00:11Europe. As part of the celebrations, a massive fan zone will be built on the town moor,
00:17expected to hold between 15 and 20,000 people. The fan zone will show every game of the tournament
00:24live, not just those played in Newcastle, and will host concerts, family events and football-themed
00:30activities. The aim, according to the North East Combined Authority, is to create a festival that
00:36appeals to all ages and backgrounds, ensuring the entire region feels part of the action. Hosting
00:43the Euros is predicted to generate a £117.7 million economic boost for the North East,
00:49with around 60% of match attendees expected to come from outside the region. Newcastle's role
00:55in the tournament is supported by a £14.5 million investment covering event logistics, infrastructure
01:02upgrades and the volunteer programme involving 750 people. Newcastle City Council recently accepted
01:09£8.6 million in funding from UK Sport, alongside nearly £3 million each from the North East Combined
01:15authority and the Council itself. City leaders hope the event will cement Newcastle's place on the
01:21international stage and leave a lasting legacy. City Council leader Karen Kilgower said the Euros
01:28will bring the international spotlight onto our fantastic city and inspire future generations.
01:34North East Mayor Kim McGuinness echoed the excitement, calling the region the perfect place to host,
01:39and aiming to make it the UK's first official region of sport.
