00:00:00Won three weeks ago. That was the big play then when New England won by three. Here Buffalo leads by three
00:00:08Good punt. They should let this one go. They do and it will pin the Patriots back by their ten, inside their ten
00:00:18And it's covered by Jim Haslund
00:00:20I think the wise thing to do for New England with 149 left in the first half is to concentrate on protecting the football deep in your own end of the field and go to the clubhouse at halftime and talk this thing over because they're facing a very inspired, spirited and aggressive Buffalo Bills defense that hasn't played like this all year long
00:00:49Still waiting for a report on Tony Eason. In the meantime, the people's choice, Steve Grogan, a quarterback, first and ten at his eight
00:01:03Friar in motion. Long count. Good snap this time. Craig James as they keep it simple and he gets to the ten for a pickup of two
00:01:14Charles Rome's on the stop
00:01:17Now you're watching Irving Friar go in motion. Coming up at halftime, NFL 85 with Bill Ahmad and Axe. You're watching Irving Friar go in motion quite a bit, but that motion isn't doing anything leading to the Buffalo Bills defense
00:01:32When you send people in motion, hopefully you want the defense to move, but it's not happening, so they might as well stop it
00:01:39The offense for New England has been called unimaginative in the past. Maybe that adjective is correct again today. Second and eight at the ten
00:01:49Grogan picks up a yard or two, but if he should get hurt as well in running the ball, he might. Their third string quarterback is a wide receiver, Stephan Starr
00:02:02And the New England Patriots are very much prepared if in fact Grogan gets hurt. They have an offense that they run with Stephan Starr playing quarterback and they practice it every Monday and Saturday
00:02:15They're keeping it simple here, Reggie. They're not calling a timeout. Obviously, they want to run out the clock in this first half
00:02:21And a few years ago, Grogan would have taken that ball and ran for a first down. He was a terrific running quarterback a few years ago until the knee injury
00:02:28Good scramble. Twenty-five seconds left in the half
00:02:33And that should be delay of game. The thirty-second clock has run out
00:02:37So in the three snap opportunities for Steve Grogan, one has been fumbled. Second play he got off, although they couldn't make anything out of it
00:02:46And here on the third try, delay of game. So a bit of a rusty Steve Grogan coming in for the injured Tony Eason
00:02:54Well, as a professional athlete, you're expected to play under all kinds of conditions, circumstances, and you're supposed to be impervious to weather conditions
00:03:03But I don't think that's the case today. These athletes on both sides of the football have been affected
00:03:07Six combined turnovers
00:03:10And just three points scored
00:03:12Third down
00:03:14In his end zone
00:03:16Throwing long
00:03:18For Fryer! He's got him!
00:03:21The clock has run out. Irving Fryer!
00:03:26And Stanley Morgan
00:03:31And Bruce Smith helps Steve Grogan up
00:03:34They bust a long play, but time has run out on the first half
00:03:38As Fryer got it to Morgan
00:03:40He cannot advance that ball, though. In the last two minutes of a half or the game, only the man who fumbles the football is allowed to pick the football up again
00:03:50Let's hold it right here. The players are being called back on the field
00:03:55Irving Fryer. Let's check out the end of this play. Fumbled. This cannot be advanced by Stanley Morgan. It can only be advanced by Irving Fryer
00:04:06Now let's see what the discussion is with the officials, because the players have been summoned back
00:04:11And also, the game, all to have, cannot end on a defensive foul
00:04:17Oh, I didn't see a flag dropped
00:04:20Come on back, guys. We're gonna hold off the meeting for a while
00:04:26But advancing a fumble is not a penalty
00:04:30So let's check out Gene Barth
00:04:34According to fourth down fumble rule, or a fumble inside of two minutes, the ball is dead where it was first fumbled
00:04:41It was recovered by the advancing team
00:04:43Therefore, the play was dead
00:04:45However, the clocking expired. The half is over
00:04:48Thank you, Gene, and no penalty
00:04:51And so, for the first time since December 8th, 1984, the Buffalo Bills lead at halftime
00:04:59They lead the New England Patriots 3-0
00:05:02They led the Jets back last December 17-7, so this is a rare lead for Buffalo
00:05:09And certainly a rare lead on the road looking for their first victory of 85
00:05:16Scott Norwood has converted a 48-yard field goal in the second quarter
00:05:23That's all we have. 3-0 Buffalo over New England
00:05:27A total of six turnovers, four by the Patriots, two by the Bills
00:05:31And so Buffalo finds themselves in rarefied air right now
00:05:36On top in the scoring column, 3-0
00:05:39NFL 85 halftime activities will continue in a moment
00:05:42We'll be back after these messages from your local station
00:05:54All right, we want to welcome those of you who have been watching New England and Buffalo
00:05:57It is 3-0 Buffalo, and we want to take this opportunity to get you caught up on scores from around the National Football League
00:06:03As we get Week 6 underway
00:06:05First of all, down in Dallas, the Cowboys lead the Steelers by a score of 10-3
00:06:10Great first half for Danny White, who was 10-for-10 at one point
00:06:14Tony Dorsett came in today needing just 31 yards to become the sixth player in NFL history to get 10,000
00:06:20He only has five yards rushing, but his main contribution has come as a receiver
00:06:25Beating the linebacker, splitting the seam, Dorsett scores
00:06:2956 yards the play covers, 10-3 Dallas after Rafael Septian's field goal just before the half
00:06:3510-3 down at Texas Stadium
00:06:37Denver and Indianapolis, it is 6-3 in that ballgame in the Hoosier Dome
00:06:41A couple of 3-2 clubs
00:06:43The Broncos won a 4-3-2 team in the AFC West
00:06:47Dan Reeves has watched his Broncos turn into a potent offense
00:06:51And here's how the touchdown was scored
00:06:53The sequence, it started with a punt return by Vance Johnson
00:06:56Who goes up the right side, finds the wall
00:06:5938 yards down to the 46-yard line
00:07:03And then on the very next play, John Elway takes control
00:07:06He finds Clint Sampson, the play covers 45 yards
00:07:10It set up Sammy Winder's 2-yard touchdown run
00:07:136-3 Denver after Raul Alegre's 28-yard field goal
00:07:17The Giants and Cincinnati, this is a surprise
00:07:20Cincinnati leads the game by a score of 21-3
00:07:23It figured to be a big day for Phil Simms against the Bengals secondary
00:07:27Ranked last against the pass, but it has been all Cincinnati
00:07:31They scored on their first possession and have dominated since
00:07:3421-3 at the half
00:07:36The Rams and the Bucks, Tampa Bay leads this one 17-14
00:07:40The Rams have won with defense, but Tampa Bay has played well
00:07:44Eric Dickerson has scored a touchdown for the Rams
00:07:47James Wilder has scored on a 1-yard touchdown run for Tampa Bay
00:07:50Cleveland and Houston, they are at the half down in the Astrodome
00:07:53The Oilers lead 6-0, a couple of Tony Zendejas field goals
00:07:57And so far it has been costly for Cleveland
00:08:00They have lost Eddie Johnson, the Browns' leading tackler
00:08:03Bernie Kosar started today, his first NFL start
00:08:06And he was intercepted, although it wasn't his fault
00:08:09The ball was tipped in the air
00:08:11And the Oilers lead 6-0
00:08:13Buffalo and New England, the game that you are watching
00:08:16As you know, Tony Eason is now out
00:08:18He has thrown a couple of interceptions
00:08:20Steve Grogan replaced him and fumbled the first snap that he took
00:08:23Of course, the big story in Buffalo, the return of that man
00:08:26Joe Cribs is back, although on the sidelines
00:08:29Both Tony Eason and Vince Ferragamo have had interception problems
00:08:32Here is a key interception though
00:08:34Derek Burrows, his first pro start
00:08:36Intercepts Eason in the end zone to stop a drive
00:08:39Charles Rolmes will intercept Eason here
00:08:42That set up the Buffalo field goal
00:08:44Buffalo had 6 takeaways coming in
00:08:46They have already had 4 today
00:08:483-0 Buffalo
00:08:49Detroit and Washington, the Redskins still on track
00:08:5217-3 the score at RFK Stadium
00:08:55The Lions haven't won in Washington since 1937
00:08:58And at County Stadium in Milwaukee
00:09:00Minnesota and Green Bay have just gone into the 3rd quarter
00:09:03They are locked at 7
00:09:05Lynn Dickey has thrown a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Clark
00:09:08Tommy Kramer responded with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mike Jones
00:09:12And Philadelphia leads St. Louis in another of a game that you could call a surprise
00:09:1613-0, they are in the 2nd quarter
00:09:19Now Mr. Axelm, you have struggled watching this game
00:09:22Well, I have
00:09:23You know, I have to mention one thing
00:09:24You keep saying it's surprising that Cincinnati is so far ahead of the Giants
00:09:27It was my best bet, the Bengals today
00:09:29I'm allowed one little gloat
00:09:31But, am I watching that game? No
00:09:34Am I watching Pittsburgh and Dallas? No
00:09:36The masochist that I am, I've chosen to watch the Patriots and the Bills
00:09:40And it qualifies as my first lethal injection game of the year
00:09:43If you're on death row
00:09:44And they give you a choice between hanging, a lethal injection or watching this game
00:09:49You have to choose between the hanging and the lethal injection
00:09:51Peter, you need a rest
00:09:54Earlier on our pre-game show, by the way
00:09:56Larry King said that the Players Association will sign an agreement for drug testing in Major League Baseball
00:10:02Donald Fair, the director of the Players Association, denied the story
00:10:05But he did confirm a few moments ago
00:10:07There has been a proposal from the 26 clubs concerning drug testing
00:10:11But that no plan is imminent
00:10:14We still have a half a football to go
00:10:16Stay with us as our halftime activities continue here on NBC
00:10:21♪♪♪♪
00:10:275, leading the Patriots 3-0
00:10:29And it has started to rain again
00:10:31So an interesting second half in store
00:10:33We presume, we have not heard about Tony Eason yet
00:10:36We presume that Steve Grogan will be back in quarterback for the Patriots in the second half, Reggie
00:10:41Well, Steve Grogan is the man they've been calling for
00:10:43Now they've got him
00:10:45One of the points we have to be cautious of at this point is that
00:10:48If Grogan gets hurt, what happens?
00:10:50That's right, Stephan Starring
00:10:51Let's take a look at the last play of the first half
00:10:53Up to this point, the Patriots had 56 total yards of offense in the entire half on this one play
00:10:59They doubled it to Irving Fryer
00:11:01New England came into this football game wanting to throw the football deep
00:11:04Now this is the first time they were successful with that
00:11:07I think they'll do more of it in the second half
00:11:10Stanley Morgan pick up
00:11:11You are not allowed to advance a fumble by a teammate in the last two minutes
00:11:16Now, early in the game
00:11:18Reggie went on a limb and told you what the keys to the game were
00:11:20So let's do our report card on Reggie now and see how you did
00:11:23Here is the keys you said that Buffalo had to face to win this game
00:11:27For Buffalo, they must run the football and gain at least four yards or more
00:11:32A carry on first down so that they can control the time of possession
00:11:36You know that New England wants to throw the football with their dangerous passing attack
00:11:41So Buffalo must control the football
00:11:43And we'll give you an idea of how much they did control it in the first half
00:11:47You also said they had to possess the ball for a long period of time
00:11:49They did that
00:11:50Now you said the Patriots' keys to win the game
00:11:53Patriots had to throw the football on first down and attack the Buffalo secondary deep
00:11:58I think one of the reasons why they're behind in this football game right now
00:12:01Is because they didn't do that successfully enough on first down
00:12:05Until the very last play of the half
00:12:07And the big story of the first half, the turnovers
00:12:09The Patriots turned it over four times, Buffalo too
00:12:12Can they hold on to the second half?
00:12:14We'll find out
00:12:15This word from the NFL
00:12:16Reggie, the time of possession would be important
00:12:18And look, Buffalo has won that war
00:12:20Maybe that's why they lead a 3-0
00:12:22The two most important statistics in the halftime stats are
00:12:25The turnovers, which Buffalo has an advantage on
00:12:29And also the time of possession
00:12:3117 minutes, 22 seconds for the Buffalo Bills
00:12:34And 12.38 for the New England Patriots
00:12:36Which keeps that dangerous passing attack of the New England Patriots off the field
00:12:41Only 68 total yards in the first half for the Buffalo Bills
00:12:45And yet as the rain now pours in from right to left
00:12:49And the wind kicks up a bit
00:12:51They do lead a 3-0
00:12:52As Scott Norwood will try to keep the ball teed up
00:12:55Against the elements
00:12:57Kicking away now to start the second half
00:12:59And once you get a lead in a game like this, Lynn
00:13:01The advantage shifts to the team with that lead
00:13:04And Buffalo knows that New England will be throwing the football now
00:13:09Norwood, good kick to Stephan Starring
00:13:12And he will down it in the end zone
00:13:15So Norwood does his job
00:13:17He had the wind and rain to his back
00:13:19And now the Patriots come on with Steve Grogan at quarterback
00:13:23So Tony Eason, and we are still waiting for a report on Eason
00:13:27He is not able to answer the second half bell
00:13:30And the veteran Grogan will be at quarterback
00:13:33His 11th year out of Kansas State
00:13:35And I can assure you that Raymond Berry has said this to Steve Grogan
00:13:39Look, Eason is out
00:13:41Do not take chances
00:13:42We cannot afford to lose you in this game
00:13:50First down from the 20
00:13:52He will be passing into the rain and win
00:13:55So he hands off to Robert Weathers instead
00:13:58Maybe they'll try to do it on the ground
00:14:00He picks up three
00:14:03The middle linebackers Haslett and Marv on the tackle
00:14:06You know, someone who we haven't talked much about today, Len
00:14:09Who's doing a fine job in the middle of that Buffalo defensive line
00:14:12Is number 76, Fred Smurlus, the all-pro
00:14:15He is doing a fabulous job of tying up the New England blocking
00:14:20And shutting down the New England run right in the center of the field
00:14:25The report on Tony Eason, and he is on the far side in uniform
00:14:29A separated shoulder
00:14:32Second and eight from the 22
00:14:37Hear the defense yelling pass
00:14:41Grogan throwing out of bounds
00:14:44Looking over there for Stanley Morgan
00:14:46Look who's visiting Grogan
00:14:48Bruce Smith
00:14:51Bruce Smith doing his job
00:14:54Sometimes you won't get the sacks because you just won't get there in time
00:14:57But what's more important as you watch Smith's head slap there
00:15:00On Brian Holloway, the all-pro, is pressuring
00:15:03Watch, he makes Grogan get rid of the football
00:15:05A little before he wanted it to, causing a bad pass
00:15:09See, Grogan can't afford to take those hits, Len
00:15:11Because when you fall like that with a man weighing 280 pounds on your back
00:15:15That's how you get separated shoulders
00:15:18Sean McNatty now joins the four-man front along with Don Smith
00:15:21Four-man rush front and six defensive backs
00:15:25On a shotgun third-down passing situation
00:15:28Grogan throwing into those backs
00:15:30Completing to Cedric Jones for the 43
00:15:33Jones is a guy who killed the Bills here a year ago
00:15:36A 21-yard pickup for Cedric Jones
00:15:39One of the few times in this ballgame that New England has converted
00:15:42A third-down situation into a first-down
00:15:45And that time they had their four-wide receiver offense
00:15:49And they caused mismatches across the board
00:15:51There it is, there's the blocking
00:15:53Good pickups, McNatty there being blocked well
00:15:56This is a good throw, good velocity into this weather
00:15:59And there's the catch by Cedric Jones on the first down
00:16:03First down now for Grogan at his 43
00:16:06Craig James to the 45, a pickup of two
00:16:11So if you watch Craig James run this football
00:16:14You can see how tentative he is and his running ability here
00:16:18They are not sure because the footing is poor
00:16:20I don't think the offensive linemen can get good starts
00:16:24Out of their blocking stance and therefore
00:16:26This may be a day when you might be able to pass the ball
00:16:29A little bit more effectively than running
00:16:33Second and eight
00:16:36Lynn Dawson, number 87
00:16:38Maybe he's shaken up a bit
00:16:40Three
00:16:42Two, two
00:16:44Grogan throwing for Friar, a completion
00:16:47For another New England first down
00:16:49Irving Friar watched by Rodney Bellinger, a pickup of ten
00:16:54Where is Derrick Barrows?
00:16:57He was not in the game on that play
00:17:01There's Grogan, just with a quick slant
00:17:03This is a pass pattern that you like to run
00:17:05When a defensive back is playing off of you
00:17:07As you can see, Bellinger who is in the game for Barrows
00:17:10Afraid of the speed of Friar
00:17:13Barrows is back in now, watching Friar on the near side
00:17:16First down at the Buffalo, 43
00:17:20Draw play, Weathers
00:17:22Cracks to the 39 and now for the first time this afternoon
00:17:26The Patriots have something going on offense
00:17:28Behind Steve Grogan
00:17:30We've played three minutes of the third quarter
00:17:32With a big, powerful
00:17:35Offensive line, all pros on the left side
00:17:38And Brian Holloway, 76
00:17:40And John Hannah, 73
00:17:41You would expect New England to gain control of the line of scrimmage
00:17:45And be able to run the ball and throw it effectively
00:17:47And this is the first time that we've seen it today
00:17:54So second and six at the Buffalo, 39
00:17:58Steve Grogan directing the offense
00:18:00For the injured Tony Eason
00:18:02Reverse
00:18:04Fake reverse
00:18:06Looking for Craig James
00:18:07He's got him at the 11, at the 16 rather
00:18:10Weathers
00:18:23Finally something for Patriots fans to cheer about
00:18:2623 yards
00:18:27The fake reverse
00:18:28Just trying to freeze the people in the secondary
00:18:31Particularly the linebacker
00:18:33Darrell Talley there covering number 32 Craig James
00:18:37Who happens to be the fastest New England back
00:18:39Couldn't stay up with him
00:18:45First down at the 16
00:18:48This is the deepest New England penetration
00:18:51Looking for Fryer
00:18:53Heads down
00:18:54Touchdown Patriots
00:18:55Grogan has done it
00:18:57Just a sensational catch
00:19:09Woo!
00:19:20Irving Fryer has been getting better and better each week
00:19:23Watch the bullet throw by Grogan
00:19:26Bottom of your screen
00:19:27A sprawling diving catch by Irving Fryer
00:19:31On the wet turf
00:19:34Slam dunking the ball
00:19:36New England has its first touchdown
00:19:40And flags are down
00:19:42The kick is called good
00:19:44The first sustained drive of any kind
00:19:47Is Morgan
00:19:48And Sims congratulate Fryer for a second
00:19:51The defensive team has 12 men on the field
00:19:54We'll penalize them on the kickoff
00:19:55The point is good
00:19:5612 men on the field
00:19:58Bills did that against the Colts as well
00:20:00So suddenly the momentum is swung towards the Patriots
00:20:0316 yards
00:20:04Grogan to Fryer
00:20:057-3 Patriots
00:20:07Steve Grogan was replaced
00:20:08His quote was
00:20:09Five bad quarters
00:20:11And there goes my career
00:20:12Now a separated left shoulder to Tony Eason
00:20:15The comeback is underway
00:20:17Grogan led them 80 yards with the second half kickoff
00:20:20The Patriots lead
00:20:22The kickoff is short and out of bounds
00:20:25So the yards they lost on the 12 men on the field
00:20:27Buffalo will get back now on the ensuing kickoff
00:20:31Special teams people just hate this
00:20:34I mean they have a disdain for kickers that kick the ball out of bounds
00:20:37Because now they've got to go back
00:20:39Run down again
00:20:42The one was offside
00:20:43And we had a kickoff out of bounds
00:20:45We'll re-kick with a 5-yard penalty
00:20:48And normally if you have a big play on a kick return
00:20:52It's usually in this situation
00:20:53Because you're asking the coverage people to do it over again
00:20:56That's what happened last time they met Reggie
00:20:57Is that right?
00:20:58When Irving Fryer had that 85-yard punt return for a touchdown
00:21:01It was the second punt
00:21:02Donald Wilson was downfield too fast the first time around
00:21:05They had a punt the second time
00:21:06Boom!
00:21:07Just as you said touchdown
00:21:08That was the key play
00:21:11Franklin who has not missed an extra point
00:21:13Or had a kick blocked
00:21:14As a New England Patriot for two years now
00:21:17Will tee it up now from the 35
00:21:19Franklin just doesn't get the kind of distance
00:21:21That they would like on kickoffs
00:21:23He kicks the ball short
00:21:25And it gives the return man an advantage
00:21:32And he still hasn't reached the end zone
00:21:34At the 5
00:21:35Richardson
00:21:37Eric Richardson
00:21:38Gets a good return to the 36
00:21:43He is finally dragged down
00:21:44By Fred Marion
00:21:47We have an update coming your way
00:21:49Let's go to Bill McAtee
00:21:51Alright Len the Browns have struck early in the third quarter
00:21:53Against Houston
00:21:54Bernie Kosar has thrown his first NFL touchdown
00:21:57Here it is to Clarence Weathers
00:21:59The play covers 68 yards
00:22:01It is now 7-6
00:22:03Cleveland leads for the first time
00:22:07And here Bill
00:22:08Clarence's brother Robert's team
00:22:10The New England Patriots lead for the first time
00:22:137-3
00:22:14The Bills will start at their 35
00:22:16First and 10
00:22:20Ferragamo
00:22:21A struggle in that first half
00:22:22Hopes to turn it around
00:22:23With Norris in motion
00:22:28Pressure from Sims
00:22:29Completion to Bell
00:22:30To the 40 for a 5 yard pickup
00:22:32Before Johnny Rembrick brought him down
00:22:34Number 52
00:22:35Remember we told you about the keys to the game
00:22:37For the Buffalo Bills
00:22:39They want to run the football
00:22:40Control time of possession
00:22:41And pick up 4 or 5 yards on first down
00:22:45Here's the blocking up front
00:22:46Vogler
00:22:49Richer
00:22:50Well I tell you Ken Sims was pushed from behind
00:22:52By Joe Devlin
00:22:55Wonder that play wasn't called
00:22:58One was called earlier
00:23:00Second and 5 at the 40
00:23:02For the Buffalo Bills
00:23:04Here comes Rembrick
00:23:05Got it off to Bell
00:23:07Bell's got a first down and more
00:23:10Finally run out by Fred Marion
00:23:12Close to midfield
00:23:14So suddenly the Bills offense responds
00:23:17To the Patriots thrust
00:23:18And Ferragamo and Bell combine on two quick plays
00:23:21And it was a good read by Vince Ferragamo
00:23:23Because he recognized the blitz
00:23:25He got rid of the football in time
00:23:27And he really made something out of nothing
00:23:29And another fine effort by Greg Bell
00:23:31To pick up yardage on that play
00:23:35So the Bills are out to their 49
00:23:38We've already seen more offense
00:23:39In the first 5 minutes of this third quarter
00:23:41Than we saw in the entire first half
00:23:43And we haven't had a turnover yet
00:23:52Stumbles
00:23:53That'll go as a sack
00:23:54Steve Nelson grabs Ferragamo's shirt
00:23:57For good measure
00:23:58The fourth Buffalo sack
00:24:00They have so many changes going on
00:24:02In the offensive line
00:24:03Sometimes when that happens
00:24:04A quarterback will trip over
00:24:06One of his offensive linemen's foot or something
00:24:10Let's see if we can detect something going on here
00:24:17I don't know
00:24:18No he just crosses his feet
00:24:20He trips over his
00:24:21Over the yard marker there
00:24:22As we used to say
00:24:24Old yard marker jumped up and bit him
00:24:29Call this the 2nd and 16th of the 40
00:24:31You have to look out for that yard marker
00:24:34Draw play
00:24:35Bell heads out to the outside
00:24:37Good run by Bell
00:24:41Gets into Patriot territory at the 49
00:24:43Before Tippett and Nelson drag him down
00:24:47It's gonna be 3rd and 8 or so
00:24:49We really haven't heard as much from Andre Tippett today
00:24:52As we thought we would hear
00:24:54Which might indicate that the Buffalo Bills
00:24:56Are doing an excellent job of blocking him
00:24:58And keeping him away from the quarterback
00:25:02There's Andre
00:25:03Black belt in karate
00:25:04Teaches his teammates karate as well
00:25:06He's on the USA karate team
00:25:103rd and 9 at midfield
00:25:12The Bills need the Patriots 41
00:25:22He has the time
00:25:25Threw it into traffic
00:25:26And Roland James had it
00:25:28For a second
00:25:29It was intended for Andre Reed
00:25:31As James and Lippitt
00:25:33Combined to stop that play
00:25:35He was in the first half
00:25:37But he had a good spiral
00:25:38Good tight spiral
00:25:39Good velocity
00:25:40But Ken Sims
00:25:41Number 77
00:25:42Coming on the left side
00:25:43Forces him to really throw this ball
00:25:45A little sooner than he wanted to
00:25:47And Roland James had an outstanding opportunity
00:25:49To get the ball back
00:25:506th punt of John Kidd
00:25:52High punt
00:25:55And a fair catch at the 10
00:25:57Is called by Fryer
00:25:59That takes a lot of nerve Lenny
00:26:01To catch a ball
00:26:02In these kinds of conditions
00:26:04With your hands
00:26:07Well the flag is down
00:26:10Let's see if this repeats
00:26:12What happened 3 weeks ago
00:26:15Defense
00:26:18That's unforgivable there
00:26:2012 men on the field
00:26:23Just can't have that
00:26:25If you're looking to win
00:26:27A division in the National Football League
00:26:31Well I think they might decline this
00:26:35Pin the Patriots back to the 10
00:26:375 yards would help the Buffalo Bills very much here
00:26:42Hank Bullough
00:26:4312 men on the field
00:26:44And a defense
00:26:45Penalties refused
00:26:46That's the call from Hank Bullough
00:26:48He declines it
00:26:49So the Patriots will start at their 10
00:26:51Their last drive was an 80 yard success
00:26:548.48 remaining third quarter
00:26:56Grogan comes back with the lead
00:27:00Hank Bullough after last week's demolition derby
00:27:03Said if we knew it was going to be like this
00:27:05He wouldn't have shown up
00:27:06Forfeited
00:27:07Taken a fine
00:27:08Rather than played like that
00:27:10He says there's nowhere to go but up
00:27:12Here's Titupu
00:27:13And he has nowhere to go but for a first down
00:27:1610 yard pickup
00:27:24Titupu
00:27:28And he has a fan club here
00:27:30They sell t-shirts and other paraphernalia
00:27:32Donate the money to charity
00:27:34And when you're in doubt run behind
00:27:36Hannah and Holloway on the left side
00:27:38That's what they're doing
00:27:39Well they tried it last week on fourth down
00:27:41In a critical situation
00:27:42Titupu was stopped
00:27:44This time he went for 10
00:27:45First down at the 20
00:27:47Titupu again
00:27:50This time he picks up 4 maybe 5
00:27:52Eugene Marv is on top of him
00:27:54Number 54
00:27:55Maybe Mosey is the ideal runner
00:27:57On this kind of field
00:27:58He's a flat footed runner
00:27:59He runs very low
00:28:01He's not very flamboyant in his style
00:28:03And therefore he is less likely to slip and fall
00:28:06And do things that will cause him not to gain yardage
00:28:09You can't list him at 6 foot
00:28:10He looks smaller than that
00:28:12They have a huge offensive line down there though
00:28:14Brian Holloway for example is 6 feet 7 inches tall
00:28:19So 2nd and 6 at the 24
00:28:217.35 remains in the 3rd quarter
00:28:23The Patriots lead 7.3
00:28:25Their offense has clicked here in the 2nd half
00:28:28Behind Steve Grogan
00:28:29Titupu a 3rd time
00:28:31And another first down
00:28:39In the 1st half
00:28:40They were giving the ball to Collins and James
00:28:42And they were running outside
00:28:43They were slipping and they were falling down
00:28:45And they didn't have the good footwork
00:28:47Now look
00:28:48This is very simple football
00:28:50Run the football straight ahead
00:28:51Look at the good block by Brian Holloway
00:28:53Blocking in there
00:28:58You're right
00:28:59Maybe he's the kind of runner for these conditions
00:29:013 straight rushes
00:29:02A total of 24 yards
00:29:03The Patriots have it
00:29:041st down at their 33
00:29:063
00:29:08This time it's Collins
00:29:11Big hold for Collins
00:29:13And a flag is down
00:29:15As Tony gets to the 44
00:29:17This may come back though
00:29:19After a pick up of 11
00:29:23Maybe a hold
00:29:2887 offense
00:29:29Holding 10 yards per lead
00:29:31We'll replay to that
00:29:32Lynn Dawson the tight end
00:29:35They don't throw to the tight ends much here
00:29:37Not like the days when Russ Francis
00:29:39Played at that position
00:29:40Tight end mainly blocks
00:29:42And that time a hold was detected
00:29:44Let's see if we can't detect the hold
00:29:46There it is
00:29:4787
00:29:48Lynn Dawson right there
00:29:49Has his hand
00:29:51And a lot of jersey
00:29:54Interesting thing about the strategy here
00:29:56Is run the ball up the middle
00:29:57Run it up the middle
00:29:58And then run outside
00:29:59And you saw there was a running lane outside
00:30:02So this will be costly
00:30:03And another penalty that hurts
00:30:04Instead of 1st down at the 44
00:30:06It's 1st and 20 at the 23
00:30:11Wide open
00:30:12Stanley Morgan
00:30:16That got him where the last run did
00:30:18Same spot
00:30:1944 yard line
00:30:20Pick up of 19
00:30:22One of the reasons that's happening
00:30:24Is because Martin Bayless
00:30:25The safety is supposed to be
00:30:27Double teaming on that wide receiver
00:30:29But he is not getting over there in time
00:30:31Watch Bayless
00:30:3243
00:30:33See he's arriving too late
00:30:34And 29 barrels
00:30:36Can't cover both
00:30:37Short and deep
00:30:38That's Bayless' responsibility
00:30:41Long pick up
00:30:421st down
00:30:43The Patriots are moving
00:30:441st down at the 44
00:30:47They overcome that penalty
00:30:55Friar
00:30:56Oh wow
00:30:57Lost him
00:30:59Was it a reception?
00:31:00No
00:31:02Ruled incomplete
00:31:03He had 2 shots at it
00:31:04I thought he grabbed it the 2nd time
00:31:06But couldn't hang on
00:31:07On that kind of pattern
00:31:08Len
00:31:09That kind of throw
00:31:10Is the receiver's best friend
00:31:11Because
00:31:12You want that ball low
00:31:13So that you can catch it
00:31:14And get down out of the way
00:31:15Of that hit
00:31:16That's coming right at you
00:31:18Dallas leading Pittsburgh
00:31:19In the 3rd quarter
00:31:252nd down at the 44
00:31:28We'll show you some more scores
00:31:29In a few moments
00:31:31Steve Grogan has to be happy
00:31:33With his performance
00:31:34Here in the 2nd half
00:31:35I'm sure his fans are
00:31:36Who pulled for him as well
00:31:40Collins
00:31:41Near midfield
00:31:44Pick up of about 5
00:31:51The game looks so much more artistic
00:31:54There's
00:31:55Denver leading Indianapolis
00:31:579-3
00:32:00Giants
00:32:01They trailed 21-0
00:32:02Now they're back within 11 of
00:32:03The Cincinnati Bengals
00:32:05Tampa Bay
00:32:06That's a shocker
00:32:07Rams are undefeated
00:32:09Tampa Bay's winless
00:32:10Houston continues to lead Cleveland
00:32:13This is 3rd and 4 at midfield
00:32:19Flag is down
00:32:20He's open
00:32:22A good defensive play
00:32:23Turned in
00:32:25By Charles Romes
00:32:27As Grogan had his man
00:32:30Vanley Morgan says
00:32:31Hey, that was a nice play you made
00:32:33Charles Romes has played forever
00:32:36Without publicity
00:32:37Without recognition
00:32:38He is an outstanding cornerback
00:32:40And recovers well
00:32:42Look at that play
00:32:43By Charles Romes
00:32:49It was motion anyway
00:32:50But how often do you see
00:32:51A wide receiver come back
00:32:52And tell the cornerback
00:32:53You just made a great play
00:32:54We call that recovery speed
00:32:56And Charles Romes
00:32:57Really does that very well
00:32:59Once he's beaten
00:33:00To get back in
00:33:01And make a great play
00:33:02That is as pretty
00:33:03As a defensive cornerback play
00:33:05As you will see
00:33:07Morgan had two steps on him
00:33:09Romes came back
00:33:10On a flying play
00:33:12To tip it away
00:33:13And now Rich Camarillo
00:33:14Will punt away
00:33:15To Donald Wilson
00:33:17And Donald Wilson
00:33:18Is a good return man
00:33:21Good kick
00:33:22Into the wind
00:33:23Fair catch called
00:33:24By Wilson
00:33:25And he takes it
00:33:26At the 11th
00:33:28So with 5.43
00:33:29Remaining in the third quarter
00:33:31The Bills get it back
00:33:32Trailing by four
00:33:34Camarillo does his job
00:33:37The Buffalo Bills
00:33:38Start at their 11th
00:33:39First down
00:33:42Greg Bell has been their offense
00:33:44And he picks up
00:33:45Perhaps three
00:33:46To the 14
00:33:47Before Tippett stops him
00:33:49I don't know what the percentage of
00:33:51Handling the ball
00:33:52Greg Bell is
00:33:53Must be high
00:33:54He handles the ball so much
00:33:55That it's very easy
00:33:56To win a team
00:33:57That's giving the ball
00:33:58To one man
00:33:59So much
00:34:00They need to get
00:34:01Some of the other players
00:34:02Involved in their offense
00:34:03Andre Reid is a
00:34:04Terrific athlete
00:34:05He has breakaway ability
00:34:07They have Jerry Butler
00:34:08On the football field
00:34:09They need to get the football
00:34:10To some other players
00:34:12Kenneth Sims heads out
00:34:13He's replaced by
00:34:14Julius Adams
00:34:15Second and eight
00:34:16At the 13
00:34:17Garagamo passing
00:34:19To Bell
00:34:20Once again
00:34:21There's that man
00:34:22If you watch Bell
00:34:23You're watching their offense
00:34:24Out to the 25
00:34:25First down Buffalo
00:34:27Johnny Rembrandt over there
00:34:28Well
00:34:29If
00:34:30Joe Cribs is ready
00:34:31Next week
00:34:32And he's in street clothes
00:34:33Today
00:34:34If he can play
00:34:35That will be one of the
00:34:36More exciting back fields
00:34:37In the National Football League
00:34:38Bell and Cribs
00:34:39Now Cribs
00:34:40Was running earlier today
00:34:41In sweats
00:34:42The team doctor told me
00:34:43Didn't have the stamina
00:34:44Had trouble running a little bit
00:34:45So he'll need to work up
00:34:47His shape
00:34:48For next week
00:34:49If he hopes to play
00:34:50Against the Colts in Buffalo
00:34:55Bell again
00:34:57Bell getting tired maybe
00:34:58Six yard gain
00:35:02Alright let's check in
00:35:03With Bill McAtee
00:35:04For another update
00:35:05On NFL 85
00:35:07Alright Lenny
00:35:08Moments ago
00:35:09Tony Dorsett joined
00:35:10A select group of players
00:35:11To rush for 10,000 yards
00:35:12In a career
00:35:13This is the play
00:35:14It covers 22 yards
00:35:15Easily more than
00:35:16Tony had in the entire
00:35:17First half
00:35:18He is the sixth player now
00:35:19To go over 10,000 yards
00:35:20That's at upper Raphael
00:35:21Septian field goal
00:35:22There's the score
00:35:25I wonder if the fact
00:35:26That Bill McAtee is from Texas
00:35:27Is why he keeps showing us
00:35:28These Dallas highlights
00:35:29I don't know
00:35:30Congratulations
00:35:31Tony Dorsett
00:35:32And Greg Bell
00:35:34He may get 10,000
00:35:35In his career
00:35:36The way he's going
00:35:37Another first down
00:35:38Every play in the series
00:35:39To Greg Bell
00:35:41He's to the 36th
00:35:42Fred Marion on the stop
00:35:44Used to be an old adage
00:35:45Among head football coaches
00:35:47Around the National Football League
00:35:48That when in trouble
00:35:50Think players
00:35:52And not plays
00:35:53And since Greg Bell
00:35:54Is the best player
00:35:55On this football team
00:35:56Maybe it's the right thing
00:35:57To do as far as
00:35:58Hank Bull is concerned
00:35:59Just give him the football
00:36:00How about a play action
00:36:01Fake right now
00:36:02To Greg Bell
00:36:03Or a pass from Greg Bell
00:36:04Something to use him
00:36:05As a decoy
00:36:06Ah
00:36:07Would you like to be
00:36:08An offensive coordinator
00:36:09No
00:36:10No
00:36:11Play action fake
00:36:12To Bell
00:36:13Over the middle
00:36:14To Bell
00:36:15I mean you know
00:36:16This is easy to spot
00:36:17We hire some very expensive
00:36:18Spotters in the booth
00:36:19We don't need them today
00:36:20Number 28
00:36:21Buffalo
00:36:22Up to the 45
00:36:25And Vince's stats
00:36:27Not too swift
00:36:28This afternoon
00:36:297 of 22
00:36:3072 yards
00:36:31One interception
00:36:32Should have an asterisk
00:36:33He's
00:36:34Could very easily have
00:36:35Five or six interceptions
00:36:36They've been dropped
00:36:37By the Patriots defenders
00:36:38It's like pulling teeth
00:36:39Without an anesthesia
00:36:40It's very very painful
00:36:41But they're moving the football
00:36:44Second and four
00:36:46And you know who carries
00:36:47Probably for a first down
00:36:49As anyone else
00:36:50On top of him
00:36:51Is Nelson Nelson
00:36:52Excuse me Lenny
00:36:53Has anyone else tested football
00:36:54On this drive
00:36:55He's
00:36:56Yeah Farragamo in the center
00:36:59That's it
00:37:00How many plays
00:37:01Bell straight
00:37:02Six or seven straight plays
00:37:03Greg Bell's probably saying
00:37:04Joe Cribs where are you partner
00:37:06He's over on the sideline watching
00:37:09We'll get his shot
00:37:12First down
00:37:13Two minutes remaining
00:37:14Third quarter
00:37:15Buffalo out to the 47
00:37:17This drive began at the 11
00:37:19It's been all Greg Bell
00:37:21It's been all Greg Bell
00:37:28Not this time
00:37:29Ulysses Norris
00:37:30The tight end
00:37:31His first reception
00:37:32Inside the 40
00:37:42Still no official signal
00:37:46And finally
00:37:48Now you see why
00:37:49They didn't want to give the ball
00:37:50To anyone else
00:37:54So finally
00:37:55Someone other than Bell
00:37:56Touches it
00:37:57And he fumbles
00:37:58The Patriots get it back
00:38:00After two years
00:38:01The USFL
00:38:02Joe Cribs
00:38:03With over 4,000
00:38:04NFL rushing yards
00:38:06Hopes to make it back
00:38:07Next week
00:38:08First down for the Patriots
00:38:09At their 35
00:38:10Fryer in motion
00:38:13What a hit
00:38:16Guy Frazier
00:38:18Put a stick on Craig James
00:38:20In the backfield
00:38:21The Buffalo defense
00:38:22Rising here
00:38:24A three yard loss
00:38:26Good play by Frazier
00:38:27Who switched positions this week
00:38:28Mamas don't let your kids
00:38:29Grow up to be running backs
00:38:30In the National Football League
00:38:31Because you'll get hit like that
00:38:33And that hurts on a day
00:38:34That's cold as it is today
00:38:39Second and 13
00:38:40At the 32
00:38:42Just joining us
00:38:43Tony Eason
00:38:44Dislocated left shoulder
00:38:47Steve Brogan
00:38:48Backing a quarterback
00:38:49For New England
00:38:52Fryer's open
00:38:53Flag is down
00:38:56As Fryer's at midfield
00:38:57This may come back
00:38:58For a hold as well
00:39:02Under the category
00:39:03Of coaching gray hair
00:39:11Mother
00:39:12Don't let your boys
00:39:13Grow up to be head coaches
00:39:14Their hair will turn
00:39:15On statistics that read
00:39:17Seven turnovers
00:39:18Eight sacks
00:39:19And 17 penalties
00:39:21And we are still
00:39:22In the third quarter
00:39:23That's for both teams combined
00:39:25Steve Moore
00:39:27On the right
00:39:28Left side of your screen
00:39:29Number 67
00:39:30Gets flagged for this one
00:39:32Illegal use of the hands
00:39:33Which is holding
00:39:34Or whatever it is
00:39:35That they do
00:39:36That's illegal
00:39:37He was caught that time
00:39:39And now Brogan
00:39:40Faces second and 23
00:39:42From the 22
00:39:47Good field
00:39:51Stanley Morgan is all alone
00:39:53So is Craig James
00:39:54To the 35
00:39:56No flag is down
00:39:57But far short of a first down
00:39:59They need the 44
00:40:00A pickup of 13
00:40:02Eugene Marv covering
00:40:03And I think this is
00:40:04Excellent to see a
00:40:05Guy like
00:40:07Steve Brogan come in
00:40:08And play this kind of football
00:40:09You know they have
00:40:10Relief pitches in baseball
00:40:11Why not have them in football
00:40:12It works
00:40:13Watch 14
00:40:14Looking around
00:40:15That's right
00:40:16That's one of his assets
00:40:17Being able to move
00:40:18And throw on the run
00:40:19Craig James
00:40:20Comfortable right there
00:40:21On the sideline
00:40:22Picked up a spot
00:40:23Eugene Marv with the hit
00:40:25Brogan now facing
00:40:26Third and 10
00:40:30Six defensive backs
00:40:31In for the Bills
00:40:33Four man front
00:40:34Let's see if they get a rush
00:40:35On Brogan out of the shotgun
00:40:37They're looking like
00:40:38They're blitzing
00:40:40Plenty of time
00:40:42Coming back for the ball
00:40:43Is Stanley Morgan
00:40:45But did he come back
00:40:46A bit too far
00:40:47Let's see where they place it
00:40:49He may be shy
00:40:50Of the first down
00:40:53And the crowd
00:40:54If he is short
00:40:55Wants him to go for it
00:40:57I believe I have to go for this
00:40:58If I were Raymond Berry
00:40:59At this point
00:41:00You used to say that
00:41:01As a player all the time
00:41:02However
00:41:03The Patriots are going
00:41:04To punt it away
00:41:05With a four point lead
00:41:06I'll tell you
00:41:07It's barely the length
00:41:08Of a football
00:41:09Required for the first down
00:41:11I'll never forget
00:41:12Entering the Patriots
00:41:13Locker room in the mid 70's
00:41:14And interviewing
00:41:15A Patriots receiver
00:41:16By the name of Reggie Rucker
00:41:17Who said
00:41:18They should have gone for it
00:41:19We shouldn't have picked
00:41:20We should have gone for it
00:41:21Reggie was always outspoken
00:41:22That's the end
00:41:23Of the third quarter
00:41:24Patriots seven
00:41:25Bills three
00:41:26We'll be back
00:41:27To Sullivan Stadium
00:41:28In Foxborough
00:41:29After these words
00:41:30From the 11th station
00:41:31Patriots should go for it
00:41:32On fourth and short
00:41:33But Raymond Berry
00:41:34Is Mr. Conservative
00:41:35And I don't have to answer
00:41:36To Billy Sullivan
00:41:37The Patriots owner
00:41:39He may not be owner
00:41:40For that long
00:41:41There's talk he'd like
00:41:42To sell the club
00:41:43But some people
00:41:44Have expressed interest
00:41:45Camarillo
00:41:46Beautiful punt
00:41:47But he does not
00:41:48Get the corner
00:41:49If indeed
00:41:50He was aiming for it
00:41:51It is a touchback
00:41:52Vince Ferragamo
00:41:53And Buffalo
00:41:54Will start at the 20
00:41:55As we start
00:41:56The fourth quarter
00:41:57In Foxborough
00:41:58And I wonder if
00:41:59Because of the fumble
00:42:00By Ulysses Norris
00:42:01On the last possession
00:42:02He'll become
00:42:03Even that much
00:42:04More concerned
00:42:05With someone else
00:42:06Handling the ball
00:42:07Than Greg Bell
00:42:09Buffalo with just
00:42:10136 total yards
00:42:12To 63 yards rushing
00:42:13They are last
00:42:14In the NFL
00:42:15In that category
00:42:16And even though
00:42:17They gained more yardage
00:42:18Than New England
00:42:19When they lost
00:42:20Three weeks ago
00:42:21Now the Patriots
00:42:22Have the edge
00:42:23This time around
00:42:25I was going to say
00:42:26That if you hand the ball
00:42:27To Bell, Bell, Bell
00:42:28It becomes the gong show
00:42:29But the guys in the booth
00:42:30Said I shouldn't use
00:42:31That long
00:42:32And you did
00:42:33Ferragamo
00:42:35Not looking for Bell
00:42:36For Burkett
00:42:38A flag is down
00:42:39Interference
00:42:40Will go against
00:42:41Ronnie Lippitt
00:42:42A big first down
00:42:43For Buffalo
00:42:44If indeed
00:42:45It's against
00:42:46The defense
00:42:47Which I believe it is
00:42:54Interference
00:42:55Defense
00:42:56Number 42
00:42:57First down
00:42:58From the spot on the foul
00:42:59Second time today
00:43:00Against Ronnie Lippitt
00:43:01The question is
00:43:02Why
00:43:03He appeared to have
00:43:04Excellent position
00:43:05Third time today
00:43:06For Ronnie Lippitt
00:43:07So that amounts to a
00:43:0828 yard penalty
00:43:13We've had a flag festival
00:43:1418 so far
00:43:16Still a full quarter to go
00:43:17Here's Greg Bell
00:43:18Tripped up
00:43:19In the backfield
00:43:20Struggles ahead
00:43:21For a few yards
00:43:22But the rookie
00:43:23From Stanford
00:43:24Garen Vares
00:43:25Got in the backfield quickly
00:43:29All right let's check out
00:43:30NFL 85
00:43:31Maybe Bill McIntyre
00:43:32Has another Dallas highlight
00:43:33You got it Lenny
00:43:34The Cowboys have just
00:43:35Added to their lead
00:43:36Against Pittsburgh
00:43:37Eugene Lockhart
00:43:38Will step in front of
00:43:39The David Woodley pass
00:43:40Woodley had replaced
00:43:41Mark Malone
00:43:42And the middle linebacker
00:43:43Goes 19 yards
00:43:44For the touchdown
00:43:45Just into the 4th quarter
00:43:46It is 20 to 3 Dallas
00:43:50Hank Buller
00:43:51Always known for making
00:43:52Adjustments during the game
00:43:53Making one now
00:43:54Boy those Cowboys
00:43:55Putting on a showdown
00:43:56In Texas
00:43:57Ferragamo
00:43:58With the first
00:43:59Touchdown
00:44:00The Cowboys
00:44:01Putting on a showdown
00:44:02In Texas
00:44:03Ferragamo
00:44:04Had his man
00:44:05Just couldn't connect
00:44:06With Pete Metzelaars
00:44:07The former Seattle Seahawk
00:44:09And this will be
00:44:10Second down
00:44:11Here comes Metzelaars
00:44:12From Wabash
00:44:13College
00:44:14He is 6 feet
00:44:158 inches tall
00:44:16And still holds
00:44:17A lot of NCAA
00:44:18Small college
00:44:19Records in basketball
00:44:22Hoopster
00:44:23Some small college
00:44:24Players here
00:44:25Of course
00:44:26The rookie
00:44:27Andre Reid
00:44:28From Kutztown State
00:44:29In Pennsylvania
00:44:30In Wabash
00:44:31You do not have to
00:44:32Always go to Nebraska
00:44:33Or
00:44:34Auburn
00:44:35Or
00:44:36TCU
00:44:37You know Scott Norwitz
00:44:38From James Madison
00:44:39If you go to those schools
00:44:40You're likely to get
00:44:41More money
00:44:42Before or after
00:44:45Ferragamo
00:44:46Throwing
00:44:48Throwing nowhere
00:44:49Overthrowing
00:44:50Ulysses Norris
00:44:51Who was watched by
00:44:52Ronnie Lippitt
00:44:53On the near side
00:44:54Ferragamo
00:44:55Just shaking his head
00:44:56As it's
00:44:57The only gain he had
00:44:58In that little series
00:44:59Was the pass interference
00:45:00Call against Lippitt
00:45:01So now
00:45:02Kidd will punt
00:45:03Yet
00:45:04The Bills have had
00:45:05An inordinate number
00:45:06Of opportunities
00:45:07To score points
00:45:08In this football game
00:45:09And to get field position
00:45:10But every time
00:45:11They have gotten a break
00:45:12They have not been able
00:45:13To capitalize
00:45:15John Kidd
00:45:16Will now punt
00:45:17For a 7th time
00:45:19He's earning his keep
00:45:20Today
00:45:21He's from Northwestern
00:45:24Fryer
00:45:25Again takes it
00:45:26With some daylight
00:45:27Second time he's done that
00:45:28So
00:45:29A 38 yard punt
00:45:30No return
00:45:31John Kidd does his job
00:45:33Patriots get the ball back
00:45:35Foliage weekend
00:45:36In New England
00:45:3813.50
00:45:39Remaining
00:45:40In the regulation time
00:45:41To Stanley Morgan
00:45:43Morgan to the 30
00:45:44And loses his helmet as well
00:45:5017 yard pickup
00:45:53The rain is misting
00:45:55A slight wind
00:45:56To the back
00:45:57Of Steve Grogan
00:45:58And the Patriots
00:46:00And I was mentioning
00:46:01The leaves turning colors
00:46:02But during this football game
00:46:03Just about the only thing
00:46:04Falling are penalty flags
00:46:06Loose balls
00:46:07And interceptions
00:46:08We've had lots of those
00:46:09But
00:46:10One long drive
00:46:11In the temperature
00:46:12In the mid 40's Rich
00:46:15First down at the 30 now
00:46:16Patriots lead at 7-3
00:46:21Grogan
00:46:22To Tutupu
00:46:24It's the Patriots
00:46:25It's the Patriot offensive
00:46:26Bowl
00:46:28Engineered
00:46:29By the old man
00:46:30Steve Grogan
00:46:32There may be some things
00:46:33That Steve Grogan
00:46:34Lacks at this point
00:46:35In his
00:46:36Football career
00:46:37But the one thing he has
00:46:38Is the experience
00:46:39That's necessary
00:46:40In a football game
00:46:41Like this
00:46:42The Bills got caught
00:46:43In a blitz that time
00:46:44And Grogan got rid of
00:46:45The football
00:46:46Football very quickly
00:46:47Now watch
00:46:48Coming from both sides
00:46:49The blitz
00:46:51And there's Mosey
00:46:52To Tutupu
00:46:53Right in position
00:46:54To catch the ball
00:46:55And take it down
00:46:56The sideline
00:46:57It's funny to call
00:46:58A 32 year old player
00:46:59An old man
00:47:00But
00:47:01Many felt with
00:47:02Eason taking over
00:47:03We'd seen the last
00:47:04Of Steve Grogan
00:47:05Grogan has other ideas
00:47:06As his
00:47:07Backfield mates
00:47:08Do a tango
00:47:13Oh
00:47:15Irving Fryer
00:47:17I thought the ball
00:47:18Was overthrown
00:47:19Maybe he was going
00:47:20To Fryer in the first place
00:47:22It looked like
00:47:23He was going
00:47:24To Tony Collins
00:47:26I thought he was going
00:47:27To the short receiver
00:47:28Right
00:47:29That's right
00:47:30But Fryer's flyers
00:47:31Are happy
00:47:32One thing you don't do
00:47:33Is jump up in the air
00:47:34And leave your legs
00:47:35Behind you
00:47:37When you reach
00:47:38For a pass like this
00:47:39You have to bring
00:47:40Your legs up
00:47:41So that you don't
00:47:42Take this kind of hit
00:47:43Who's he going to
00:47:44I believe he's going
00:47:45To Tony Collins
00:47:46But
00:47:47Fryer was in
00:47:48A propitious position
00:47:50He was in a good position
00:47:51As well
00:47:52First down
00:47:53At the 35
00:47:54Fryer in motion
00:47:55Here come Grogan
00:47:56And the Patriots again
00:47:57The pitch back
00:47:58To Tony Collins
00:48:01And dragged down
00:48:02By Martin Bayless
00:48:03Coming up from his
00:48:04Free safety position
00:48:06That play doesn't
00:48:07Happen too often
00:48:08You know
00:48:09Throwing to one guy
00:48:10And another one
00:48:11Catches the football
00:48:12All right
00:48:13Let's run down
00:48:14All the scores now Reggie
00:48:15Lots of action
00:48:16In the early games
00:48:17In the National Football League
00:48:18This afternoon
00:48:19As Bill McAtee told us
00:48:20Dallas
00:48:21Denver
00:48:2220 to 6 now
00:48:24Denver missed
00:48:25An extra point
00:48:26That's not 4 field goals
00:48:2712-3 over Indianapolis
00:48:29It's become a game
00:48:30Cincinnati had
00:48:31Led 21-0
00:48:32They lead the Giants
00:48:3328-20
00:48:39This is 2nd
00:48:40And 8
00:48:41At the 33
00:48:42For Grogan
00:48:46All alone
00:48:47Collins open
00:48:48Short of a first down
00:48:49Bayless
00:48:50On the tackle
00:48:52This will set up
00:48:533rd and short
00:48:5510 and a half minutes
00:48:56Remain in regulation time
00:48:57The Patriots
00:48:58With the ball
00:48:59And a 7-3 lead
00:49:11The interesting aspect
00:49:12Here is that since
00:49:13Grogan's the man
00:49:14Who's signal plays
00:49:15To Eason
00:49:16There's nobody left
00:49:17To signal Grogan
00:49:18He is calling his own plays
00:49:19And calling a fine game
00:49:23Maybe he's calling
00:49:24A better game
00:49:25In the 2nd half
00:49:26Than the coaches
00:49:27Called in the 1st half
00:49:29Good point Reggie
00:49:303rd and 3
00:49:31The crowd comes to life
00:49:36Showing his mobility
00:49:38Ooh a hit
00:49:39And an interference call
00:49:41And it goes against Freeman
00:49:46That's the worst place
00:49:47Like a Rydell helmet
00:49:48Is in the back
00:49:49Standing straight up
00:49:55Interference
00:49:56Offense
00:49:57From the 33
00:49:58It went the other way
00:49:59It had to happen
00:50:00Before the ball was thrown
00:50:01At some point
00:50:02Had to
00:50:04I saw Freeman
00:50:05Acting frustrated
00:50:06He thought it was
00:50:07Against him
00:50:08It goes against the offense
00:50:09Left side of the screen
00:50:10Let's see if we can see
00:50:11It pushing off
00:50:12By the receiver
00:50:13Ooh
00:50:14Well look at
00:50:15You can't throw a block
00:50:16That was the call
00:50:17To the right of your screen
00:50:18That's it
00:50:19You cannot throw a block
00:50:20On a pass play
00:50:21Before the ball
00:50:22Leaves the passer's hand
00:50:27They're booing
00:50:28But the crowd
00:50:29Did not see
00:50:30What our replay showed us
00:50:31It was not where
00:50:32The ball was intended
00:50:33It was away from the ball
00:50:34Tony Collins
00:50:35Threw the block
00:50:36I believe
00:50:37On Burroughs
00:50:42Here it is once again
00:50:43Left side of the screen
00:50:44Watch it
00:50:45Right about
00:50:48Here
00:50:49You'll see a block
00:50:51That's illegal
00:50:52You cannot throw a block
00:50:53On a man down field
00:50:54Before the ball is left
00:50:55To the passer's hand
00:50:58Brogan from the shotgun
00:50:59Now it's 3rd and 13
00:51:00At the 38
00:51:07Throwing for Cedric Jones
00:51:10Incomplete on the far side
00:51:11With Rod Hill covering
00:51:14Someone ran the wrong pattern
00:51:15There were two receivers
00:51:16In the flight path
00:51:18Of the football
00:51:19And that means
00:51:20Somebody had a man over there
00:51:21That shouldn't have been there
00:51:24So as the result
00:51:25Of yet another
00:51:26Costly penalty
00:51:27For the Patriots
00:51:28This sets up
00:51:294th down
00:51:30For Raymond Burry's team
00:51:34And Camarillo
00:51:35Will come on
00:51:37If they had tried
00:51:38A field goal
00:51:39It would have been
00:51:40A 55 yard attempt
00:51:41With a slight trail
00:51:42And win
00:51:43It was impossible
00:51:44For Tony Franklin
00:51:45But instead
00:51:46They opt to punt
00:51:49Camarillo goes
00:51:50For the corner
00:51:52Beautiful
00:51:53He gets it
00:51:55The official keeps
00:51:56Walking up
00:51:57He's going to mark it
00:51:58Between the 8 and 9 yard lines
00:52:01So Buffalo
00:52:02Will be pinned
00:52:03Inside the 10
00:52:049-39
00:52:05Remaining in the 4th quarter
00:52:06Buffalo's ball
00:52:07Down 4
00:52:10Last year
00:52:11Reggie here
00:52:12In Foxborough
00:52:13The Patriots beat the Bills
00:52:1438-10
00:52:15Buffalo went 0-11
00:52:16At the time
00:52:17And I speculated
00:52:18They wouldn't win
00:52:19A game all year
00:52:20Well
00:52:21It took about 6 days
00:52:22They went home
00:52:23And beat the Dallas Cowboys
00:52:24At home
00:52:25For their first win
00:52:26Last year
00:52:27And a big play
00:52:28By this man
00:52:29Greg Bell
00:52:30On the opening play
00:52:31With 85 yards
00:52:32This time
00:52:33He will not go down
00:52:34Picks up 5-6 yards
00:52:35Before Fred Marion
00:52:36Drags him down
00:52:37That's the thing
00:52:38About Bell
00:52:39That belies his size
00:52:40And speed
00:52:41Uh
00:52:42Abilities
00:52:43He's very strong
00:52:44From tackle to tackle
00:52:47Well if they give it to Bell
00:52:4813 or 14 straight times
00:52:50They can use the 9 minutes
00:52:51And maybe score
00:52:52But that seems to be
00:52:53Their only hope
00:52:54The way the offense is going
00:52:55They don't have too many
00:52:56Other big plays
00:52:57Well and it's easier
00:52:58Just to turn around
00:52:59And hand in the ball
00:53:00Because they can't throw it
00:53:01Second and 2
00:53:02At the 7-10
00:53:03Norris in motion
00:53:06There's Bell
00:53:08Gets away from trouble
00:53:10Fine move by Greg Bell
00:53:12For a first down
00:53:14The play will only go
00:53:15As a 3 or 4 yard pickup
00:53:17But he did some yeoman work
00:53:18To get it
00:53:19Out of Columbus, Ohio
00:53:20And Notre Dame
00:53:22The first Notre Dame runner
00:53:23Ever to gain a thousand yards
00:53:25In his rookie year
00:53:27He is just an extraordinary player
00:53:29He has very good feet
00:53:30Good vision
00:53:31As you see him
00:53:32Cutting back
00:53:33And darting back
00:53:34And then as I said before
00:53:35He's such a strong player
00:53:37Bill's fans said
00:53:38It was a mistake
00:53:39When Buffalo chose him
00:53:40As the number one pick
00:53:41Last year
00:53:42They're not saying that anymore
00:53:43First down Buffalo
00:53:44At their 22
00:53:47Intercepted
00:53:50Claiborne
00:53:51Touchdown Raymond Claiborne
00:54:07He is the touchdown maker
00:54:08On this defense
00:54:09They weren't throwing
00:54:10In his area
00:54:11So he said
00:54:12Hey
00:54:13I gotta go over here
00:54:14And get a ball
00:54:15And pick it off
00:54:16To make a big play
00:54:17Defensively
00:54:18He has been doing this
00:54:19Week after week
00:54:20After week
00:54:21For the New England
00:54:22Patriots
00:54:23He did it last week
00:54:24Stepped out of bounds
00:54:25This time
00:54:26He gets the touchdown
00:54:27It's a touchdown
00:54:28For the New England
00:54:29Patriots
00:54:30It's a touchdown
00:54:31For the New England
00:54:32Patriots
00:54:33It's a touchdown
00:54:34For the New England
00:54:35Patriots
00:54:36It's a touchdown
00:54:37Today
00:54:38A club record
00:54:39111th consecutive start
00:54:40Caps it off
00:54:41With an interception
00:54:42For a touchdown
00:54:43And the Patriots
00:54:44Try to make it
00:54:4514-3
00:54:46With a Tony Franklin kick
00:54:47Number 26
00:54:48Returned to 26 yards
00:54:51And Franklin's
00:54:52Extra point attempt
00:54:53Is good
00:54:54So
00:54:55The big defensive play
00:54:56They've done it
00:54:57Week in
00:54:58Week out
00:54:59A big uphill road
00:55:00For Hank Bulla
00:55:01The Patriots
00:55:02By 11
00:55:03They are not
00:55:04The bad news Bears
00:55:05But today
00:55:06It's been the bad news
00:55:07Bills and Patriots
00:55:08Eight turnovers
00:55:09Eight sacks
00:55:10Eighteen penalties
00:55:11Raymond Claiborne
00:55:12The man on the turnover
00:55:13For the touchdown
00:55:14The kickoff
00:55:15To Donald Wilson
00:55:16Can the Bills come back
00:55:19Wilson
00:55:20Breaks it out
00:55:21To the 33
00:55:24Now for an update
00:55:25One more time
00:55:26Let's go to Bill McAtee
00:55:27NFL 85
00:55:29Alright Len
00:55:30The Browns have come
00:55:31Roaring back
00:55:32In the second half
00:55:33They're on the road again
00:55:34Bernie Kosar
00:55:35Has settled in
00:55:36Here's the play
00:55:37That set up
00:55:38The latest touchdown
00:55:39Kosar to Clarence Weathers
00:55:40Weathers covers
00:55:4157 yards
00:55:42This sets up
00:55:43Ernest Biner's
00:55:44Five yard touchdown run
00:55:4521-6 Cleveland
00:55:48So the Browns
00:55:49Who
00:55:50Is having a big day
00:55:51They beat the Patriots
00:55:52Last week
00:55:53Trying to do it
00:55:54To Houston now
00:55:55First down for Buffalo
00:55:56At the 33
00:55:57Eight minutes remain
00:56:01There it is
00:56:02Jerry Butler
00:56:03It is the first time
00:56:04He's hit Butler today
00:56:05Lippitt covering
00:56:06If you're going to throw
00:56:07The ball to the outside
00:56:08That's the way
00:56:09You have to throw it
00:56:10You've got to put the ball
00:56:11Out there with some velocity
00:56:12And with some
00:56:13Zip on it
00:56:14Now the pass
00:56:15That he threw
00:56:16A few plays back
00:56:17That Claiborne picked off
00:56:18And ran in for a touchdown
00:56:19Was a slowly thrown
00:56:20Football
00:56:23Ferragamo
00:56:24You saw
00:56:25Was checking out
00:56:26His wrist
00:56:27Looking for a play
00:56:29That was the first
00:56:30Completion to Jerry Butler
00:56:31First down now
00:56:32At the 45
00:56:34He'll need a few more
00:56:36In trouble
00:56:37The pressure
00:56:38Ferragamo went down
00:56:39So did his receiver
00:56:41Ferris was pressuring him
00:56:42As was
00:56:43Kenneth Sims
00:56:46With no disrespect
00:56:47For Raymond Claiborne
00:56:50The play before
00:56:51That may have broken
00:56:52This game over
00:56:5323 career interceptions
00:56:56But his first career touchdown
00:56:58For the nine year veteran
00:57:00Out of Texas
00:57:01Raymond Claiborne
00:57:02Came into the league
00:57:03With nine four speed
00:57:04And a hundred yard dash
00:57:06Very quick cornerback
00:57:12Second and ten at the 45
00:57:14Bills need a big play
00:57:16Drop play
00:57:17Greg Bell
00:57:19They spelled that one out
00:57:21Steve Nelson
00:57:23The veteran
00:57:24From North Dakota State
00:57:25Was the man who stopped him
00:57:26The point I was going to make
00:57:27Lynn a few minutes ago
00:57:28Was that
00:57:29With no disrespect
00:57:30To Vince Ferragamo
00:57:31Because he has his problems
00:57:32And
00:57:33The entire Buffalo Bills
00:57:34Offense
00:57:35Has been having problems
00:57:36All year long
00:57:37But I think the future
00:57:38Of the Buffalo Bills
00:57:39And their quarterback
00:57:40Situation
00:57:41Has to lie
00:57:42In the
00:57:43Future
00:57:44Of Jim Kelly
00:57:45Who is now playing
00:57:46In the USFL
00:57:47They've gotten Cribs
00:57:48Out of that league
00:57:49I think their next priority
00:57:50Is to get Jim Kelly
00:57:52At quarterback
00:57:53They deny there have been
00:57:54Any discussions
00:57:55Despite the fact that
00:57:56Discussions have been rumored
00:57:57Shotgun
00:57:583rd and 11th
00:58:01Receiver went down
00:58:02It was intended for
00:58:03Jerry Butler
00:58:04Might have slipped
00:58:05Looking around for a flag
00:58:06There is none
00:58:08Jerry Butler
00:58:09Who has caught
00:58:10Just one pass today
00:58:12Let's see if we can
00:58:13Pick it out
00:58:14Look at the close contact
00:58:15And the close coverage
00:58:16Of Raymond Claiborne
00:58:18But the rule this year
00:58:19If you're both looking
00:58:20At the ball
00:58:21No flag
00:58:22And they both were
00:58:23Looking back
00:58:24Ferragamo today
00:58:25Just 10 of 29
00:58:26100 yards
00:58:27Two interceptions
00:58:28He is the last
00:58:29Rated quarterback
00:58:30In the AFC
00:58:31And those stats
00:58:32Will not improve
00:58:39John Kidd
00:58:40To punt yet again
00:58:41To Irving Fryer
00:58:44High kick
00:58:49This time
00:58:50Fryer in traffic
00:58:51Catches it
00:58:52Two times
00:58:53When he was wide open
00:58:54He called for a fair catch
00:58:56So
00:58:57Buffalo Special Teams
00:59:00And John Kidd
00:59:01A 40 yard punt
00:59:02This telecast

00:59:156.53 left
00:59:17In the fourth quarter
00:59:19The Patriots lead
00:59:2014 to 3
00:59:21Each week
00:59:22A big touchdown
00:59:23Turned in by the defense
00:59:24The offense still
00:59:26One touchdown per game
00:59:27Over the last five
00:59:32First down
00:59:33At the 17
00:59:37Craig James
00:59:38He eludes
00:59:39Bruce Smith
00:59:48Let's see
00:59:49Were they on tangle?
00:59:53Smith came back
00:59:55Made the play
00:59:57Jesse James
00:59:58This is his real name
00:59:59If you can believe that
01:00:00They have a fan club for him
01:00:01The James Gang
01:00:02Appropriately enough
01:00:03And of course
01:00:04Right now
01:00:05The opponent of the
01:00:06New England Patriots
01:00:07Is no longer the
01:00:08Buffalo Bills
01:00:09But the clock
01:00:12Second and eight
01:00:13At the 19
01:00:21He has time
01:00:22He has Craig James
01:00:23But short of a
01:00:24First down
01:00:25At the 26
01:00:27The clock continues to run
01:00:28Six minutes left
01:00:29Of course
01:00:30Craig James from
01:00:31SMU
01:00:32And that pony backfield
01:00:33With
01:00:34Eric Dickerson
01:00:36There's a player down
01:00:37It's Guy Frazier
01:00:38Jim Haslett was also
01:00:39Slow getting up
01:00:43Frazier just rolled over
01:00:44Onto his stomach
01:00:45There are a lot of things
01:00:46That run through your mind
01:00:47During a time like that
01:00:48Cincinnati has stretched
01:00:49Open their lead again
01:00:5135-20
01:00:52Tampa Bay
01:00:53Trying to do it
01:00:54They are also 0-5
01:00:55Trying to
01:00:56Beat undefeated
01:00:57Los Angeles
01:00:58Cleveland
01:00:5921-6
01:01:00On that earnest
01:01:01Minor run that we showed you
01:01:02A short while ago
01:01:03John Riggins
01:01:04Three touchdown runs
01:01:05The Redskins
01:01:06Are now back to
01:01:07500
01:01:09As they defeated the Lions
01:01:10Lions also
01:01:11To 500
01:01:12Minnesota another
01:01:13Close football game
01:01:14But Grant last week
01:01:15Decided to run for it
01:01:16On fourth down
01:01:17Lost the game
01:01:18Philadelphia
01:01:19Big over St. Louis
01:01:20That's a mild surprise
01:01:21Philadelphia started
01:01:22The day 1-4
01:01:26St. Louis was 3-2
01:01:27And now
01:01:28Frazier comes off
01:01:33Steve Grogan
01:01:35Has statistics today
01:01:36That remind you
01:01:37Of the good old days
01:01:38For the Patriots
01:01:39In the mid-70s
01:01:40He has 13-17
01:01:41235 yards
01:01:43One touchdown
01:01:44Including
01:01:45That long 80-yard drive
01:01:46To start off
01:01:47The third quarter
01:01:48When Tony Eason
01:01:49Went down
01:01:51With the shoulder separation
01:01:53Late in the first half
01:01:55Third down and short
01:01:58Greg Hawthorne
01:01:59In motion
01:02:01There's their
01:02:02Short down yardage man
01:02:03Tatupu
01:02:04Fights out to the 35
01:02:14OK this has really been
01:02:15One of the key plays
01:02:16To the offense
01:02:17In the second half
01:02:18It's been the charges of
01:02:19Mostly to Tatupu
01:02:20Straight ahead
01:02:21And a good drive
01:02:22Blocking by
01:02:23The entire
01:02:24New England Patriots
01:02:25Offensive line
01:02:26That's Brock
01:02:28Hannah
01:02:29Wooten
01:02:30Holloway
01:02:31And more
01:02:34First down at the 35
01:02:35Inside of five minutes now
01:02:36Weathers
01:02:37And James
01:02:38Now the back
01:02:39All that business about
01:02:40Who would start in the backfield
01:02:41Raymond Burries used
01:02:42All four of them
01:02:44And Hawthorne
01:02:45To make five at times
01:02:47All over the middle
01:02:48Good touch pass
01:02:49To Irving Fryer
01:02:52Another Patriots
01:02:53First down
01:02:54And it was the
01:02:55Soft touch
01:02:56Of Steve Brogan
01:02:57That time
01:02:58Not hurrying it
01:02:59A 22 yard pickup
01:03:01We're seeing the
01:03:02Coming of age
01:03:03Of a very talented
01:03:04Football player
01:03:05Irving Fryer
01:03:06The very first pick
01:03:07In all of the draft
01:03:08A couple of years ago
01:03:09Look at the good touch
01:03:10As Lynn Berman
01:03:11Described to you
01:03:12Puts the ball in there softly
01:03:14And Irving Fryer
01:03:15Is beginning to
01:03:16Wake up
01:03:17I thought you were going to say
01:03:18The coming of age
01:03:19Of 32 year old
01:03:20Steve Brogan
01:03:22When Tony Eason gets healthy
01:03:23There will be a quarterback
01:03:24Controversy in New England
01:03:25I guarantee you
01:03:26First down at the 43
01:03:27Of Buffalo
01:03:35Weathers
01:03:38To the 40
01:03:39Maybe the 39
01:03:40Before Eugene Marr
01:03:41More importantly
01:03:42For New England
01:03:43All the way down
01:03:44To 342 left
01:03:46In the fourth quarter
01:03:48Buffalo had
01:03:49Their first half time
01:03:50Lead of the year
01:03:513-0 at half time
01:03:54Too bad it didn't get
01:03:55Rained out for the Bills
01:03:56At that point
01:03:57The Patriots
01:03:58Have owned the second half
01:03:59This has been like the
01:04:00Big kid on the block
01:04:01Toying with the little kid
01:04:02On the block
01:04:03For a couple of days
01:04:04And then finally saying
01:04:05Hey kid I'm going to squash you
01:04:06In one blow
01:04:10Second down and 5
01:04:11At the 39
01:04:15Weathers
01:04:20Weathers
01:04:21The Sanford
01:04:22Flew by
01:04:23Bellinger misses the tackle
01:04:25Finally brought down
01:04:26By Martin Bayless
01:04:28Short of a first down
01:04:30But he stayed in bounds
01:04:31And the clock rolls
01:04:32With 256 remaining
01:04:35Robert Weathers
01:04:36Is the brother of Clarence Weathers
01:04:37Who's having a
01:04:38Fantastic day
01:04:39Down in Houston
01:04:40Right
01:04:41Formerly played
01:04:42For the New England Patriots
01:04:45That's what we all need
01:04:51So this will be
01:04:52Third down and 2
01:04:53For the Patriots
01:04:55At their
01:04:56Buffalo 35
01:04:58You call it Lynn
01:05:00Go straight ahead
01:05:01And keep it simple
01:05:02And let the clock run down
01:05:03To the 2 minute warning
01:05:05Tutupu isn't in the game
01:05:06By the way
01:05:09Give it to Weathers now
01:05:15Fake to Weathers
01:05:16And throw it
01:05:18And complete it
01:05:19To Craig James
01:05:21Inside the 10
01:05:26The ball is down
01:05:27Patriots have it
01:05:29At the Buffalo 9
01:05:31The 2 minute warning
01:05:32A 27 yard pickup
01:05:34It's been a second half
01:05:35To remember
01:05:36For Steve Grogan
01:05:37And the Patriots
01:05:39Two minutes left
01:05:40In regulation
01:05:41The Patriots lead by 11
01:05:42Knocking on the door
01:05:45There's a double fake
01:05:46On this play
01:05:47Play action to Weathers
01:05:48The fake reverse
01:05:49To Irving Fryer
01:05:50And the pass out
01:05:51To Craig James
01:05:52Here's what's good about this
01:05:53One
01:05:54Professional teams
01:05:55Don't run enough plays
01:05:56That they're successful with
01:05:57It's good
01:05:58Raymond Berry comes back
01:05:59With a play that he was
01:06:00Successful with
01:06:01Earlier
01:06:03There's Grogan
01:06:04With the fake
01:06:05And throws the ball
01:06:06Nicely to James
01:06:07And Talley just can't
01:06:08Keep up with James
01:06:09He's not fast enough
01:06:10And ruled down
01:06:11Before the ball
01:06:12Popped loose
01:06:14Craig James
01:06:15Limped off
01:06:17Derek Burrows
01:06:18On the near side
01:06:19Is limping off
01:06:20The talented rookie
01:06:21Cornerback
01:06:22Who had a fine
01:06:23First half
01:06:24As well as an interception
01:06:25For the Buffalo Bills
01:06:26And you know what Lynn
01:06:27The game plan
01:06:28Of the New England Patriots
01:06:29Was to throw the football
01:06:30On first down
01:06:31And throw it deep
01:06:32They didn't make that
01:06:33Game plan work
01:06:34Until
01:06:36Steve Grogan
01:06:37Came into the football field
01:06:38And completed
01:06:39They've completed
01:06:4015 passes
01:06:41To their wide receivers today
01:06:42That must be
01:06:43A New England mark
01:06:44For the year
01:06:45Irving Fryer
01:06:46His first career
01:06:47100 yard game
01:06:486 passes
01:06:49132 yards
01:06:51Steve Grogan
01:06:52I remember when he came in
01:06:53As a youngster here
01:06:54It was the trade of
01:06:55Plunkett
01:06:56That gave Grogan
01:06:57His chance
01:06:58And was a good
01:06:59Scrambling young quarterback
01:07:00Helped mold those teams
01:07:01Of the early 70's
01:07:03Now he's getting
01:07:04His chance again
01:07:05As a 32 year old
01:07:06Old timer
01:07:07With the injury
01:07:09From 9
01:07:12Tony Collins
01:07:15Maybe a yard
01:07:18Martin Bayless
01:07:19On the tackle
01:07:20The Bills should start
01:07:21Calling timeout
01:07:22At this point
01:07:23Maybe they realize
01:07:24Their predicament
01:07:25They're letting it run
01:07:26A minute 45 to go
01:07:29Buffalo Bills staring
01:07:30At their 6th consecutive loss
01:07:33Raymond Burry staring
01:07:34At a 500 record
01:07:353 and 3
01:07:36An additional 4
01:07:37And 4 last year
01:07:38After replacing
01:07:39The fired Ron Meyer
01:07:41Buffalo didn't win
01:07:42In the preseason either
01:07:43They were 0-3 and 1
01:07:44So
01:07:45They're staring
01:07:46At a long dry spell
01:07:48And a particularly long
01:07:49Spell on the road
01:07:50This will be their
01:07:5112th consecutive road loss
01:07:52Dating back
01:07:53To December of 83
01:07:55In Kansas City
01:07:56No timeout called
01:07:58A Buffalo loss
01:08:03To Tupou
01:08:04Second chance
01:08:05To the 3
01:08:07Tupou
01:08:11Clock still running
01:08:12Inside of a minute
01:08:16They're just giving it
01:08:17To him, Reg
01:08:18I don't think that
01:08:20That's something that
01:08:21Hank Bulla
01:08:22As he becomes
01:08:23Acclimated
01:08:24And accustomed to
01:08:25The way the game
01:08:26Is running in
01:08:27National football
01:08:28He will start calling
01:08:29Timeout here
01:08:30Because you never simply
01:08:31Just give up and say
01:08:32Hey, run the clock out
01:08:33You call timeout
01:08:34And you battle until
01:08:35The game is over
01:08:37That's right
01:08:38A ball could fall on the ground
01:08:39One guy could pick it up
01:08:40And run all the way
01:08:41For a touchdown
01:08:4229 seconds to go
01:08:44Patriots hope
01:08:45To close it out
01:08:46With a score
01:08:47Mosi to Tupou
01:08:48Doesn't do it for them
01:08:49See, there's a ball
01:08:50On the ground
01:08:52Ho!
01:08:55That's it
01:08:56Tony Collins saves it
01:08:58And the clock continues
01:08:59To run
01:09:0010 seconds to go
01:09:02Now he's trying
01:09:03To call a timeout
01:09:07Amazing
01:09:09And timeout is taken
01:09:10With just
01:09:118 seconds remaining
01:09:12Amazing
01:09:13Steve Grogan
01:09:14At an 11 point lead
01:09:17A tale of two quarterbacks
01:09:19A long afternoon
01:09:20For Vince Ferragamo
01:09:21Once again
01:09:22For Steve Grogan
01:09:23308 total yards
01:09:24And they will kick
01:09:25A field goal
01:09:26Why, Rich?
01:09:27Tiebreakers
01:09:28When this thing comes down
01:09:29To the end of the season
01:09:30Tiebreakers may
01:09:31Be the difference
01:09:32Between one team
01:09:33Making the playoff
01:09:34And another
01:09:35And they miss it
01:09:36And Tony Franklin
01:09:37Misses the chip shot
01:09:38And maybe
01:09:39Fairness dictates
01:09:41With 4 seconds remaining
01:09:42That the Patriots
01:09:43Do not tag on
01:09:443 more points
01:09:45This has been such a
01:09:46Bizarre football game
01:09:49Franklin
01:09:50A very dependable
01:09:51Field goal kicker
01:09:52Just one miss
01:09:53And out of 47 yarder
01:09:54A week ago
01:09:55And Grogan
01:09:56The new holder
01:09:57Instead of Tony Eason
01:09:58Maybe
01:09:59That's the reason why
01:10:00The only blemish
01:10:01On Grogan's record
01:10:02This afternoon
01:10:03He's patted on the back
01:10:04By the Patriot
01:10:05Coaching staff
01:10:06So Buffalo will have
01:10:07One play
01:10:09And unless they have
01:10:10A 12 pointer
01:10:11Up their sleeves
01:10:13It will be 0 and 6
01:10:15It's the Big Ben play
01:10:19And it's pulled down
01:10:20By
01:10:21Andre Reid
01:10:22Out of bounds
01:10:23And that is it
01:10:24So the New England
01:10:25Patriots
01:10:26Defeat the Buffalo Bills
01:10:2714 to 3
01:10:29Steve Grogan
01:10:30The story
01:10:31Tony Eason injured
01:10:32The old veteran
01:10:33In fact
01:10:34He does it
01:10:35308 yards
01:10:36For Steve Grogan
01:10:37But a rugged
01:10:38Afternoon
01:10:39For
01:10:40Vince Ferragamo
01:10:41For Reggie Rucker
01:10:42I'm Len Berman
01:10:43Thanks for watching everybody
01:10:45Now
01:10:46Let's go to Dallas
01:10:47And we'll show you
01:10:48The conclusion
01:10:49Of the Steelers
01:10:50Cowboys game
01:10:51So long everyone
