00:25all in the hamstring injury yeah it's not good i don't think it's overly concerning because he
00:30should be backed by training camp but clearly a guy you're counting up he could step up
00:34it's a huge opening but um yeah i think it was a little bit of a surprise but again it seems like
00:39he'll be fine by by training camp so nobody's gonna go too crazy about it what is going to be
00:44accomplished between now and training camp when he can return in other words vic what are some of
00:48the things that they're going to miss out on not having him out there it's just getting him shanked
00:54getting guys on the same page but i do think he worked out well for him because he worked out
00:57with um pretty in the offseason where we're throwing together i think in florida and also
01:01in arizona so having some time you know on task those two guys that's definitely the biggest thing
01:06is chemistry getting guys you know the same page routes and timing and where you like the ball where
01:11he wants the ball vice versa so that stuff will come in time but clearly you miss out on extra reps
01:15you could have gotten between now and then vic i'm seeing a lot of talk from uh from you and matt
01:20barrows and matt mayoko about vibes and everybody's talking about immaculate vibes give us a sense of
01:29what it feels like there especially because there's no contract drama this offseason well i will say i
01:35think every team in the league has good vibes every team right now thinks they're gonna do you know on
01:39the on the right track and definitely they're gonna hit make the playoffs they're gonna come true all the
01:43games will come true but you have to you can't not go into ota he's not thinking otherwise you'll be in
01:47for a miserable time so i think the niners especially they feel like the last year was
01:51a lot of drama with the holdouts they got those guys other the cores back they're like the seven
01:56eight guys who are the core of this couple years so they feel like i got that a young nice mix of
02:01young guys their first five picks with defensive players who might be starters this year so they
02:05like to draft easy schedule so more time off this past season because they went to playoffs so that
02:10their body could rest a little bit so everything's looking good everyone's excited about where things are
02:15right now what do you think is going to be more impactful vick and i'm asking you to kind of
02:19project it out but you mentioned the five drafted defensive rookies will they have a bigger impact
02:24or just the fact that robert sala is back calling the d well ideally it's a combination right i
02:30ideally saw i pick these guys out because you remind them what guys you had in the past and i was
02:34actually good on defense so he thinks they can step in right away and make a contribution so
02:39it looks like you know the picks all look like they're good picks look at the film you have to call
02:44coaches and scouts and all things look these guys will make a good fit so i think we'll see how it
02:48goes in at training camp the impressions are good early impressions they got something good here and
02:53solid definitely is the right guy to bring the most out of them vick tafer the athletic covering the
02:58niners otas are underway does this team need to sign another wide receiver i think so i think uh
03:06davis is in for a workout i think a couple weeks ago and he's still a possibility but not especially
03:10a person all out you need a guy just in case so there's guys in the market who could definitely
03:14help you out not big time guys but guys who have been around and know you need to make plays i think
03:20you could probably also find an offensive lineman maybe you know to help out that little depth chart
03:24but there's a they have money playing cap space they can make some moves if they want to
03:28um the the way you answered that suggests to me that that amari cooper is is too big of a name is
03:34that is that correct i don't know what the coop i cover coops i know coops pretty well um coops uh
03:40i was surprised by how little of a factor he was last year in buffalo so i'm not sure where cooper's at
03:45right now much
03:46i don't think i like gabe davis might be more
03:52me a better fit but you never know i don't know i don't know where amari's headspace is right now
03:56what he wants to do as far as uh i'm always willing to take on what are your thoughts on
04:00demarcus robinson and his ability to come in and fit in assuming that he doesn't have to miss more
04:06than three games potentially for the dui suspension he's a real solid veteran guy i think definitely
04:12can come in and help you i mentioned the suspension possibility which kind of moves over this team a
04:15little bit but you stop saying practice he has a pro he probably makes the plays he wanted to make
04:20he knows the offense he was good in a fair way so i think he's a nice piece a guy you can count on
04:25to meet you when the things arise we need to have other guys step up
04:29vick uh kyle shanahan said that christian mcafree is as healthy as he can be and then i love the quote
04:36that you got from george kittle about christian what what's your thought right now on on his health
04:43status and what we can expect this year i mean there's no pads there's guys running around today
04:48like in the park and he looked really good if you're like he's like fast he's like in the community
04:53he definitely fired up so i think he uh everything looks to be on schedule for him having to bounce
04:57back here i think he um he's excited about it can be excited about it so i think you know i'm sure
05:02it'll be a high pick in fantasy football this year so we'll see how it all works out what's the overall
05:07depth of the running back room look like in your opinion because you know mcafree is getting older i
05:12think he'll be 30 this year and so you lose jordan mason do they have legitimate guys behind him who can
05:17carry the load if cmc happens to miss i think so i think i'm not great on pronunciation let's look
05:23in this roster down but is it garendo that you said yep yep yeah he's a big kid man looks like he
05:28again looked good today and the guy who showed he makes plays last year i think they uh it's one of
05:33the young guys i can turn to i said but ideally mcafree is the guy so we're not going to hedge them
05:37and say and and jason say he's not going to be back and again you don't need him back to where he was
05:42a couple years ago you don't need like the superstar mcafree but he's back at 80 percent you know
05:46catching the ball and running the ball well i think you're in good shape just a personal one
05:51vick what's that like for you having been with the raiders for i'm guessing 20 years i can't even
05:56remember the exact number but then now you go to a new team how much catch-up are you having to do
06:01it's kind of cool man it's been 15 years and it's kind of like that what's that tv show all the old
06:06rookie cop the guy who's uh that's me i'm a rookie old guy kind of uh getting a new sort of
06:11swinging things kind of learning my uh my bearings it's been kind of cool kind of refreshing nice
06:15change and uh i'm pretty excited about it yeah and i know it's only been a few days vick but you
06:19can already tell the niners organization's way better than the raiders right i'm not gonna say
06:26that but i will it goes on with uh my good friend greg papa recently we're talking about how there's
06:31less uh clownish activity on this team seems like so i'll say that there's not much as right now
06:37she makes not much of a circus with this team okay that is kind of interesting i mean obviously i was
06:42joking to uh to a degree but you do see sort of like a conceptual difference with the way the two
06:48organizations approach things well i see i mean in fairness the raiders haven't won for like you
06:54know 20 years so i think you're kind of getting in the way at times you're trying to find the right
06:57mix where these guys have actually won pretty recently so they're trying to get back to where
07:01they were two years ago i think you see a lot of the same players are in place a lot of coaches
07:05are in place so they know how to do it they're trying to get back to where they were
07:09where the raiders have been trying to figure out a solution for a long time and now they're
07:13trying to tom brady and and pete carroll that may work but again they're more kind of a desperate
07:18mode of like you know the last couple decades where the 49ers are not what is a fair expectation for
07:25this team vic because there's so many new players yet you got a highly paid quarterback now and the
07:30schedule is full of teams not expected to do that well when you look at what they have what do you
07:36think is fair to expect out of the niners i think they're gonna be back in the playoffs i think you
07:41mentioned the schedule i think that's a big deal it's not really a tough schedule i also amount
07:45terms of just the teams are playing also the way that it's it's set up there's a nice back stretch
07:50there's not too hard of a leading up stretch the first month so i think they're in a good spot i mean
07:54you're assuming these defensive guys step up the rookies can step up and contribute but you mentioned
07:59purdy i think purdy to me is an established guy i think he's a top i don't know top 12 top 10 guy but
08:04clearly a guy who i think you're still you're paying him for his four and he still can get
08:07better you know i have to be forgetting about his projections so he definitely is going to be
08:12better and better as we're going next few years i think that's exciting for the 49ers fans
08:16vic you mentioned purdy and again i know we're just getting started but i i wonder if you notice
08:22anything different in terms of the way his presence kind of lands now because he's established
08:31this because the contract is in the rearview mirror well i've heard that he's always had a
08:36kind of an underplayed swagger to him like he always had a confidence which i clearly have to
08:39have for the last pick in a draft and you're making the team and becoming a starting quarterback and
08:43kind of never blinking but george killham today mentioned how even in practice now like there's
08:48a sequence where jennings ran the wrong route and quite right the way he wanted to run and purdy
08:52yelled at the guys hey man don't f and do that and kind of call them out there and
08:56or in the past i guess that wouldn't have happened so i think he's even more overstated with his
09:00solution overstated with william once and his demands so i think that's a good sign i know
09:04it's not camp yet and the battles have not begun but are there any positional situations that you're
09:10going to be intrigued by outside of the kicker which you know is going to draw a lot of headlines
09:14because of the third round kid who now has some pressure but is there another spot out there
09:19that you're keeping a keen vic tafer eye on like the old lions game i mean old lions kind of the area
09:25where i know that i certainly treat that highly of the super important but still to me as well
09:30the guys are not really sure what they can do so watch no line there may have been a guy in there
09:34i think the secondary definitely right open i think the market seal is a rookie if they drafted
09:39the mic sneak in there safety starting spot at some point so i think that opens both those spots
09:44and you mentioned receiver i think there's nothing we can meet there for a receiver step up
09:47at some point um vic let's go back to mccaffrey for a second i wonder if you've got some insight
09:53on even though he looks very very healthy and george kittle says he's still very very very good
09:59at football and and all of those things do you think they manage the workload a little bit
10:03differently this year that's a good question i think i might do that in terms of a training camp
10:09and they're leading up to the season because i mentioned uh shanahan facing they're going to
10:12kind of protect him from himself he wants to push it much he can he wants to show he's the guy he was
10:17and we want to hold him back a little bit but i'm not sure once we get to september if that's going to be
10:21the case where i think he's turned loose and clearly i could have won the guy 30 times a game
10:24he has some depth now but i think we're going to be who he is and take advantage of it while
10:28while he can who's playing safety vic because uh jair brown's going to be out till camp and i know
10:33who fungus gone and mustafa with the torn acl that kind of surfaced after the fact who do you look at
10:40as a guy who can or two guys rather who can be back there playing safety yeah the only guy i really
10:45know that much about is seagull the rookie who's hurt right now he'll be back back by training camp he's a guy i thought
10:50would step up but again i'm not too familiar with that side to kind of move against the safeties and
10:55the guys i gotta be careful because i'm still learning the roster but uh i think she will be
10:59back by training camp he's a guy i'd watch for to make an impact uh hey vic great to have you on
