The big concern moving forward will involve a big transition from great, beautiful weather.
00:05
It's been a nice week for most of us, to a stormier weekend.
00:09
And obviously also the beach impacts that John talked about.
00:12
And maybe some of the storms late this Saturday and Sunday may keep some beach numbers down slightly.
00:19
And that might actually put fewer people at risk for the rip currents.
00:23
But again, we don't want to wish away business at the beach towns here
00:26
because these are million-dollar weekends for some big businesses there.
00:31
And again, we do have some storms around, but just be careful.
00:34
My message here is just to be careful.
00:36
Kids and adults alike, rip currents can be deceptively dangerous and deadly,
00:40
even at moments when there's a blue sky over your head.
00:44
So Thursday, we have some more showers around parts of the New England states.
00:47
Most of us are going to have a great day, though.
00:49
Just maybe a plus 1 to 3 or 4 degrees from where we've been over the past few days here into the northeast,
00:57
turning a little smidge warmer than we have been Friday.
01:01
We're going to be a little warmer into the New England states.
01:03
But here comes the big concern.
01:05
Showers and thunderstorms are going to be moving on in.
01:08
So again, there's a warm front.
01:09
It's going to introduce higher dew point air, increasingly humid here,
01:13
into the area around the Great Lakes and areas like western Pennsylvania.
01:17
Saturday, this zone here of warmth and humidity increases off to more of New England, upstate New York.
01:24
And it's going to be a day with rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
01:27
Not the whole time, but again, we're going to have showers and thunderstorms at times here through the interior
01:32
and closing in late in the day on the Hudson Valley, the areas around the Delaware Valley.
01:37
Later in the day, some scattered thunderstorms will be escalating.
01:40
So we're going to have drenching showers and storms this weekend,
01:44
especially at any point in the weekend for the interior,
01:47
and especially late Saturday and through Sunday into the area closer to the coast.
01:51
It won't rain the whole time.
01:53
This is convective, so these are thunderstorm-driven rounds of rain,
01:57
but it will at least curtail some outdoor plans for some.
02:01
So this week, looking at Thursday, Friday, and Saturday into the weekend,
02:05
you can see there's not a whole lot of exceptional heat out there.
02:08
In fact, we are hard-pressed to find many 90s.
02:10
We may hit 90 tomorrow in D.C., 91 in Lexington.
02:13
Then we get knocked down.
02:14
We shave about 5 degrees off of both of those high temperatures come Saturday
02:19
in both Lexington and Washington, D.C.
02:21
Virginia Beach pretty steady, but only in the low 80s there.
02:24
Detroit, you drop into the mid-70s Saturday.
02:26
Pittsburgh falling from 86 to 81.
02:28
New York falling from 87 all the way down to 78 Saturday.
02:32
Boston, you're stuck in the upper 70s.
02:34
Burlington drops 85 down to 77.
02:36
And we're going to have a new, renewed cool-down here behind our weekend storm system
02:41
that brings those showers and storms through, and that flow is going to be a little cooler.
02:44
So we have highs in the 70s, low 80s for some.
02:47
And overall, big picture over the next several days and through August 24th,
02:52
it's a relatively cool for August air mass here
02:56
and weather pattern for the Great Lakes, the Midwest, and the Northeast.
02:59
We're avoiding the big heat.
03:00
We had a hot start to summer, but again, as we move through the back nine,
03:05
it is a little cooler out there.
