The overnight period tonight will see clear skies for the vast majority of the UK. The exception to this pattern is south-western England where there will be some cloud and a little rain at the start of the evening. This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 22/05/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aiden McGivern.

00:00Hi there, gardeners beware. A late season frost is expected overnight with relatively
00:06cool conditions across the UK and widespread clear skies. We do initially have an area
00:11of cloud clearing South Wales, central southern England, perhaps the odd shower during the
00:15evening but that will tend to fade away. And then aside from a keen breeze blowing down
00:20the North Sea coast and one or two showers reaching Shetland and the east coast, it's
00:25going to be a clear night with light winds and the cooler air across most parts of the
00:30country although the far southwest, Northern Ireland, tending to stay milder. So under
00:35those clear skies a frost is possible and we're talking about ground frost generally, low single
00:40figures but in one or two sheltered spots, parts of central Scotland, northern England for
00:45example, could see temperatures dip below zero. A chilly start then for Friday morning, a colder
00:51start compared with recent mornings for many of us but a beautiful start today, plenty
00:55of sunshine and for Scotland, much of England and Wales we keep those sunny skies going into
01:00the afternoon. Odd shower possible in the southwest but you'll notice a change there into Northern
01:05Ireland, thicker cloud coming along by the end of the afternoon and even some outbreaks
01:08of rain as the day comes to a close. That's because these weather fronts are moving in from
01:13the west and our old friend the jet stream is returning to dominate the UK's weather for
01:19the next week or so. A real significant change in the weather compared to what we've experienced
01:24through spring so far. Much more changeable weather coming in from the west, much needed
01:29rain of course but it's not going to be raining all the time everywhere through the bank holiday
01:34weekend. There'll be spells of rain and showers interspersed by dry interludes. Initially the
01:39warm front that I mentioned moves in giving a spell of rain on Friday evening for Northern
01:44Ireland, Western Scotland and then it sweeps across much of the rest of the country during the
01:48hours of darkness but it is there as we wake up across eastern areas and after temperatures
01:53fall away initially in the east overnight they pick up to double figures again by the end of
01:58the night because of the encroaching cloud and outbreaks of rain. It's going to be cloudy,
02:02it's going to be breezy everywhere first thing Saturday so a big contrast compared with so many
02:07spring mornings recently and it's a damp start in the east but that rain does move into the North Sea
02:13and then brighter skies albeit still with a lot of cloud arrive from the west and spells of showery
02:19rain. Some big clumps of showers I think in places. The heaviest downpours most likely across
02:24parts of central Scotland. The Grampians and the Highlands could see some lively downpours on
02:29Saturday afternoon. Some large rainfall totals we're talking about 25 to 40 millimetres in one or two
02:34spots where those showers are at their most fierce but elsewhere yeah there'll be certainly some drier
02:41spells and in the far south that's where the driest weather is likely to be and temperatures still
02:45managing to get up to the high teens or even low 20s because this is relatively humid air behind the
02:52warm front so it's not going to feel cold but it will feel different I think with the cloud, the breeze
02:58and those outbreaks of rain and showers. Sunday a very breezy day particularly in the north and then
03:06Monday. Bank holiday Monday brings more changeable weather certainly a lot of showers around much
