U.S. Open week in the world of golf.
00:03
The 2025 United States Open, our national championship,
00:07
the 125th playing of this major.
00:10
This year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Oakmont Country Club.
00:15
It is set to be an absolute beaut, but it's also going to be an absolute brute.
00:22
It is the toughest test in golf.
00:25
We're not exactly sure what that finishing score could potentially be.
00:28
Even around even par could be successful this week at the U.S. Open.
00:34
DRS Keith Stewart will be here throughout the week on TEL
00:38
to break down the action that we are seeing.
00:40
And, of course, tomorrow to set the stage for this week.
00:44
But any time that Scotty Scheffler is in the field at any PGA Tour event,
00:48
certainly at major championships, his price is going to be incredibly short.
00:52
That is the case this week, plus $2.80.
00:55
It is more than $4 shorter than anybody else on this list.
01:01
Scheffler, plus $2.80.
01:02
The reigning United States Open champ, Bryson DeChambeau,
01:06
who won last year at Pinehurst, a 7-1 number.
01:10
And Rory McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam earlier in the year at Augusta,
01:15
a 12-1 number alongside Jon Rahm.
01:18
Yeah, it's good stuff here.
01:19
I mean, the superstars come out for the big events and none bigger,
01:21
obviously, than the U.S. Open here.
01:23
It should be a great test of golf, but understand this.
01:25
Players that have won it in the past, that have won majors,
01:28
they pop up on the leaderboard because it's, hey, anybody can,
01:31
yeah, we understand anybody can win it.
01:33
But, my goodness, if you're in your spot for a first championship,
01:37
it's probably not going to be the U.S. Open at that point
01:39
because how tough it is to handle the rough
01:41
and handle all the pressure down the stretch it goes.
01:43
But it just, it's wild.
01:44
Like, we're going to talk about how tough this golf course is this week
01:47
and the way it sets up, which means, Ben, you should have, like, 25 guys
01:51
all stacked up on top of each other saying,
01:54
well, I don't know who's going to win because of how hard that golf course is
01:57
and how good these players are.
01:58
And yet, there's Scotty Scheffler in a U.S. Open at a plus 280 price
02:03
and the next competitor is Bryson DeChambeau, who won it last year at a 7-1 price.
02:09
It's always crazy.
02:10
And then I say, well, all right, that's the price I don't want to,
02:12
well, who do you want to take outside of Scotty Scheffler
02:14
when you know he's going to be there when it's all said and done
02:17
with a legitimate chance to win this.
02:19
But the price, plus 280 in a major, insanity,
02:24
and probably Scotty Scheffler will win it again.
02:28
DRS, from what I am seeing here,
02:29
I believe that Oakmont is playing at a par 70,
02:33
which means it's not your normal par 72,
02:37
not nearly as many par fives,
02:39
which are the scoring holes for these guys out there on the PGA Tour.
02:44
There are some tournament specials that kind of go to the idea
02:47
of what that winning score is going to be.
02:51
Par 70, four rounds, 70 times four, 280 in total,
02:56
under 278.5 for that winning score.
03:00
The total amount of strokes taken is minus 145.
03:05
If we were to stay under 278.5, 278 would be two under par.
03:10
But notice it's not 265 or even 270.
03:14
If you're a couple under par, a couple in those red figures,
03:18
you are going to have a chance to be crowned a major champion
03:21
in when the United States Open.
03:23
To your point, DRS, at the toughest test in golf.
03:26
Again, it's not that Scotty Scheffler is just a short favorite
03:29
in comparison to the entirety of the rest of the field.
03:33
It is shorter than $3.
03:34
It is plus 280.
03:36
DeChambeau, that second best number at 7-1, of course,
03:39
was in contention at the opening two majors this year.
03:43
Now, Rory McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam
03:46
at the Masters, of course, back in April,
03:49
winning his first career green jacket
03:51
and completing that career Grand Slam after 11 years.
03:56
But he has not been great since.
03:58
Was pretty bad at the PGA Championship.
04:00
At Quill Holloway Golf Course, he has had a lot of success at.
04:05
Skipped out on the Memorial Tournament at Jack's Place.
04:08
Did not meet with the media after any of his four rounds
04:11
at the PGA Championship.
04:13
And last week, DRS, at the RBC Canadian Open, missed the cut.
04:18
He shot a 78 on Friday.
04:21
One of his worst rounds in his PGA Tour career
04:25
in a non-major championship.
04:28
Rory is not entering the toughest test in golf
04:31
in really the best of his form.
04:34
Yeah, exactly.
04:34
And it's when we take a look at Major League Baseball and Equate,
04:37
it's like, hey, I don't really care what you did
04:38
in the last week of March or first couple weeks of April.
04:41
Give me the 30-day statistics.
04:43
How are you coming into this tournament?
04:44
Are you playing great golf?
04:45
Did you break in a new driver?
04:46
Are you having problems with your 8-iron?
04:48
Is your putter, you know, absolutely going bare?
04:50
Maybe that's the case for him.
04:52
But you're still talking about a price point
04:53
in the top three at 12-1 for him to win this
04:56
and shooting a 78 in a tournament
04:58
that wasn't all that tough
05:00
with a lot of pressure in Canada.
05:02
Now, things can turn around quickly
05:03
and maybe your head wasn't in the game that week
05:05
and you fixed a couple things on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
05:07
and you're ready to go here for Thursday's true test of golf.
05:10
But that's not something I look forward to.
05:11
Like, I'm not one of those type of handy guys.
05:13
Like, okay, ebbs and flows in golf.
05:15
He'll eventually get it back.
05:16
Like, oh, I love the fact,
05:18
I want to take a three-point shot in the NBA, Ben,
05:19
for a guy that went two of 12 the night before.
05:21
No, you know what I want to take?
05:23
The guy went seven of eight
05:24
because I know he's ready to go
05:25
saying every shot that he attempts,
05:27
he believes it's going in.
05:29
It's the same thing with Rory.
05:30
The last thing you want on a golf course
05:31
where if you're spraying your driver just a little bit,
05:34
not hitting fairways,
05:35
good luck with that at the Open.
05:36
Tough for me to get on Rory's bandwagon this week, Ben.
05:40
Yeah, DRS.
05:41
And again, one of the reasons that Scotty Scheffler
05:43
is such a short favorite
05:44
is not just because he is Scotty Scheffler,
05:46
but what he has done here as of late.
05:49
Finished fourth at the Masters,
05:50
then a T8 the following week at the RBC Heritage.
05:54
Then he won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson,
05:56
won the PGA Championship,
05:58
his first major title not at Augusta,
06:01
finished top five at the Charles Schwab at Colonial,
06:04
and of course last week won the Memorial.
06:06
He has three wins in his last four starts.
06:09
He has seven consecutive top tens
06:12
on the PGA Tour as well.
06:14
He is in brilliant form
06:15
entering the United States Open this week.
06:18
Of course, some other golfers, DRS,
06:20
that we expect to be in consideration.
06:23
Ludwig Oberg is a big game hunter, 27 to 1.
06:26
Joaquin Neiman has a great outlook.
06:29
He's been great this year on live.
06:31
30 to 1, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas,
06:33
a winner this year already at 40 to 1 as well.
06:37
Keith Stewart will be here
06:38
to give you the early leans on the early line,
06:41
I believe, tomorrow.
06:42
DRS, any golfers that you want to get down with
06:45
early on this week?
06:46
You know what, I've got to take a look
06:49
because I didn't do the research.
06:50
Now on the golf course, we know it's tough, Ben,
06:51
but as we know, if you're a scorer,
06:53
what are the conditions you like?
06:54
Hey, is it going to rain a little bit,
06:55
soften up those greens?
06:56
Are they going to cut down and trim the rough here?
06:58
So I need a little bit more information,
06:59
so I would like to talk to Keith and say,
07:01
how is it playing, who looks like they're in a spot,
07:03
and also the expectations for the tournament,
07:06
not for the players' perspective, Ben,
07:07
just for the course itself for me.
07:09
Pretty beautiful weather in the opening two rounds
07:12
at Oakmont, but Saturday and Sunday,
07:14
the potential of some showers.
07:16
MLB Breakdown, now.
