22 May National forecast presented by Aiden McGivern
Transcript
00:00Hi there.
00:01A couple more days of high pressure dominating the weather before what we call in the business
00:07a significant change of type for the weekend.
00:11A significant change in temperature actually signalled for the rest of Thursday.
00:16These blues returning to Scotland, parts of northern and eastern England, behind a cold
00:20front which has been sinking south.
00:22The cold front, a very inactive feature, but it is providing a lot of cloud through parts
00:26of Northern Ireland into North Wales, the Midlands, East Anglia and the South East for the rest
00:30of the day.
00:31One or two showers within that and some showers for Shetland along with a brisk breeze.
00:37It's that breeze that is bringing much cooler air into Scotland, Northern and Eastern England,
00:42the South East of England with the cloud and that cool air flow.
00:47We'll see temperatures in the mid-teens rather than the low 20s that we saw on Wednesday.
00:52We'll still see the low 20s in some parts of South Wales and the South West.
00:56The warmer air hangs on here.
00:58Some sunshine, an odd shower, perhaps the odd heavy shower for central southern England
01:02heading into the evening, but the cloud tends to fizzle away.
01:05Clear skies returning widely across the whole of the UK.
01:08Just a few showers continuing there for Shetland.
01:12With the clear skies and that much cooler air sinking south across all areas, it's going
01:17to be a significantly colder night compared with the recent nights.
01:22A touch of frost in places, a late season frost.
01:25Gardeners beware, so fairly widely across many parts of the UK.
01:29Low single figures and perhaps even a little below freezing in one or two sheltered spots.
01:34Nevertheless, despite the chill, it's a sunny start to Friday.
01:38Plenty of sunshine continuing for Scotland, England and Wales into the afternoon.
01:43Even patchy cloud, odd shower there for Devon and Cornwall.
01:46But already the sign of that incoming change for Northern Ireland turning cloudy.
01:51Outbreaks of rain arriving into the far west by the end of the afternoon.
01:55Still warm in the sunshine elsewhere.
01:58And we go into Friday evening, the last of that sunshine holding on across eastern parts
02:02of the UK, whilst Atlantic weather returns into the west.
02:07Outbreaks of rain for Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, West Wales and Cornwall by the evening
02:13on Friday.
02:14And that much needed rain courtesy of these weather systems that are coming in for Saturday.
02:21Travelling across the UK from the west, our old friend the Jetstream back in charge
02:26of the UK's weather for at least a week, if not longer.
02:30And we'll see plenty of showers or longer spells of rain along with tightening isobars,
02:35so a freshening breeze going into the weekend.
02:38Quite windy at times, particularly across northern parts of the UK.
02:42But it's not going to be raining everywhere all the time for this bank holiday weekend.
02:45There will be some drier and brighter interludes.
02:48We do need the rain, of course, and we will see some much needed rain from Saturday
02:53throughout much of next week.
02:55We'll keep updated on all the finer details on our YouTube channel.
02:58Bye-bye.
