00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Bertz and today I'm going out into the streets of Manchester to talk to them about the England women's team and their massive success in winning the European Championships this weekend just gone.
00:12Now everyone from Manchester knows already how much football plays a big part of the culture here and that's not restricted just to men's football.
00:19We have two of the biggest teams in England here as well as a whole host of lower league teams.
00:24We thought very quickly before we go out onto the street in Manchester we're going to talk about some of the players in that Lionesses squad that formed their careers here in Manchester.
00:32Starting with Kiara Keating at Manchester City. She's City's starting goalkeeper and though she couldn't get ahead of Hannah Hampton for this tournament there's a bright future ahead of her.
00:40Alex Greenwood moving forward into defence started at left back throughout the tournament and performed really really well.
00:45She is a mainstay in the Manchester City team.
00:48Maya Letizia is a Manchester United player and though she didn't make much of an impact on the pitch at the Euros just gone many reports have come out about a positive impact off the pitch and keeping everyone happy.
00:58Grace Clinton and Jess Park are both brilliant young midfielders for Manchester United and Manchester City respectively and made massive impacts over the course of the season just gone and in the tournament.
01:09Ella Toon is a massively important attacking player for Manchester United and made a big impact in the tournament as well.
01:15Lauren Hemp's a tricky customer down the wing for both Manchester City and England again over the course of the last month or so.
01:22So those are all the players that we're going to name. Let's go out and see what people have to say.
01:25I think it's because women are taking back what they never could.
01:30Why shouldn't we?
01:31And I think they do try more than the men seem to. To me anyway because I'm not a football fan.
01:40I wasn't impressed with England.
01:42I wasn't impressed though. They didn't play fantastic.
01:45No.
01:46And it's just luck of the draw, the penalties.
01:49Football's not a massive part of our lives really but my family have always supported Manchester City.
01:53Yeah.
01:54So Manchester City have obviously always had a women's team which is quite nice so a lot of my friends, colleagues do go and watch it but you were never really into it do you?
02:03So we sort of swerved the football really. We're not massive football fanatics.
02:08We're very pleased with it you know because it's it does a lot for young children to grow up knowing that they can play a game like that.
02:19I think it's definitely they all seem to be really good role models for young girls.
02:22I'm a primary school teacher so a lot of times the girls want to play football but they'll be like no the boys said we're not allowed to play and that's definitely changing over the last few years.
02:31So I think it's a positive thing that women's football is it should be just football shouldn't it but yeah that women are getting more of a sort of a voice in sport I guess it's good.
02:43But women need to take back everything because men haven't got a brain up here.
02:49That's why there's wars now.
02:51It's just really a positive thing I think it's definitely being like more brought to light isn't it so that's definitely a good thing.
