Definitely not talking about washouts, but rain chances exist daily through the weekend before Minnesota warms up and dries out.
Transcript
00:00Well, we have another pleasant day for the Twin Cities in southeastern Minnesota.
00:03Still a little unsettled weather for northern and western Minnesota,
00:06and we all head into an unsettled pattern with spotty showers and storms into the weekend.
00:24So, temperatures will be close to 80 this afternoon in the Twin Cities in southeastern
00:29Minnesota, where we'll see the most sun.
00:30We've got some clouds popping up in the western part of the state,
00:33some instability generating some pop-up showers and thunderstorms,
00:36but a more organized cluster of activity out of South Dakota that is headed east-northeast
00:41into the region for tonight into tomorrow morning.
00:43So, expect showers overnight tonight, later in the night, into the early morning hours tomorrow.
00:48But this afternoon, northern and western Minnesota, some pop-up showers,
00:51but that more organized cluster of showers.
00:54Here's 4 a.m. Friday, probably some showers left for the morning commute.
00:57And then that'll move out, we'll see clouds decrease,
00:59and then maybe some pop-up showers again later in the afternoon,
01:03as we see a little sunshine in the midday and early afternoon.
01:05That's going to keep temperatures down tomorrow, too.
01:07Low 70s for highs, but upper 70s in the northwest corner of the state,
01:10where we'll see more stable conditions and a little more sunshine.
01:14But we've got a bunch of minor disturbances kind of lined up to the west.
01:17All these little Xs, those are little vorticity areas,
01:20or little troughs aloft, essentially, what we call these short waves.
01:24They're just essentially little pools of cool air in the middle atmosphere that generate instability.
01:29So, they're going to create, basically every 12 hours, a chance of some spotty showers and thunderstorms.
01:34The next more significant one after tonight will come Saturday night.
01:37Cool front comes through along with this upper-level low,
01:39and then some lingering cool air aloft Sunday and Monday will generate some spotty showers and thunderstorms.
01:44So, already late Saturday.
01:46Again, some convective potential activity here, some pop-up showers and storms,
01:49and then that more organized wave ahead of a cool front Saturday night.
01:53But then again, Sunday afternoon, especially for the northern half of the state,
01:56could see some pop-up showers and thunderstorms,
01:57because we will see some sunshine each of these days, too,
02:00generating some of that instability with the cooler air aloft.
02:03But in total, we're not talking a ton of rain here over the next several days.
02:07And actually, this could line up well for northern Minnesota.
02:10You might see a half inch to an inch of rain, and they need it.
02:13These are the areas that are getting pretty dry here.
02:15They're abnormally dry in yellow and orange.
02:18We still have moderate drought hanging out in north-central Minnesota.
02:21So, while we've seen one to two inches of rain in the last seven days,
02:24northeastern Minnesota in particular has only seen nothing to only as much as a tenth or two-tenths of an inch of some rainfall.
02:31So, this cool air aloft, that unsettled weather for the weekend,
02:35and keeping temperatures slightly below normal.
02:38But then as we head into next week, we're going to gradually move into this upper-level ridge pattern.
02:41That means hotter, drier conditions midweek into the end of next week.
02:45And in fact, by Wednesday, we should be in the 80s.
02:47Thursday, here's just a sample of temperatures we'll see later next week.
02:51Mid, maybe even some upper 80s.
02:53I don't see quite 90, but it is going to be above normal.
02:56Normal highs in the upper 70s next week.
02:58So, we're going to be at least 5, 10, maybe 15 degrees above that.
03:02Close to that 80-degree mark today, though.
03:04Again, some spotty showers this afternoon north and west.
03:07And then we get our chance tonight, after midnight, and then into tomorrow morning, some scattered showers.
03:12Decreasing clouds then, 73, and then an isolated pop-up shower later in the afternoon.
03:17Some pop-up showers possible Saturday with that better chance Saturday night ahead of that cool front.
03:22Most of that will clear us Sunday morning.
03:24And then just some isolated showers popping up again both Sunday and Monday afternoons.
03:28A little cooler those days, too.
03:29But brighter and warming up here as we head into Tuesday, and especially Wednesday with highs back into the 80s.
