00:00But they're still my friends, and I try to interact with my Democrat colleagues,
00:03because some of them are incredibly intelligent.
00:04I'm like, how can you come up with this answer, you know, politically, if you're so smart?
00:08There's a lot of Democrats that are very, very angry at Hakeem Jeffries right now.
00:12And he thinks he's being all cool in the gang?
00:15Nope.
00:16Stuff like this is why if, you know, God forbid, the Democrats take him to the House,
00:21he will not be the speaker.
00:23He just won't.
00:25And what I tell my Democrat colleagues is read the actual bill.
00:30See how it's going to apply to your constituents, then your state, then the nation.
00:35And if they do that objectively, not looking through a political lens,
00:38but a lens of reality and truth, then they need to vote for this bill.
00:43All right.
00:44Congressman, thank you again for taking the time to join us here.
00:47As we know, we have a little bit of time as that speech does continue.
00:49Anything else you want to add about any of this before I let you go?
00:53I want people tomorrow, the 4th of July, to take a little time with their family
01:01and realize that they live in the most exceptional nation that has ever existed in the history of the world.
01:06And anybody that tells you America isn't awesome, anybody that tells you America isn't the most generous
01:12and kind country that has ever existed.
01:16They're selling you something you don't want to buy.
01:18So get a hot dog, a brat, beer, hamburger, whatever.
01:21Go to the pool.
01:22Enjoy your freedom that was granted to you by our forefathers.
01:26And have a wonderful holiday.
01:29All right.
01:30Congressman Derek Van Orden, Republican representing Wisconsin's 3rd District,
01:34thank you so much for taking the time to join us today.
01:36We appreciate it.
01:38You're welcome.
01:39Take care.
01:40You too.
01:40And I do want to pop this up on your screen right here.
01:43This is a post on social media, specifically from Speaker Johnson.
01:47As he did write,
01:48The time is now.
01:50President Trump is waiting with his pen today.
01:52We will deliver one big, beautiful bill to the president's desk,
01:56and the American people will finally get the relief they demand and deserve.
02:02Also want to check in on this right here.
02:04We've been asking you at home your thoughts.
02:06How long do you think House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will speak on the floor?
02:12If you do want to vote, just scan that QR code top right hand side of your screen
02:16or go to live now, fox.com slash connect.
02:18As of right now, an overwhelming majority saying they think he's going to speak for more than 10 hours.
02:25That is 63% of the hundreds of votes, thousands at this point.
02:30Nine hours, 18%.
02:32Eight hours and 45 minutes, 11%.
02:35And we know that the record held by Kevin McCarthy is eight hours and 32 minutes.
02:40So eight percent of you at home believe he's going to speak for just one more minute than that.
02:45Eight hours and 33 minutes.
02:47We are going to head to a quick break here at 1209 on the East Coast, 909 on the West Coast.
02:53We will be right back with more live coverage coming up in just a minute.
02:57We'll be right back with more live coverage coming up.
03:02We'll be right back with more live coverage coming up in just a minute.
05:05We're on live now from Fox 12 on the East Coast and 9-11 on the West.
05:10All of your top stories, live events, and breaking news.
05:14Do want to take you out to a look at the stock board as the Dow did start the day out in the green.
05:19And it's still there, up about 0.79% or 350 points.
05:24We'll keep an eye on the stock market here all throughout the day.
05:27For now, I do want to head right back out to the House floor as we do have Hakeem Jeffries.
05:33He's been talking for over seven hours.
05:35It looks like eight hours and 32 minutes held by Kevin McCarthy, who was the House Minority Leader there at the time.
05:44Let's lift up the audio and listen in.
05:46Mr. Speaker, you know that despite dismissed it, rural hospitals will close as a result of Donald Trump's one big ugly bill.
06:09They will close.
06:12Susan Collins acknowledged that.
06:16But House Republicans are here.
06:18Jamming a bill down the throats of the American people that will close hospitals in rural America, in heartland of America, and apparently, Mr. Speaker, couldn't care less.
06:31Let me be clear.
06:32We're going to stand up for those communities that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle have abandoned.
06:38We're going to stand up for rural America, urban America, small-town America, the heartland of America.
06:48Appalachia, we're going to stand up for all of America, whether we represent you or not.
07:05Representative Nanette Barragan, one of our co-chairs of steering and policy, Kevin Kelly in DWS, she offered an amendment.
07:15Increasing the hospital stabilization fund.
07:23But they had to include this amendment was designed to protect hospitals from closing and expand eligibility for safety net hospitals that we know exist all across America.
07:35In every corner in every corner in this country, safety net hospitals that serve a large number of low-income patients, including those with Medicaid.
07:50And yet, Mr. Speaker, as you know, House Republicans dismissed this amendment.
08:03Amendment after amendment after amendment after amendment.
08:10The Democrats have introduced upon the American people by this one big, ugly bill, voted down by Republicans or dismissed out of hand.
08:24Representative Costa introduced an amendment to protect those on the low-income heating and energy assistance program, who are also targeted by this one big, ugly bill.
08:41It's part of an effort to ensure that all households on SNAP can continue to qualify.
08:52Speaker, as you know, Republicans dismissed that amendment out of hand, ignored it, did not see fit to take it up.
09:02Representative Jill Tukuda from the great state of Hawaii, she introduced an amendment trying to prevent the nutrition title of this bill from taking effect.
09:18That against USDA can determine that the provisions of this one big, ugly bill would not result in material economic harm to farmers, ranchers, and producers.
09:34Mr. Speaker, as you know, Republicans dismissed that amendment out of hand.
09:43Representative Lloyd, to extend tax cuts for the 98% of the American people who make $400,000 or less per amendment been taken up and passed,
10:08it would have cut the cost of this one big, ugly bill by approximately standing up for those everyday Americans who are now going to be hurt by other provisions in this GOP tax scam, this disgusting abomination.
10:28Mr. Speaker, as you know, that amendment dismissed out of hand by the House Republican majority.
10:43Representative Seth Magaziner from the great state of Rhode Island.
10:50He's only in his second term, somehow he's the dean of the delegation.
10:54He had an amendment to provide a tax cut for the middle class paid for by increasing taxes on the wealthiest here in this country.
11:12The taxes and a tax rate that had previously been at 39% lowered by the original GOP tax scam in 2017.
11:29He had this amendment to provide a tax cut for middle class Americans.
11:33Instead, Republicans are spending a trillion dollars on massive tax breaks for the wealthiest amongst us.
11:44And that amendment was dismissed out of hand.
11:54Representative Stephen Horsford, who also came in, the class of 2012.
12:01He had an amendment to make no tax on tips, which we thought, but we support no tax on tips becoming a permanent part of the law.
12:22And then that's not what this one big, ugly bill does.
12:31Tax breaks for billionaires, permanent tax breaks for everybody else expire.
12:42That's extraordinary representative.
12:43Representative Stephen Horsford's amendments to make no tax on tips permanent and to close loopholes that are in this one big, ugly bill.
13:01Dismissed.
13:02Out of hand.
13:06Amendments introduced by ranking member Huffman, Andrea Salinas, Dave Mint, Emily Randall and others protecting public lands.
13:17Dismissed.
13:21Out of hand.
13:22Dismissed.
13:23I think I'll end this portion of my presentation.
13:25Mr. Speaker.
13:26Dismissed.
13:27Dismissed.
13:29Dismissed.
13:30Dismissed.
13:31Out of hand.
13:33And I think I'll end this portion of my presentation.
13:39Mr. Speaker, Mr. Speaker, I said, I said this portion of my presentation still got a little
13:57more time.
14:02Donald Trump's deadline may be Independence Day.
14:05That ain't my deadline.
14:06You know why, Mr. Speaker?
14:18We don't work for Donald here now on the floor of the House of Representatives, standing
14:22up for the American people, for everyday Americans, for hardworking American taxpayers, fighting
14:31hard to make sure that we can live in a country where every American can afford to live the
14:40good life.
14:42And as I mentioned earlier, Mr. Speaker, part of being able to afford to live the good life,
14:49part of those five things that I talked about, which shouldn't be hard to agree upon.
15:00Work hard, play by the rules, and then being able to be part of a country.
15:09Imagine a country where, when you work hard and play by the rules, you can afford to obtain
15:17the American dream, to experience the good life, good paying job, good housing, good health
15:25care, a good education for your children, and then a good retirement.
15:33So we had a series of amendments, Mr. Speaker, introduced on the subject of education.
15:47Let me say something about the Department of Education and every agency, every department
15:56can, of course, be improved in terms of its efficiency, but the Department of Education
16:03does important work, particularly as it relates to the most vulnerable children amongst us.
16:10And as part of this unprecedented assault on the American way of life, President Donald
16:18Trump issued this executive order, the Department of Education.
16:29I know there are people all across the country, as I travel throughout America, who are concerned
16:35about this.
16:36Let me make something clear.
16:38The Department of Education was established by an act of the United States Congress.
16:46It cannot be abolished by anyone pretending to be a wannabe king, not anyone.
16:53It's us, the United States Congress.
16:59So we introduced, Mr. Speaker, a series of amendments related to this question of the
17:08importance of the importance of education as part of accessing the American dream.
17:19Ranking member Bobby Scott is also battling some issues.
17:27Life hits us all, but made sure representatives.
17:30It's part of his commitment to stand up for the education of our children and others.
17:37He had an amendment, Mr. Speaker, that strikes all of the extreme parts of the Committee on the Education
17:49and Workforce elements of this bill that make it harder for students to access high-quality education, jeopardizes child nutrition programs and all of which is being done recklessly, Mr. Speaker, by this one big ugly bill.
18:14And as you know, Republicans chose to ignore this amendment, dismiss it out of hand.
18:26Representative Sarah Elfrith introduced an amendment to try to increase the amount that hard-working teachers,
18:42teachers and educators are able to deduct on qualified out-of-pocket classroom expenses.
18:56And that amendment was dismissed out of hand.
19:03Tax breaks for billionaires.
19:08Mr. Speaker, but Republicans have decided hard-working educators.
