00:00As Everton look ahead to a fresh start at their new stadium at Bramley Moor Dock,
00:05one die-hard Blues book takes supporters back to one of the club's most defining chapters,
00:11the Howard Kendall years.
00:12I could never think about not loving this club,
00:17because there's just been too many rollercoaster rides throughout that time,
00:22and I was very fortunate to see a lot of the glory,
00:26to season 84-85, you played a total of 63 matches in all competition,
00:32and I went to every single one.
00:34Former players and staff are now sharing their memories
00:37of the time when Everton dominated English football.
00:40In Kendall's glory years, author and lifelong fan,
00:43Steve Zoczek gathers first-hand accounts from those inside the dressing room
00:47during Kendall's first spell in charge,
00:50the most successful period in the club's history.
00:52When we signed Gary Lineker, Kendall put his arm around Gary Lineker,
00:56and said, we're going to build a team around you.
00:59And to be fair, Gary Lineker, he doesn't say much about Everton on TV,
01:03but he told me it was the best club side that he ever played for,
01:06even though they were runners-up in the league
01:08and runners-up in the FA Cup to Liverpool.
01:11From early struggles and calls for Kendall to be sacked,
01:14to league titles and European glory denied to them,
01:18the bogey explores a transformational time both on and off the pitch.
01:22It's basically from Howard's first day at Goodison up until he went to Bilbao in 1987,
01:30and all the players who were involved with Howard in that period tell their story
01:38about how they went from Howard nearly getting the sack
01:41to all the success they had, all the silverware, and all the glory days.
01:48As the club's men's team moves from Goodison Park to a new home on the Liverpool waterfront,
01:53so Chexbuk offers a timely reminder of past glories
01:56and the highs that fans hope can one day return.
02:00Well, obviously, yeah, things have changed a lot over the years,
02:03but that's football, but they've never turned me back on Everton Football Club.
02:09He's hoping this will give an insight into the team, the manager,
02:12and the legacy that still shapes Everton today.
02:16Once I get all the information and people read in these books,
02:21I think they are quite surprised.
02:23How did they get all of him?
02:24But, you know, they are quite, I think they did admire me for what I do.
02:29And, as I say, that spurs me on to do, you know, something else, another publication.
02:35In May, the men's first team said goodbye to L4 after 133 years at their second home in the city.
02:44It had been widely expected that following their last fixture,
02:47the lights would go out on the grand old lady for the final time.
02:50However, just weeks before that penultimate match of the most recent season,
02:54it was confirmed how the women's team will call the ground home from August.
