00:00Hits of the 80s and more, 96.3, KKLZ, Mike and Carla Morning Show.
00:05Every Friday we do this.
00:06We've been doing it for years.
00:08Vegas film critic Jeff Howard in the studio to talk about some of the things you can watch,
00:12not only on the big screen, but of course on your TV at home, streaming, which has become huge now.
00:21Which I'm just becoming spoiled.
00:23I'm returning to the theater, but I don't like it.
00:25I've got to get used to it again.
00:27I've got to be honest, I went to the movies over the weekend and I loved it.
00:30I loved sitting down, having a beer, somebody bringing me one.
00:33I loved it.
00:34What theater is that?
00:36Yeah, yeah.
00:37Those specialty theaters.
00:38Over at Summerlin.
00:39Yeah, downtown Summerlin.
00:40In the Republic they do things a little different, Jeff.
00:42We do things differently in the Republic, Jeff, as you know.
00:45It's a little bit more wide open.
00:47I feel like I shut in.
00:48I've got to get out more.
00:49And there's still no better popcorn than movie popcorn.
00:52See, you're still going to the little town theater down the street on Main Street in Hooterville.
00:57Can you imagine a film critic that doesn't like popcorn?
01:00I mean, I go crazy.
01:02I get upset.
01:03You know, if you're chomping next to me, I'm like, shut up.
01:06All right.
01:06So what are we talking about this weekend?
01:08Well, this weekend we have a new Marvel film that's opening up called Morbius and it stars Jared Leto.
01:12Yeah.
01:12It's an obscure character from 1971 from Marvel, from the Marvel Universe.
01:17He is a biochemist that has a rare blood disease that is trying to cure himself and he uses vampire bats as a possible cure and ends up mutating himself into some sort of human vampire.
01:28Right.
01:28I know.
01:28It's really disturbing.
01:30It's very dark looking just in the trailers.
01:32It reminds me a lot of Venom, that kind of vibe to it without being so campy.
01:36You know, the movie seems like it sets up future stories because it's an origin story.
01:39A lot of the comic book universe fans are really trashing it.
01:43I liked it.
01:44You know, I thought it was really intriguing.
01:45I thought there was a lot of potential for the character, but I can see how people might be bored with it or not understand it.
01:50Again, it's a very weird, obscure character.
01:52So Morbius, I would say go see it.
01:53I thought it was pretty cool.
01:54It is from Sony.
01:55It's not a Disney Marvel movie.
01:56You know, so it's one of those really bizarre characters.
01:59All right.
01:59What else?
01:59All right.
02:00We have Deep Water and it's streaming on Prime Video.
02:03This stars Ben Affleck, who's a husband who lets his wife fool around right in front of him.
02:08Okay.
02:08But he has a breaking point.
02:09And her lovers start disappearing.
02:11I mean, like days later, they start disappearing.
02:14So there's good news and there's bad news.
02:18We have an open relationship, but you know what?
02:19I changed my mind, but I'm not going to tell you.
02:21I'm just going to off him one at a time.
02:22Yeah.
02:23And so Ben Affleck has this real intensity about him in this movie, and it's really disturbing.
02:27It's a slow burn movie, so it just kind of builds and builds.
02:30And it's really just kind of like I was clutching my arms by the end.
02:33Ben Affleck really plays a great killer.
02:35I don't know if I can watch him in that.
02:36Yeah.
02:36Just talking about it freaked me out.
02:38It was one of those movies.
02:39So it's called Deepwater on Amazon.
02:40Also, Marty, Halo, have you seen it yet, the series on Paramount Plus?
02:43I have.
02:44Yeah.
02:44I am excited.
02:45Yes.
02:45It is the biggest thing right now on streaming.
02:48It's the number one rated show.
02:49I got interviews with the cast on my YouTube channel I'm very proud of.
02:52Thank you, Paramount Plus.
02:53Cool.
02:53But I've never played the game, but I've been around gamers who have, and it's from executive
02:57producer Steven Spielberg.
02:59They spent a lot of money on this.
03:01It is a big budget, big gaming, sci-fi epic.
03:04I really liked it, and I've never played the game.
03:06Wow.
03:06And you got to know that if you play the game, don't expect that's what's happening in the
03:11movie because they're going to-
03:13They deviate from the story, yes.
03:14Completely different from the video game.
03:16They had to because, you know, you got to do some great storylines.
03:19Yes.
03:19Well, of course.
03:19And finally, something for the kids, Hardy Boys Season 2 streaming on Hulu.
03:23I spoke to the cast this morning, the both of the Hardy Boys.
03:26The whole second season is supernatural.
03:29It's like almost like X-Files is injected into the Hardy Boys.
03:32Oh, wow.
03:32Yeah.
03:32It's very, very popular.
03:34They had to stand down because of COVID, and they both grew very much since I saw them
03:38last, you know.
03:39Wow.
03:40So check out the Hardy Boys on Hulu.
03:42It's really a lot of fun.
03:43I watched the first couple episodes the other night.
03:44So it's not the Parker Stevenson and Sean Cassidy Hardy Boys.
03:48They are very well aware of the 80s because the show is set in the 80s.
03:52Oh, I love it.
03:53So I'm asking them, is it really-
03:54That's awesome.
03:55Oh, I have to watch it now.
03:56And I say, is it weird being in a show with no internet and no cell phones?
03:58Yeah.
03:59They go, but we love that era, the music and everything.
04:00Because I'm trying to imagine how many pair of Hardy Boys have there been.
04:04Yeah.
04:04But that had to be the most popular.
04:06And of course, right after that show on TV, it was Nancy Drew.
04:11Oh, yeah, Nancy Drew.
04:13Oh, yeah.
04:13Absolutely.
04:13I can't remember, Linda or something, Lisa or something.
04:16Yeah, yes.
04:17Yes.
04:17I told him to watch it because that was my era.
04:19I was like 11 when I watched the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.
04:21So yeah, check it out on Hulu.
04:22All right.
04:23Watch him on YouTube because that's where the great interviews are.
04:27So sign up for his YouTube channel, Facebook, and of course, VegasFilmCritic.com.
04:31Jeff, always good stuff.
04:32We'll talk to you next week.
04:33Thanks a lot.
04:33Thanks a lot.
04:34Thanks a lot.

04:38Thanks a lot.
