00:00Hits of the 80s and more, 96.3 KKLZ, Mike and Carla Morning Show every Friday morning.
00:05Vegas film critic Jeff Howard stops in studio to talk about some of the movies you can see on the big screen as well as at home.
00:12Jeff, what's going on this weekend?
00:14We got a big weekend. We got a movie starring Las Vegas' most famous resident, Nicolas Cage.
00:19Really?
00:20Yes. It's called The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where he plays a caricature of himself, where he references his own movies.
00:26He plays himself where he's broke, so he accepts a million dollars from a fan to go to his birthday party and gets recruited by the CIA for a mission while he's in Spain.
00:35And during the movie, he references The Rock. He references guarding tests and all these different movies.
00:42And if you're not a fan of Nicolas Cage, you will be by the end of this movie.
00:45It is so much fun. How could you not love Nicolas Cage? It's an outrageous comedy. It's got action in it.
00:50Pedro Pascal is hysterical. Tiffany Haddish plays a CIA agent. I mean, I love this film.
00:55They really are promoting this, too.
00:58Oh, they are. It looks hilarious.
01:00It is.
01:01I've seen a couple different trailers. It looks really funny.
01:04And it seems like everybody's in it.
01:05Yeah.
01:06Yeah, I know it does.
01:07And just because he's over the top in this movie, you know, and that Nicolas Cage, you know, attitude.
01:13And I had a smile on my face the entire film.
01:16We love it.
01:16See Massive Talent.
01:18Something for the kids, based on the popular children's book, The Bad Guys.
01:21You know, you've got Sam Rockwell voicing, you've got Mr. Fox, Mr. Shark, Mr. Steak, Miss Tarantula by Awkwafina.
01:29They're a gang of thieves that go straight, but they don't last very long because they end up stealing the golden dolphin from Mr. Marmalade, this little guinea pig.
01:38Well, of course.
01:38It looks really funny.
01:39It looks very funny.
01:41Great voices.
01:41You know, it's from DreamWorks, you know, so it's got great action in it.
01:44It's got a built-in audience from a famous book for the kids.
01:47Yeah.
01:47I loved it, you know, and I had a chance to speak to Craig Robinson, who voices Mr. Shark, who's a master of disguise.
01:53Cool.
01:53So it's a lot of fun.
01:54The Bad Guys in theaters.
01:56All right.
01:56Good.
01:56And also, The Northmen.
01:58This is from director Robert Eggers, who gave us The Lighthouse and The Witch.
02:03This is Alan Skarsgård plays a Viking, and he has to avenge his father, played by Ethan Hawke, who was killed by his brother, his uncle.
02:11So he has to kind of become a slave to infiltrate his village, and they really did some incredible action sequences in this movie.
02:19This is an epic by all definitions, and also it explores Viking and Norse mythology.
02:24Skarsgård's got mysticism in it.
02:25They built these villages.
02:27You know, they got historians to make them like they were centuries ago.
