Thunderstorms rumble across the Northeast on Easter Monday

Storms rolling through the Northeast on April 21 are clearing the way for warmer weather.

00:00At this point, there is still a severe thunderstorm threat with some of these cells.

00:04There's the lightning and the latest severe thunderstorm warning as we switch back over to the high-res radar data out of Buffalo.

00:10You can see that we're dealing with some strong wind and hail potential into eastern Niagara County,

00:16eastern and northeastern Erie County of New York, and then really most of Orleans County,

00:20most of Genesee County east of Batavia, and the northern sliver of Wyoming County of New York.

00:25When we look at the storm hazards with this, nothing alarming, but there is some small hail,

00:31the size of perhaps dimes or smaller, and also straight-line winds as the main concern.

00:36So it's kind of a middle-of-the-road springtime severe thunderstorm with wind as the main issue here

00:41for the northeastern suburbs of the Buffalo area.

00:45And then taking a step south, we're going to go back to the more national radar mosaic here,

00:49putting all the pieces back together.

00:50Eastern parts of Crawford, southeastern Erie County, and Warren County of Pennsylvania now

00:55under a severe thunderstorm warning.

00:57The worst of this is right over the snow belt here into Corey, PA, east of Union City,

01:03and into areas along the eastern side of Crawford County, PA.

01:06Then most of Warren County, damaging wind and hail will be our main concerns.

01:10I'm going to turn the reports on again, see if any severe weather reports have been filed

01:15from the northern part of the region yet, and the answer is no.

01:18All those reports are from over the weekend here along the Pennsylvania-Maryland line.

01:24So again, that's the latest with the severe thunderstorms in New York and Pennsylvania.

01:28And as we take a look ahead to the big picture for the current temperatures,

01:32it is still a little bit warm to the south, 76 into Columbus, really nice, 80 on the nose into Virginia Beach.

01:39But we're only at 45, struggling in a big way into Portland, Maine.

01:43So your severe risk continues, wind and hail, a limited risk for an isolated tornado,

01:48but that's going to be a short-lived concern.

01:50This blitz is east here, and tomorrow we pave the way for a really nice day behind the front.

01:55It's actually going to be warmer behind this cold front because the atmosphere is going to be allowing

01:59for drier air and an offshore breeze in Boston back up to 74,

02:04with temperatures 15 degrees above the historical average, and looking good there.

02:08Baltimore looking great, 80, Detroit a little cooler there, but not a bad day at all.
