00:00Hits of the 80s and more, 96.3 KKLZ, Mike and Carla Morning Show.
00:05It's Friday, that's why Vegas film critic Jeff Howard is in studio
00:09talking about some of the movies you can catch over the weekend,
00:11not to mention at home streaming on your very own big screen TV.
00:16But Carla's heading to the theater this weekend, I think,
00:18because we're heading to England.
00:20I can't. Yes.
00:21She has been.
00:22Jeff, she's been talking about this movie forever.
00:24I might sneak out.
00:25Down with Abby.
00:25Yes, down with Abby.
00:27Now, I have never seen the show or the movies.
00:30In the past.
00:30I know.
00:31My family are huge fans.
00:32My friends are huge fans.
00:34I saw this movie, and just before we get into it,
00:36you don't have to have seen the series to enjoy it.
00:38I just love this movie.
00:39I'm a new fan.
00:40I told you last week I'm going to go back and watch the series and everything.
00:44So it is fantastic.
00:45So don't feel like you haven't seen the show or know the characters
00:47because you don't need to because by the time this is over,
00:49you will be a fan.
00:49It's just so wonderful and charming.
00:51And, you know, this is about the transition of silent movies to sound.
00:54They come to Down Abbey.
00:56So British Lion Film Company comes in,
00:58and they start shooting a movie there.
01:00And eventually all of the Downton Abbey staff and everyone get involved
01:02because they need them.
01:03So it's hysterical to see them become movie stars
01:06and also starstruck because of the cast shooting the movie at Downton Abbey.
01:09Then the other half of the movie is about Maggie Smith,
01:14but she's got a secret, you know.
01:16Oh.
01:16Yeah, so I'm sure all the fans know what's leading up to something.
01:19I'm so glad she's in it.
01:21Yes, she is.
01:21Because at the end of the last one, we knew that she is ill.
01:25So I'm so glad that she's in it.
01:27Oh, my gosh.
01:28So a lot of people might have thought she died.
01:30Oh, yeah, or that she just, yeah.
01:32No, she's alive and well in this one.
01:33Yes.
01:34But she's harboring a family secret that the family has to figure out
01:37at this Parisian villa.
01:39So it's wonderful.
01:40See Downton Abbey.
01:41You're going to absolutely love it.
01:42I can't wait.
01:43Another great comedy is called The Valet,
01:45and it stars Eugenio Durbez, and it's streaming on Hulu.
01:47I'm sorry?
01:48Yes.
01:48The Valet starring Eugenio Durbez.
01:51Oh, of course.
01:51Yes.
01:52Okay.
01:52He's a Spanish, a Mexican actor, a comedian.
01:55He's fantastic.
01:56I'm a huge fan of his, and it's called The Valet,
01:58and it's about the world's biggest movie star
02:00and this billionaire get caught together by the paparazzi.
02:03So the billionaire is telling his wife,
02:04honey, it wasn't me.
02:05She was with that guy,
02:07and the guy in the picture in the middle is, of course,
02:09the valet Parker.
02:10So they come to him and say, look.
02:11You blame him for everything.
02:12Yes, we will give you a lot of money.
02:14If you just go out with her, go to the premiere,
02:16and do these things, just pretend like you're a couple.
02:17And he's like, what?
02:18Are you crazy?
02:19So the movie is formulaic,
02:21but it is one of the most charming, hysterical films.
02:23It's about family.
02:24And he just sells it big time.
02:26Oh, that's awesome.
02:27So it's wonderful.
02:28So it's The Valet, and it's on Hulu.
02:30You're going to love it.
02:30All right.
02:31And also a documentary on HBO, HBO Max.
02:35It's called George Carlin's American Dream,
02:37and I interviewed the director.
02:39It's about the history of George Carlin.
02:40And being a Las Vegas native,
02:42I saw him with the Congaroon many times,
02:44but it's about his history.
02:45Not only him starting out as a suit talking.
02:47You know, a straight-laced kind of comedian.
02:49Short hair.
02:50Yes.
02:51The skinny tie.
02:52The suit.
02:53And then he dropped acid and became this rebel
02:55that came out inside him,
02:56and the seven words you can't say on TV and on the radio.
02:58Hippie-dippie weatherman.
02:59Hippie-dippie weatherman.
03:00All of that.
03:00You see this incredible four-hour documentary on HBO Max
03:03that talks about George Carlin,
03:05and his memes are bigger than ever,
03:06and they're all over the internet.
03:08They sure are.
03:08So fantastic.
03:09You've got to see this documentary.
03:10And finally, another documentary playing in town
03:12called Jazz Fest, A New Orleans Story.
03:14It's about this incredible musical festival.
03:17Fourteen stages about the culture of New Orleans,
03:19the music of New Orleans.
03:20I interviewed the director, Frank Marshall,
03:22who was Steven Spielberg's producer for many, many years.
03:24Oh, wow.
03:25It's fantastic.
03:26That's playing locally, too.
03:27So we've got two great documentaries
03:28you've got to check out this weekend.
03:29Love it.
03:30Follow him on Facebook and YouTube, of course.
03:33See all these great interviews.
