
06:56That is an improvement.
06:57But the focus is on Deegan versus Hymas.
07:00Uh-oh.
07:00Tom Vial is into the mechanics area.
07:03Definitely.
07:04He's going to the pit.
07:06He's done.
07:06Man, that's a big hit for this championship.
07:10You know, not only today, but for the championship-wise.
07:12If Hayden wins this race, that's 25 points.
07:14So, wondering what happened here.
07:16Wow.
07:17Yeah, this is Vial who was on the podium last week.
07:20Certainly expected to run for the title.
07:23And now the run is toward the front.
07:25Deegan and Hymas about to hook it up.
07:28Yeah, I like this line for Hayden because then he goes back.
07:30Well, he didn't do it this time, but he was going wider.
07:32So, he was able to cut this corner.
07:34And what it does, it straightens up this whole section.
07:36He's able to carry that momentum up.
07:39See if he works that in there.
07:43So, Deegan working on Hymas.
07:45Meanwhile, we'll try to figure out what happened to the 16 of Vial in this crash here.
07:51Left side.
07:51Oh, he loses the front.
07:54Then he just catches the back of Ryder D and pulls him down.
07:57That's why Ryder D was looking.
07:59But, yeah, Tom just lost the front.
08:00His elbow actually got caught up in his will.
08:04Now, I hope he's okay.
08:05There looks like he's all right.
08:07But, again, he has not finished the moto.
08:08What is going on up front?
08:09A three-rider battle.
08:12Hayden's trying to get a BOGO special right now.
08:14Two-for-one chance.
08:15Realized the number one.
08:16So, he needed to make his move on Casey and try to have a pick-and-roll situation going.
08:21And Hymas trying every line he can find.
08:24And also, Handmaker has climbed back into this battle.
08:27So, it's four riders and a fight for the lead.
08:30Yeah, you wouldn't think less than ten minutes into a race.
08:32This is very important for all these guys outside of Hayden to try to manage this.
08:37Because if I'm these guys, this is exactly what you need.
08:39Go into offense.
08:40Rough them up.
08:40Because we know if Hayden gets out front with this heat, his line selection, he's going to pull away.
08:46But, Casey's holding his own.
08:50Oh, you love to see it.
08:52Handmaker in this fight.
08:53Also, it's Shimoda now moving up to fifth.
08:59I think Hymas can get him.
09:00He's actually pulled away a little bit from Deegan.
09:03Yeah, I think Hayden made a little mistake.
09:05But, right now, it looks like he's starting to settle back in.
09:08And then he'll do another attack.
09:09So, that's when you have that confidence.
09:11JT mentioned the line selection, being able to go anywhere on the lines.
09:14But, also, being able to take a break and then regroup and attack him.
09:18And, I think that's what you're about to see from number one.
09:22And, Cochran responding to that challenge.
09:24Putting a few bike lengths between himself and Hymas.
09:27And, now, Deegan on the charge again.
09:30All right.
09:30Here's that line.
09:31So, he goes a little bit wider.
09:32Oh.
09:33Yeah, that's not what he wanted.
09:35What he wanted to do was cut in and get him a straight shot.
09:38So, he would have been on the insider chance.
09:39But, obviously, overjumping that didn't help him out.
09:43Yeah, and a rough landing there for Deegan.
09:46But, he's been pretty quick down here.
09:49All these guys are funneling towards that inside.
09:52Now, past the mechanics area.
09:56Oh, this is so good to watch.
09:59Don't count Shimoda out.
10:00He is starting to get this lead four-pack in his sights.
10:05There he is.
10:06Yeah, Joe.
10:07We saw him last weekend coming up through the pack.
10:10And, was able to get around all these guys outside of Hayden.
10:15Oh, fantastic.
10:16Deegan on the outside.
10:17Hymas on the inside.
10:18Deegan going to make a big power run.
10:21They almost collide.
10:22Man, this kid's got these outsides figured out.
10:25And, it's a power move when you get a slingshot and get passed by the outside.
10:31I mean, that's just a hit on chance.
10:32So, nice move.
10:33And, I'm assuming Hayden is probably going to try to do the same thing.
10:36Maybe right here to Casey Cochran if he gets a nice good run.
10:40JT.
10:41Just watching Hayden Deegan.
10:42I was expecting him to use the outside before that long run up Big Mo over there.
10:47But, he actually switched to the inside based off of where Chines Heimats was.
10:51Next lap around, if he has not gotten around Casey Cochran yet, watch for that.
10:54That long climb after the first corner section, he has so much momentum.
10:59It's a little dicey.
11:00He's on that scoop tire.
11:02It gets a little dicey at the top because he gets on the edge of the tire.
11:04But, he has a great line up that hill.
11:06Might happen right here.
11:08Cochran able to beat him to the inside.
11:10Yeah, I like that from Casey.
11:11He didn't roll over there.
11:12So, nice move by him shutting that down.
11:15But, he's working the edges on the inside.
11:19Yeah, Hayden's got a couple opportunities right here.
11:21As I mentioned, when he overjumped that good line, he can straighten up or try to get on the inside of Casey.
11:27But, you can see all that sand, how slippery it is.
11:31Then, he loses the drive for this jump.
11:33So, Cochran able to escape.
11:35Let's see, by the way.
11:36Can Hymas and Hamaker stay in this?
11:39Try to get back to Deegan.
11:40He's going to drop back down.
11:46And, these two, not strangers to each other in the amateur ranks either.
11:51Although, I feel like a broken record.
11:52Every time Deegan battles someone, you say, ah, he's a rival of Deegan's.
11:56Yeah, because they're all the same age.
11:57Just one is out there winning.
11:59But, still, this is a great route from Casey because he's able to fend off Chance Hymas.
12:03Which, he was the fastest qualifier last week and won our title hope.
12:07So, good to see him come off injury.
12:10Oh, Hayden trying to turn that outside into something as he gets to the inside here.
12:15Drag race through turn one.
12:18That's where Deegan made the move on Hymas.
12:21He's got the inside now.
12:23Yeah, he got it.
12:24And the lead.
12:24Yeah, he got it there.
12:25Is that the same line he used on Hymas for the most part?
12:30Yeah, I mean, but, really, I don't know if he was expecting to go around Casey.
12:34Casey kind of laid up a little bit.
12:35Allowed that pass to happen a little bit easier.
12:37Nonetheless, he was going to the front no matter what.
12:40That's Hayden Deegan, that is.
12:41Why would Cochran not be fighting him with everything he has in that situation?
12:45Well, sometimes, like, when you're young and not being in this situation,
12:48things start happening quick.
12:49And, you can start to see him lose that toe.
12:51So, one of the things you try to do is breathe and relax.
12:54Maybe he has a little bit of arm pump.
12:57But, anything that's not right, when you've got the number one around you,
13:00he's going to get passed.
13:01So, we'll see how Casey recovers after this one.
13:04Meanwhile, Haley has a report of the 16 of Villal, who's out of the moto.
13:08Haley?
13:09Yes, I'm back here at Red Bull Factory KTM.
13:11There you can see Tom Villal's bike being worked on.
13:13Because the plan is, he is going to race unless we hear otherwise.
13:17He actually came straight back to the pit area.
13:19As of right now, team personnel is saying he's just scratched up.
13:22But, he may go be inspected by Alpinestars Mold Medical for just a full clearance
13:27before going out for that second moto.
13:28I'll see what I can find out additionally.
13:30Thanks, Haley.
13:31Yeah, I would hope he could come out for moto too and try to salvage something.
13:35As Deegan, look at the gap he has pulled in this first lap out front.
13:40Very similar to what we saw last weekend.
13:44You know, when he's able to catch these guys, he's able to just pull a gap
13:48and almost demoralize them a little bit.
13:50We lost.
13:51Oh, Joe's got around Seth.
13:53Or we lost Seth.
13:54Wonder.
13:55Joe is all over.
13:56Hymas now for third.
13:57And, yeah, where is Hamaker?
14:00And then Hamaker's teammate, Kitchen Six, Bomair, Masterpool, Moseman, Marchbank.
14:06That's top ten.
14:07Battle of the Hondas.
14:09Shimoda on the inside, James.
14:10Yeah, Joe said, I can do it too.
14:12Hayden, you ain't the only one that can pass people on the outside.
14:14So, there you go.
14:16Unfortunate for Joe, hopefully he can get around Casey and maybe put in some good laps.
14:20But it kind of looks like it did last weekend.
14:22It had that pace.
14:23But once you lose the toe to number one, it's just hard to catch him close that gap back down.
14:29Yeah, take Cochran out of the picture.
14:30And this is startlingly similar to the first moto last week.
14:35Hymas strong early.
14:37A couple of mistakes.
14:38Loses the lead.
14:39Shimoda and Deegan work their way up in formation.
14:43But for Casey Cochran, who, by the way, I believe his deal is up this year.
14:47He's a bit of a free agent.
14:48Really showing teams what he's capable of.
14:51Again, this is only his second professional season.
14:54So, a great ride by the 40.
14:58Yeah, nice recovery by Casey.
15:02And it is Hamaker still there.
15:05In fifth.
15:06Just lost some distance but did not lose track position except for Shimoda.
15:10And Levi Kitchen, who needs a rebuild after a rough go of it last week with a bike problem in Moto2.
15:17He's in sixth of our master pole.
15:19Bomer, Moseman, March Banks.
15:22Halfway through this moto.
15:26Reminder, Monster Energy available now.
15:30Second place might be available now for Shimoda.
15:32He's starting to close.
15:34Yeah, Joe's starting to close on him.
15:35And I think it would be critical for him to, if he can get around.
15:39Hayden, he pulled that gap in that one lap.
15:41But then it kind of stays the same.
15:43So, maybe Joe can get around.
15:46Casey, he can just stabilize that gap and maybe have a chance towards the end.
15:50But that's going to be hard work.
15:51Casey's riding really good.
15:53On the rock start, Gasgas.
15:54Was a Husqvarna rider.
15:56They moved him over.
15:57That's really a sister operation.
15:59Gasgas and Husqvarna.
16:00And, yeah, he's looking for room.
16:07Oh, that worked.
16:09Yeah, and even if he's not able to pass him, it just opens up.
16:12And if he hits this corner, out this finish line lands right,
16:15he might be able to have a chance to square him up and get on the inside of Casey.
16:19Casey did the defense, but now Joe's going to switch him up again.
16:23That's a good run by Casey.
16:25Joe has to go to the inside.
16:27Give you an update on the fly racing riders in this field.
16:30Got the good-looking gear there on Cochran in second.
16:33Hymas fourth.
16:35Then he got the Bar-X Toyota of Redlands, Yamaha riders Schwartz and Ross.
16:40And they're 11th and 16th.
16:42DeFrancisco, who went down with Vial after running third early, is 20th.
16:47Trying to move back forward after the crash.
16:49I don't think that was actually DeFrancisco's fault.
16:52He got bumped when Vial went down right here.
16:57Yeah, it was after the rollers.
16:58And when Tom went down, I think his hand went into Ryder D's back wheel.
17:02And it was a slower part of the racetrack.
17:04So probably Hans was not on the clutch.
17:06Probably stalled the motorcycle and he just fell over.
17:08So definitely not his fault.
17:09Just a tough break for him.
17:11Hard hit by Joe right there.
17:15Cochran doing a great job.
17:16I mean, you have the likes of Hymas and Hamaker putting pressure on.
17:19And he has distanced himself from them.
17:22Still going to deal with it from Shimoda, though.
17:23The rider out of Japan.
17:25Yeah, what's impressive about Casey is that, yeah, he's holding Joe off.
17:29But he's not holding Joe up.
17:31Meaning, like, he's not allowing the guys behind him to, you know, catch him.
17:35So sometimes when you get a rider out there, you're a little bit slower.
17:38And the guy's faster.
17:38They start blocking him, slowing you down.
17:40Casey's not doing that.
17:41He's just protecting his line, which is great.
17:43Bottom box battle just outside the top ten.
17:47You have Jeremy Martin and Jordan Smith.
17:50Good to see Jeremy back on that number six two-time champion of the class.
17:54We thought he was going to retire.
17:56Instead, he's back for at least the first three races this summer with his old championship squad.
18:00Star Racing, top box.
18:02Shimoda dances his way down to the inside and takes second away.
18:06Yeah, I think Casey was probably thinking Joe wasn't going to be able to pass him since he had the inside.
18:11Joe had some other plans and got him before this section.
18:14So nice, strong move by him.
18:18See what he can do.
18:19Now it's 5.7 seconds.
18:21See if he can at least stabilize that gap or close it.
18:25Joe's going to be labeled Mr. Second Place here.
18:28Looking to start the year with three straight seconds to Deegan.
18:31That bottom box, meanwhile, as for Martin that we were talking about,
18:36that's an improvement over last week.
18:38He's hovering on top 20, now near the top ten.
18:40Let's get more of the 30 from JT.
18:43Yeah, we're just thinking about Joe Shimoda.
18:45He and Hayden Deegan, obviously they've gone one-two so far throughout this series.
18:50But the impressive thing about that is they've been the only two that can systematically move forward.
18:55If you look throughout the pack, Handmaker, Climus, everybody else has kind of been stuck where they start.
19:01These two, regardless of where they start, have been able to get to the front.
19:05That bodes really well for them moving forward because they seem to have the pace advantage and they can also pass where nobody else can.
19:13Yeah, that's a great point.
19:14And it's really big for Joe because that was one of his downfalls.
19:19As I said, trying to pass people is very, I wouldn't say nice, but sometimes you've just got to be aggressive.
19:24Listen, we know Hayden's really aggressive.
19:26So to be able to see Joe in three motos now and make his way up through the pack just shows that he has the speed.
19:31But he also has the right mindset that he wants to move forward and try to attack for some of these wins.
19:37Checked in with Shimoda this morning.
19:39Said they threw a lot of different things at the bike in qualifying last week.
19:42But he's pretty happy with the motos.
19:43Didn't need to make huge changes for round two.
19:45Trio of teammates battling here.
19:48Handmaker, Masterpool, and Kitchen on the Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki's fifth, sixth, seventh.
19:54Yeah, and I believe Ty was actually able to get around Levi because Levi was ahead of him behind his teammate in Handmaker.
20:02So kind of surprising to see Seth go back like that after that start, making his way up.
20:08Because he was able to pass Hayden and a few other guys.
20:10Now he's starting to go backwards.
20:11And I'm equally surprised to see Masterpool moving up because he is ill today.
20:15And we're talking about probably around 100 degrees to temperature outside.
20:19I talked to his dad this morning.
20:21Said he was not 100% last week.
20:23Really bad this week.
20:25And he said full salvage mode for points.
20:28And instead, he's charging on the 26.
20:31Yeah, but, you know, what happens sometimes, especially when it's hot out there,
20:34it's almost like everybody's going to rot like they're sick.
20:37Meaning these guys aren't going to go wide open.
20:39So unlike other weekends where it's not hot, I believe these guys are out there.
20:43Everyone else, they're rotting like they're sick because they're trying to save energy.
20:47And that's going to allow Ty to be able to somewhat stabilize his thing.
20:51And now he's starting to move forward.
20:52Yeah.
20:53Oh, he's riding really well here.
20:55He's on the inside of this right-hander.
20:57And he takes the measure of his teammates.
20:59So Masterpool up to fifth.
21:01That was a beautiful line by Ty.
21:04Nice, smooth line.
21:05I always felt like either when you're injured or you're sick, you find those good lines like that.
21:10I don't know if you just slow down.
21:11The mind slows down.
21:12But you find some good lines around the racetrack.
21:14And he's making his way up.
21:15He's right on the back of Chance Hymus already.
21:18And then Kitchen now leaning on Hamaker.
21:20And Kitchen needs this.
21:21He's got to get some momentum going, James.
21:23Yeah, absolutely.
21:24Tough break last weekend.
21:25Not the good first motor he wanted, but then the second motor having the DNF not the way he wanted to start his year off.
21:32And then he came out with the haircut, the fire hairstyle.
21:36So you better bring the heat out here even more than what it already is.
21:40Then at the back of this battle, Michael Moseman.
21:42Oh, that is Hymus off the track.
21:44Hymus off the track.
21:45So Masterpool around him.
21:47And here comes Hamaker.
21:49Yeah, Chance has been having the struggles with the racetrack.
21:51I guess it's not wide enough.
21:52He's probably thinking his head.
21:53Is this regulation size out here?
21:55I keep going off the track.
21:57Oh, man.
21:58Hymus, it has come undone.
22:00So that Kawasaki trio goes by.
22:02Look at Levi Kitchen on the 47.
22:04Fighting and makes the move on Hamaker.
22:08Yeah, Levi saw his teammate go.
22:10So, you know, sometimes you can tell.
22:12And Seth is definitely not as aggressive with what he was earlier.
22:15So now with Chance going out, now these guys sniff the podium.
22:19It's right here.
22:20Moose tie up into third place or fourth place.
22:23And you got Casey Cochran right in third.
22:25So might have a chance for seven minutes to go.
22:28Yeah, let's look at the gaps here.
22:29It's only about a second now between Masterpool and Cochran.
22:35This was not what I thought we were going to get from Masterpool today.
22:38Meanwhile, Hymus has now been passed by Moseman as well.
22:42Moseman, a local, grew up riding this track.
22:45So good to see him back after several years out with injury.
22:47And Hymus all the way back to eighth place.
22:51Yeah, and that's going to be a tough break because we've seen this happen in the past.
22:54And that's why I was really impressed with Chance last weekend.
22:57He went off the – when he went down, he was able to get back up.
22:59And he was still battling for that, you know, the podium.
23:02So to see this happen, I'm sure it's tough for him because he was at one point leading.
23:06Now he's out and he's riding around in eighth place, Haley.
23:09And for Casey Cochran, exactly.
23:12He is looking forward to this season, riding these tracks for the second time.
23:16Last year he was learning so much.
23:17And when I asked him, did you get everything you wanted out of 2024, he said yes.
23:21But most specifically, I know what it takes to lead laps and be out front.
23:26And the fact that he's maintained this position here, this has been great for Casey Cochran.
23:30Yeah, thanks, Haley.
23:31He has ridden like it's not one of the first times he's done this.
23:35No, I mean, I'm really impressed.
23:37Listen, you got to have – this is the first time he had the fastest qualifying last year here.
23:41He really broke out with that speed.
23:42So, again, when you're watching –
23:45Oh, is that Jeremy Martin in that bottom box?
23:48Oh, you hate to see that.
23:49Yes, it is the sixth of Martin as in the big box that is Masterpool battling Cochran.
23:55But Jeremy in what he's calling the cherry on top of the sundae,
23:58he's just trying to have fun out here and now out.
24:01Hope he's okay.
24:02Yeah, I can tell where he's at.
24:04You can look at his shoulder.
24:05That's a tough place to go down.
24:06He's right in front of us.
24:08So, out.
24:10And look at Masterpool looking for running room.
24:15This is for a podium in the moto.
24:20Yeah, Casey knows if you just get to that inside and block him,
24:24then those guys won't be able to get around you.
24:25But Ty's starting to get impatient because now you can see Levi coming up.
24:30Levi just want to try to get both of them.
24:31They keep playing around.
24:32Oh, Masterpool puts himself on the outside to inside and makes the move.
24:39Yeah, Casey's starting to labor a little bit.
24:41It's hot out here.
24:42So, being out all year, it's to be expected.
24:45It's still a great ride for him.
24:46But if he doesn't watch out, the number 47 is going to get him as well.
24:49Yeah, it reminds me of Julian Beaumere last week who led for a bit, thought for sure he'd podium.
24:54But this 250 class is relentless.
24:57And now it is Kitchen looking to take fourth away.
25:00Yeah, Levi should have the inside down here.
25:02But, no, Casey closing them off.
25:06There you go.
25:07Now he's going to have to get out of his burn.
25:09But still fighting.
25:12Now, Kitchen couldn't get that triple.
25:14Look at this, Cochran.
25:15He might get Masterpool back.
25:17Yeah, Masterpool didn't get the triple either.
25:18So, Casey almost got him.
25:20Oh, Kitchen.
25:22Oh, that was beautiful.
25:23That was a new line.
25:24I haven't seen anybody take that.
25:26Got to keep that one for the back pocket.
25:28Power move out of the corner for the 47.
25:30Takes fourth away.
25:31All right, this is the Levi Kitchen we expected to see last weekend at Fox Raceway round one.
25:40And he still has a shot at his teammate for third.
25:43Yeah, and if you know you got a little inside scoop, you know he's not feeling well.
25:46So, maybe put a little bit of pressure on him.
25:48I'm sure he'd be happy for just a top five.
25:50So, right now he's in that third spot.
25:54Yeah, I forgot these guys trying to keep the elements under wraps.
25:57But you're not going to do that when the guy's got a bunk right next to him in the truck.
26:00Yeah, when he's coughing all over you in between motos.
26:02So, you kind of know the secrets.
26:07Hamaker now pressing Cochran as well.
26:09Still three and a half minutes and two laps to go.
26:18Deegan and Shimoda are gone as Hamaker makes a move on Cochran.
26:22Yeah, that's three passes in the last lap.
26:26So, Casey has to hold on because he's got another one.
26:29Michael Moseman coming behind him.
26:32As you mentioned, that's what's hard about this glass because it's so deep.
26:36Yeah.
26:36And all these guys are running at the same pace.
26:38So, when you start, when you're losing it, man, they come and train packs.
26:43Yeah.
26:43I mean, 25 great minutes for Cochran.
26:46And look who it's going to result in.
26:47He's about to get past.
26:49For six.
26:50There's Moseman.
26:55Moseman can't quite get it done, JT.
26:57Well, you see Cochran just starting to lose the sharp end of that pace.
27:01And I would say the same thing has happened to Chance Hymus, who's dropped back to ninth
27:05and is under a ton of pressure from Julian Beaumere.
27:08If we are looking for what does the heat do to you, will we be able to visibly see it?
27:12This is what it looks like.
27:14You just can't hold that lap time when you start dropping back through the field when you get hot.
27:18Yeah.
27:19Yeah.
27:19And to your point, JT, looks like Moseman's about to finish the pass.
27:25He does on Cochran.
27:26So, now Cochran all the way back to seventh after running up front earlier.
27:30Yeah, that's tough.
27:32But in case you still look at the positive, I mean, it's still hot, still a good ride.
27:36I mean, he had the pace and, yeah, just tough.
27:40What is the old saying that the team managers go with?
27:42We can work with speed.
27:43Cochran showed he has speed.
27:45Yep.
27:46Qualifying and by leading early.
27:48This, meanwhile, is what the total package looks like.
27:50You were pretty intrigued when you looked at the lap charts even last week.
27:54It's not just speed for Deegan.
27:55No.
27:56Actually, the first moto, Deegan, was Hayden was like the fourth fastest.
28:00You know, and I think that's what the cool part about him is that he's not beating those guys off his speed.
28:06I mean, even this moto, Joe is actually closing the gap down.
28:09But it's this.
28:10He's taking the chances out and he's able to attack when he needs to.
28:14And he's out front again.
28:16And making it look easy for the now two-time SMX world champion.
28:21And those SMX playoffs will return starting September 6th.
28:26Get your tickets to history.
28:27Go to supermotocross.com.
28:30Kicks off at Z-Max Dragway, part of the Charlotte Motor Speedway complex.
28:35Big gap between Deegan and Shimoda, but an even larger one back to, it should be Masterpool in third,
28:43although he is dealing with his teammate, Kitchen.
28:46And it changed.
28:47Yeah, Levi got around him.
28:49As I mentioned, he knows the secrets.
28:51He knows Ty's not feeling good.
28:52And Joe must have had a bad lap that last one because I looked earlier in the lap,
28:56and he actually got the gap down to five seconds.
28:58And so he also made a big mistake, and he lost that time.
29:00But nonetheless, good to see these guys up here.
29:03Even a good ride by Ty Masterpool and Levi to not the best start, but to keep making his way up.
29:08And when you start looking at Chance Hymus, you know, a title favorite, you know,
29:12at least to go up against Hayden to be one of the threats,
29:15good to see Levi, you know, rebound out for what we saw last weekend.
29:21Send it down to Haley with more on the rider up to third.
29:24It's the chef.
29:25And the difference between working really hard and going all-in is small,
29:28but it's everything.
29:29We know him to be a frontrunner, but this year he's made big changes.
29:32He's put on weight to be stronger.
29:34He's hired a nutritionist, got his overall health figured out,
29:37specifically his allergies, and not just that, but he's hired a mental coach.
29:41So Levi Kitchen, good to see him really coming alive in this moto.
29:44Boy, Haley, when I hear that, I just think about the investment.
29:47That is money out of his own pocket that these riders are spending to try to get to that next level
29:53because that's really the 250 class.
29:54It's both now but also establishing yourself in the future.
29:58He's taking no chances, Kitchen, to try to get to that next level.
30:03Yeah, I mean, ultimately, the goal is to be racing up against Jet Lawrence.
30:07Right.
30:07And for all these guys, if you go back just three years ago,
30:10we saw Levi be able to beat Jet Lawrence in this class just straight up.
30:14You know, so now you look at Jet Lawrence's powerhouse winning everything.
30:18These guys have a goal in front of them, and they see the guy that they're going to be chasing.
30:22A couple years ago, he was racing with him.
30:23So whatever it's going to take, they're going to have to figure it out.
30:26And good to see Levi investing in himself.
30:29How about Michael Moseman here, the Monster Yamaha Star Racing Machine?
30:32It was a huge crash at this track, his home track.
30:37I thought that might have been the end.
30:38We did not see him for a long time.
30:40Multiple concussions.
30:42And then a crash, I believe, while practicing with this team.
30:45Came back for Supercross last year.
30:47He's getting ready for outdoors.
30:49Broken neck.
30:50Twyye wears the neck brace, which is pretty rare to see on the track these days.
30:54And the doctor said that was very close to being a catastrophic neck injury.
30:59But he didn't want to give up on it.
31:01He wanted to have a new approach to racing and see how it would go.
31:04He's really focusing on the consistency.
31:07And he's been quiet the last couple of weeks, but the results have been good.
31:10Eighth last week.
31:12I believe it was top five.
31:13That's the Salt Lake finale for Supercross.
31:15And look at him go right now.
31:16Yeah, and he looks good.
31:18I mean, he was the fastest rider on the racetrack.
31:20You know, by a couple tenths the last lap.
31:22And by his body language, I mean, he's not laboring.
31:24And he has a chance that he should be able to get Ty Masterpool right in front of him.
31:28So that would be a good result for him.
31:30And a lot of these guys, I mean, again, it really comes down to a start.
31:34And it's good to see Michael and these dudes up here.
31:36And I believe with the heat, the start's not as important because the guys will start fading towards the end.
31:41So you might be able to make some passes up.
31:43And you're starting to see that with Michael.
31:45And remember, with the two-moto format, this pass could be critical.
31:48Well, imagine Moseman making the podium at his home race here at Hangtown.
31:52Fifth right now.
31:54Put the two motos together.
31:55He's certainly a player for it.
31:57A lot of fans to cheer if that happens.
32:00Yeah, I'd like to see that happen, especially when you see these guys that return off injuries.
32:04Like, you know, look, we all look up the Jet Lawrence.
32:07It's heroes to a lot of these kids.
32:08But I look at guys like Austin Fortner, guys that never quit, you know, Michael Moseman, you know, even Ty Masterpool, Seth Handmaker.
32:16These guys are my heroes because they have that attitude or where most mortals would give up.
32:21They never do.
32:22And they continue to come out here and fight.
32:24And that shows a lot of grit.
32:25And those are the guys that you want to see have that success.
32:29Masterpool fighting off the pressure from Moseman at the moment.
32:34No pressure at all with a nearly 10-second lead for Hayden Deegan.
32:41I don't even know if we can say this is a danger zone right now.
32:43He's just in his own zone.
32:44Yeah, he's in his own zone.
32:46Yeah.
32:47White flags out, James.
32:49Jersey untucked.
32:50Get a little more ventilation on a 100-degree day.
32:53Whatever it takes.
32:54You know, he's just going so fast.
32:55Jersey can't even stay in.
32:56So whatever it is.
32:58But, you know, again, what happened when those guys, if they don't, that was weird.
33:04He was, like, sitting down right there.
33:05But if those guys don't attack him, if they allow him out front, we've seen him be able to pull gaps,
33:11like chunks of time within one lap.
33:13And that's gnarly.
33:15And when you look at the lap times, I mean, he's about less than a second faster than Joe.
33:19So it's not like he's going two, three seconds faster.
33:22But when he makes those passes and he's out front, it might as well be.
33:25And he cruises from that point.
33:27It might not be the danger zone.
33:32It might be his own zone.
33:32But it is certainly dangerous to see this type of dominance early.
33:37Not good starts.
33:39Sixth, seventh early in these first three motos of the year.
33:42And by the end of the moto, look at this.
33:44Cruise mode.
33:45Yeah, and when you want to try to, you know, out-condition him or you think maybe the heat will get to him,
33:51he's in recovery mode as he's pulling his best chance high misimpression right now.
33:56We might need to check the, I don't know if this track is regulation stops.
33:59These guys are going all off the racetrack.
34:01But out of bounds.
34:02Yeah, but that's just him cruising.
34:05Probably got a little laxed over there.
34:07But take a look back.
34:08He's still eight and a half seconds behind you.
34:09Now, Shimoda and the rest of the field covered.
34:13And is it too early to start already teasing that, we believe, a year from now?
34:18Hayden Deegan's probably going to be in the 450 class.
34:21And what a showdown looms there as he keeps putting resume bullets up in the 250s with dominant rides like this.
34:29No, I mean, if he keeps doing this, then, yeah, he's going to be up in that.
34:32And you're talking about a contrast in style.
34:35Boy, that would be the heavyweight title fight that were.
34:37Yes.
34:38Versus Jett Lawrence.
34:38Yep, Mr. Smooth against a kid who is so aggressive.
34:43Checkered flag now in sight.
34:45Three motos down.
34:47Three motos win.
34:51Four.
34:52Danger Boy.
34:52Hayden Deegan taking the victory.
34:55There's Shimoda.
34:56Three motos down.
34:57Three seconds for the Honda HRC Progressive Rider.
35:01Masterpool digging deep.
35:03He's sick.
35:03It's 100 degrees.
35:04He gets fourth.
35:06And Kitchen, he needed to rebuild it.
35:08After a tough start to the summer.
35:10And he does with a solid third.
35:12In moto one.
