Transcript
00:00A much-loved cartoon character is heading from screen to the stage as the Spongebob
00:04musical arrives in Newcastle for the February half term in 2026.
00:10Tiny Theatre Productions will bring the dynamic all-singing all-dancing show to the Tiny Theatre
00:15and Opera House, offering audiences a lively and colourful production based on the long-running
00:20animated series Spongebob Squarepants. So, Tiny Theatre Productions is our in-house amateur
00:27dramatic production company and we're delighted to announce that our show for February 2026
00:36will be the Spongebob musical. So, performances will be February half term, we will have a Thursday
00:43matinee and a Saturday matinee and then evening performances Wednesday to Saturday of that
00:49February half term week and you can come and get involved if you're over 16 and you're interested
00:57in performing on stage. The performances will be here at the Tiny Theatre. Anybody interested can
01:03come along to an information evening on Wednesday the 10th of September and then we will be holding
01:10auditions here at the Theatre on Sunday the 21st of September. You can obviously come and be part of
01:16the cast but we also have backstage roles and we will be having some shadow opportunities for young
01:23creatives who might be looking to get into the industry. So, do look out for those as well.
01:30So, obviously Spongebob the musical is based on the really popular animated series and we're delighted
01:38to be able to perform this in the North East. It's a fantastic family show, it's full of colour,
01:45it's got amazing characters in it and we think it's going to look absolutely fantastic on our stage here at
01:50the Time Theatre. The musicals say Spongebob and his friends in Bikini Bottom face a looming natural
01:57disaster as the volcano threatens to destroy their underwater town. In a race against time the community
02:04must come together to prevent a catastrophe. At the heart of the story is the message of resilience
02:09and optimism as an unlikely hero steps up to lead the charge. Featuring original music, a host of familiar
02:17characters, in a fast-paced storyline the show is designed to appeal to both children and adults.
02:23Organisers describe the production as a deep sea pearl that brings humour and heart to the stage.
02:29The musical is part of a growing trend of popular TV properties being adapted for theatre, combining
02:36nostalgia for older fans with excitement for new audiences. What we're hoping is that people will see
02:42the theatre as somewhere to come to be creative and the idea is that then we will hold some half-time
02:50workshops for children and continue a programme of workshops for adults and families across the year.
