Wales headlines 10 October: Wales to co-host Euro 2028, asylum hotel plans scrapped, Councillor suspended over Israel comments
  • 7 months ago
Wales will host a major international tournament for the first time as the UK and Ireland are announced as joint hosts for Euro 2028. None of the hosts will necessarily get automatic qualification. There have been rumours the Principality Stadium will host the tournament’s opening game, but there are no official announcements just yet.

Plans to house around 240 asylum seekers at a hotel in Llanelli have officially been scrapped by the home office. Carmarthenshire Council said they welcomed the news, and wants the local community to heal after months of protests, arrests and injuries outside Stradey Park Hotel.

A Labour Newport City councillor has been suspended after comments he made on X, formerly Twitter, about the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. It is believed Miqdad Al-Nuaimi commented on Israeli security protocol. The Labour Party are investigating the issue.
