00:00U.S. Open week in the world of golf.
00:03The 2025 United States Open, our national championship,
00:07the 125th playing of this major.
00:10This year in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at Oakmont Country Club.
00:15It is set to be an absolute beaut, but it's also going to be an absolute brute.
00:22It is the toughest test in golf.
00:25We're not exactly sure what that finishing score could potentially be.
00:28Even around even par could be successful this week at the U.S. Open.
00:34DRS Keith Stewart will be here throughout the week on TEL
00:38to break down the action that we are seeing.
00:40And, of course, tomorrow to set the stage for this week.
00:44But any time that Scotty Scheffler is in the field at any PGA Tour event,
00:48certainly at major championships, his price is going to be incredibly short.
00:52That is the case this week, plus $2.80.
00:55It is more than $4 shorter than anybody else on this list.
01:01Scheffler, plus $2.80.
01:02The reigning United States Open champ, Bryson DeChambeau,
01:06who won last year at Pinehurst, a 7-1 number.
01:10And Rory McIlroy, who completed the career Grand Slam earlier in the year at Augusta,
01:15a 12-1 number alongside Jon Rahm.
01:18Yeah, it's good stuff here.
01:19I mean, the superstars come out for the big events and none bigger,
01:21obviously, than the U.S. Open here.
01:23It should be a great test of golf, but understand this.
01:25Players that have won it in the past, that have won majors,
01:28they pop up on the leaderboard because it's, hey, anybody can,
01:31yeah, we understand anybody can win it.
01:33But, my goodness, if you're in your spot for a first championship,
01:37it's probably not going to be the U.S. Open at that point
01:39because how tough it is to handle the rough
01:41and handle all the pressure down the stretch it goes.
01:43But it just, it's wild.
01:44Like, we're going to talk about how tough this golf course is this week
01:47and the way it sets up, which means, Ben, you should have, like, 25 guys
01:51all stacked up on top of each other saying,
01:54well, I don't know who's going to win because of how hard that golf course is
01:57and how good these players are.
01:58And yet, there's Scotty Scheffler in a U.S. Open at a plus 280 price
02:03and the next competitor is Bryson DeChambeau, who won it last year at a 7-1 price.
02:09It's always crazy.
02:10And then I say, well, all right, that's the price I don't want to,
02:12well, who do you want to take outside of Scotty Scheffler
02:14when you know he's going to be there when it's all said and done
02:17with a legitimate chance to win this.
02:19But the price, plus 280 in a major, insanity,
02:24and probably Scotty Scheffler will win it again.
02:28DRS, from what I am seeing here,
02:29I believe that Oakmont is playing at a par 70,
02:33which means it's not your normal par 72,
02:37not nearly as many par fives,
02:39which are the scoring holes for these guys out there on the PGA Tour.
02:44There are some tournament specials that kind of go to the idea
02:47of what that winning score is going to be.
02:51Par 70, four rounds, 70 times four, 280 in total,
02:56under 278.5 for that winning score.
03:00The total amount of strokes taken is minus 145.
03:05If we were to stay under 278.5, 278 would be two under par.
03:10But notice it's not 265 or even 270.
03:14If you're a couple under par, a couple in those red figures,
03:18you are going to have a chance to be crowned a major champion
03:21in when the United States Open.
03:23To your point, DRS, at the toughest test in golf.
03:26Again, it's not that Scotty Scheffler is just a short favorite
03:29in comparison to the entirety of the rest of the field.
03:33It is shorter than $3.
03:34It is plus 280.
03:36DeChambeau, that second best number at 7-1, of course,
03:39was in contention at the opening two majors this year.
03:43Now, Rory McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam
03:46at the Masters, of course, back in April,
03:49winning his first career green jacket
03:51and completing that career Grand Slam after 11 years.
03:56But he has not been great since.
03:58Was pretty bad at the PGA Championship.
04:00At Quill Holloway Golf Course, he has had a lot of success at.
04:05Skipped out on the Memorial Tournament at Jack's Place.
04:08Did not meet with the media after any of his four rounds
04:11at the PGA Championship.
04:13And last week, DRS, at the RBC Canadian Open, missed the cut.
04:18He shot a 78 on Friday.
04:21One of his worst rounds in his PGA Tour career
04:25in a non-major championship.
04:28Rory is not entering the toughest test in golf
04:31in really the best of his form.
04:34Yeah, exactly.
04:34And it's when we take a look at Major League Baseball and Equate,
04:37it's like, hey, I don't really care what you did
04:38in the last week of March or first couple weeks of April.
04:41Give me the 30-day statistics.
04:43How are you coming into this tournament?
04:44Are you playing great golf?
04:45Did you break in a new driver?
04:46Are you having problems with your 8-iron?
04:48Is your putter, you know, absolutely going bare?
04:50Maybe that's the case for him.
04:52But you're still talking about a price point
04:53in the top three at 12-1 for him to win this
04:56and shooting a 78 in a tournament
04:58that wasn't all that tough
05:00with a lot of pressure in Canada.
05:02Now, things can turn around quickly
05:03and maybe your head wasn't in the game that week
05:05and you fixed a couple things on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
05:07and you're ready to go here for Thursday's true test of golf.
05:10But that's not something I look forward to.
05:11Like, I'm not one of those type of handy guys.
05:13Like, okay, ebbs and flows in golf.
05:15He'll eventually get it back.
05:16Like, oh, I love the fact,
05:18I want to take a three-point shot in the NBA, Ben,
05:19for a guy that went two of 12 the night before.
05:21No, you know what I want to take?
05:23The guy went seven of eight
05:24because I know he's ready to go
05:25saying every shot that he attempts,
05:27he believes it's going in.
05:29It's the same thing with Rory.
05:30The last thing you want on a golf course
05:31where if you're spraying your driver just a little bit,
05:34not hitting fairways,
05:35good luck with that at the Open.
05:36Tough for me to get on Rory's bandwagon this week, Ben.
05:40Yeah, DRS.
05:41And again, one of the reasons that Scotty Scheffler
05:43is such a short favorite
05:44is not just because he is Scotty Scheffler,
05:46but what he has done here as of late.
05:49Finished fourth at the Masters,
05:50then a T8 the following week at the RBC Heritage.
05:54Then he won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson,
05:56won the PGA Championship,
05:58his first major title not at Augusta,
06:01finished top five at the Charles Schwab at Colonial,
06:04and of course last week won the Memorial.
06:06He has three wins in his last four starts.
06:09He has seven consecutive top tens
06:12on the PGA Tour as well.
06:14He is in brilliant form
06:15entering the United States Open this week.
06:18Of course, some other golfers, DRS,
06:20that we expect to be in consideration.
06:23Ludwig Oberg is a big game hunter, 27 to 1.
06:26Joaquin Neiman has a great outlook.
06:29He's been great this year on live.
06:3130 to 1, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas,
06:33a winner this year already at 40 to 1 as well.
06:37Keith Stewart will be here
06:38to give you the early leans on the early line,
06:41I believe, tomorrow.
06:42DRS, any golfers that you want to get down with
06:45early on this week?
06:46You know what, I've got to take a look
06:49because I didn't do the research.
06:50Now on the golf course, we know it's tough, Ben,
06:51but as we know, if you're a scorer,
06:53what are the conditions you like?
06:54Hey, is it going to rain a little bit,
06:55soften up those greens?
06:56Are they going to cut down and trim the rough here?
06:58So I need a little bit more information,
06:59so I would like to talk to Keith and say,
07:01how is it playing, who looks like they're in a spot,
07:03and also the expectations for the tournament,
07:06not for the players' perspective, Ben,
07:07just for the course itself for me.
07:09Pretty beautiful weather in the opening two rounds
07:12at Oakmont, but Saturday and Sunday,
07:14the potential of some showers.
07:16MLB Breakdown, now.
