00:00heartening things that's come from this.
00:05And thank you there to my colleague, Stephanie Quinew, for that report,
00:09as we also remember and honor those victims who lost their lives during that collision.
00:13This hearing is getting underway now. Let's listen in.
00:21...and severance benefits agreement.
00:23That is an arrangement which dates to a circumstance and time much earlier in my professional career.
00:31American Airlines is not a formal party to the investigation.
00:35However, I am recusing myself from further participation in light of the business and
00:41corporate relationship between American Airlines and PSA Airlines, which is a party, of course.
00:48I commend our team and all of you participating in the hearing for your contributions.
00:55I am following the investigation closely and will be observing the hearing by video from my office here in the building.
01:03A thorough determination and examination of the facts is owed to those who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy
01:11and to their loved ones who are grieving the unimaginable loss.
01:15I know that some of those folks are here today and will be with us throughout the next few days.
01:20Our hearts go out to you.
01:22I'm confident the lessons learned from this investigation will help ensure such a tragedy can never be repeated.
01:29Chair, that concludes my remarks and my thanks again for the opportunity to explain my situation.
01:34Thank you, Member Chapman.
01:36And for those in the audience who may not be familiar, that's pretty standard.
01:40We all have different recusals that we come on board with.
01:44And so I appreciate that, Member Chapman, and we'll see you later.
01:49Member Graham, Member Inman, and I will comprise the Board of Inquiry for this investigative hearing.
01:56The notice for the hearing was published in the Federal Register on July 11th, 2025.
02:02I now recognize our hearing officer, Dr. Dan Bauer.
02:08Thank you, Chairwoman Homendy.
02:10Before we get started with today's meeting, please silence your electronic devices if you have not already done so.
02:17Restrooms are in the lobby to the left as you are exiting the boardroom.
02:23We will now share important safety information for those here in person.
02:29Please play the video.
02:40Hello, and welcome to the NCSB boardroom.
02:43Before we get started with today's meeting, I'd like to quickly walk you through our emergency procedures.
02:49First things first, please take a moment to silence your phones or other electronic devices.
02:56If you need the restrooms, they're just outside the boardroom on the left side of the lobby.
03:01Now, in case of an emergency, here's what you need to know.
03:06If someone experiences a medical emergency, our on-site Federal Protective Service officers are trained to respond.
03:14They'll call 911, perform CPR if needed, and use the automated external defibrillator device mounted in the lobby between the boardroom exit doors.
03:26They're also trained to provide first aid.
03:29There's a first aid kit at the security desk in the lobby.
03:33If we're asked to shelter in place, like during severe weather or a security incident, please stay seated and listen for instructions.
03:42Our security team will manage the situation and let us know when it's safe to leave.
03:48If the fire alarm sounds, please follow NTSB.
03:50If the fire alarm sounds, please follow NTSB.
