Wet weather is returning to the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast for mid-May.
Transcript
00:00It's a slow-moving storm, so that's bringing some higher rain totals for some of us.
00:05And for some into Virginia, into parts of Maryland, we're looking at flood watches
00:09because of how much rainfall we're getting in a pretty short period of time.
00:13So a look at what's to come, but let's take a look at what is happening now.
00:17Kind of a zoomed-in look at radar in the Ohio Valley.
00:19We're seeing that rain into places like Virginia moving its way into the D.C. metro area.
00:25We'll see this continue to work farther into the Northeast as the overnight goes on.
00:30And into tomorrow, we're going to look like this.
00:32Now, there's a couple different things that you're going to see depending on exactly where you are.
00:36I want to highlight the heaviest thunderstorm area.
00:38It's in the darkest green here and does include the Washington, D.C. metro area.
00:43Now, I'm highlighting this because this is where we could see some locally damaging wind gusts,
00:47some small hail, not widespread severe weather.
00:49You know, we don't have a severe risk map for tomorrow.
00:52But just know that some of these thunderstorms could be on the stronger side.
00:56The other thing to keep an eye on here, I mentioned it's a slow-moving storm.
01:00And this should give you an idea of just that Wednesday, the footprint.
01:03Not that different than Tuesday, which is also why we end up with kind of that flooding concern.
01:09Take a look at future radar and how this plays out timing-wise.
01:12Now, we're stopping Tuesday 7 a.m. first.
01:15Give you an idea of who is going to be impacted on your morning commute.
01:18You know, heading to work, school, wherever you're heading first thing in the morning.
01:20Places like Pittsburgh, even parts of New Jersey, kind of scattered shower or two moving into New York City,
01:26but not widespread rainfall at that point.
01:28That comes later in the day.
01:30But watch what happens as we move into Wednesday.
01:32It becomes more scattered.
01:34But places like New Jersey, for example, where we do have those elevated drought conditions,
01:39you are getting round after round of rainfall.
01:41So that is going to be helpful.
01:43But it's the same kind of situation that leads to the flooding.
01:46So it's a pro-con kind of situation.
01:47We're looking at days of rainfall once again.
01:50Wednesday into Thursday, we continue with the scattered showers and thunderstorms.
01:54So be prepared.
01:55Have the umbrella on standby.
01:56Hopefully it's not even out of your car because we had, you know, days of rainfall not that long ago.
02:00This is the area we're most concerned about the flooding, and you can see why.
02:03Look at these rain totals.
02:04Some getting two to four inches of rain overall.
02:07And AccuWeather local storm acts of six inches of rain.
02:09And the D.C. metro area, you're mostly in the one to two area.
02:14But anyone highlighted in green on this map is likely to see at least some ponding,
02:18if not some more widespread flash flooding.
02:20So we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to see if we're going to
