00:00:00Prior six yards gave the Patriots a 7-0 lead, Randy McMillan a half-yard run, tied it, 7-7 after one quarter.
00:00:07Tony Franklin field goal, made it 10-7 New England.
00:00:10After a Fred Murray interception, a Stanley Morgan 14-yard touchdown reception, 17-7 New England.
00:00:16Raul Allegri, 25 yards and $3,000 richer, made it 17-10.
00:00:22A McMillan touchdown run, tied it at 17, and then this.
00:00:25Seven plays, 73 yards, but 62 yards of that was a wide-open Irving Friar.
00:00:31Craig James finished it off with a cutback run from four yards in the Patriots' lead, 24-17, and still 69 seconds remain in this wacky first half.
00:00:42Could be a couple of more scores yet in 69 seconds, huh?
00:00:45Franklin kicks it away to Albert Bentley, one yard deep.
00:00:48And Bentley is grabbed by Rod McSwain at the 13.
00:00:56Excellent tackle by Rod McSwain.
00:01:00He beat the blocker, squared down, slowed down, kept the right base on his feet, lowered the head,
00:01:07just made an excellent tackle, putting his head right in the bread basket of the ball carrier.
00:01:11So the Colts now have 64 seconds, and defensively for the New England Patriots,
00:01:17obviously with the serious injury to Ken Sims, Garen Varis is in, as is Lester Williams.
00:01:25Patriots with a four-man front, but Sims is out, fractured leg, and likely that he will play again this season.
00:01:33A costly loss, Sims is having a fine year, his best is approved.
00:01:37One, two, three.
00:01:39Pagel on first down.
00:01:43And he's, ooh, nearly completed to Booza,
00:01:46and then Claiborne nearly picked it off after Marion put the hit on Booza.
00:01:52Once again, Bob, let's hark back now to that injury to Kenneth Sims,
00:01:56and the irony here is really his own fault as he tried a leg whip.
00:02:00There you see number 77 in white, missing the tackle, whipping his leg up.
00:02:04Now that is an illegal ploy by a defensive tackler.
00:02:07Unfortunately for the Patriots, Kenneth Sims has just started to come into his own.
00:02:12He was the first pick in the entire draft four years ago and got off to kind of a slow start,
00:02:16but coming into his own this year, generally regarded as the Patriots' best lineman this year,
00:02:21they can ill afford the loss of Kenneth Sims.
00:02:23Second down from the 15.
00:02:26Pat Beech, that's another drop.
00:02:28That was a catchable ball again.
00:02:31And Beech points a finger at a defensive back.
00:02:33So some of these incompletions from Mike Pagel are not his fault.
00:02:38They're not Mike Pagel's fault, but that ball was deflected.
00:02:41But I believe that the defender got a hand on that ball just as he was coming in to the hands of the receiver.
00:02:47And on the previous play, it's understandable why that one's dropped.
00:02:50Freddie Marion put some kind of hit on the receiver just as he was catching the ball.
00:02:54So the balls are being thrown very well by Pagel.
00:02:57They're there.
00:02:58He's putting them where they should be put,
00:03:00but it's excellent defense on the part of the Patriots' secondary that's preventing the first downs.
00:03:04Third down in the 15th.
00:03:09Draw play, McMillan.
00:03:12And McMillan does not get to the 20.
00:03:15So the Patriots immediately stop the clock with a timeout
00:03:18because there are still 46 seconds remaining in the half,
00:03:22and the Colts will have to punt it away.
00:03:25So the Patriots use the first of their three timeouts.
00:03:27It's Mike Pagel on the offense.
00:03:29We'll head off.
00:03:30They've had a pretty fair first half, putting 17 points on the board,
00:03:34but two interceptions and a wide-open Irving Pryor have killed the Colts this afternoon.
00:03:40I'd like to remind you that coming up next here on NBC Sports,
00:03:43the conclusion of the Skins game, the third annual event,
00:03:47featuring defending champion Jack Nicklaus, PGA Player of the Year Tom Watson,
00:03:51U.S. Open winner Fuzzy Zeller,
00:03:52and of course Arnold Palmer, who scooped up all that loose change yesterday.
00:03:56The unique Skins game from the Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, California,
00:04:02all coming up next right here on NBC Sports.
00:04:07Glenn, I believe that the Patriots here, they smell,
00:04:10they've got the little taste of blood here now.
00:04:11There's only 46 seconds left in the half,
00:04:13but they've called timeout to force the Colts to punt them
00:04:17so they can get the ball back.
00:04:18Hopefully in Colt territory, they want to get another score on the board,
00:04:21maybe put this game away here at halftime.
00:04:23Well, Stark will punt again.
00:04:25Remember, Irving Pryor has tied a club record
00:04:27with two punt returns for touchdowns this year.
00:04:31That is not a good punt from Stark, and it bounces.
00:04:35It takes a Patriots bounce, not a bounce at the 42 or 43.
00:04:39So the Patriots have 36 seconds left
00:04:41after a, for Ron Stark, a poor 38-yard punt.
00:04:46Very poor.
00:04:47They also have two timeouts,
00:04:48and there's plenty of time for the Patriots
00:04:50to get yet another score on the board before halftime.
00:04:54Now, watching that last replay of that leg whip,
00:04:56I just want to give a credit to our producer, Peter Rolfe,
00:04:58and our director, Harry Coyle, here this afternoon.
00:05:00Their work down in the truck.
00:05:03Obviously, you hate to see any player injured,
00:05:05but the irony, of course,
00:05:07when it was his own play that caused the injury,
00:05:11a play that's an illegal play.
00:05:12That's right.
00:05:12It was illegal, but it may have been an instinctive situation.
00:05:14I don't know that if he thought about that.
00:05:16It's something that you do when you're off balance.
00:05:18From the 43, first down.
00:05:20Eason going long.
00:05:21Fryer's open again, and Eason overthrows him.
00:05:25But what was this about a calf bruise for Irvin Fryer,
00:05:28and he wasn't going to start?
00:05:29And Eason's saying, I missed it by that much, darn.
00:05:31And Fryer doesn't look injured at all to me.
00:05:34He certainly doesn't.
00:05:35I think it's the old sucker play.
00:05:36Oh, I'm hurt, I'm hurt, I'm not going to play much today.
00:05:38And then, zoom.
00:05:40Nesby Glasgow is trailing him,
00:05:41but by about five or six yards,
00:05:43and Nesby shaking his head,
00:05:44looking to his teammates, saying,
00:05:46Hey, guys, where were you?
00:05:47I thought I had help deep.
00:05:48And if you're just joining us at 2.35 in the afternoon Eastern time,
00:05:51this is still the first half.
00:05:53It is the Patriots 24, Colts 17.
00:05:56Two injuries, two ejections,
00:05:58and some razzle-dazzle.
00:06:00And an action-filled first half.
00:06:02Eason runs it himself out of bounds over into the Colts bench area.
00:06:12Barry Krause pats him on the back.
00:06:15And we still have 23 seconds remaining in the half,
00:06:18and this will be third down.
00:06:19Well, so far, he's got to be fairly impressed with Tony Eason's ballgame.
00:06:25He's gone downfield, downtown, upfield, I should say,
00:06:29when the situation's called for it.
00:06:30Here in the waning seconds of the first half,
00:06:33he's gone for the home run,
00:06:34and he's throwing the ball fairly well.
00:06:37He's throwing the ball well deep,
00:06:39and also throwing a lot of short passes that are on the money.
00:06:41And when we get to halftime,
00:06:43we will hear from Bob and Ahmad and Keith at NFL 85.
00:06:48Shotgun formation, third and six at the 47.
00:06:51Seven defensive backs in for the Colts.
00:06:56And one of them, Tate Randall, nearly intercepts the pass.
00:06:59Nobody was there.
00:07:00Perhaps Stanley Morgan was the intended receiver,
00:07:04but Tate Randall was the closest man to the ball.
00:07:07Fourth-year player at a Texas Tech,
00:07:09and now Tony Eason heads to the far side.
00:07:11And the Patriots will punt.
00:07:13The intended receiver here is Stanley Morgan,
00:07:14coming from the left side of your screen,
00:07:16but he's not in your screen because he ran an out cut.
00:07:19Eason anticipating a post pattern
00:07:21with Morgan going deep over the middle.
00:07:23They had their signal switched
00:07:25because Judge Morgan cut to the outside,
00:07:27and the only one that had any potential of catching that ball
00:07:29was wearing the wrong colored jersey.
00:07:31So Camarillo will punt away,
00:07:33not having a good day, as you see.
00:07:35Robbie Martin has returned one for a touchdown this year.
00:07:38This one he will watch bounce, out of bounds.
00:07:41Will it get out of bounds?
00:07:42No.
00:07:42Takes a Patriots bounce, and finally out at the four.
00:07:46And just seven seconds remain.
00:07:48So Colts will likely plop on the ball
00:07:53unless they try a little Bart Starr play-action fake 96-yard attempt.
00:07:59That was an amazing punt, Len.
00:08:01It's almost as if Camarillo had a little homing device in that ball.
00:08:04He not only put it in the corner,
00:08:05but it came down about a foot from the sideline,
00:08:07and instead of bouncing out of bounds,
00:08:09it stayed inbounds and trickled all the way down to the four-yard line.
00:08:1247-yarders.
00:08:12So Camarillo is winning the battle with Stark today.
00:08:16Stark ahead of him in the rankings.
00:08:19Let's see what the Colts elect to do.
00:08:2424-17 Patriots.
00:08:27Final seven seconds and a handoff to McMillan.
00:08:30McMillan busts to the 16,
00:08:32and that'll do it for a first half
00:08:36filled with five touchdowns
00:08:39and two injuries and two disqualifications.
00:08:44It's been something.
00:08:45In about two rounds of heavyweight boxing,
00:08:47and it had a little bit of everything for the fans here today, Len.
00:08:50What is your gut feeling now?
00:08:52Again, to follow up on our pregame theme,
00:08:54first of all, obviously the Colts have not packed it in,
00:08:56so that answered the first question from early.
00:08:58The premier pick in the entire draft,
00:09:00it puts him under a microscope,
00:09:01and he just didn't relate that well.
00:09:03But he's letting his play do his talking for him lately,
00:09:06and that's what the coaches want in the final analysis.
00:09:08The Colts kick it away to start the second half.
00:09:11Stefan starring.
00:09:13This time he doesn't bring it out.
00:09:17So, the Patriots will start at the 20th.
00:09:26So our halftime statistics.
00:09:29Take a look if there's any big discrepancy.
00:09:31Things are fairly, even the two turnovers were critical,
00:09:33so that's really the big step.
00:09:34The turnovers, the two interceptions that led to 14 points for the Patriots.
00:09:40That's right, especially considering the Colts turn the ball over,
00:09:43first drive of the game, deep in their own territory.
00:09:45If you take away that mishap, you've got a dead, even ball game.
00:09:49So, first down at the 20th, Cliff Odom is back on defense for the Colts.
00:09:58A little pass out from Morgan, and Morgan runs it up close to first down territory.
00:10:04Cliff Odom was injured with a dislocated middle finger in the first half,
00:10:08a linebacker, number 93 for the Colts,
00:10:10but he's back in action starting the second half.
00:10:13But fellas who are out, Steve Moore, there's Odom.
00:10:17But his teammate, Donnell Thompson, and the offensive lineman for the Patriots,
00:10:20Steve Moore, both ejected for kind of a pity-pat fight.
00:10:24That's right, like a couple of Fanny Roosters.
00:10:26But Cliff Odom is having the finest season of his career.
00:10:29It's his fifth year.
00:10:30He's leading the team so far, going in today with 148 tackles,
00:10:34a couple of sacks, making things happen in the middle of that Colt defense.
00:10:37He's all got to pick up close to seven.
00:10:41But the second and three is Easton tells Craig James where to go.
00:10:45He has to call a timeout as the 32nd clock is down to three,
00:10:51and Easton spent so much time directing traffic
00:10:54that he was forced to take a timeout in the opening seconds of the second half.
00:10:59Which surely you don't want to do.
00:11:00You're involved in a very surprisingly tough ball game on the road.
00:11:05You're in a hostile stadium in front of a loud crowd.
00:11:10And you don't want to utilize one of your three precious timeouts
00:11:13in the first few seconds of the opening of the second half.
00:11:18You see Steve Grogan leaning over his crutches,
00:11:21so the injury bug has hit the Patriots hard.
00:11:23First, Grogan with a broken leg.
00:11:25Now, Kenneth Sims, two premier performers in back-to-back weeks.
00:11:30Irony with Grogan is, he said in future years, if he comes back,
00:11:33he may avoid week number 12.
00:11:36Several different years, he's been knocked out of commission
00:11:39in the 12th week of the season.
00:11:40Unlucky Baker's dozen for Grogan.
00:11:44Kind of like the 13th floor in a building.
00:11:46You go from 12 to 14 in a high rise.
00:11:49The Patriots return home after this three-game road trip.
00:11:52We'll see what the reaction of the fans is to Tony Easton.
00:11:55They did not greet him well when he was the starter.
00:11:57In fact, they cheered when he was injured in the game against Buffalo.
00:12:00He's received some rough treatment there.
00:12:01Then that tough game is just the same as preseason, right?
00:12:05So what if Walter Payton didn't play in the 3rd game?
00:12:08So second and three from the 27th.
00:12:10Flag is down.
00:12:12Easton through the hands.
00:12:15But Morgan let it slip through.
00:12:18Eugene Daniel covering.
00:12:21Motion against New England.
00:12:22So if you decide to take it, they will give them 2nd down again.
00:12:29If they refuse, it will be 3rd down.
00:12:31Take a motion.
00:12:33Number 66.
00:12:34Offense.
00:12:35Still 2nd down.
00:12:36Well, they take it.
00:12:37So it backs it up to 2nd and 8.
00:12:40To the 21.
00:12:42That's right, Len.
00:12:43As a defender, a defending team here, 2nd and 3 or 3rd and 3 is not an enviable position to be in.
00:12:50So they decided they'd rather have 2nd and 9 or 2nd and 8 rather than 3rd and 3.
00:12:56Saw Juggs Morgan.
00:12:58Saw Stanley Morgan.
00:12:58They drop a ball that ordinarily he makes that catch.
00:13:01You won't see that too many times.
00:13:02We keep calling him Juggs.
00:13:03I remember his nickname as the Stanley Steamer coming out of Tennessee.
00:13:07Is that because of all the work he does with the Juggs machine?
00:13:10Did he buy one himself for his home?
00:13:12I believe he did, yes.
00:13:202nd and 8.
00:13:23Rushes on.
00:13:24They've got him.
00:13:26Dwayne Bickett.
00:13:28First round draft choice out of USC.
00:13:30Dwayne Bickett in the running as one of the American Football Conference's Rookie of the Year.
00:13:36Having a fine season.
00:13:37Come in to the game today with 105 tackles.
00:13:40And you're going to see him coming from the right-hand side of your screen here late.
00:13:43Number 50 in blue.
00:13:45Putting the finishing touches on a harassed Tony Eason.
00:13:49Dwayne Bickett's coach in college at University of Southern California said that along with Chip Banks,
00:13:54the finest linebackers that have ever played at USC.
00:13:58That is a mouthful.
00:13:59His third sack of the year.
00:14:00He's out in the nickel back or dime back the line that they have six defensive backs in.
00:14:06Shotgun, third and 12 at the 18.
00:14:09Here they come again.
00:14:11They've got him again!
00:14:12And it's Keith Lee, the former New England Patriot, sacking Tony Eason.
00:14:24That's got to be a little extra sweet for an ex-Patriot.
00:14:27Coming from the outside on a halfback blitz.
00:14:30Beating the block by Lynn Dawson.
00:14:31Not giving up.
00:14:33Ordinarily the ball would be away, but the secondary is doing a good job of coverage here.
00:14:35It enables Keith Lee with second effort to get a key sack.
00:14:39And Lynn, this is a very important drive.
00:14:41The opening drive of the second half sets the tone.
00:14:43If the Patriots had come out here and moved the ball right down the field methodically,
00:14:47perhaps the Colts would have pulled up the tent and packed it in until next week.
00:14:50Not the case here.
00:14:51We've got a ball game in our hands.
00:14:53And Camarillo back under his goal post again.
00:14:57And he gets a better one away this time.
00:15:00Drives Robbie Martin back to his 44.
00:15:03And Martin dances to maybe the 48 before he's plowed under.
00:15:09Jim Bowman, one of the Patriots in on the tackle.
00:15:12Tackled by Ed Williams.
00:15:13As well as Ed Williams.
00:15:15So, 13-35.
00:15:18Left third quarter.
00:15:20The Colts get the ball back in good shape.
00:15:25And they're trailing by seven.
00:15:27But you are right.
00:15:28The defense setting the tone with the two consecutive sacks.
00:15:31There's Lee.
00:15:32Late for New England, but picks up his first sack here with the Colts.
00:15:38So, before the Colts start on offense, we'll take a timeout.
00:15:42The Patriots lead by seven.
00:15:43Down for the Colts at their 49.
00:15:46Nagel, Pumpkin, throwing deep for Wayne Caper.
00:15:49And he tried to reach around and couldn't do it.
00:15:53The defender, Raymond Claiborne.
00:15:54And you saw Capers trying to reach around Claiborne and grab the pass, but couldn't do it.
00:16:01But Colts throwing caution to the wind.
00:16:03They're not playing conservatively.
00:16:04Offensively or defensively with that halfback.
00:16:06That's a little while ago.
00:16:07You see Pegel here initially was going to go short.
00:16:09The play designed to go short, but there was good coverage.
00:16:12And Pegel with a heads-up ability to see downfield try to hit Capers over the top.
00:16:16But Raymond Claiborne, once again, one of the premier cornerbacks in the league, running stride for stride with Wayne Capers.
00:16:22I might have thought they'd go back to their pregame strategy of running left.
00:16:26Now in good field position, but they didn't do it.
00:16:29Mark Boyer in motion.
00:16:30Second down at their 49.
00:16:31McMillan wasn't fooled.
00:16:39Don Blackman wrapped him up for no gain.
00:16:42And this will set up third down as he's thrown for a loss on the play.
00:16:49Don Blackman got the tackle.
00:16:51The real credit in that play should go to number 38, the strong safety, Roland James.
00:16:55He came up, read the play, diagnosed it, made a good stuff, a tough stance, and took on the blocker, Big Ben Butt,
00:17:05and stuffed him and forced the play inside so that the tackle could be made.
00:17:09So third and 14.
00:17:11The Patriots go to five defensive backs.
00:17:14The Colts go to three wide receivers and the shotgun.
00:17:18Here comes Garron Barris.
00:17:20And you talked about Dwayne Bickett before being in the running for a rookie award.
00:17:24Garron Barris has set a Patriots team record.
00:17:26That is his ninth sack, a rookie team record.
00:17:31That's right.
00:17:31He's having a fine rookie season.
00:17:33That is the Patriot team record.
00:17:35Sacks for a rookie.
00:17:36You see him here beating Chris Hinton, a former All-Pro, and a fine offensive tackle.
00:17:40Garron Barris, the rookie, just beat him to the outside.
00:17:42Now Garron Barris, by the way, is going to have to be playing the starting left defensive end in place of Kenneth Sims.
00:17:48So he's going to have his hands full today and certainly get battle tested.
00:17:51An interesting selection of plays by the Colts.
00:17:54They went wide open with the sword and they died by it on that series.
00:17:57Three plays in punt.
00:17:59Stark with his 299th career punt.
00:18:05High snap.
00:18:06Good fielder.
00:18:07Decent punt.
00:18:09Fair catch.
00:18:10Well, he waved his hand and took it down.
00:18:12And then Friar and a flag is thrown.
00:18:13I think they'll call a legal fair catch signal.
00:18:16He put his hand up briefly.
00:18:18You're supposed to wave it.
00:18:19Then he took his hand down.
00:18:20And let's see what the call is.
00:18:23Mark Boyer made the stop.
00:18:25This year you have to wave significantly.
00:18:30You just can't put up your hand half-heartedly.
00:18:32Invalid fair catch signal, number 80 on the receivers.
00:18:36Invalid fair catch signal, says our referee Bob McElwee.
00:18:39You'll see it here.
00:18:40Look, he waves.
00:18:41What is that?
00:18:42You know something in your eye?
00:18:45I don't know.
00:18:45He gave the signal.
00:18:47That's a tough situation.
00:18:48You have to use judgment as a tackler coming down there.
00:18:50Did he wave or didn't he wave?
00:18:51You never really know.
00:18:52That wasn't much of a signal.
00:18:53All right, timeout.
00:18:55Patriots get the ball back.
00:18:56Rise and shine.
00:18:58The snap with Pat Beach.
00:19:00The next time he takes the snap as a punter,
00:19:03it will set an NFL record.
00:19:04It will be his 300th career punt.
00:19:06That would qualify him on the all-time list
00:19:08and make him number one all-time
00:19:11with a 45-plus average,
00:19:14surpassing the great Sammy Baugh.
00:19:16Sling Sammy Baugh.
00:19:17That's an amazing accomplishment for this young man.
00:19:21Tremendous athlete out of Florida State.
00:19:23Does a lot of things very well.
00:19:25I'll confess my ignorance.
00:19:26I wasn't aware the ball was a great punter.
00:19:28I knew he was an all-time record-setter as a passer.
00:19:32First down for the Patriots at their 20s.
00:19:34The crowd comes to life.
00:19:37And straight ahead goes Tony Collins.
00:19:41So after lots of scoring in the second quarter,
00:19:45teams are struggling offensively,
00:19:47or let's credit the defense here so far.
00:19:49Taking a look at big John Hanna here.
00:19:51You know, when the chips are down and the pressure's on,
00:19:53do what you do best.
00:19:54Tuck in behind big Hog Hanna.
00:19:56And that time there was certainly no love lost
00:19:57between the two Alabama boys.
00:19:59Hog Hanna putting it to his Alabama mate very cross.
00:20:02I thought I was speaking before the game.
00:20:04It's surprising how friendly they are before the game.
00:20:07And then once the action begins,
00:20:09they go all out.
00:20:10Second and four.
00:20:11Don't let it fool you.
00:20:12Tony Collins trying to turn the corner.
00:20:14Does it for a first down.
00:20:16On and out at the 32.
00:20:17Cliff Odom playing with a dislocated middle finger
00:20:20on the right hand.
00:20:22And he has that hand all the way wrapped up.
00:20:24He's the one who pushed out.
00:20:25Collins, but not before Tony could grab the first down.
00:20:29You know what's amazing, Lynn,
00:20:30is the size and ability and mobility
00:20:32of these offensive linemen nowadays.
00:20:34When I was drafted in 1969,
00:20:36I was 6'2 and maybe 2'45.
00:20:39I don't think I'd be drafted today.
00:20:40That time, big Brian Holloway,
00:20:426'7", 288 pounds,
00:20:43pulled all the way from his left tackle spot
00:20:45and was leading the sweep to the right sideline.
00:20:48First down at the 32.
00:20:53Greg James brings it up to the 37.
00:20:55So, the Patriots doing what I thought the Colts might have done.
00:21:00Doing it on the ground.
00:21:01Chris Scott, second-year man from nearby Purdue,
00:21:04making the tackle.
00:21:05Taking a look at Barry Krause here.
00:21:06Now, he's going to get hit once again.
00:21:09He and the other linebacker are going to be taking on the...
00:21:12You see John Hanna getting movement there on Cliff Odom.
00:21:15What the Colts inside linebackers had better start doing now
00:21:18is slanting their nose guard and slanting their defensive ends
00:21:20to start knocking those guards off
00:21:21because the guards are coming out and blowing them off the ball.
00:21:24Second and five at the 37.
00:21:26Second man is Collins.
00:21:28Nothing there.
00:21:29Turns it back up and maybe gets two.
00:21:33So, before this third down in short play coming up,
00:21:36let's go to Ahmad Rashad for an update at NFL 85.
00:21:41Seeing another hurricane.
00:21:43Eddie Brown.
00:21:44So, third and three at the 39.
00:21:47The shotgun for Tony Eason.
00:21:49Throwing, completing first down to Craig James at midfield.
00:21:56And a big third down completion for Tony Eason,
00:21:59who doesn't show emotion one way or the other very much.
00:22:03That was an important little play right there for Eason.
00:22:05That's right.
00:22:06In talking to him before the game,
00:22:07he did not exactly instill a lot of confidence in us
00:22:09in his ability today.
00:22:11But he's getting the job done today when it has to be done.
00:22:14And you see why Craig James is one of the better all-round backs
00:22:17in the American Football Conference.
00:22:19Taking another look at John Hanna here.
00:22:21One of the premier linemen over the years.
00:22:23And he started out blocking the defensive end there
00:22:25and very alertly switched off man.
00:22:27And that takes a lot of experience.
00:22:29First down to 49.
00:22:30Now James on the ground.
00:22:31Perhaps gets two.
00:22:33Well, at the end of that last play,
00:22:35I saw Craig James get around the linebacker, Johnny Cooks.
00:22:38And I can't help but remember that it was Johnny Cooks
00:22:41who scooped up a fumble in overtime
00:22:43to beat the Patriots opening day in 83.
00:22:46There's Johnny Cooks.
00:22:48Yet another Patriots overtime loss.
00:22:50They have yet to win in regular season in overtime,
00:22:53including the Jets last week.
00:22:54But I remember calling one game back in Boston
00:22:56during the preseason in the 70s
00:22:58when they beat the Giants in overtime in a preseason game.
00:23:00So they have won in preseason in OT,
00:23:03but never regular season.
00:23:06Second and eight, 47 yard line.
00:23:10And straight ahead,
00:23:12Tony Collins close to the 40,
00:23:14but he will be shy of a first down.
00:23:19Impressive display by the Patriots offensive line.
00:23:22This drive, they're coming out,
00:23:24they're plowing straight ahead,
00:23:26they're starting to dominate,
00:23:27they're winning the war on the pitch.
00:23:29The line is coming to see the center there
00:23:31doing an excellent job.
00:23:32And then, I believe it was Mosey Tutupu,
00:23:35an excellent blocking back,
00:23:36coming in and doing a good job of blocking Gary Krause.
00:23:38The Patriots offensive line,
00:23:40the O-line,
00:23:40starting to dominate now.
00:23:42This is the short yardage alignment,
00:23:44Tutupu and Weathers.
00:23:45Here's Tutupu.
00:23:47Gets the first down,
00:23:48I believe,
00:23:49before he's driven back.
00:23:50Let's see where they mark it.
00:23:51It will be very close on this third down play.
00:23:54I think you're right, Len.
00:23:55I think he got it.
00:23:56And if he did get it,
00:23:57it was all on him,
00:23:57because he started getting hit
00:23:58before he crossed the line of scrimmage.
00:24:00Not many backs can make people miss
00:24:02in a crowd like that
00:24:03and get the extra foot
00:24:04or two feet or three feet that's required.
00:24:06This will be very close,
00:24:08and timeout is taken
00:24:09for the chain gang to measure.
00:24:10Do the Patriots have to punt
00:24:17or do they keep it for four more?
00:24:22First down.
00:24:23Half the length of the ball.
00:24:27Taking a look at number 30,
00:24:28Mosey Tutupu is going to cut to the outside
00:24:29and he's going to run to his own man there
00:24:31and keep driving his legs
00:24:32and that extra effort,
00:24:33even though the Colts look like the Marines
00:24:36on Iwo Jima there,
00:24:37stacking him up,
00:24:38but it's that extra effort
00:24:40that got him the extra length
00:24:41of the football for the first down.
00:24:43Ninth play of this drive.
00:24:47First down for the Patriots
00:24:48at the Colt 39.
00:24:497.24 remaining.
00:24:52Third quarter,
00:24:52the Patriots lead it by seven.
00:24:54Play action fake.
00:24:56Over the...
00:24:56Wide open is Stephan Starring.
00:24:58Starring the races on.
00:25:00Out of bounds inside the 15.
00:25:02Saw another big pickup for Tony Eason
00:25:04getting it to Stephan Starring,
00:25:06finally driven out by Anthony Young.
00:25:09Once again, Tony Eason.
00:25:11What happens here is Stanley Morgan
00:25:12on the left side of your screen
00:25:13runs a clearing pattern.
00:25:15It's a little fake play action pass
00:25:17and Morgan has already cleared this area out
00:25:19for Stephan Starring,
00:25:20so there's a wide void there
00:25:21and once he gets the ball,
00:25:22Stephan Starring knows what to do with it.
00:25:2528 yards later,
00:25:27out of bounds at the 12-yard line
00:25:29and that's where the Patriots
00:25:30have another first down.
00:25:32This drive started back at the road 21.
00:25:34He's got one.
00:25:37Mixing up the plays well.
00:25:39Collins.
00:25:41And gets a cover.
00:25:43The man on top was Anthony Young
00:25:44and Barry Krause on the bottom
00:25:46along with Brad White.
00:25:48The nose tackle.
00:25:49Chalked that one up to Barry Krause
00:25:51and the nose guard Brad White.
00:25:53Krause came in tight,
00:25:55took Hogg Hanna on,
00:25:56hit up one-on-one straight
00:25:58and basically one.
00:25:59Did not give any ground
00:26:00and Brad White
00:26:01beat the block of Guy Morris
00:26:02and chalked that one up
00:26:04to the defensive side.
00:26:06So Guy Morris is the center.
00:26:07Pete Brock healthy,
00:26:08ready to go,
00:26:09but he will only be used in an emergency.
00:26:10On the right side,
00:26:11Paul Fairchild
00:26:12as he placed the injured Ron Newton.
00:26:14Art Crunkett replaced
00:26:15the ejected Steve Moore.
00:26:17Second down from the nine.
00:26:18Flag is down.
00:26:20Eason gets it to Stanley Morgan
00:26:22who dives in
00:26:23for yet another touchdown,
00:26:25but I believe the flag
00:26:26may go against New England.
00:26:27and takes back the touchdown.
00:26:37Holding number 66,
00:26:40offense,
00:26:41still second down.
00:26:42One of the problems
00:26:43we were just talking about.
00:26:44This hurts.
00:26:45As an offensive lineman,
00:26:46you never like to get called
00:26:47for holding,
00:26:48but you're going to see
00:26:48number 66 right there
00:26:50taking Barry Krause.
00:26:52I think they ought to give him
00:26:53two points for a takedown there,
00:26:54but as an offensive lineman,
00:26:55you really hate to hear
00:26:56your name called
00:26:57for holding any time,
00:26:58but in particular,
00:27:00when it takes points
00:27:00off the board.
00:27:02He's going to hear about this
00:27:03Monday morning.
00:27:05So Raymond Berry is now
00:27:07backed up to the 19-yard line.
00:27:10His offense is.
00:27:12Patriots need the two
00:27:13for a first down.
00:27:16The Colts have six
00:27:17defensive backs.
00:27:20Second and 17.
00:27:21And Willie Broughton came.
00:27:25Did Art Plunkett induce him
00:27:27to come?
00:27:28Now I believe Art Plunkett
00:27:29is number 70 offense.
00:27:32He's a little green
00:27:33behind the ears yet.
00:27:34He's playing in a loud,
00:27:35hostile stadium.
00:27:36He hasn't played that much.
00:27:37And he's in the heat of battle.
00:27:40He hasn't got that much
00:27:40playing experience.
00:27:41And it's difficult conditions
00:27:43for a young lineman
00:27:44to come in and play against
00:27:45players like the Colts have.
00:27:47So there's changes
00:27:48on the right side
00:27:49that we alluded to
00:27:50starting to tell a tale
00:27:51as Tom Ramsey
00:27:52signals the play-in,
00:27:54signal the four.
00:27:55Raymond Berry folds his arms
00:27:57as his team is marching backwards.
00:27:59This is second down and 22.
00:28:02Raymond Berry certainly has
00:28:03that he's in the battle here.
00:28:07Three wide receivers in the lineup.
00:28:10Six defensive backs.
00:28:13Tipped and intercepted!
00:28:17And then he lost it.
00:28:19Anderson intercepted it.
00:28:22And now the fight for the ball
00:28:24between Plunkett and Young.
00:28:26But Don Anderson
00:28:27activated last week
00:28:30from an ankle injury.
00:28:31The interception.
00:28:32Scott Birkus,
00:28:33a former Patriot,
00:28:34is excited.
00:28:36I think Scott Birkus
00:28:38got the deflection here.
00:28:41Or is it 95?
00:28:43All right.
00:28:44Right off the helmet.
00:28:45Chris Scott deflection the ball
00:28:47and an alert play
00:28:48by the defender here.
00:28:49Key turnover, Len.
00:28:50This is,
00:28:51the ball came out early.
00:28:53Fortunate to get it there.
00:28:54Anthony Young ahead
00:28:55to play on the recovery.
00:28:56A key defensive stand
00:28:57by the Colt defense.
00:28:59Keep in their own territory
00:29:00and the crowd loves it.
00:29:02First down at the 18.
00:29:03First career interception
00:29:05for the youngster from Purdue.
00:29:06The rookie,
00:29:07second-round choice,
00:29:07Don Anderson,
00:29:08just off injured reserve.
00:29:09Ball deflected off a helmet.
00:29:13McMillan.
00:29:13Now they try to run.
00:29:14They go right.
00:29:15He dives out to the 21
00:29:16for a pickup of three.
00:29:18So the Patriots
00:29:19had scored a touchdown.
00:29:21Stanley Morgan
00:29:22caught it nine yards.
00:29:23It was nullified
00:29:24because of holding
00:29:26by Paul Fairchild.
00:29:28Then offside,
00:29:29Art Plunkett.
00:29:30Now Rob Dahlhauer
00:29:31sees that he can
00:29:32try to tie the score up.
00:29:33When I took this job,
00:29:34I knew what the situation was.
00:29:36You can still win
00:29:36even if all the parts
00:29:37aren't there right now.
00:29:38And he's dismantled
00:29:39some of the parts.
00:29:40Curtis Dickey being
00:29:41the latest this week.
00:29:42Signed by the Browns.
00:29:43Raymond Butler.
00:29:44Art Schleister.
00:29:46Coach Dahlhauer
00:29:47is not all that concerned
00:29:47with this year.
00:29:48It's the future
00:29:49that he's building for.
00:29:50Patriots are concerned
00:29:51with the present
00:29:52right now.
00:29:53Trying to tie the Jets
00:29:54for first place.
00:29:55Second and seven.
00:29:56Pagel completes it.
00:29:57Far side.
00:29:58To Capers.
00:29:59Covered by Ronnie Lippert.
00:30:01Short of a first down.
00:30:02Out to the 26.
00:30:05This will be third and three.
00:30:06Wayne Capers.
00:30:07Former Steeler.
00:30:08I was surprised
00:30:09when they released him.
00:30:10I always thought
00:30:11he had a lot of talent.
00:30:12He does.
00:30:13He does.
00:30:13He has a lot of speed.
00:30:14He's a legitimate
00:30:15home run threat.
00:30:16He's averaging over 16 yards
00:30:18per reception.
00:30:19He, along with the rookie,
00:30:20Ricky Nichols,
00:30:21are the two speed merchants
00:30:22in this fleet
00:30:23of Colt receivers.
00:30:24This is third down
00:30:28and a long run
00:30:29closer to two yards.
00:30:32What an important third down.
00:30:35Aren't they awful?
00:30:36Pitchback.
00:30:37McMillan.
00:30:38Nothing doing
00:30:39and the Patriots
00:30:40have held
00:30:41an important defensive series
00:30:42for New England.
00:30:44The Colts certainly
00:30:45had the momentum
00:30:46their way
00:30:47and now
00:30:47Steve Nelson
00:30:48in on the tackle
00:30:49and Ron Stark
00:30:51will come onto the field
00:30:52as a punter
00:30:53and set a little bit
00:30:54of history
00:30:55with this next punt.
00:30:56We're going to take a look
00:30:56at Ray Donaldson
00:30:57generally regarded
00:30:58as one of the better
00:30:59centers in the league.
00:30:59This time he's going to get beat.
00:31:00Nose guard.
00:31:01Dennis Owens
00:31:02comes around the block
00:31:03by Donaldson
00:31:04and makes a tackle
00:31:05in Colt territory.
00:31:07This is one of the reasons
00:31:08that Dennis Owens
00:31:09is why the Patriot defense
00:31:10is one of the best defenses
00:31:12in the entire AFC
00:31:13against the run.
00:31:14Big strong
00:31:15front seven.
00:31:16So this will be
00:31:17a record setting punt
00:31:18no matter how far it goes.
00:31:20He will qualify him
00:31:21for the all time listings
00:31:22and he lists
00:31:23number one all time
00:31:25Ron Stark.
00:31:26His 300th career punt
00:31:28is deep but low
00:31:31and grabbed by Jim Bowman
00:31:34the up man
00:31:35and driven backwards
00:31:36inside the 30.
00:31:40So
00:31:40he's got the record
00:31:42I'm sure he's not too
00:31:43thrilled with the punt
00:31:44that set the record
00:31:44but he's in the books
00:31:46Ron Stark
00:31:47number one punter
00:31:48NFL history.
00:31:50Some credit Stark
00:31:51for the record
00:31:52but give some credit
00:31:53to the centers
00:31:54who have snapped the ball
00:31:55300 times
00:31:56and taken a lot of punishment.
00:31:57You did that
00:31:57when you were with the Dolphins.
00:31:58That's right
00:31:59and talk about
00:32:00thankless jobs
00:32:00man there is no more
00:32:01anonymous and thankless jobs
00:32:03than that of the NFL snapper.
00:32:05The only time
00:32:05the public even know
00:32:06he's there
00:32:07is when the ball sails
00:32:08either low and high
00:32:09and then he's a villain.
00:32:11So this game
00:32:11has settled down
00:32:12a little bit
00:32:13a scoreless third quarter
00:32:14after all those points
00:32:15in the first half
00:32:16and now with 3.52
00:32:17remaining in the third
00:32:18the Patriots will start
00:32:19first down at their 29.
00:32:22Eason comes out throwing
00:32:24completing
00:32:24to Stephan Starring
00:32:25out at the 35
00:32:27for a pickup of six.
00:32:34Stephan Starring
00:32:35who lined up
00:32:36at quarterback
00:32:36for one snap today
00:32:38ran a little wishbone play
00:32:39did it effectively
00:32:41now he's back
00:32:42to playing wide receiver
00:32:43do you suppose
00:32:47he has anything
00:32:47in his contract
00:32:48about him playing quarterback
00:32:49then?
00:32:50these athletes today
00:32:51have things in their contract
00:32:52about everything
00:32:53every little move
00:32:54at least the ones
00:32:57in a better bargaining position
00:32:58second and four
00:33:00at the 35
00:33:01another pass
00:33:01and another completion
00:33:04Tony Collins
00:33:05but just shy
00:33:06of the first half
00:33:07so let's see
00:33:08what's going on
00:33:09elsewhere around
00:33:09the National Football League
00:33:10defensive game
00:33:12in Pittsburgh
00:33:12and that's no surprise
00:33:14I'll end
00:33:1410-9 deep
00:33:16in the game
00:33:16in Pittsburgh
00:33:16Giants have come back
00:33:18to take the lead
00:33:18the Browns had a big lead
00:33:19earlier in that one
00:33:20Cincinnati rolling it up
00:33:2242 points already
00:33:23against Houston
00:33:23still in the third
00:33:24Minnesota having a tough time
00:33:26in Philadelphia
00:33:26on the schneid
00:33:27New Orleans
00:33:29Wade Phillips
00:33:30undefeated as a coach
00:33:31Wow
00:33:31sign him up
00:33:32Green Bay
00:33:33shutting out Tampa Bay
00:33:34Tampa Bay can't stand
00:33:35the prosperity
00:33:36after their overtime win
00:33:38so third and short
00:33:40less than a yard
00:33:42at the 39
00:33:43and Robert Weathers
00:33:45gets the first down
00:33:47out across the 42
00:33:48so Robert Weathers
00:33:50who has carried
00:33:52for less than 100 yards
00:33:53in the entire season
00:33:54gets the call
00:33:56on that third down play
00:33:58you're going to see
00:33:59some fine blocking
00:34:00by Brian Holloway
00:34:00and John Hanna here
00:34:01and also Mosey Dutuku
00:34:02there getting just enough
00:34:04of Dwayne Bickett there
00:34:05to allow Robert Weathers
00:34:06to clear for the first down
00:34:08and it's awfully tough
00:34:09to stop these Patriots
00:34:11in short yardage situations
00:34:13behind Holloway
00:34:13and Hanna
00:34:14and Mosey Dutuku
00:34:16as you saw in the graphic
00:34:18first down for the Patriots
00:34:19at the 43
00:34:20and the play goes
00:34:23straight ahead
00:34:23to Tony Collins
00:34:24heats up some more yardage
00:34:26and some more time
00:34:27Willie Broughton
00:34:27another rookie from Miami
00:34:29making a tackle
00:34:30to Tony Eason
00:34:31he ran a long drive
00:34:33last time out
00:34:34it was the penalties
00:34:35that killed him
00:34:36as you just saw
00:34:37Cedric Jones
00:34:37bring him the play
00:34:38from the sideline
00:34:39yes you're beginning
00:34:41to see a pattern develop
00:34:42it's almost as if
00:34:43in the later moments
00:34:44of this game thus far
00:34:46the Patriots
00:34:47are beginning to wear down
00:34:48this Colt defense
00:34:49the offensive line
00:34:50of Patriots
00:34:50coming out
00:34:51and grabbing it
00:34:52by the throat
00:34:52and taking control
00:34:53second and six
00:34:54at the 47
00:34:55Eason to pass
00:34:56outlet to Craig James
00:34:59Odom grabs him
00:35:02and close to a first down
00:35:04Odom was injured
00:35:05in that first half
00:35:06taped up
00:35:07with a dislocated finger
00:35:08he's back
00:35:08you know he went to college
00:35:09at Texas Arlington
00:35:11the only reason
00:35:11why I mention that
00:35:12is that they just
00:35:13up and dropped football
00:35:14last week
00:35:14to save money
00:35:15at his old college
00:35:16he played that poorly there
00:35:17Texas Arlington
00:35:19doing away with football
00:35:20so that was a first down
00:35:22in the last play
00:35:23James got the yardage
00:35:24Odom could not stop him
00:35:25and it's a first down
00:35:27in Indianapolis territory
00:35:29at the 47
00:35:30so the time of possession
00:35:35clearly in the favor
00:35:36of the Patriots
00:35:37but on the scoreboard
00:35:38it's 24-17
00:35:39as we near a minute left
00:35:40third quarter
00:35:41U-turn
00:35:43by Pryor
00:35:44fake to James
00:35:46Deason throwing
00:35:47another open receiver
00:35:48is Tony Collins
00:35:49all the way down
00:35:50to the 20
00:35:51and Eason is picking apart
00:35:53this Colts defense
00:35:54his receivers
00:35:55are getting open
00:35:56that one out of the backfield
00:35:57Tony Collins
00:35:58I believe the New England fans
00:36:01Len can breathe
00:36:02a little easier
00:36:03as the question of the day
00:36:04seems to be answered
00:36:05in a rather positive note
00:36:07Tony Eason
00:36:07today displaying
00:36:09much of the form
00:36:10that he displayed
00:36:10in 1984
00:36:11throwing long
00:36:12throwing deep
00:36:13running the ball
00:36:14aggressively
00:36:14when it's called for
00:36:15mixing his plays up well
00:36:17and it appears
00:36:18as though he's returned
00:36:19to his 1984 form
00:36:20first down at the 21
00:36:23after a 27 yard
00:36:25pickup to Collins
00:36:26Collins runs it
00:36:29nothing
00:36:29Dwayne Bickett
00:36:31wrapped him up
00:36:31for a loss
00:36:32and that will likely be
00:36:38the end of the third quarter
00:36:40as the clock will run down
00:36:42nothing has gone to form today
00:36:44Dwayne Bickett
00:36:45the good stop there
00:36:47but after all of that
00:36:48scoring in the first half
00:36:49no scoring
00:36:50in the third quarter
00:36:51so
00:36:52that's the end of
00:36:53three quarters of play
00:36:54from Indianapolis
00:36:5524-17 Patriots
00:36:57over the Colts
00:36:58right now
00:36:59this station break
00:37:00Len Berman
00:37:01along with Bob Kuchenberg
00:37:02at halftime
00:37:04it was 24-17 Patriots
00:37:06that's where it is
00:37:06after three quarters
00:37:07as we begin
00:37:08quarter number four
00:37:09with a second
00:37:10and 11
00:37:11from the 22
00:37:12New England
00:37:13Dawson
00:37:17pitched back
00:37:18to Craig James
00:37:19and he's chipped up
00:37:20again by Bickett
00:37:21the rookie
00:37:22and he gets
00:37:23congratulations
00:37:24a simple toss
00:37:26to the weak side
00:37:27and the blocking back
00:37:28is supposed to
00:37:28take the linebacker
00:37:29but didn't get
00:37:30Tony Collins
00:37:31did not get it done
00:37:32Dwayne Bickett
00:37:33again
00:37:34having an outstanding
00:37:35rookie season
00:37:37their number one
00:37:38draft choice
00:37:38and right now
00:37:39it's looking like
00:37:40a very good move
00:37:41you talked about
00:37:42perhaps the Colts
00:37:43defense getting
00:37:44worn down
00:37:44but in both cases
00:37:45on drives
00:37:46during the second half
00:37:47they seem to stiffen
00:37:48that's right
00:37:49they've given up
00:37:49a lot of yardage
00:37:50between the 30s
00:37:51and they've given up
00:37:52a lot of time
00:37:53but they've rose
00:37:54to the occasion
00:37:55down deep
00:37:55in their own territory
00:37:56total yardage
00:37:57320-173
00:37:58Patriots also have
00:37:59time of possession
00:38:00but here
00:38:00third and 14
00:38:03from the 25
00:38:04Easton going for
00:38:04all of it
00:38:05flag is down
00:38:06Morgan grabbed it
00:38:07for a touchdown
00:38:08and hits the wall
00:38:09what a throw-in catch
00:38:12but a flag is down
00:38:13the flag was down
00:38:14but I believe it was
00:38:15because Tate Randall
00:38:16of safety was
00:38:17safety blitzing
00:38:18and he blitzed
00:38:18a little bit early
00:38:19so they're going to
00:38:19decline it
00:38:20number 75 defense
00:38:22lined up in the
00:38:23neutral zone
00:38:23penalty is declined
00:38:25touchdown
00:38:26he held on
00:38:29and smacked the wall
00:38:30a 25-yard touchdown
00:38:31Stanley Morgan
00:38:32second of the day
00:38:33look at this one
00:38:34what a throw
00:38:35and catch
00:38:36let's see if he gets
00:38:36two feet down here
00:38:37there's the one
00:38:38there's one
00:38:40one
00:38:40and the crowds
00:38:44saw that replay
00:38:47on the scoreboard
00:38:48that's why they are
00:38:49booing
00:38:49they have a right
00:38:51to boo
00:38:52I believe
00:38:52Lynn
00:38:52we will take
00:38:53another look
00:38:54at that shortly
00:38:55from the first blush
00:38:56it did not look like
00:38:58he had two feet down
00:38:59he has a bare foot
00:39:02threw the ball
00:39:03for the extra point
00:39:04whether or not
00:39:06he had two feet down
00:39:07will not matter
00:39:08because on the scoreboard
00:39:09as the crowd
00:39:10boos
00:39:10the Patriots
00:39:12leave the Colts
00:39:1231-17
00:39:14as Tony Franklin
00:39:16tees it up
00:39:17you must feel
00:39:18for the Colts
00:39:18and their fans
00:39:19they cannot buy a break
00:39:20as you will see
00:39:21from the replay
00:39:22that should not
00:39:24have been a touchdown
00:39:24it is clear cut
00:39:25Tony Franklin
00:39:30kicks it away
00:39:30now with a
00:39:3114 point lead
00:39:32Bentley
00:39:33at the goal line
00:39:35Bentley
00:39:37stopped before
00:39:38he can get to
00:39:38this point
00:39:39now you watch
00:39:40the replay
00:39:40this is not a commercial
00:39:41this is live television
00:39:43you play the rest
00:39:44in the NFL
00:39:45you must have
00:39:46two feet in bounds
00:39:47you're going to see
00:39:47the left foot
00:39:48is off the ground
00:39:49when the ball hits
00:39:49right
00:39:50there
00:39:51the foot is up
00:39:52the left foot
00:39:53coming down
00:39:54one and one only
00:39:56now the fans
00:39:57in New York
00:39:57and the fans
00:39:58in Miami
00:39:58have got to be
00:39:59very upset
00:39:59about that call
00:40:00however
00:40:01if you're in
00:40:01New England
00:40:02you kind of like it
00:40:04they'll take it
00:40:05any way you can get
00:40:05the Patriots
00:40:06will tell you
00:40:07they have had
00:40:07some rough breaks
00:40:08in their career
00:40:09over the years
00:40:10just tell them
00:40:11about a little
00:40:11roughing the pass
00:40:12of Paul in Oakland
00:40:13in 1976
00:40:14against Sugar Bear
00:40:15Hamilton
00:40:15who's here today
00:40:16they've had their
00:40:17share of bad breaks
00:40:18so they're happy
00:40:18to get one here
00:40:19first down
00:40:20from the 19
00:40:21Wansley
00:40:23wide open
00:40:23Wansley
00:40:25busts it out
00:40:25to the 32
00:40:26Roland James
00:40:29finally caught up
00:40:30with the runaway
00:40:31train
00:40:31George Wansley
00:40:32who has a terrific
00:40:34five yard average
00:40:35per carries
00:40:36rush for nearly
00:40:37600 yards
00:40:37this year
00:40:385.2 yard
00:40:39per carry average
00:40:40Lynn
00:40:40the leading rusher
00:40:41per carry
00:40:42in the league
00:40:42wide open
00:40:43you and I could have
00:40:44run through this hole
00:40:45well not me
00:40:46you
00:40:46Roland James
00:40:47making a fine
00:40:48open field tackle
00:40:49otherwise
00:40:49Wansley has
00:40:50another 20 yards
00:40:5113 yard pick up
00:40:52first down
00:40:53for the pulse
00:40:54of the 32
00:40:54now facing
00:40:56a 14 point deficit
00:40:58but lots of time
00:40:5913-24 remaining
00:41:00Pagel
00:41:04completes it
00:41:05to Buzza
00:41:06so Pagel
00:41:08happy to have
00:41:09Matt Buzza back
00:41:10injured his knee
00:41:11after having a fine
00:41:12game against the Packers
00:41:14when he caught
00:41:14six passes
00:41:15for 109 yards
00:41:16and now Buzza
00:41:18today making the
00:41:18reception
00:41:19and Ronnie Lippett
00:41:19has yet to get up
00:41:21for the Patriots
00:41:22he's
00:41:22we haven't heard much
00:41:24from Ronnie Lippett
00:41:24today
00:41:25usually
00:41:25with the
00:41:26presence of
00:41:28Raymond Claiborne
00:41:28the all pro
00:41:29or perimeter
00:41:30all pro
00:41:31on the right side
00:41:32of the Patriot
00:41:33defense
00:41:33a lot of teams
00:41:34go the other way
00:41:35they like to work
00:41:35on Ronnie Lippett
00:41:36we haven't called
00:41:37his name much
00:41:39today
00:41:39he entered today
00:41:39with 60 tackles
00:41:41which is a
00:41:41big amount
00:41:42for a cornerback
00:41:44but he's got
00:41:44something wrong
00:41:45with his leg
00:41:45so it is a first
00:41:47down
00:41:48for the Colts
00:41:49at their 42
00:41:51and while they
00:41:53take a look
00:41:54at Ronnie Lippett
00:41:54we'll take a look
00:41:56at this
00:41:56we'll be right back
00:41:57back in Indianapolis
00:42:001255 remaining
00:42:02the Colts
00:42:03first down
00:42:04at their 43
00:42:04Patriots lead
00:42:05at 31-17
00:42:06a controversial
00:42:07touchdown
00:42:08giving them
00:42:09the big lead
00:42:10Papers in motion
00:42:11Wansley again
00:42:13and he turns
00:42:15the corner
00:42:16against the defense
00:42:17and out of bounds
00:42:18you know
00:42:18Patriots last week
00:42:20gave up 16 points
00:42:21it was the most
00:42:22they had given up
00:42:22in 7 weeks
00:42:23now the Colts
00:42:24have scored 17
00:42:25against them
00:42:25as they're moving
00:42:27the ball nicely
00:42:27Wansley
00:42:28a good pickup
00:42:28that's right
00:42:30that was a quick pitch
00:42:31to Wansley
00:42:32who's getting good
00:42:33yardage today
00:42:33and the key block
00:42:34was by the left guard
00:42:35Ben Utte
00:42:36who got outside
00:42:37and got Larry McGrew
00:42:38on the ground
00:42:39doesn't get any easier
00:42:41next week
00:42:42at Chicago
00:42:43will they be 13-0
00:42:44if they get by
00:42:45Bob Kuchenberg's
00:42:46Dolphins
00:42:47the game tomorrow
00:42:48here
00:42:49second and three
00:42:50at midfield
00:42:51right on that
00:42:51big Colts
00:42:52helmet
00:42:52Kate Grisham's
00:42:59in motion again
00:43:00play action
00:43:01fake to McMillan
00:43:02now the pass out
00:43:03to McMillan
00:43:04first down
00:43:05and out
00:43:06and a flag
00:43:08for a late hit
00:43:09at the 44
00:43:10of New England
00:43:11Don Blackman
00:43:16the one
00:43:16on the far side
00:43:17and the personal foul
00:43:25they'll tack it on
00:43:27against the Patriots
00:43:29personal foul
00:43:30the necessary roughness
00:43:32number 55 defense
00:43:34enforced from the end
00:43:36of the play
00:43:36first down
00:43:37so let's see
00:43:38if we can pick up
00:43:39number 55
00:43:40there's the high
00:43:41hard hit
00:43:41from Blackman
00:43:44yeah that's a good
00:43:47call in
00:43:47that isn't necessary
00:43:49you see
00:43:4915 years ago
00:43:51you didn't see that
00:43:51in the NFL
00:43:52you see a lot of it
00:43:53nowadays
00:43:53the players are so
00:43:54big and strong
00:43:55there's enough
00:43:56brutality and hard
00:43:58hitting going on
00:43:59if you just put your
00:43:59head and your shoulder
00:44:00in there
00:44:00you don't need the
00:44:01forearms to the face
00:44:02when that person's
00:44:03going out of bounds
00:44:04so first down
00:44:05for the Colts
00:44:05all the way down
00:44:06to the New England
00:44:0729 now
00:44:07Wonsley goes in
00:44:12motion
00:44:13swing it out
00:44:15to McMillan
00:44:16but Blackman
00:44:17was there as well
00:44:18and they make
00:44:19the stop
00:44:20for a loss
00:44:21so while the Colts
00:44:23regroup
00:44:23we will group it
00:44:25to Ahmad Rashad
00:44:26for an update
00:44:26NFL 85
00:44:27so both teams
00:44:29Pittsburgh and Cleveland
00:44:30are behind
00:44:31that's what's happening
00:44:32at AFC Central
00:44:34the two first place
00:44:34teams
00:44:35will be under 500
00:44:37if they
00:44:37both lose
00:44:38they'll both stay
00:44:39in first place
00:44:40top
00:44:40second
00:44:42and 14th
00:44:43the 33
00:44:44at that last loss
00:44:45drop play
00:44:45McMillan
00:44:46gets back
00:44:48maybe to the 30
00:44:49which would set up
00:44:51third and 11
00:44:52for the Colts
00:44:52Lester Williams
00:44:53shakes hands
00:44:54with Andre Tippett
00:44:55we haven't called
00:44:55Tippett's name
00:44:56that much this afternoon
00:44:57as you take a look
00:44:58at Lester Williams
00:44:59and on the tackle
00:44:59as well
00:45:00you're right
00:45:01we have not called
00:45:02Tippett's name
00:45:03that much
00:45:03he has 13 and a half
00:45:04sacks
00:45:05as most people know
00:45:06which is an incredible
00:45:07amount of sacks
00:45:08for a linebacker
00:45:09but in reality
00:45:10he's not really
00:45:10a linebacker
00:45:11he's rushing
00:45:11from a defensive end
00:45:12spot most of the time
00:45:13and the reason
00:45:14we haven't called
00:45:14his name much today
00:45:15is because the Colts
00:45:16are turning out
00:45:16one of their big
00:45:17offensive linemen
00:45:18to block it
00:45:19Colts have done poorly
00:45:21today on third down
00:45:22just two of nine
00:45:23it looks like
00:45:24an audible being called
00:45:24by Mike Pagel
00:45:25from the shotgun
00:45:29and he completes it
00:45:31to Booza
00:45:32who breaks away
00:45:33from Marion
00:45:33for a first down
00:45:35you don't see
00:45:42Fred Marion
00:45:43miss that many tackles
00:45:44but a big
00:45:45third down conversion
00:45:46from Pagel to Booza
00:45:48and the crowd
00:45:49is yelling
00:45:49Booza
00:45:50they like Booza
00:45:52here in Indianapolis
00:45:53and this battery
00:45:54of Pagel to Booza
00:45:55has been effective
00:45:56in the past
00:45:57and they're certainly
00:45:57being effective
00:45:57here again today
00:45:58excellent Moxie
00:46:00and wherewithal
00:46:01here to spin
00:46:02and get rid of
00:46:02the tackle
00:46:03and spin to the inside
00:46:04for enough yards
00:46:05for the first down
00:46:06Booza an excellent
00:46:07possession receiver
00:46:08how about this drive
00:46:10for the Colts
00:46:10all the way down
00:46:11to the New England
00:46:1116
00:46:12trying to make up
00:46:14for the bad call
00:46:15there's a flag down
00:46:16so is Capers
00:46:17in the end zone
00:46:18as it was overthrown
00:46:19and Lippitt
00:46:19and Claiborne covering
00:46:22both quarterbacks
00:46:23were over
00:46:23on the near side
00:46:24looking at Capers
00:46:25but a flag was thrown
00:46:26and then Capers
00:46:27went down
00:46:27and it's offside
00:46:29Patriots
00:46:30for the flags
00:46:33going against
00:46:34New England
00:46:34after they got
00:46:35the call
00:46:36their way
00:46:36on the touchdown pass
00:46:37offside
00:46:43number 99
00:46:44defense
00:46:45lined up
00:46:46in the neutral zone
00:46:47and that's
00:46:49Ben Thomas
00:46:49playing for
00:46:50Kenneth Sims
00:46:51who broke
00:46:52his left leg
00:46:53in the first half
00:46:54and has probably
00:46:55lost for the season
00:46:56so Thomas
00:46:56the second round
00:46:58choice out of
00:46:58Auburn
00:46:59the rookie
00:46:59lined up
00:47:00in the neutral zone
00:47:01offside
00:47:01so this will be
00:47:02first and five
00:47:03at the 11
00:47:04McMillan
00:47:17and McMillan
00:47:19fights for a
00:47:20first down
00:47:20Pagel nearly
00:47:21dropped the
00:47:22handoff
00:47:23nearly dropped
00:47:23the snap
00:47:24from center
00:47:24rather
00:47:25and then turned
00:47:25around
00:47:26and was
00:47:26fortunate enough
00:47:27to be able
00:47:28to regather
00:47:28himself
00:47:29and get it
00:47:29to McMillan
00:47:29but when you're
00:47:30hot
00:47:31you're hot
00:47:31and you've
00:47:32got to take
00:47:32your hats
00:47:33off
00:47:33to this
00:47:34Colt club
00:47:34they have
00:47:35a lot of
00:47:35reasons to
00:47:36quit
00:47:36they're not
00:47:36in contention
00:47:37many people
00:47:38thought the Patriots
00:47:39would come in
00:47:39here and roll
00:47:40over them
00:47:40but it's a credit
00:47:41and tribute to
00:47:42Rod Dahauer
00:47:43and his staff
00:47:44and the professionalism
00:47:45and pride
00:47:45of these
00:47:45Indianapolis Colts
00:47:47the measurement
00:47:48another
00:47:50Colt first down
00:47:51at the Patriots
00:47:52six
00:47:52taking a look
00:47:56it's just a quick
00:47:56opener here
00:47:57can't really see
00:47:58the ball being
00:47:59bobbled
00:47:59but just a quick
00:48:00opener
00:48:01on first and five
00:48:02and McMillan
00:48:04knows where
00:48:05pay dirt is
00:48:05and by gosh
00:48:06he wants to
00:48:06get there
00:48:07so first and
00:48:09goal at the
00:48:10six
00:48:10this will be
00:48:10the ninth play
00:48:11of a crisp
00:48:12Colt drive
00:48:13aided by a couple
00:48:15of penalties
00:48:15that began back
00:48:17at their 19
00:48:17the I formation
00:48:20McMillan and
00:48:21Wansley
00:48:21McMillan the first
00:48:29man
00:48:29touchdown
00:48:30his third
00:48:31three touchdowns
00:48:48he only had
00:48:49three coming in
00:48:50and gets three
00:48:51more today
00:48:51not to be denied
00:48:53Randy McMillan
00:48:55says here I come
00:48:55try and stop me
00:48:57if you can
00:48:57tremendous fullback
00:49:01Glenn this man
00:49:01was highly sought
00:49:03after by Don
00:49:03Shul in Miami
00:49:04a few years back
00:49:05good move too
00:49:05celebrating the
00:49:07first three
00:49:07touchdown day
00:49:08of his career
00:49:09tell me they
00:49:10don't have
00:49:11professionals
00:49:11pride here
00:49:12in Indianapolis
00:49:139.06
00:49:14still remains
00:49:15Stark will
00:49:16hold for
00:49:17a leg raise
00:49:18he does it
00:49:21and closes it
00:49:22to seven
00:49:23so the difference
00:49:24right now
00:49:24in the game
00:49:25the controversial
00:49:26touchdown
00:49:27by Stanley Morgan
00:49:28as Randy
00:49:29McMillan
00:49:30ponders on the
00:49:31bench
00:49:31the first time
00:49:32he's rushed
00:49:33three times
00:49:33for TDs
00:49:34in his career
00:49:34same game
00:49:35Allegra
00:49:36kicks it away
00:49:37to Stephan
00:49:38Starring
00:49:38in his end zone
00:49:39he'll bring it
00:49:40out again
00:49:40Starring
00:49:43to the near side
00:49:44Starring
00:49:46dragged down
00:49:47at the 26
00:49:48and then takes
00:49:48a hit in his
00:49:49helmet over the
00:49:49top and looks
00:49:50around saying
00:49:51where's the flag
00:49:51there is none
00:49:5228 yard return
00:49:54a Eugene Daniel
00:49:55tackle
00:49:56on special teams
00:49:57and our
00:50:00hearts really go
00:50:01out to
00:50:02Kenneth Sims
00:50:03on crutches
00:50:03having a terrific
00:50:05year
00:50:05and being
00:50:06consoled a bit
00:50:07by Ron Wooten
00:50:08who himself
00:50:09is out of action
00:50:10with an injury
00:50:10but Sims
00:50:11knocked out
00:50:13with a fractured
00:50:14leg
00:50:14in the first half
00:50:16trying to stop
00:50:16McMillan
00:50:17and that
00:50:18then is a
00:50:19major setback
00:50:19to the Patriots
00:50:20in their playoff
00:50:21aspirations
00:50:21and now the
00:50:24Patriots
00:50:24forced
00:50:24to having
00:50:25to keep
00:50:25the ball
00:50:26first down
00:50:26at their 25
00:50:27trying to nurse
00:50:28a 7 point lead
00:50:29Tony Collins
00:50:30the swing pass
00:50:31Collins
00:50:32breaks all the
00:50:32way up
00:50:33to the 35
00:50:34pick up
00:50:35a perhaps
00:50:369
00:50:36before Cliff
00:50:38Odom
00:50:38and Barry
00:50:38Krause
00:50:39could team up
00:50:40to stop
00:50:40the 5th year
00:50:41player out of
00:50:41East Carolina
00:50:42heads up play
00:50:44that time
00:50:44taking a look
00:50:45at Randy McMillan
00:50:46what a day he's had
00:50:47but a heads up play
00:50:48that time
00:50:49three touchdowns
00:50:50and he knocked
00:50:50Kenneth Sims out
00:50:51done it all
00:50:52you know
00:50:52really
00:50:53yeah he has
00:50:54a heads up play
00:50:55that time
00:50:55by Tony Eason
00:50:56he read the coverage
00:50:57he took what it gave him
00:50:59he slipped the ball out
00:51:00to Tony Collins
00:51:01in the flank
00:51:01and then Tony
00:51:02did the rest of it
00:51:03he was mismatched
00:51:04against Barry Krause
00:51:05and took Barry
00:51:06to school
00:51:07and turned a
00:51:082 yard gain
00:51:09into a 10 yard gain
00:51:10this will be
00:51:112nd in millimeters
00:51:12which is
00:51:13virtually a 3 down
00:51:14see what the Patriots
00:51:17choose to do with it
00:51:17I always like to see
00:51:18them go for the downs
00:51:19on 2nd and short
00:51:22rather than giving it
00:51:22to their short yardage man
00:51:24it's more exciting
00:51:24anyway
00:51:25well it is kind of
00:51:27a throwaway
00:51:28you have
00:51:28you have 3rd down
00:51:29of course
00:51:30in case you
00:51:31go for all the marbles
00:51:32here and don't get it
00:51:33in that respect
00:51:34it's a throwaway
00:51:34but it's become
00:51:35pretty common knowledge
00:51:36nowadays
00:51:37that this is a
00:51:37throwaway type zone
00:51:38so he has
00:51:42Stephan Starring
00:51:43the near side
00:51:44Stanley Morgan
00:51:45the far side
00:51:45let's see if he
00:51:46calls the fly pattern
00:51:47he does not
00:51:50Tony Collins
00:51:51gets the 1st down
00:51:53and more
00:51:53inside the 40
00:51:54and run out of bounds
00:51:55on the far side
00:51:56and Peter Luongo
00:51:58the equipment man
00:51:59chases him out of bounds
00:52:00let's go to
00:52:01Ahmad Rashad
00:52:02at NFL 85
00:52:03and let's get an update
00:52:04and see what's going on
00:52:05elsewhere
00:52:06turn over
00:52:07Mike Merriweather
00:52:07who had been having
00:52:08a quiet year
00:52:09big turn over there
00:52:11first down for the Patriots
00:52:12at their 44
00:52:13Eason to Collins
00:52:16he has a step
00:52:17Tony Collins
00:52:18looking for the end zone
00:52:19and Eugene Daniel
00:52:21bangs him out
00:52:22inside the 15
00:52:23another long
00:52:24pick up
00:52:25for Tony Eason
00:52:26what a drive
00:52:27by Tony Eason
00:52:28the Patriots
00:52:29here
00:52:29Len this is something
00:52:303 consecutive plays
00:52:31now Tony Eason
00:52:32has been mismatched
00:52:33on number 55
00:52:35Barry Kraus
00:52:36here the linebacker
00:52:37now this is a mismatch
00:52:38he's a big strong guy
00:52:39having to cover
00:52:39a little fast scat back
00:52:41like Tony Collins
00:52:42and that's asking a lot
00:52:43for a linebacker
00:52:44to cover him up
00:52:44and down the field
00:52:44there's just no way
00:52:46now this is 3 consecutive
00:52:47plays
00:52:48that Tony Collins
00:52:49has shown his
00:52:50former all pro skill
00:52:523 consecutive plays
00:52:53chalk up this drive
00:52:54almost a tired drive
00:52:55for Tony Collins
00:52:5644 yard pick up
00:52:58now at the 12
00:52:593
00:53:00the team's in
00:53:021-1
00:53:04push down
00:53:05Greg James
00:53:06picks his spot
00:53:08drives inside the 5
00:53:10and a flag goes down
00:53:11late in the play
00:53:12Brad White
00:53:13in on the stop
00:53:15see what the call is
00:53:17a holding
00:53:19against the Patriots
00:53:21they have been
00:53:21self-destructing
00:53:22offensively
00:53:23remember their only
00:53:24score in the second half
00:53:25really was not a score
00:53:26a touchdown
00:53:27that should not have
00:53:28counted
00:53:28holding
00:53:30number 73
00:53:32offense
00:53:33still first down
00:53:35John Hanna
00:53:36see the look on his face
00:53:40a little bit
00:53:41see a little bit of blood
00:53:43on his jersey as well
00:53:44yeah
00:53:44puts in a day's work
00:53:46doesn't he
00:53:46I don't imagine
00:53:47that's John's blood
00:53:48it's more than likely
00:53:49someone else's
00:53:50big John Hanna
00:53:51even the great ones
00:53:51can call every once in a minute
00:53:53hard to imagine
00:53:54that guy packing up
00:53:54a suitcase
00:53:55and going to work
00:53:56on the train
00:53:56as a stockbroker
00:53:57and lost it
00:53:58if he told me to buy
00:54:00I'd buy
00:54:00incongruous
00:54:01it seems
00:54:02so this play
00:54:03is backed up
00:54:04to the 19
00:54:04Patriots need
00:54:06inside the 3
00:54:07for a first down
00:54:08they'll call it first
00:54:10and almost 17
00:54:11Greg James
00:54:21and that play
00:54:23was stopped down
00:54:24by Chris Scott
00:54:25local college hero
00:54:27out of Purdue
00:54:28they said this
00:54:30defensive front 3
00:54:32would be hurting
00:54:32with Leo Wisniewski
00:54:33a career threatening injury
00:54:35in the preseason
00:54:36but
00:54:37they've done ok
00:54:38they said the front 3
00:54:39was the weak portion
00:54:40of the Colts defense
00:54:41but they turned in
00:54:42some good plays
00:54:42Chris Scott on that one
00:54:43that's right
00:54:45and Chris Scott's been
00:54:46playing a good solid game
00:54:47today as have
00:54:48their entire front 7
00:54:49they don't have
00:54:50the all pro
00:54:50the Mark Gastineau
00:54:52the big name player
00:54:54in there
00:54:54but they play very well
00:54:55as a unit
00:54:55spearheaded of course
00:54:56but a superior linebacking
00:54:58for
00:54:58so now
00:55:00second down
00:55:0115
00:55:02at the 17
00:55:03pitch back to
00:55:07Greg James
00:55:08James
00:55:08scampers
00:55:09inside the 10
00:55:10down to the 8
00:55:11but remember
00:55:12they need the 2
00:55:13for a first down
00:55:14so this will set up
00:55:15about 3rd and 6
00:55:16Anthony Young
00:55:17a rookie from Temple
00:55:18teaming up with
00:55:19Cliff Odom
00:55:20to make the stop
00:55:22of Craig James
00:55:23Eason today
00:55:23passing by the way
00:55:24Bob
00:55:2420 of 28
00:55:25for 294 yards
00:55:29and Craig James
00:55:29on the day
00:55:30at 100 yards
00:55:31against the Jets
00:55:31108 to be exact
00:55:32today 12 carries
00:55:34for 44
00:55:34what will Raymond
00:55:36Burry call here
00:55:37well 3rd and 5
00:55:39at this point
00:55:403 points are
00:55:41nearly as good
00:55:42as 7
00:55:42we've got
00:55:43we're going
00:55:436 minutes left
00:55:44and if you're more
00:55:45than a touchdown up
00:55:46you have a good
00:55:46position
00:55:47so I wouldn't
00:55:47imagine the inning
00:55:48too risky
00:55:49on the shotgun
00:55:50the handoff
00:55:53inside
00:55:54and Craig James
00:55:55barrels
00:55:56not for a touchdown
00:55:57but he does
00:55:59get a first down
00:56:00you've got to
00:56:01like that call
00:56:02everybody in the
00:56:03house expecting
00:56:04a pass
00:56:04you had your
00:56:053 wide receivers
00:56:05split out wide
00:56:06and give the ball
00:56:07to your halfback
00:56:08following
00:56:09whoa that is
00:56:10an excellent trap
00:56:11that brings out
00:56:12a lot of excitement
00:56:13in me
00:56:13that is how you
00:56:14drop a trap play
00:56:15Paul Fairchild
00:56:16the right guard
00:56:17pulled from the spot
00:56:17looped around the center
00:56:19and Chris Scott
00:56:20was coming in
00:56:21in a pinching charge
00:56:22and never saw him
00:56:23Paul Fairchild
00:56:25will enjoy that replay
00:56:27when they watch
00:56:27the films tomorrow
00:56:28537 remain
00:56:31in the 4th quarter
00:56:32the Patriots lead
00:56:33by 7
00:56:33but a first and goal
00:56:35at the Colts 1
00:56:36it's back
00:56:42to Tupu
00:56:43he's got it
00:56:44and Eason
00:56:47will run over
00:56:48to congratulate
00:56:49Mosey Tupu
00:56:50on his first
00:56:51touchdown of the season
00:56:52and credit
00:56:53Robert Weathers
00:56:54with a fine block
00:56:55he got into
00:56:56the defender
00:56:56and sustained
00:56:57his block
00:56:58just long enough
00:56:58to enable
00:56:59Mosey Tupu
00:57:00to get in the end zone
00:57:01here
00:57:01also John Hanna
00:57:02pulling out here
00:57:03there you see
00:57:03Robert Weathers
00:57:04number 24
00:57:04hit once
00:57:05bounces off
00:57:06keeps at it
00:57:06keeps the legs driving
00:57:07bothering the defender
00:57:09just enough
00:57:10to allow Mosey
00:57:11to get into pay dirt
00:57:11these Patriots
00:57:14have so many weapons
00:57:16they have such
00:57:16superior skill positions
00:57:18their receivers
00:57:19are elite
00:57:20and Collins
00:57:21and James
00:57:21are wonderful
00:57:22tandem of running backs
00:57:23and if they can get
00:57:24some good consistent
00:57:25quarterbacking
00:57:26they're going to be
00:57:27hard to beat
00:57:27the quarterbacking
00:57:28has been consistent today
00:57:29so has Tony Franklin
00:57:31and now
00:57:32with 521
00:57:33left in the 4th quarter
00:57:35the Patriots
00:57:36have stretched open
00:57:37their lead once again
00:57:38to our high school team
00:57:40Len it's not been
00:57:41a good weekend
00:57:41for me
00:57:41I hope our rookie's
00:57:42going down
00:57:43and the fighting average
00:57:43will be 58-7
00:57:45Albert Bentley
00:57:46fights
00:57:47Bentley
00:57:48again
00:57:49I've said it before
00:57:50you can see why
00:57:51he leaves the conference
00:57:52in kickoff returns
00:57:52fights all the way out
00:57:53to the 28
00:57:54Greg Hoffman
00:57:55on the stop
00:57:56that's right
00:57:56your high school team
00:57:58lost
00:57:58Notre Dame
00:57:59lost big
00:58:00your alma mater
00:58:00and let's take a look
00:58:01at Bentley
00:58:01he just does not
00:58:05want to go down
00:58:05I'll tell you
00:58:07I am very impressed
00:58:07with Albert Bentley
00:58:08the Colts are very high
00:58:09on him up here
00:58:10but I remember him
00:58:11standing in that
00:58:13Nebraska University
00:58:14Miami game
00:58:14for the National
00:58:15Championship
00:58:15a few years back
00:58:16and Nebraska
00:58:17was blitzing
00:58:18trying to get back
00:58:18in the ball game
00:58:19they were blitzing
00:58:19everybody
00:58:20sending everything
00:58:20but the kitchen sink
00:58:21Albert Bentley
00:58:22was standing in there
00:58:23and just taking on
00:58:23those blitzes
00:58:24and knocking the
00:58:25heck out of them
00:58:26first down at the 29
00:58:275-10 remaining
00:58:28the Colts trail
00:58:30by 14
00:58:31seven of those
00:58:32in controversial fashion
00:58:34Pagel
00:58:37again
00:58:38Boyer is open
00:58:39all the way out
00:58:40to the 49
00:58:41and they are not
00:58:43booing
00:58:43Mike Pagel
00:58:44today in Indianapolis
00:58:45he's having a good day
00:58:47well let's take a break
00:58:50here for a moment
00:58:51let's check with
00:58:52Ahmad Rashad
00:58:52NFL 85
00:58:53and make domes
00:58:54here in Indianapolis
00:58:55first down at the 49
00:58:57after the 20 yard
00:58:58pickup
00:58:58Pagel
00:58:59completing to Wansley
00:59:00has a lot of running room
00:59:01another first down
00:59:02and Wansley
00:59:03all the way down
00:59:04to the 30
00:59:05Bob what is going on
00:59:10with the New England
00:59:11defense
00:59:11well it's not so much
00:59:13the New England defense
00:59:14Len
00:59:14I think it's the
00:59:15never say die Colts
00:59:16they refuse to quit
00:59:17don't they know
00:59:17they're down 14 points
00:59:18with only 4 minutes left
00:59:19they just keep coming back
00:59:21they keep getting up
00:59:21off the carpet
00:59:22kind of like Gene Fulmer
00:59:24did a few years ago
00:59:24you keep hitting them
00:59:25and Joe Frazier
00:59:26they just keep getting up
00:59:27and who knows
00:59:28if they get back
00:59:29in the end zone here
00:59:29we've got a ball game again
00:59:31let's pause briefly
00:59:32for station notification
00:59:33this is the NBC
00:59:34television network
00:59:35this is WBZ
00:59:40TV for Boston
00:59:41Colts to the 30
00:59:42they trail 38-24
00:59:444-23 remaining
00:59:46Booza in motion
00:59:47Wansley the ball carrier
00:59:48gets a hole
00:59:49and gets down
00:59:50to the 26
00:59:52pick up a 4
00:59:54there was an excellent block
00:59:56by Randy McMillan
00:59:57that time
00:59:57he came through there
00:59:58as the lead blocker
00:59:59and just cleared out
01:00:00two fellas
01:00:00and credit that play
01:00:02to the other blocking back
01:00:04a lot of times
01:00:05if you've got
01:00:05two talented ball carriers
01:00:07they don't like to do
01:00:07a great job of blocking
01:00:08they try to rest
01:00:09when they're not carrying the ball
01:00:10because they take such a punishment
01:00:12when they're carrying it
01:00:13in this case
01:00:13so Randy McMillan
01:00:14throwing a superior block
01:00:15and opening up a wide hole
01:00:17for George Wansley
01:00:18yeah but look how much time
01:00:19the Colts are taking
01:00:20to get a playoff
01:00:20the clock is not on their side
01:00:22it's now down to 345
01:00:24you can't afford to use
01:00:25the 30 second clock
01:00:27when you're trailing
01:00:27by 14 points
01:00:28second and six
01:00:2926
01:00:30and another running play
01:00:31it's as if they're going
01:00:33ground control
01:00:34and a few boos
01:00:35from the crowd
01:00:36Rod Dauhauer
01:00:40keeping it on the ground
01:00:41when you might think
01:00:42they'd go through the air
01:00:43the clock continues to run
01:00:45323 left
01:00:47Pagel looking to the side
01:00:52for a call
01:00:53a little bit of confusion
01:00:56going on now
01:00:56then they're sending in
01:00:58three different players
01:00:58they're going with their
01:00:59short yardage
01:01:00offense
01:01:01and they're wasting
01:01:02valuable time
01:01:02as you point out
01:01:03just lost a minute
01:01:05third and one
01:01:07Bentley
01:01:08first down
01:01:10but doesn't get out of bounds
01:01:12now he does
01:01:13they rule it out of bounds
01:01:14so the clock is stopped
01:01:16now 256 left
01:01:18and they are inside the 15
01:01:20and what an effort
01:01:21to get out of bounds
01:01:22remember the skins game
01:01:24coming up
01:01:24all that money on the line
01:01:25there's quite a bit of
01:01:27playoff money on the line here
01:01:29as the Patriots hope
01:01:31to tie for first place
01:01:33and should the Dolphins
01:01:35which is a big should
01:01:35but should they lose
01:01:36tomorrow night
01:01:37and the Patriots
01:01:38and Jets stay tied
01:01:39the rest of the way
01:01:40for first place
01:01:40and the Dolphins
01:01:41don't catch them
01:01:42the Patriots
01:01:43would beat the Jets
01:01:43in the head-to-head tiebreaker
01:01:45but of course
01:01:46there's a big game
01:01:46that the Patriots
01:01:47have to play in Miami
01:01:48before that happens
01:01:49Bentley
01:01:50Bentley
01:01:53hit down hard
01:01:54at the 15
01:01:54will they spend
01:01:55the timeout here
01:01:562.46 remaining
01:01:58the crowd continues
01:01:59to boo
01:02:00no timeout taken
01:02:03so the clock
01:02:04continues to run
01:02:052.36
01:02:08and counting
01:02:09they have
01:02:12three timeouts remaining
01:02:13coming up
01:02:14for the Miami Dolphins
01:02:15tough games
01:02:16with Chicago
01:02:17and New England
01:02:17and their
01:02:18final four games
01:02:19starting with tomorrow night
01:02:20yeah the Dolphins
01:02:22certainly have their work
01:02:23cut out for them
01:02:24in the remainder of the season
01:02:25but they are
01:02:25like the Patriots
01:02:26they're in control
01:02:27if they can go undefeated
01:02:28you know they're going to be
01:02:29in the playoffs
01:02:29second and six
01:02:31at the nine
01:02:32Hagel throwing
01:02:35open is
01:02:35Boozer
01:02:36touchdown
01:02:36it's amazing
01:02:52the Colts
01:02:53are making
01:02:53this Patriot defense
01:02:54look just like
01:02:55any other defense
01:02:56an average defense
01:02:57and they're not that
01:02:58little pattern
01:02:59inside here
01:03:00booze
01:03:00wide open
01:03:01somebody
01:03:03either fell down
01:03:04or didn't
01:03:04didn't do a very good
01:03:06job of covering
01:03:06little play action
01:03:08holding the linebackers
01:03:09for just a little bit
01:03:09but the cornerback
01:03:10over there
01:03:10should have been
01:03:11Raymond Claiborne
01:03:12and he is
01:03:13badly beaten
01:03:14that is Freddie Marion
01:03:15the free safety
01:03:16don't know what the
01:03:17problem was in the
01:03:18secondary
01:03:18but it's six points
01:03:19Stark will hold
01:03:21for Allegra
01:03:21he boots it through
01:03:25and good
01:03:26and so with two minutes
01:03:27and eight seconds
01:03:28remaining in the
01:03:29fourth quarter
01:03:29the Colts are again
01:03:31within seven
01:03:3238 to 31
01:03:33and I will point out
01:03:35again the difference
01:03:36those seven points
01:03:37a touchdown
01:03:37that should not have
01:03:39counted
01:03:39when Stanley Morgan
01:03:41really had
01:03:41one foot out
01:03:42that's the difference
01:03:43right now
01:03:44might we see an
01:03:45onside kick
01:03:45well we'll definitely
01:03:46see an onside kick
01:03:47but speaking of the
01:03:48Patriots defense
01:03:49they have now allowed
01:03:5031 points
01:03:51only the Raiders
01:03:53on September 29th
01:03:55scored more
01:03:56against New England
01:03:57when they scored
01:03:5835
01:03:58in a Raider victory
01:04:01of Foxborough
01:04:01so Raymond Burial
01:04:02though he's got the lead
01:04:03and just 208 remaining
01:04:04even though he may tie
01:04:05for first place
01:04:06has some serious concerns
01:04:08the defense
01:04:09the season
01:04:10perhaps ending injury
01:04:11to Kenneth Sims
01:04:12with the broken leg
01:04:13even if they
01:04:15travel home
01:04:16with a win
01:04:17it will not be
01:04:17a happy flight home
01:04:19because of some
01:04:20of the negatives today
01:04:21and if this score
01:04:23holds up
01:04:23again
01:04:24Rod Hauer
01:04:25lost it
01:04:25perhaps on a
01:04:26controversial call
01:04:27although the flip side
01:04:28if that pass
01:04:29was ruled
01:04:29no touchdown
01:04:30the Patriots
01:04:31would then
01:04:31have attempted
01:04:32a 42-yard
01:04:33field goal
01:04:34which would
01:04:35have been well
01:04:36within Tony Franklin's range
01:04:37well that's right
01:04:38as you say
01:04:39the Patriots
01:04:40if they get out of here
01:04:40with a win today
01:04:41are going to be
01:04:41in first place
01:04:42but they're battered
01:04:43by injuries
01:04:44they've lost their best
01:04:44they've lost their best
01:04:45defensive lineman
01:04:46they also have
01:04:47an offensive line
01:04:48here we go
01:04:49that's battered
01:04:49onside kick
01:04:50they all go to the left
01:04:51the ball is loose
01:04:52and it is covered
01:04:54by the Patriots
01:04:56was that Craig James
01:04:57under there
01:04:57good attempt
01:04:59the ball came loose
01:05:01and let's watch them
01:05:01unpile
01:05:02and who's got the football
01:05:04that was an excellent
01:05:05onside kick
01:05:06the ball skittered
01:05:07through the first line
01:05:08of Patriot defenders
01:05:09and I think you're right
01:05:11Craig James
01:05:11probably made the recovery
01:05:12we're going to see
01:05:12take a look at it here
01:05:13everybody in the ballpark
01:05:15knows you see the Colts
01:05:16going over to the other side
01:05:1710 men over on that side
01:05:19goes through
01:05:22John Hanna there
01:05:23yeah I believe it is
01:05:24Craig James
01:05:25making the recovery
01:05:27a key
01:05:28key play
01:05:28by the halfback
01:05:30by the fullback
01:05:31I should say
01:05:31to the Patriots
01:05:322-0-4 left
01:05:34they'll get an automatic
01:05:35timeout
01:05:36for a two minute warning
01:05:37as they start
01:05:37after this play
01:05:39as they start at the 48
01:05:40Godwine's defense
01:05:44running play
01:05:45Craig James
01:05:45stopped at midfield
01:05:47so
01:05:47the two minute warning
01:05:49so maybe the Colts
01:05:50not calling timeouts
01:05:51before
01:05:52will work to their advantage
01:05:53the crowd didn't like it
01:05:54but now in addition
01:05:55to this two minute warning
01:05:56the Colts have
01:05:57three full timeouts left
01:05:58we'll be back
01:05:59the Patriots
01:06:00nursing a lead
01:06:01Len but it's also
01:06:03right now
01:06:03the difference
01:06:04between first
01:06:04and second place
01:06:05in the AST East
01:06:06they're watching
01:06:09down in Miami
01:06:10I wonder if
01:06:10Don Shul and company
01:06:11are just scratching
01:06:13their heads a little bit
01:06:13saying it's a long way
01:06:15before this season
01:06:16is settled
01:06:16football can take
01:06:18a lot of funny bounces
01:06:18and you just saw
01:06:19one of them there
01:06:20as far as
01:06:21the officials call
01:06:22that's right
01:06:24that's right
01:06:25you've got to take
01:06:26their head off
01:06:27to the Colts
01:06:27they're just playing
01:06:28playing their hearts out
01:06:29today
01:06:30all right
01:06:31important defensive
01:06:32series here
01:06:32they're playing
01:06:33for first place
01:06:34you've seen the standards
01:06:35second and nine
01:06:36at the 49
01:06:37snap never came
01:06:39a lot of motion
01:06:39and they'll step
01:06:40off five
01:06:41against New England
01:06:42ball never was
01:06:45snapped
01:06:45in all those
01:06:46right guard
01:06:47and right tackle
01:06:48now it'll be
01:06:51second and 14
01:06:52this Hoosier dome
01:06:54right now
01:06:55is
01:06:56I would say
01:06:57at least half empty
01:06:58it was a sellout
01:06:59as you can see
01:07:00from some of the shots
01:07:01as our director
01:07:02Harry Coyle
01:07:03has the cameras
01:07:04pull out
01:07:04I mean
01:07:05these people went home
01:07:06and the football game
01:07:07is very much in doubt
01:07:09right here
01:07:09with two minutes remaining
01:07:10and the Colts
01:07:11have three timeouts left
01:07:12and they have moved
01:07:13the ball against
01:07:14that Patriot defense
01:07:15should they get
01:07:15the ball back
01:07:16well I think
01:07:16perhaps the fans
01:07:17are conditioned
01:07:18to weak fourth
01:07:19photos up here
01:07:20but certainly
01:07:20not the case today
01:07:21second and 14
01:07:23at the 44
01:07:24decent throwing
01:07:29and flags are thrown
01:07:31it will be
01:07:31defensive pass
01:07:32interference
01:07:33I believe
01:07:34against Preston Davis
01:07:36a former Patriot
01:07:37the fans don't like it
01:07:38but it's a good call
01:07:39pass interference
01:07:43number 27 defense
01:07:45first down
01:07:46it was waived
01:07:49in the Patriots
01:07:50training camp
01:07:51in 1983
01:07:51and now
01:07:53early hit
01:07:54there you see
01:07:55the contact
01:07:55Preston may have been
01:07:57trying to get the ball
01:07:57but there was one problem
01:07:58there was a defender
01:07:59between
01:07:59a receiver
01:08:00between him and the ball
01:08:01clearly an early hit
01:08:02and that penalty hurts
01:08:03now it's going to be
01:08:04very difficult
01:08:05for the Colts
01:08:06to get the ball back
01:08:07they still have
01:08:08three timeouts
01:08:09still 155 left
01:08:11they purely
01:08:13cannot allow
01:08:14a first down
01:08:14because then
01:08:15because then you start
01:08:15talking about
01:08:16field goal range
01:08:17first down
01:08:23at the 43
01:08:24Craig James
01:08:27stopped
01:08:29you see an extra
01:08:29little punch thrown
01:08:30in there
01:08:31perhaps by Anthony
01:08:31Young
01:08:32and the Colts
01:08:33take the first
01:08:34of their three timeouts
01:08:35which they were smart
01:08:37enough now
01:08:38in retrospect
01:08:38not to take earlier
01:08:39when the crowd
01:08:40was a bit restive
01:08:41that's right
01:08:42they knew they had
01:08:42three timeouts left
01:08:43and a two minute warning
01:08:44to stop the clock
01:08:45so you're going to see
01:08:46you're going to see
01:08:47the Colts trying to
01:08:48gang tackle
01:08:48and strip the ball
01:08:49from the Patriots
01:08:50well when time is back in
01:08:52the Patriots
01:08:53will face second
01:08:54and seven
01:08:55at the 40
01:08:55they lead the Colts
01:08:5738-31
01:08:58both teams
01:08:59with two timeouts left
01:09:001-48 remaining
01:09:02Lynn earlier
01:09:04when the Colts
01:09:05had the ball
01:09:06and they were driving
01:09:06for a touchdown
01:09:07to draw within
01:09:08seven points
01:09:09you made the remark
01:09:11that perhaps
01:09:11why are they not
01:09:12calling a timeout
01:09:12of course the fans
01:09:13were booing
01:09:14now you see why
01:09:15the Colts only chance
01:09:16to win this ball game
01:09:17was to score then
01:09:18and to save their
01:09:19three timeouts
01:09:20and a two minute warning
01:09:21to stop the Patriots
01:09:22James
01:09:28stopped at the 40
01:09:29the Colts take another
01:09:30timeout
01:09:31it has been a
01:09:32fumble free
01:09:33football game
01:09:34several penalties
01:09:35two ejections
01:09:36two injuries
01:09:38one very serious
01:09:39and some interceptions
01:09:42three in the game
01:09:44two important ones
01:09:45led to points
01:09:46for the Patriots
01:09:47and 69 points scored
01:09:49but other than that
01:09:49there's really not
01:09:50much happening today
01:09:51144 remaining
01:09:53remember
01:09:54the Skins game
01:09:55golf coming up
01:09:56with Nicholson
01:09:57Palmer and the rest
01:09:57Patriots will head
01:09:59home to Detroit
01:10:00after a three game
01:10:01road trip
01:10:02the Colts
01:10:03will head to Chicago
01:10:05to play the Bears
01:10:06outdoors
01:10:07at Soldier Field
01:10:08not an enviable task
01:10:09but this is the kind
01:10:12of game
01:10:13when a team is going
01:10:14as poorly as
01:10:14Rod Dauhauer's team
01:10:16is going
01:10:16where even in defeat
01:10:17there's a lot of
01:10:19positive here
01:10:19Randy McMillan's
01:10:20first three touchdown
01:10:22game of his career
01:10:23Mike Pagel
01:10:24has looked sharp
01:10:25in addition to
01:10:26the controversial touchdown
01:10:27remember the first
01:10:28Patriots touchdown
01:10:29was set up by
01:10:30a catchable ball
01:10:31that went off
01:10:31Wayne Capers shoulder
01:10:32and intercepted
01:10:33by Roland James
01:10:34so the Colts
01:10:36if they lose
01:10:37should they lose
01:10:38there were factors
01:10:40working against them
01:10:41other than the way
01:10:41they played
01:10:42absolutely
01:10:42they can hold
01:10:43their head high
01:10:43today
01:10:44they played very well
01:10:45today
01:10:45and earlier when I said
01:10:46that their future
01:10:47their concern is next year
01:10:48I'll finish a thought
01:10:49after this play
01:10:50third and seven
01:10:51at the 40
01:10:51crowd comes to life
01:10:53the crowd that's left
01:10:54Craig James
01:10:55fights for a first down
01:10:59he got it
01:11:01and they did it
01:11:02on the ground
01:11:02a big
01:11:03big play
01:11:04Craig James
01:11:06and they will stop
01:11:10the clock
01:11:11and take a look
01:11:11what a clutch play here
01:11:13big John Hanna
01:11:14and Brian Holloway
01:11:14the two all pros
01:11:15from the left side
01:11:15pulling over to the right
01:11:1673 there
01:11:17big block
01:11:18tucking in behind
01:11:19Holloway
01:11:20and then you have that
01:11:21that tonnage
01:11:22on the hoof
01:11:23it's tough to stop
01:11:24and Craig James
01:11:25is no dummy
01:11:26he knows where to tuck
01:11:27and stay behind
01:11:27John Hanna
01:11:28and Brian Holloway
01:11:29and that was a clutch
01:11:30performance by
01:11:30perhaps three all pros
01:11:32Holloway and Hanna
01:11:33the established all pros
01:11:34but Craig James
01:11:35knocking on the door
01:11:36this year
01:11:36and that is
01:11:38the type of play
01:11:39that championships
01:11:39are made of
01:11:40Denver beat Pittsburgh
01:11:44where do you see
01:11:46the Cleveland Giants
01:11:47score
01:11:47if we can get it up
01:11:48Cincinnati
01:11:48beat Houston
01:11:50so Cincinnati
01:11:51within a game
01:11:52of Pittsburgh
01:11:52New Orleans
01:11:54winning their first
01:11:55Phillips
01:11:56Wade Phillips
01:11:57the Rams
01:11:58are trying
01:11:59to throw away
01:12:00that four game lead
01:12:01Green Bay
01:12:02with the shutout
01:12:03Lynn earlier
01:12:08I was talking about
01:12:09Rod Dauhauer
01:12:10not being so concerned
01:12:11with this year
01:12:12and I didn't mean
01:12:13they don't want to win
01:12:14but certainly
01:12:14the important thing
01:12:16for Rod Dauhauer
01:12:16and his staff
01:12:17in his first year here
01:12:18as we
01:12:19taper down here
01:12:21as the Patriots
01:12:21win the clock up
01:12:22the important thing
01:12:23for Dauhauer
01:12:24and the Colts
01:12:24is to perform
01:12:25like they did today
01:12:26to instill some pride
01:12:28and some sense
01:12:28of identity
01:12:29look at this one
01:12:30the Browns
01:12:31will take over
01:12:31first place
01:12:32if that holds on
01:12:33Ernest Beiner
01:12:34ran from two yards
01:12:35out with a minute 52
01:12:36to take the lead
01:12:37over the Giants
01:12:38but the Colts
01:12:38cannot stop the clock
01:12:40they are out of timeouts
01:12:41as you see
01:12:4267 seconds
01:12:44and counting
01:12:44and the Patriots
01:12:45can just fall on the ball
01:12:47and Raymond Burry
01:12:48and the Patriots
01:12:49will now be tied
01:12:50with the Jets
01:12:51for first place
01:12:52at nine and four
01:12:53Rod Dauhauer
01:12:54faces his fifth
01:12:55consecutive loss
01:12:56going to three
01:12:58and ten
01:12:59and that's true
01:13:00that's got to be
01:13:00very discouraging
01:13:01and frustrating
01:13:02and Coach Dauhauer
01:13:03has commented
01:13:04how he had no idea
01:13:05the pressures
01:13:06and the frustration
01:13:07of being a head coach
01:13:08in this league
01:13:08and they've lost
01:13:09five in a row
01:13:10and certainly
01:13:10that's nothing
01:13:11there's nothing
01:13:12exciting or optimistic
01:13:14about that
01:13:14but with the exception
01:13:16of last week
01:13:16when they played poorly
01:13:17on the road
01:13:18at Kansas City
01:13:18these Colts
01:13:19have not played badly
01:13:20and it's important
01:13:21as a matter of fact
01:13:21it's critical
01:13:22or crucial right now
01:13:23in the stage
01:13:24of the Dauhauer
01:13:25led Colts
01:13:26that they
01:13:27continue to improve
01:13:29and play their hearts out
01:13:30the remainder of the season
01:13:31even though they have
01:13:32no hopes for the playoffs
01:13:33it's important
01:13:34so they can play well
01:13:36and get some pride
01:13:37and some momentum
01:13:38built up
01:13:39to carry them over
01:13:40to the 1986 season
01:13:42and that'll do it
01:13:42how big was that
01:13:43last Craig James run
01:13:45the bad news
01:13:46for the Patriots
01:13:47they have lost
01:13:47Kenneth Sims
01:13:48broken leg
01:13:49the good news
01:13:49for Raymond Burry
01:13:50and company
01:13:50they are tied
01:13:51for first
01:13:52and winning
01:13:52the tiebreakers
01:13:53for Rod Dauhauer
01:13:55he now has to look
01:13:56at the Chicago Bears
01:13:58in Chicago
