00:00:00That ball at the last second and
00:00:01picking up every yard part is
00:00:03just under sixty five thousand
00:00:05here in Seattle.
00:00:06They haven't had a lot to yell
00:00:07about when Seahawks have had the
00:00:09ball seven three New England.
00:00:11They start from the thirty six
00:00:12after a thirty yard punt by
00:00:14Fenzer and his receiver Cedric
00:00:19Jones was not looking.
00:00:21He had looked off the defense
00:00:23and then tried to whirl and fire
00:00:24to the crossing wide receiver
00:00:26Jones.
00:00:27It'll be second and ten.
00:00:28Check this New England
00:00:31offensive line has really
00:00:32contained an explosive defensive
00:00:34line.
00:00:34Give you an idea of what this
00:00:36Seahawks defensive line did last
00:00:38week.
00:00:40Bryant had two sacks.
00:00:41Jacob Green had a nineteen yard
00:00:43touchdown for an interception.
00:00:45And Nash had a sack and a block
00:00:47field goal.
00:00:48They have not really been that
00:00:49impressive here today.
00:00:53Easley.
00:00:54And will there be a flag?
00:00:56No.
00:00:57The referee Mark Bright, his
00:00:59responsibility is to protect the
00:01:01quarterback.
00:01:01So his back is turned to the play.
00:01:04And while indeed Grogan may have
00:01:06just dumped that off, Mark Bright
00:01:07was not in a position to see it.
00:01:09But he was in the right position.
00:01:11He's got to do some good play
00:01:12acting on that.
00:01:13And he certainly did it.
00:01:14That was Jeff Bryant getting around
00:01:16Holloway on that play.
00:01:18It looked like Grogan again setting
00:01:20very deep.
00:01:21And that's something that he does
00:01:22that can get him in trouble is get
00:01:23way back there so that those
00:01:25offensive tackles, even if they
00:01:27push that defensive end around,
00:01:29can't get them back behind the
00:01:31quarterback.
00:01:31We saw the scores of all the other
00:01:34late games today.
00:01:35And here it's seven to three.
00:01:37Third and ten.
00:01:42Grogan has a man.
00:01:43No, he doesn't.
00:01:44Fryer was open, but he overshot him
00:01:46down at the 45.
00:01:47And there's one of the reasons why
00:01:49the pass was too long.
00:01:50The pressure.
00:01:52Now New England will have to punt it
00:01:54away.
00:01:55Chance to watch some of the movement
00:01:57by the Seattle defense.
00:01:58Kenny Easley, who had snuck all the
00:02:00way up into here, has now moved
00:02:02back on the outside.
00:02:03Here's Greg Gaines, the linebacker
00:02:05in those situations where they put
00:02:07the nickel and dime on the field.
00:02:09And watch it.
00:02:10Gaines will stay in.
00:02:11And at the last minute, he'll go in
00:02:13on the blitz.
00:02:14Grogan, feeling the pressure from
00:02:16the outside, had nowhere to go.
00:02:18Good coverage.
00:02:19Look at that excellent coverage by the
00:02:21Seattle defenders.
00:02:22Four on four.
00:02:24Camarillo averaged 44 a kick in the
00:02:27first half.
00:02:27He drills this one.
00:02:29Scansi at the 11.
00:02:3430.
00:02:36And finally wrapped up at the 37.
00:02:40Greg Hawthorne made the tackle.
00:02:42That's the second outstanding kick
00:02:44return by Scansi.
00:02:48Greg looks to the sidelines to get
00:02:50those signals from Harris.
00:02:51There go the big bulls into the game.
00:02:57Third and short.
00:02:57Two extra defensive linemen in.
00:02:59Fred Marion out.
00:03:01They'll stack big bodies along the
00:03:03line of scrimmage.
00:03:04You notice they waited until the play
00:03:06had been sent in from the sideline
00:03:07before they sent the substitutes in
00:03:09on defense.
00:03:09The Seahawks.
00:03:14Warner.
00:03:16Oh, what a play.
00:03:17Slashing in was Larry McGrew.
00:03:20One of the inside linebackers to drop
00:03:23Warner for a loss and for Seattle to
00:03:25go for a field goal.
00:03:27The Seahawks are one for two today.
00:03:30Tremendous play.
00:03:31McGrew and Roland James 38 in on the
00:03:33play.
00:03:33Any time you go sideways in short
00:03:36yardage you take some great risks
00:03:38because the runner does not have
00:03:40power.
00:03:41He's got to be square to the line of
00:03:42scrimmage.
00:03:43You see the celebration there as
00:03:44they really put the brakes on and
00:03:46another chance for a field goal by
00:03:48Seattle.
00:03:49But they were thinking touchdown
00:03:50not field goal.
00:03:5131 yards away if.
00:03:59Johnson's hit it.
00:04:02Oh, he's been from 31 and 32 yards
00:04:05after he missed earlier from 37.
00:04:08It's a one-point game.
00:04:11Brogan from his own 10-yard line.
00:04:26Minus two.
00:04:29For Tony Collins.
00:04:32Now let's go to NFL 85.
00:04:35The Rams lose for the third straight
00:04:37week.
00:04:38San Francisco trying to catch Los
00:04:41Angeles after that 8-0 start.
00:04:46Appears to be Irving Fryer that is
00:04:48injured.
00:04:51We at NBC Sports would like to wish
00:04:54one of our engineers well on his
00:04:56retirement.
00:04:56Tony Nell.
00:04:57Tony's been a joy to be around and
00:04:59his great talent will be missed by
00:05:02all of us.
00:05:03Tony, you tuck that football away and
00:05:05may it take you to a lot of rainbows
00:05:08and sunsets.
00:05:10Next week, New England and the New
00:05:13York Jets.
00:05:14Will that be a battle for sole
00:05:15possession of first place?
00:05:17Miami, meanwhile, will be at
00:05:18Buffalo.
00:05:19San Diego plays Houston and
00:05:20Cincinnati and Cleveland battle in
00:05:23that AFC Central.
00:05:24Those are the early games.
00:05:27Late action features Denver at Los
00:05:29Angeles and Indianapolis will play
00:05:32Kansas City.
00:05:34While we still have a second deck,
00:05:36maybe we can go back and look at that
00:05:37statistic that we flashed up just
00:05:39briefly for you regarding the kind
00:05:43of resurgence that the Seahawks
00:05:44defense has had.
00:05:45Early in the year, they were having
00:05:48some problems.
00:05:49They were making some mistakes.
00:05:51There are the numbers.
00:05:52They were averaging, giving up 28.2
00:05:55per game in the first six games.
00:05:57But look what they have been able to
00:05:59do in the last four games, giving up
00:06:01just nine points a game.
00:06:02And, of course, have only given up a
00:06:04touchdown so far here in this game.
00:06:05They just stopped New England on the
00:06:17kickoff return at the 10 and on
00:06:19first down, a loss of two.
00:06:22Seven minutes remaining in the third
00:06:24quarter.
00:06:24Tony Collins out to the 12-yard line.
00:06:29Where it'll be third down and a
00:06:30long nine.
00:06:31No snap count.
00:06:33Grogan went without the snap count
00:06:34on that play.
00:06:35They go on the move of the center
00:06:36right here.
00:06:37Big John Hanna, number 73, out in
00:06:40front of that play, getting a little
00:06:41Toreador action from 53 Keith
00:06:44Butler, the linebacker.
00:06:45He goes back, tries to get a helmet
00:06:47on somebody else.
00:06:48I'll tell you, he's a tough football
00:06:50player.
00:06:51Big John.
00:06:52Lower body of Hanna's.
00:06:54Thighs are 34 inches.
00:06:56My waist size is one of his thighs.
00:07:04And John Harris breaks it up intended for
00:07:10Cedric Jones.
00:07:13One of the things that John Hanna has
00:07:15to do as an offensive guard, when he's
00:07:17uncovered, when there's no one on top
00:07:19of him, he's got to drop back and
00:07:21look for the first dangerous man.
00:07:23You see him right here in the middle
00:07:24of your picture.
00:07:25Looks first to his right and then sees
00:07:26trouble to the left.
00:07:27That's Bryant, who looked like he was
00:07:29going to break away from Holloway.
00:07:31And Big John just put the helmet
00:07:33right to him.
00:07:34Well, that is a real, you can put the
00:07:35title on that one.
00:07:38Protector.
00:07:39John Hulgana.
00:07:40Time out.
00:07:41Working on the left leg of John
00:07:43Harris, but he did leave the field
00:07:44under his own power.
00:07:46You see, watch the back of the
00:07:47ankle.
00:07:47See the Cedric Jones, the receiver
00:07:49falling on that ankle.
00:07:51Camarillo.
00:07:52Kicking from deep in his own end.
00:07:54This one's fairly short.
00:07:55Midfield to Easley.
00:07:5945-40.
00:08:01And another good return by the
00:08:03Seahawks.
00:08:0415-16 yards for Easley.
00:08:08As Seattle comes on the field, a
00:08:107-6 game here.
00:08:1238-yard punt, 16-yard return in the
00:08:14finals.
00:08:15The Bears big at Dallas.
00:08:1644-0.
00:08:17First shutout against the Cowboys in
00:08:1815 years.
00:08:19Miami wins at Indianapolis.
00:08:22Jets big.
00:08:2262-28, so they're in first place at
00:08:25the moment.
00:08:25Pittsburgh 30-7 at Houston.
00:08:2724-14 winner.
00:08:29Philadelphia, the Eagles quietly on
00:08:31the plus side, 6-5.
00:08:32The Rams have lost three in a row.
00:08:34Upset at Atlanta.
00:08:35Cleveland beats Buffalo by 10.
00:08:3838-14.
00:08:39The Green Bay, a winner against
00:08:40struggling New Orleans.
00:08:41And we'll give you the rest after this play.
00:08:45Trailing only 7-6.
00:08:47Seattle at the New England 35.
00:08:49It's Warner.
00:08:50A little misdirection.
00:08:51Did not fool the Patriots.
00:08:53A flag is down as well as Larry McGrew
00:08:55spearheaded the defensive charge.
00:08:58Number 56, Andre Tippett.
00:09:01So quick on that last play.
00:09:03Dick, he's...
00:09:04I don't think I've ever seen a linebacker
00:09:06who could move more quickly than Tippett.
00:09:09Wait for the officials.
00:09:11Holding.
00:09:12Number 85.
00:09:14Offense.
00:09:15First down.
00:09:16That's Dan Ross.
00:09:18Former Cincinnati Bengal.
00:09:20You hear the call being made.
00:09:21You saw Tippett, number 56,
00:09:23going the wrong way.
00:09:24But you get a feeling for how quickly
00:09:26he can get in there and disrupt things
00:09:28from the defensive side of the line of scrimmage.
00:09:40A rare penalty in this game.
00:09:42Puts Craig in a first and 20 hole
00:09:45at the 45 of New England.
00:09:49Goes to the sidelines.
00:09:50That Charlie Young is tied in incomplete.
00:09:53Let's finish up the scoreboard.
00:09:54San Diego still leading at Denver in the third.
00:09:59San Francisco apparently is going to win
00:10:01at home against the Chiefs.
00:10:03Another team struggling.
00:10:10Last we heard it was 6-3 down in Los Angeles.
00:10:12The Raiders now at 6-0.
00:10:15The Bengals have just tied it
00:10:16in the third period.
00:10:17All field goals in Detroit.
00:10:19Apparently a winner against Minnesota at home.
00:10:20New England not a big blitzing team
00:10:26on second and 20.
00:10:27Let's see if they gamble.
00:10:29Craig in the shotgun.
00:10:36And down he goes at the 49-yard line.
00:10:39And it was Tippett.
00:10:41But Varys, the rookie, did a good job of flushing him out of the pocket.
00:10:44And Tippett will get the sack.
00:10:51Minus three yards for Tippett, his 11th sack of the year.
00:10:54Line stunt inside.
00:10:56Both of these linemen will be going outside.
00:11:00And this Varys will come all the way around
00:11:03from the top to get in on the action.
00:11:06Watch the play now as we turn it loose.
00:11:08Craig is going to have to fight for his life.
00:11:10Player coming all the way around.
00:11:11He doesn't get there the first time,
00:11:13but gets up and gets back to get a piece of it.
00:11:16Now, some wild action on the line of scrimmage.
00:11:18So, third and long for Craig,
00:11:20who goes deep down the middle to Largen.
00:11:23Oh, my.
00:11:25Largen is there again.
00:11:26And a first down at the 21.
00:11:36So much of the combination between receiver
00:11:39and quarterback is confidence.
00:11:42And look at the way Largen moves to get that time.
00:11:45Knew when that ball would be delivered,
00:11:47working against a fine coverage man in Raymond Claiborne, 26.
00:11:51But Largen forced him to the outside,
00:11:53made him turn,
00:11:54and then cut back to catch that football.
00:11:56They needed 23.
00:11:58They got 28.
00:11:59First down at the 21.
00:12:00And infield goal range with a score of 7-6 New England.
00:12:04Four and a half minutes remaining third quarter.
00:12:08Craig DeWarner.
00:12:12Went for about eight more.
00:12:14Lonnie Lippen made the tackle.
00:12:17Four and a half minutes remaining third quarter.
00:12:18Warner starting that play on the wing
00:12:20rather than in the backfield.
00:12:23Going in motion and finding some space
00:12:25over on the right-hand side.
00:12:27Craig just got in the ball quickly
00:12:28and they're able to get down
00:12:29within about a yard and a half
00:12:31of a first down.
00:12:33Much better job by the Seattle offense
00:12:36here in the second half.
00:12:39Yeah, they're driving deep
00:12:40toward a possible go-ahead score.
00:12:41Larson goes out and
00:12:45Seattle uses the two tight ends.
00:12:50Ross and Young bookend the line.
00:12:59Darryl Turner, broken up by Ronnie Lippen.
00:13:02Turner, in quest of his 11th touchdown catch of the year,
00:13:06but Lippen a good job on defense.
00:13:08Timing pattern.
00:13:09Almost the old alley-oop pass
00:13:12as they tried to throw it high.
00:13:14But Lippen showing us good athletic ability
00:13:16was right up there with Darryl Turner.
00:13:19Ball, as you see, way up on top.
00:13:22And he's giving some size,
00:13:24probably four or five inches.
00:13:25Four inches, anyway.
00:13:27Good jumping ability.
00:13:29Looks like Turner should have caught the ball.
00:13:31He was right there in both mitts.
00:13:33Third and a long one.
00:13:42Eric Lane, 15-10.
00:13:45Out of bounds at the five.
00:13:47First and goal, Seattle.
00:13:54Put on your helmet.
00:13:56You can feel like you're a part of the action here.
00:13:59Eric Lane circling out of that backfield.
00:14:01Almost lost his balance.
00:14:04Able to get his feet underneath him.
00:14:05And we mentioned earlier,
00:14:06he's the number three fullback.
00:14:09Not high, I'm sure, on the priority list
00:14:11of people to stop for this New England Patriot defense.
00:14:15But, boy, you can't overlook anybody.
00:14:18Seattle taking advantage,
00:14:19getting down inside the five-yard line.
00:14:22Lester Williams comes in.
00:14:24To bulk up that front line,
00:14:27and Marion is out on first and goal.
00:14:30Craig.
00:14:33Oh, my.
00:14:36It's like two semis colliding on the nearest sidelines.
00:14:39There must have been eight men involved in that scramble.
00:14:41I'll tell you,
00:14:42that's not a play you want to run very often
00:14:45when your backup quarterback is a rookie
00:14:47who has played very, very little.
00:14:51I think, though,
00:14:51that that's the toughest play to defense
00:14:53down on the goal line.
00:14:55When a quarterback can run or pass,
00:14:58he forces the defensive backs to stay back,
00:15:00gets an extra blocker into the pattern.
00:15:03Craig picking up, oh, about a yard and a half,
00:15:05almost two yards.
00:15:06They're almost down to the three-yard line.
00:15:09Ball just inside the three on second and goal.
00:15:19Take the Warner.
00:15:20Grayson a run again.
00:15:22Touchdown!
00:15:23Touchdown!
00:15:35Touchdown!
00:15:36Dave Craig tears the page out of Steve Brogan's book.
00:15:42Fakes the run into the line
00:15:44and simply takes it himself to the outside.
00:15:47Charlie Lee Young, 87, getting a good block.
00:15:50But there is the critical block from the inside,
00:15:5365, Ed Bailey.
00:15:55And they can't catch up.
00:15:5655, Blackford, 26, Claiborne.
00:15:59You see Craig celebrating
00:16:01as he knows he's punched it into the end zone.
00:16:05Johnson adds the extra point
00:16:07and the first time today in Seattle,
00:16:09the home team is in the lead.
00:16:11With three minutes, 27 seconds left in the third quarter,
00:16:15it's the Seahawks by six.
00:16:17There's the big block by Bailey.
00:16:19And, of course, there is Craig
00:16:21knowing where that touchdown was.
00:16:24Oh, it looked awfully close
00:16:25to having a knee on the ground.
00:16:27But the official who was right on the spot
00:16:28says no.
00:16:29He got the football over the line
00:16:31and got a touchdown.
00:16:33They went 35 yards in eight plays.
00:16:35And the key play was third and 23
00:16:38when Craig found Steve Largent
00:16:40over the middle for 28 yards.
00:16:42And instead of a long field goal,
00:16:45Craig and the Seahawks marched in for the seven.
00:16:48That'll turn Rod Russ,
00:16:49the defensive coordinator for the Patriots here,
00:16:51even wider.
00:16:52You figure when you've got them third and 23
00:16:55that you've got them locked up.
00:16:57Well, they got off the hook
00:16:58and they got into the end zone.
00:17:02Now, after leading 7-0,
00:17:03Friar scoring on the first play
00:17:05of the second quarter.
00:17:06The Patriot touchdown,
00:17:08a field goal by Johnson,
00:17:09and another Johnson field goal
00:17:11and a touchdown here in the third period
00:17:13to get the Seahawks the 13-7 lead.
00:17:27Starring close to the 25-yard line.
00:17:30Merriman again with a tackle.
00:17:31Number 51.
00:17:35Dave Craig on the phones.
00:17:37Most valuable headhunter,
00:17:41offensive line,
00:17:42or special teams player
00:17:44in the AFC last year.
00:17:46Number 50, Fred Young.
00:17:47Right in the middle of your screen.
00:17:48They've taken him off
00:17:49a couple of the special teams
00:17:50because he's starting,
00:17:52but they don't take him off
00:17:53the coverage teams.
00:17:54And that's the reason.
00:17:55He gets to the football.
00:17:56Didn't make the tackle,
00:17:58but did throw starring off balance
00:17:59with that first arm around him.
00:18:01Steve Drogon has missed on his last seven pass attempts.
00:18:11A little flanker screen to Cedric Jones,
00:18:14who picks up good yardage
00:18:15out to the 41-yard line
00:18:17and a first down.
00:18:18If we could keep an eye on Kenny Easley,
00:18:21they're really doing a lot of
00:18:22jumping around in there.
00:18:23On that last play,
00:18:24Easley had gone all the way up
00:18:25to the line of scrimmage.
00:18:27And about the time they snapped the ball,
00:18:28he's bailing out of there,
00:18:29trying to confuse Grogan.
00:18:31There he is, backing out of there,
00:18:33right in the middle of your screen,
00:18:34number 45.
00:18:35And what they're trying to do
00:18:36is to create some confusion for Grogan.
00:18:39They go up on the line,
00:18:40show him one thing,
00:18:41and then about the time
00:18:42that he gets his audibles out,
00:18:44they bail out on him.
00:18:46Easley is up on the,
00:18:47well, just the bottom of your picture.
00:18:49There he is.
00:18:49He's coming this time.
00:18:53Incomplete.
00:18:54And it was Easley's pressure
00:18:55that forced that pass to the ground.
00:18:58And on the last play,
00:18:59Easley had come up to that position
00:19:01and had bailed out.
00:19:02Here he comes to the same position
00:19:03and then comes inside.
00:19:05Tony Collins, 33,
00:19:06trying to pick him up.
00:19:07But again,
00:19:08the deep drop by Grogan
00:19:09gets him in trouble.
00:19:11As Easley is able to just go around
00:19:12to the outside
00:19:13and get to the quarterback.
00:19:15But what a rich pick that was
00:19:17for the Seahawks in 81.
00:19:19George Rogers was the number one player
00:19:21that year.
00:19:21Then Lawrence Taylor,
00:19:23Freeman McNeil third,
00:19:24and Kenny Easley fourth.
00:19:26Well, they've all proved
00:19:27quality players.
00:19:31Whoops.
00:19:32Looked as if Schultz was offside,
00:19:3458.
00:19:34Down the middle to Ramsey,
00:19:37broken up by Paul Moyer
00:19:38and Easley.
00:19:39Now, here's Easley,
00:19:4150 yards downfield
00:19:42to help break up the pass.
00:19:45But I believe Schultz was offside.
00:19:47Yeah, we mentioned impact players.
00:19:49Look at the ground he will cover
00:19:50as he tries to stay with Eric Ramsey.
00:19:53Offside, number 58,
00:19:54defense,
00:19:55second down.
00:19:58All for naught
00:19:59as New England will get the five
00:20:00on the penalty
00:20:01and bring up second and five
00:20:03at their own 46.
00:20:04But of course,
00:20:05if that pass had been caught,
00:20:06they could have
00:20:07waved the flag away
00:20:09and taken the catch.
00:20:11Well, you get an appreciation
00:20:13as you see the 49ers
00:20:15still leading Kansas City.
00:20:16The talent of Easley.
00:20:19What a power player
00:20:20he is on defense.
00:20:21Never in the same spot.
00:20:23Disguises his intent so well.
00:20:25Now he's playing 10 yards back.
00:20:27James.
00:20:29Fumble!
00:20:32And James was able
00:20:33to out-wrestle Fred Young for it.
00:20:37That's exactly what was going on
00:20:38on the ground.
00:20:40But again,
00:20:41the stripping of the ball.
00:20:42And these,
00:20:42both of these teams
00:20:43practice that.
00:20:45One of the things
00:20:45that Raymond Berry said,
00:20:46he said,
00:20:46we went out to Denver
00:20:47and they were always
00:20:48knocking the ball away.
00:20:49And he said,
00:20:49hey,
00:20:50we've got to do the same thing.
00:20:51Now they practice it.
00:20:53They go to work on that.
00:20:55Well, Raymond there
00:20:56looked like he's so low-key.
00:20:58It's almost as if he just
00:21:00getting ready to walk into the opera
00:21:02and got another 10 minutes.
00:21:04Boy, his mind is whirling.
00:21:05Big down here.
00:21:07Third and two.
00:21:07Easily on the line of scrimmage.
00:21:14Here he comes.
00:21:17Complete to Derek Ramsey.
00:21:1940.
00:21:20And Ramsey out of bounds
00:21:21at the 36 with a first down.
00:21:24That's the kind of play
00:21:25I mentioned earlier.
00:21:26Grogan could see the blitz
00:21:28coming from the far side.
00:21:30Knew he was going to get level.
00:21:32He waited and waited
00:21:33until Ramsey came open.
00:21:35Got the football to him
00:21:36for the first down
00:21:37and then took the shot.
00:21:39Watch him now.
00:21:40You'll see it.
00:21:41Number 42.
00:21:43Coming from the inside.
00:21:45He's kind of setting it up here.
00:21:47But watch Grogan.
00:21:48This is the thing that's so hard.
00:21:4924, Terry Jackson
00:21:50is the man who came from the outside.
00:21:53Ramsey doing a good job of running
00:21:54when that football
00:21:55gets away from Greg Gaines.
00:21:57That's courageous quarterback.
00:22:05James right into the teeth
00:22:06of that defense for three.
00:22:08What's interesting
00:22:08on the previous play,
00:22:10three defensive backs
00:22:12were blitzing for Seattle.
00:22:14Easley was coming.
00:22:15Jackson and Simpson.
00:22:16Three men all from that same side.
00:22:18Give you an idea
00:22:19of really how complicated
00:22:20that defense is
00:22:21for the quarterback to read.
00:22:23On that situation,
00:22:24that was three of the seven
00:22:25on the field.
00:22:25They were using seven DBs.
00:22:27Tom Catlin, of course,
00:22:28the man who puts that
00:22:30nickel package on the field.
00:22:31And it is a tough package
00:22:32to deal against.
00:22:34Second and seven.
00:22:38Flanker screen again
00:22:39to Jones.
00:22:40Read well by Dave Brown.
00:22:46Veteran from the
00:22:47University of Michigan.
00:22:49Brown, who is just one
00:22:51behind Donnie Schell
00:22:52as the active leader
00:22:54in interceptions.
00:22:55He has 42 career intercepts.
00:23:00Now third.
00:23:02And eight after the yard loss.
00:23:07New England trailing
00:23:0813 to seven.
00:23:11Half minute remaining
00:23:12third quarter.
00:23:25Down the middle.
00:23:26Intercept.
00:23:26Oh, Kenny Easley.
00:23:29A sure interception.
00:23:30He could just take a big
00:23:32bite out of that ball.
00:23:37Tremendous pressure
00:23:38on the line of scrimmage.
00:23:40Hannah trying to control
00:23:41there.
00:23:41Randy Edwards, 68,
00:23:43getting outside.
00:23:44Greg Gaines,
00:23:45a man who really decked
00:23:47Grogan.
00:23:48But Grogan able to get
00:23:49that pass up.
00:23:50Now let's go downfield
00:23:51and see what's happening
00:23:52there.
00:23:53It's Friar who's trying
00:23:55to control the football
00:23:56and easily will dream
00:23:57about that one tonight.
00:23:58Oh, my.
00:24:00Point of the ball hit him
00:24:01right between the four and
00:24:03the five.
00:24:05Franklin to try a 51-yarder.
00:24:08He wants to kick from 59.
00:24:17It's a fake.
00:24:18He's in to Franklin.
00:24:20It doesn't work.
00:24:24The flag is down.
00:24:25That's a well-known.
00:24:27That's a skar neck.
00:24:30Yeah.
00:24:32Special teams coach
00:24:32for the Patriots
00:24:33pulls one out of his pocket.
00:24:35But an alert Seattle defense
00:24:37would not allow it to work.
00:24:39But let's see what the flag is.
00:24:44Illegal use of the hands.
00:24:46Number 87.
00:24:47offense decline first down Seattle that's as good as a turnover for the Seahawks as Raymond Barry
00:24:55tries the fake field goal he has really been a gambler well you know for a very calm exterior
00:25:02and a very scientific kind of player he has become a kind of coach who's willing to take
00:25:07some risks won a big game with a flea flicker against Miami just a couple of weeks ago
00:25:12taking some risks here and I gotta tell you Dick I like that in a coach even when it doesn't work
00:25:17it forces the defense to respect what you can do and try to take field goal in four years the
00:25:23Patriots so first down Seattle at their own 39 Warner Julius Adams and Fred Merriam collaborate
00:25:31and that will be the final play of the third quarter here at the kingdom in Seattle 13 unanswered
00:25:39points by the hometown Seahawks it's 13 to 7
00:25:43the part of the two wins two losses two wins two losses then two wins they're trying to make it
00:25:49three in a row and break out of that pattern a six and four season
00:25:53second down six as we open this fourth quarter 13 to 7 Seahawks Craig incomplete
00:26:04Craig down Sims with a hit let's go to Ahmad Rashad
00:26:10all right Dick in Denver turnover was good they have a tie score 14 all in the fourth quarter
00:26:18a game certainly of interest to the fans here in the northwest as a Denver loss Seattle win would
00:26:27move the Seahawks into a first place tie with the Broncos New England of course needs a win to stay
00:26:33tied with the Jets in the east third and six for Craig deflected at the line of scrimmage
00:26:41Scansi was open at the 47 but someone for New England up front able to bat that one awry
00:26:47we can show it to you it's Julius Adams right here at the bottom of your screen he's just going to power
00:26:55inside won't make it all the way to the inside but as he sees Craig goes up to pass the Wiley veteran
00:27:0137 years old 14 years in the league look at that got that hand right up and snagged that football
00:27:06you can see how wide open Scansi was so instead of a first down Adams forces
00:27:11Dave Fenzer and the punting team to come on for Seattle
00:27:16Friar at his own 21 no fair catch
00:27:20and he is drilled by Paul Moyer
00:27:23today's game is brought to you by Hayes microcomputer products say yes to the future with Hayes
00:27:35by Budweiser Beachwood age for that clean crisp taste this Bud's for you
00:27:40and by Renault European technology built in America make Renault the one to watch
00:27:46he says LA going down look Bkop BEERLE
00:27:58right now here in America
00:27:59Irving Fryer
00:28:00what it takes to be a Vere after run fast though you
00:28:03might want to test your IQ after a hit like
00:28:05that from Paul Moyer you have to be courageous too
00:28:06football it has been Seattle's
00:28:09punt returning one for thirty two
00:28:11one for twenty five another for
00:28:12sixteen yards a big part of the
00:28:14story and they kept fire and
00:28:16check and so had they stopped
00:28:19Craig James who has had to work
00:28:22for his two or three yards and
00:28:23that's about what he's been
00:28:24averaging a little over three per
00:28:26carry let's go to Ahmad Rashad
00:28:27no apparently not Raymond Barry
00:28:30cool calm collected as he was as
00:28:33a player he just seemed so
00:28:35cerebral he always seemed to be
00:28:37working two three steps ahead
00:29:02twenty one fourteen Denver has
00:29:04scored twice in less than a
00:29:06minute both on runs by Gene Lang
00:29:11it's been a turnover mixed in
00:29:12there third and eight for Steve
00:29:22Grogan James has only forty four
00:29:26forty four yards rushing
00:29:28thirteen tough chances
00:29:33Irving Friar to the forty nine yard
00:29:36line in the first down caught from
00:29:38behind by Terry Jackson twenty six
00:29:40more yards for Friar oh he's
00:29:42exciting big play player eighty
00:29:45number Irving Friar working on
00:29:46Jackson as you'd indicated deck
00:29:48and just gets really gets him out of
00:29:52position and Grogan able to find him
00:29:54and get the football good play by
00:29:57Steve Grogan and one of the things
00:29:58we talked about at halftime that has
00:30:00not happened we felt that New
00:30:02England would come out and try and
00:30:04hammer this Seattle defense they have
00:30:06not been able to do that turnovers
00:30:08and Seattle success offensively has
00:30:10taken that opportunity away from
00:30:12them
00:30:13and then Dawson the tight end moving to
00:30:15the right side on first down at the
00:30:1750 Craig James and again three yards
00:30:21and that's almost as if he runs into a
00:30:23stone wall once he gets that three
00:30:25yard mark still trying to take
00:30:27advantage of those two giants on the
00:30:29left side of that offensive line
00:30:31Holloway at six foot seven and
00:30:34two hundred eighty five pounds Hannah
00:30:36is about six six three six four and
00:30:39about two hundred and two hundred and
00:30:41seven and seventy five right now
00:30:45second and seven thirteen to seven
00:30:49the score she had a lead
00:30:53Grogan drills Cedric Jones first down
00:30:56at the thirty eight day of Brown
00:30:57with a tackle and the Patriots have
00:31:00four more downs as they try to take
00:31:02the lead all right goes in from four
00:31:07yards out Denver takes the lead 21
00:31:09They're 21 14 there in the fourth quarter at old turnover table Denver using two of them
00:31:17to score two quick scores to rally from 14 seven down to go up by a touchdown here it's
00:31:22New England once leading seven nothing now trailing 13 to seven and the first down the
00:31:28flanker screen the Friar this time and the Friar wrestled out of bounds by Kenny easily
00:31:35after about a six yard play.
00:31:38One of the plays that you use to try and slow down the rush try and cause those defensive
00:31:43linemen to think twice is the screenplay let them inside but on that play tremendous
00:31:48reaction and swift pursuit by the Seattle defense limited what could have been a big play a market
00:31:55at the 31 so it's an eight yard gain second and two this telecast presented by authority
00:32:00of the national football league intended for the private use of our audience any rebroadcast
00:32:04or other use of this telecast without the express written consent of the NFL and the Seattle Seahawks is prohibited
00:32:11Tony Collins finds a hole and a first down at the 23
00:32:18Tony Collins has not had the success in this year that he had back in 83 when they were running out of a two back set
00:32:26last year of course New England went to a one back set really wasn't Collins's cup of tea and he got discouraged
00:32:33you saw him running out of the eye formation on that particular play and using the kind of success that put him all over a thousand yards back in 83
00:32:41back only the third man in a Patriot uniform to rush for a thousand yards in a season Sam Cunningham and Jim Nance the others
00:32:49finally rainbowed by Grogan to his running back James and it's 13 13
00:32:57threw a wide receiver out there at Terry Jackson to take him out of the picture and then swung James
00:33:05there's 81 starring who leads Jackson you see 20 trying to get back into the picture
00:33:10he wasn't able to do it number 58 Bruce Schultz left isolated on Craig James and James came up with the big catch
00:33:19but you're absolutely right Dick that's a finesse pass you'll see it here Grogan getting the ball and just
00:33:24softly softly lofts it in there for the touchdown now the extra point for the lead
00:33:30is it good no he missed to the left
00:33:35Tony Franklin who had not missed an extra point in his two years with the Patriots
00:33:42six in a row with New England he had had four last four when he was with the Eagles but
00:33:48hooked it to the left and instead of a 14 13 lead that almost almost
00:33:54automatic extra point keeps this game in a tie
00:33:56little adrenaline flowing for Franklin who kicks it all the way to the goal line
00:34:05Scancy
00:34:05breaks one tackle and then is nailed at the 20 yard line
00:34:11let's go back to the missed extra point
00:34:14you'll get penetration in the middle of the line from number 72 Joe Nash who breaks through right there
00:34:23and steps up throws his hands up in the air
00:34:26I think Franklin saw him coming through and maybe followed through a little too much
00:34:31just pulled that ball off to the left and you know when they moved that goal post back from the
00:34:36goal line to the end line they really did put some more mystery into the game and that hurts
00:34:42or it hurts to miss an extra point
00:34:44Blackburn made the tackle well will they missed extra point let's not
00:34:57to overlook what Brogan did on that last drive on a positive note he was four four four and sixty six yards
00:35:04it is outside against the Patriots
00:35:06And, of course, the touchdown pass of 29 yards or 23 yards to Craig James
00:35:11to culminate the 79-yard drive.
00:35:14Offside, number 55, defense, first down.
00:35:20Don Blackman, one of those two extremely large and active outside linebackers.
00:35:26You literally almost have two men who can play in the defensive line
00:35:30at those linebacking positions.
00:35:32They get so physical in there, but got a little eager on that one.
00:35:36They've got to cross the line.
00:35:38Craig, a .500 pitcher today, 15 for 30.
00:35:43Still looking for a touchdown pass.
00:35:45His streak, 28 in a row.
00:35:48Turner, no, he was not in bounds.
00:35:51I don't know if he caught it anyway.
00:35:52Craig, a little late in getting it to Turner.
00:35:56He had him open.
00:35:57He says, my fault.
00:36:00Patriot coaches over to offer some help to one of the officials.
00:36:04They felt that Walker was using his body, pushing the defender.
00:36:09They wanted to call for offensive interference on that last play.
00:36:12They wanted to call for offensive interference on that.
00:36:13They wanted to call for offensive interference on that.
00:36:22Second and five.
00:36:24Warner.
00:36:25And it sends and Steve Nelson with a tackle just short of the first down at the 30.
00:36:33Steve Nelson what a great player he is just tremendous anticipation and one of those players
00:36:41that just has a marvelous sense for what's going to happen watch him here on the left side of your
00:36:46screen and just before the ball is snapped you'll see him sneaking over into here he knew where that
00:36:51play was going to go watch him right there just sliding across gets himself in position where he
00:36:56cannot be blocked by Robert Pratt and then gets back to get a piece of the tackle
00:37:00third and a short one
00:37:05Warner who else first down boy it was only a jersey shy of breaking that one for a touchdown
00:37:15well what was it we said about the Patriot offensive line establishing control right now it's the Seahawks
00:37:22offensive line they're jamming up in the middle just driving people off and of course Warner
00:37:28who's having I think his best game of the year at least the best that I have seen him play
00:37:32just exploding continuing to make the big plays
00:37:35there you see his number six yards shy of a hundred and thirty-five more catching the ball
00:37:41looking for large and there he is
00:37:48thirty
00:37:50twenty
00:37:51touchdown
00:37:52a flag is down
00:37:57and I believe they're going to call it back for holding
00:37:59and I believe they're going to call it back for holding
00:38:03yes
00:38:04oh my
00:38:06does that hurt for the Seahawks fans
00:38:08Bob Kreider working on Sims number seventy seven and I think he's the guilty party
00:38:13at all that's so tragic for Largent but an opportunity to just break it for a second let's go look at it it's such a good play I think one of the most exciting plays in football
00:38:23number seventy eight offense
00:38:27first down
00:38:28Fred Marion actually comes in and knocks number forty-two Lippitt off the tackle
00:38:33now watch number eighty-one Daryl Turner who keeps Raymond Claiborne backing up until Largent can finally break to the inside
00:38:41well a celebration but it only lasted a second they'll bring it all the way back carry it back ten yards and instead of standing in the end zone Dave Craig will now line it up just outside of his own
00:38:51twenty five yard line
00:38:54that's a seventy five yard play sixty five they don't get and ten for which they are penalized
00:39:01and not only did Kreider get called for the penalty but he went off the field I don't know whether he's hurt John Borchardt number seventy six has come in at his place
00:39:10first down and twenty
00:39:14Craig in traffic
00:39:18twenty five thirty
00:39:19and out of bounds at the thirty five Andre Tipper
00:39:22the flag is nice
00:39:24they grab the face mask on him
00:39:29ten yards plus for Craig and the Seahawks
00:39:34that also carries the automatic first down
00:39:36we have a face mask foul
00:39:39number fifty six defense five yard penalty
00:39:43right at the end of the run
00:39:46Andre Tipper reaches out you see him grab it right there
00:39:49I'd be tempted to give him fifteen
00:39:52except he let go as soon as he got it he let go had he written him down with it it would have been fifteen and he realized he'd made the error took his hand away
00:39:59ball at the forty one yard line
00:40:09where it will be second down and
00:40:11about five shows first down and five well they can't give
00:40:15they got to charge him with a carry don't they on first down
00:40:17first down
00:40:20should be second down
00:40:24maybe not first and five
00:40:27Warner close to the first down at the forty five
00:40:32it doesn't matter where the foul happens if it happens during the play even after thirty yards down field it's still first down
00:40:40so it is second down and the yard
00:40:43now what they've done is to tack the penalty on to the end of the play and keep the down
00:40:47the same
00:40:49it is a costly penalty either way
00:40:53block running under eight minutes left
00:40:55great opportunity to gamble here
00:40:57perhaps
00:40:59the Seahawks will show us a little gambling nature on the second the yard to go
00:41:03that's Byron Franklin to the bottom of your screen we don't see him often
00:41:07and who
00:41:09Ferris meets Warner head on and
00:41:11Warner did not get the first down
00:41:13well they probably wish they had gambled they didn't make anything on the play
00:41:17playing the conservative game and
00:41:19left to his to his ways Chuck Knox is a very conservative coach
00:41:24in fact he sometimes rankles some of the local writers because they want him to be more flashy
00:41:29he says it simply I'd rather win
00:41:31and they certainly have done that successfully for
00:41:33well and he was your coach with the Rams after five winning years five playoff teams
00:41:37he was fired because he wasn't imaginative enough or creative enough or exciting enough
00:41:41he only won
00:41:43he said what's wrong with that
00:41:44I don't have any apologies to make if you saw the stat
00:41:47these Patriots the toughest in the league on third down conversions
00:41:51this one's going to be tough to stop only less than a yard to go
00:41:54Warner
00:41:56first down fumbles
00:41:58was he down?
00:42:00he was down
00:42:01it'll be a first down for the Seahawks
00:42:03the fall to the carpet forced to fumble
00:42:06when you see that runner coming and you know he's going to jump over the top
00:42:10you've got to try and hit him in the air
00:42:11watch number 57
00:42:13Steve Nelson
00:42:14he levels himself in there
00:42:16but Warner just goes up
00:42:18and over the top
00:42:20you see him as he hits the ground that ball comes loose
00:42:23but they won't charge you with a fumble when you hit the ground and the ball bounces loose
00:42:27that gives Warner a hundred yards for the day
00:42:30that may have been the toughest yard of the day for him
00:42:32six and a half minutes remaining thirteen thirteen the score here in the fourth quarter play action for Craig
00:42:40here's large and open again
00:42:43all the way to the thirty one
00:42:46twenty two more yards Craig the largest number eighty Steve large and working again on lip and watch him he gets him turned all the way around and then just loops back to the inside
00:43:05I think he hypnotizes those defensive backs
00:43:08he truly is an artist those wonderful feet doesn't have the great speed but knows how to get the defensive back at that critical point where the back must react that's when he makes his cut
00:43:18give you a little insight into how important that hundred yards is rushing for the Seahawks that's only the second time this year that the Patriot defense has given up a hundred yards rushing to a runner
00:43:29that's right Kevin Mac of the Browns was the other
00:43:32Craig looking for six
00:43:34there's larger
00:43:35down to the 12 yard line
00:43:3919 more
00:43:44some great work inside by the Seattle offensive line
00:43:48you'll see some pickups here that are just unbelievable
00:43:51there shot by number 65
00:43:54Ed Bailey on Nelson
00:43:56knocked him right off his feet
00:43:58gave the quarterback time to find large and again
00:44:01and look at that cushion
00:44:02it didn't pay off that time
00:44:05Claiborne likes to play his man loose
00:44:07and then accelerate to the ball
00:44:09he played larger a little too loosely on that play
00:44:11large and one catch away from 600 and his magnificent magnificent career
00:44:17first down as the Seahawks
00:44:19give the Warner
00:44:21six and a half minutes remaining 13 13 the score here in the fourth quarter play action for Craig
00:44:29here's large and open again
00:44:32all the way to the 31
00:44:36twenty two more yards Craig the largest number 80 Steve large and working again on lip and watch him he gets him turned all the way around and then just loops back to the inside I think he hypnotizes those defensive backs he truly is an artist
00:44:59those wonderful feet doesn't have the great speed but knows how to get the defensive back at that critical point where the back must react that's when he makes his cut
00:45:07give you a little insight into how important that hundred yards is rushing for the Seahawks that's only the second time this year that the Patriot defense has given up a hundred yards rushing to a runner that's right Kevin Mac of the Browns was the other
00:45:20Craig looking for six
00:45:22there's larger
00:45:25down to the 12 yard line
00:45:2719 more
00:45:28some great work inside by the Seattle offensive line you'll see some pickups here that are just unbelievable they're shot by number sixty five that Bailey on Nelson knocked him right off his feet gave the quarterback time to find large and again and look at that cushion it didn't pay off that time Claiborne likes to play his man loose and then accelerate to the ball he played large and again and look at that cushion it didn't pay off that time
00:45:53but Claiborne likes to play his man loose and then accelerate to the ball he played large and a little too loosely on that play large and one catch away from six hundred and his magnificent magnificent career first down as the Seahawks
00:46:10for about four for McGrew to make the stop Marion to help out good blocking inside and Seattle's offensive line doing the hammering here they're using Warner they're using the clock working down toward the goal line right now things are getting tough in there for this New England defense they're almost back into their own end zone excuse me Merlin the Raiders have scored the first touchdown of that game down in Los Angeles San
00:46:38San Diego counters with a field goal to pull within four Denver this is the 11th play of the long drive Warner trying to get outside what an effort by Warner and a flag is down and Sims just picks it up daily tosses it aside as if it was against a man trying to block me and that would be Bob Kreider
00:47:07it's been a tough day for the ex-patriot especially difficult because you want to play well against the team that had traded you away
00:47:16Kreider who's had a fine career here in Seattle holding number seventy eight
00:47:21offense second down it was Kreider who held on the sixty five yard touchdown that was called back earlier in this drive
00:47:33you see it on the right hand corner of your screen there is Kreider well just at the last part of there he is and that's just a good job of tackling on Sims and Kreider grabbed his shoulder and his arm and took him to the ground but it's a shame because you said it Dick that's a great job of running by Warner who got away from two short tackles to gain some yardage on that play
00:47:58second down and fifteen from the seventeen Craig has Turner open at the eleven and he's out of bounds at the seven yard line
00:48:05and he's out of bounds at the seven yard line that'll bring up third down and about five Darryl Turner a touchdown maker DT Darryl Turner but you can turn that around he's been TD for Seattle with ten that was his first catch today
00:48:25he's out of bounds he's out of bounds
00:48:27ề.
00:48:28Robert.
00:48:30Gilbert is used as a shield so that the opposing team can't see her is a signal I asked Jack Harris how complicated girls signals were how much information to get transcoded he said I could write a letter.
00:48:50on third and five.
00:48:52Craig deflected,
00:48:54intercepted by Marion.
00:48:56He might go all the way.
00:48:57He's got a whole crew of blockers.
00:48:5940, 50.
00:49:01One man to beat.
00:49:02It's Warner.
00:49:04Out of bounds at the 15.
00:49:07Fred Marion.
00:49:08Oh, my.
00:49:09Talk about a turnabout
00:49:11of emotions in Seattle
00:49:13from near touchdown
00:49:14to interception return
00:49:16of 83 yards for Marion.
00:49:20These New England Patriots
00:49:22just come up again
00:49:24with these late-game heroics.
00:49:27That ball batted up into the air,
00:49:29and that's the old tip drill.
00:49:31Fred Marion, who's really
00:49:33coming into his own.
00:49:35Half a tank here.
00:49:36That's down to a quarter.
00:49:37Great block there.
00:49:38Several fine blocks.
00:49:39Blair Bush trying to run him down,
00:49:41but the last man,
00:49:42and it has to be a sure tackle,
00:49:44Kurt Warner,
00:49:45and now Seattle's defense
00:49:46back into the game.
00:49:47For a second,
00:49:48it looked like it was going to be
00:49:49the New England defense
00:49:50that had the last chance.
00:49:51It's on empty.
00:49:54Marion's second interception,
00:49:56both right at the goal line
00:49:57in this game.
00:49:58The other one started the drive
00:50:00to New England's first touchdown.
00:50:02So, from 13 all,
00:50:04and Seattle,
00:50:06one touchdown called back,
00:50:07and another penalty
00:50:09after they've gotten
00:50:10inside the five.
00:50:11Marion gives the Patriots
00:50:13a ball at the other 15.
00:50:22Craig James
00:50:24for two.
00:50:28New England trying to gain the lead
00:50:30with three minutes left.
00:50:31Let's go to NFL 85.
00:50:33All right, Dick,
00:50:35a bit of excitement
00:50:36in Los Angeles.
00:50:37The Raiders go ahead
00:50:38of Cincinnati
00:50:39on this seven-yard touchdown
00:50:40catch by Marcus Allen
00:50:42from Mark Wilson.
00:50:43They're in the fourth quarter.
00:50:44The score is 13-6 Raiders.
00:50:49And here,
00:50:50New England tied with Seattle
00:50:51with 2.51 left.
00:50:52Seattle had the ball
00:50:53for over seven minutes.
00:50:55Scored once.
00:50:56Had a call back.
00:50:57Grenier scoring again.
00:50:58Come up empty.
00:51:00Grogan over the middle
00:51:01to Friar.
00:51:02Touchdown,
00:51:03New England.
00:51:05Irving Friar's
00:51:07second touchdown
00:51:08of the game,
00:51:08and the Patriots
00:51:09in a matter of seconds.
00:51:11It goes from Seattle's fans
00:51:13looking for a go-ahead score
00:51:15to Friar
00:51:16putting New England in front.
00:51:18The opportunity
00:51:19delivered
00:51:20by the interception
00:51:22and by the defense,
00:51:23and Friar and Grogan
00:51:25know how to take advantage
00:51:26of it.
00:51:27Pressure from 45.
00:51:28Kenny easily,
00:51:29but he gets there
00:51:30too late
00:51:31as Grogan able
00:51:32to spot Friar
00:51:33cutting to the inside
00:51:34on a post pattern
00:51:35and get him
00:51:36the football
00:51:36for the TD.
00:51:38Franklin,
00:51:39after missing
00:51:40his last point after,
00:51:44has this one
00:51:45down the center.
00:51:47Two minutes
00:51:47and 39 seconds
00:51:49remain.
00:51:50Seattle will have
00:51:50the ball
00:51:51when we return.
00:51:52Patriot defense
00:51:53loves that man.
00:51:54Rod Russ,
00:51:55the defensive coordinator,
00:51:57he's got to be
00:51:57breathing a lot easier
00:51:58right now.
00:52:00The pressure will be
00:52:01on his defense
00:52:01as the kick is short.
00:52:04Comes down at the 16
00:52:05to Scantzi
00:52:06and he's toppled
00:52:06at the 26.
00:52:09Meanwhile,
00:52:10Fred Marion
00:52:11was the AFC defensive
00:52:12player of the week.
00:52:14Last week,
00:52:15he might be going
00:52:15for back-to-back honors.
00:52:16The deflected pass,
00:52:18Eric Lane was there,
00:52:19an 83-yard return
00:52:21by Marion
00:52:21to set up the touchdown.
00:52:22He has two interceptions
00:52:24today,
00:52:25115 yards
00:52:27on his returns.
00:52:29He's the leading
00:52:29ground gainer
00:52:30for either side.
00:52:32Tremendous play
00:52:33by the New England defense,
00:52:35but they're right back
00:52:35on the field now.
00:52:37And with two minutes
00:52:37and 33 seconds
00:52:38to go in this game,
00:52:40Craig knows
00:52:41he's got time
00:52:42to work with,
00:52:43and I think he has
00:52:43all three timeouts, too,
00:52:44Dick.
00:52:45He does.
00:52:45A long ways to go.
00:52:4875 yards away.
00:52:50Twenty-eight straight games,
00:52:52Craig has thrown
00:52:52a touchdown pass.
00:52:53Oops, a mix-up,
00:52:54so neither receiver goes.
00:52:58Craig to Largent,
00:53:01and that is his 600th
00:53:03career catch.
00:53:04A man on his way
00:53:05to the Hall of Fame.
00:53:06No one in the history
00:53:07of this game
00:53:08has caught 600
00:53:09in less than 12 years.
00:53:11Largent has done it
00:53:12in less than 10.
00:53:17An ordinary play
00:53:18for most of these fans.
00:53:20Congratulations.
00:53:21I guess those are those
00:53:22that just finished
00:53:23their degree.
00:53:25Of course,
00:53:25congratulations
00:53:26on the newborn baby.
00:53:28Steve Largent's wife,
00:53:29Terry, baby Kramer,
00:53:31nine pounds,
00:53:32born last Monday.
00:53:33So, proud papa
00:53:34and records
00:53:34all in the same week.
00:53:36Craig Kramer James,
00:53:37he named him
00:53:38after Jim Zorn,
00:53:40the middle name.
00:53:43Lane batted away
00:53:45by Lippitt.
00:53:46That was a second
00:53:47and one throw,
00:53:48so now third down
00:53:49and one for Seattle
00:53:50with 2.22 left.
00:53:52Dangerously close
00:53:53to an interception
00:53:54on that play
00:53:55as Eric Lane
00:53:57kept backing up
00:53:58on that ball.
00:53:59When you've got defenders
00:54:00who can see
00:54:00that ball thrown,
00:54:02you can't afford
00:54:02to give them
00:54:03that opportunity
00:54:04to get up
00:54:04and take it away
00:54:05from you.
00:54:062.22,
00:54:06you see the clock
00:54:07as it counts down
00:54:08in this crucial contest
00:54:10between these two teams
00:54:12with Denver
00:54:13apparently winning
00:54:14in their game.
00:54:14The Seahawks
00:54:15are looking at
00:54:16the possibility
00:54:17of being two games out
00:54:18if they don't win here.
00:54:24Third and one.
00:54:27Quarterback draw
00:54:28and a first down
00:54:30at about the 43.
00:54:35That might take us
00:54:36up to the two-minute warning.
00:54:38Smart play by Craig
00:54:39who's called a timeout
00:54:40quickly to get another play in.
00:54:45So they will have
00:54:46two remaining
00:54:46as we welcome
00:54:47those of you
00:54:48who have been watching
00:54:49the action
00:54:49from the Coliseum
00:54:50in Los Angeles.
00:54:51The Raiders
00:54:51and the Cincinnati Bengals
00:54:53here in Seattle's
00:54:56Kingdome.
00:54:56The New England Patriots
00:54:58in a tremendous
00:54:59turnabout here
00:54:59late in the fourth quarter.
00:55:01Tied at 13
00:55:01when Tony Franklin
00:55:02missed the extra point
00:55:03that would have given
00:55:04New England the lead
00:55:05at 14-13.
00:55:06You see the final.
00:55:07The Raiders
00:55:07beating Cincinnati
00:55:0813-6.
00:55:09Then New England
00:55:11found Seattle
00:55:13driving downfield.
00:55:16A 65-yard touchdown
00:55:17pass from Grogan
00:55:18to his receiver
00:55:20Steve Largen
00:55:20was called back
00:55:21on a penalty.
00:55:23Seattle still
00:55:24marched inside
00:55:25the five-yard line.
00:55:26Another Kreider penalty
00:55:27and then a pass
00:55:28was intercepted
00:55:28at the goal line
00:55:29by Fred Marion.
00:55:30He returned it
00:55:3083 yards
00:55:31all the way
00:55:31to the Seattle 15.
00:55:33And at that point
00:55:35Grogan
00:55:36fired a touchdown
00:55:37throw to Irving Friar.
00:55:39and thereby
00:55:40the lead
00:55:41at 20-13.
00:55:46The Punky Brewster
00:55:47program will follow
00:55:48football coverage.
00:55:49In addition

00:56:00So we hope you'll
00:56:01stay with us here
00:56:02on the Peacock.
00:56:03Big lineup again
00:56:04on Sunday night.
00:56:05After New England
00:56:08took the lead
00:56:09and the turnabout
00:56:09on the interception
00:56:10by Marion
00:56:11when it appeared
00:56:11Seattle would score
00:56:12now it's up to the
00:56:13Seahawks
00:56:14with two minutes
00:56:1415 seconds left.
00:56:15They have a first down
00:56:16at their own 44
00:56:18and two timeouts left.
00:56:24Craig deep down
00:56:25the middle
00:56:25to Turner
00:56:26making Byron Walker
00:56:3089
00:56:31at the 10-yard line
00:56:33just missed.
00:56:35One man who's done
00:56:37his share of running
00:56:37today
00:56:38number 31
00:56:39Fred Marion
00:56:40Walker a speedster
00:56:42just a straight up
00:56:44and that ball
00:56:45perfectly thrown.
00:56:46You've got to be able
00:56:47to catch that bomb
00:56:48it looked like
00:56:49Walker just kind of
00:56:50let his feet go out
00:56:51from underneath him
00:56:52not a great deal
00:56:53of experience
00:56:53as a pass receiver
00:56:55in the NFL
00:56:56but oh you've got to
00:56:57catch those
00:56:57when they're thrown
00:56:58that perfectly.
00:57:00So on first down
00:57:01Chuck Knox
00:57:02and the Seahawks
00:57:03go for the bundle
00:57:04second and ten
00:57:05at the 44
00:57:05two minutes
00:57:07nine seconds left.
00:57:12Largent
00:57:13who has 600
00:57:14catches in his career
00:57:16with eight today
00:57:17is to the right
00:57:18Walker
00:57:20and Scanty
00:57:21to the left
00:57:22full blitz
00:57:24incomplete
00:57:26he was looking for
00:57:27Scanty
00:57:28trying to come back
00:57:29and Craig
00:57:30had to dump it off.
00:57:33Ken Sims
00:57:34had moved over
00:57:34to the right tackle
00:57:35position
00:57:35they put Andre
00:57:36Tippett
00:57:37down in the left
00:57:38tackle position
00:57:39three point stance
00:57:40and it was Sims
00:57:41on the right side
00:57:42who was there
00:57:42to force Craig
00:57:43to throw that football
00:57:45early
00:57:45the result
00:57:46an incompletion
00:57:47I think he just
00:57:48actually threw it away
00:57:49with maybe with the
00:57:50hope that Largent
00:57:51would read his mind
00:57:51and get there more
00:57:52quickly
00:57:52but they've got a
00:57:54third and
00:57:54third and ten
00:57:55now
00:57:55and I think
00:57:56they really will
00:57:57take four downs
00:57:58here
00:57:58there's no sense
00:57:59kicking the ball
00:57:59away
00:57:59with only
00:58:002-0-4
00:58:01left on the clock
00:58:02triple right formation
00:58:07on third and ten
00:58:10and down he goes
00:58:13McGrew
00:58:14with Garris
00:58:15the rookie
00:58:16Garen Ferris
00:58:17his second sack
00:58:19of the day
00:58:19the kid from Stanford
00:58:21and that's the
00:58:22two minute timeout
00:58:23the New England
00:58:24Patriots
00:58:25looking for a victory
00:58:26that would be their
00:58:27sixth in a row
00:58:28one shy of their
00:58:29all-time
00:58:30longest winning
00:58:31scheme
00:58:32have a touchdown
00:58:33lead
00:58:33and Seattle
00:58:34in a fourth and ten
00:58:36one hole with two minutes
00:58:37left and what will Chuck
00:58:38Knox do from his own thirty
00:58:39two well actually it's
00:58:40fourth and longer than ten
00:58:42fourth and about twenty two
00:58:45the others finals today the
00:58:46Bears have already clinched a
00:58:48playoff spot with their
00:58:49victory today
00:58:51and you see all the rest of
00:58:52the results
00:58:53Jets scored sixty two
00:58:55Pittsburgh now in sole
00:58:56possession of first place in
00:58:57the AFC Central
00:58:59Philadelphia keeps surprising
00:59:00Rams have lost three in a row
00:59:02Cleveland still in the thick of
00:59:05that central
00:59:06Green Bay big over New Orleans
00:59:08I can't believe this
00:59:10they've sent the punting team
00:59:12onto the field
00:59:13two minutes to go on the game
00:59:16do you believe they're going to
00:59:17punt it
00:59:17well
00:59:17maybe with that
00:59:19kind of yardage
00:59:20Knox figures he can
00:59:21kick it down there and
00:59:22work for the takeaway
00:59:23and with two timeouts left
00:59:26he won't have much time
00:59:29even if he's perfect
00:59:29defensively
00:59:30Irving Friar fair catches at the
00:59:33thirty four
00:59:33Friar with two touchdowns today
00:59:36one of the New England stars
00:59:38San Diego has taken the lead at
00:59:40Denver twenty four twenty one
00:59:42in the fourth quarter
00:59:43San Francisco an apparent winner
00:59:45against Kansas City at home
00:59:47Brogan taking his instructions
00:59:49and you better believe that
00:59:50they're talking about eating up
00:59:52that clock
00:59:52they need one first down
00:59:54of course Seattle will be
00:59:56calling the timeouts and will be
00:59:58going to try and force the
01:00:00turnover Knox in essence is saying
01:00:02I've got more confidence in my
01:00:03defense than I have in my
01:00:05offense in a third and very very
01:00:07long situation two timeouts that
01:00:10will be spent immediately first
01:00:13down by New England would seal
01:00:15the win
01:00:16Craig James protecting the football
01:00:26we welcome those of you of saying
01:00:30the forty Niners defeat the Kansas
01:00:32City Chiefs as the forty Niners move
01:00:35within two games of the Rams who have
01:00:38lost for the third straight week
01:00:39Dick Enberg and Merlin today in his five games
01:00:43all five wins with nineteen for twenty four
01:00:45passing in the fourth quarter two
01:00:47touchdowns no interceptions and he
01:00:49hasn't hurt himself today short gain
01:00:53again by the Patriots Tony Collins for a
01:00:55couple timeout and that's the last
01:00:57one for Seattle one forty five remain
01:01:00the executive producer of NBC Sports
01:01:04is Michael Weissman the coordinating

01:01:17Gunts technical directors are
01:01:19Thieberidge and Salvatore Nagita and
01:01:23congratulations John Filippelli on
01:01:25NFL 85 bringing the commissioner of
01:01:27football Pete Rozelle in to start off
01:01:29our coverage today another big day
01:01:32this is the 11th week of the season
01:01:34New England trying to stay in the
01:01:35first place tie with the Jets a team
01:01:37they'll meet next Sunday at Giants
01:01:39Stadium and a roar from the crowd here
01:01:42San Diego has gone ahead of Denver that
01:01:44one being announced that would keep
01:01:46Seattle close well they don't want to
01:01:50be close they want to be on top here's
01:01:51the stat that we'd like to show you
01:01:53that is very interesting Grogan has
01:01:56been in there for five games started
01:01:58four of those five and look how he
01:01:59scored by quarter it's that fourth
01:02:01quarter where he's had his best
01:02:03football and they've come from behind
01:02:04in several games and of course they
01:02:06came from behind again today their
01:02:08defense down close to their own goal
01:02:11line came up with a big interception
01:02:12and Grogan took advantage went to
01:02:14Friar for the big touchdown that put
01:02:16them out in front at a ball the
01:02:18stores in those first three quarters
01:02:20they don't equal what he's done in
01:02:21the fourth Dave Craig hoping he gets
01:02:24another chance Grogan just protecting
01:02:28the football brings up fourth down and
01:02:30the clock will run now and of course
01:02:32you'll watch Seattle try to jump off the
01:02:33pile and get on their side of the
01:02:35scrimmage line so the there there's
01:02:37the mark by the referee Mark Bright
01:02:40and 30 seconds from the time he
01:02:42drops that right hand so there'll be
01:02:44about a minute left if the Patriots
01:02:48let the clock run all the way to a
01:02:50five yard penalty now do you try and
01:02:52block this punt there are ten men up
01:02:54and Seattle of course is one of the
01:02:57teams in the league that has had good
01:02:58success over the past few years at
01:03:00blocking kicks Camarillo by the way a
01:03:03little bit slow in his kicking although
01:03:05I'm sure he's well aware of Seattle's
01:03:07record too they do take the delay of
01:03:10game 103 five yard penalty and
01:03:15Scancy who has had some good returns
01:03:17today Seattle has really shined in that
01:03:22department but Craig really in a tough
01:03:25spot Merle Olsen because when he does
01:03:27come on the field he has no timeouts to
01:03:29work with this is the kind of situation
01:03:31that a special teams coach like Dante
01:03:33Skarniecki has to spend a lot of time
01:03:35working on tremendous pressure on
01:03:37Camarillo and on every one of those
01:03:39people trying to protect him on the
01:03:41line of scrimmage ten men up there for
01:03:44Seattle he delivers a good kick Scancy
01:03:54naked back at the 20 down at the 28
01:04:0272 yards away the Seahawks with 52
01:04:06seconds remaining 47 yard punt eight
01:04:10yard return tempers flaring a little
01:04:12bit on the line as the officials try
01:04:14and get people separated down there and
01:04:18Reynolds number 95 one of the people
01:04:21involved in that Craig will be out
01:04:23quickly and you better believe he's
01:04:25got a lot of plays called maybe three
01:04:27or four plays in series they'll try and
01:04:29get it down the field as quickly as
01:04:30possible 52 seconds on the clock New
01:04:35England scored first and the first
01:04:37play of the second quarter Irving
01:04:38Friar an eight yard reverse seven
01:04:40three at the half and seven six in the
01:04:41third quarter before Craig rolled
01:04:44around his own left hand to give
01:04:45Seattle its first lead 13 to seven
01:04:47late in the third Rogan to James 23
01:04:50yards tied it extra point was missed
01:04:52and then Grogan to Friar 13 yards for
01:04:54the 2013 lead Craig deep down the
01:04:57middle Daryl Turner never looked
01:05:00for the ball but right by his helmet
01:05:05you've got to know when that ball is
01:05:09going to be thrown here's Turner
01:05:10watch how close to him this ball is
01:05:12thrown McSwain puts a hand up gets
01:05:16a finger on it and Turner who was
01:05:18obviously going straight up the
01:05:20field with all the speed he could
01:05:22muster unaware that football was
01:05:25even there it's an interesting call
01:05:27though with the Patriots probably
01:05:28thinking sidelines and they went right
01:05:30down the middle for it all a
01:05:31courageous call but disaster in a
01:05:34sense that you've got to have a
01:05:35receiver down there who knows when
01:05:36the football is going to arrive
01:05:37second and ten with forty seven
01:05:40seconds left
01:05:42second sack today his 12th of the season
01:05:54all pro linebacker for the Patriots
01:05:58came into this game as the leading
01:06:01sacker in the AFC he won't hurt his
01:06:05cause with that sack and of course
01:06:07the Seahawks pins the Seahawks even
01:06:09further into their own territory
01:06:14how many plays do you have for this
01:06:15kind of yardage in your book and the
01:06:16clock running and the Seahawks rather
01:06:17casual about getting back into the
01:06:19huddle with wide receivers third and
01:06:23twenty two Craig needs something big
01:06:30and they call it incomplete that would
01:06:37have been good enough for the first
01:06:38down
01:06:40and said it'll be fourth and twenty
01:06:42two
01:06:47new England Patriots a young team two
01:06:52years ago this club was the second
01:06:54youngest in the entire NFL second
01:06:57only to the Colts and in the two
01:06:59years since eighty three and
01:07:01apparently this is the time that
01:07:03they have ripened beautifully six
01:07:04straight wins are looking for I've
01:07:05got a twenty four all tie in
01:07:06Denver in the fourth or what a
01:07:09showdown apparently this will set
01:07:11up against the Jets next Sunday
01:07:13do or die for Craig.
01:07:17going to be intercepted by Roland
01:07:21James at the forty three yard line
01:07:24clock stops unchanged in possession
01:07:26eight seconds remain and the
01:07:28Patriots can now show open
01:07:31celebration now a Patriots defense
01:07:33responding again Jimmy Carr the
01:07:35defensive backfield coach and
01:07:36Don Shinneka coaches the
01:07:37linebackers Eddie Kayat coaching
01:07:39those defensive linemen along with
01:07:41the defensive coordinator Rob
01:07:43have to be terribly proud of what
01:07:45their defense did today under
01:07:46tremendous pressure able to get
01:07:48that last opportunity not only
01:07:50for the offense to score but put
01:07:52them way down in great field
01:07:54position and then of course
01:07:56Raymond Berry's quarterback
01:07:57Steve Grogan taking advantage of
01:07:59that chance to put it in the
01:08:01end zone.
01:08:03So Dave Craig second longest
01:08:04streak in NFL history.
01:08:07And then of course Raymond Berry's
01:08:08quarterback Steve Grogan taking
01:08:10advantage of that chance to put it
01:08:11in the end zone.
01:08:12And then of course it's the
01:08:13baseball history.
01:08:14Twenty eight straight games with a
01:08:15touchdown.
01:08:17Johnny Unitas forty seven way off
01:08:18by himself in that regard.
01:08:19But Craig's streak ends today as
01:08:21the New England Patriots shut him
01:08:22out in the passing touchdown
01:08:24department.
01:08:25And it's New England still in
01:08:26first place as they beat Chuck
01:08:29Knox's Seahawks twenty to thirteen.
01:08:35With Merlin Olsen this is Dick
01:08:36Enberg.
01:08:37Thank you for being with us at the
01:08:38Kingdome in Seattle where New
01:08:40England stays in first place.
