00:00Make no mistake, Danny Garcia has arrived.
00:04In his journey from underdog replacement
00:07to unified title holder, he has upset champions...
00:10God, it is out of it!
00:12...and demolished legends.
00:14Oh, my.
00:15Knocks Morales through the ropes.
00:17Now Garcia finds himself the reigning king
00:20of the most competitive division in boxing.
00:22♪♪
00:25But across the ring, former undisputed champion
00:28Zab Judah...
00:30who, with the inspiration of the Brooklyn Faithful,
00:33looks to remind the world he's still the man to beat.
00:37Judah with the big left hand.
00:39It's all over!
00:41An undefeated champion on a meteoric rise
00:44and a veteran recapturing the magic.
00:47Collide tonight on Showtime Championship Boxing.
00:51♪♪
00:59All right, fans, here we go.
01:02It's time for the bout you've all been waiting for.
01:06There's a crowd going wild.
01:10He is in trouble. Look at his legs.
01:13Oh, they're already falling at it.
01:15Tyson, laying it on, carrying it on.
01:17Down goes Bruno.
01:18Going to the ropes.
01:19The weight by 15 hertz is down.
01:22Oh, down goes Chavez for the first time in his career.
01:25A shot by Evander Holyfield.
01:27Castillo's in trouble.
01:29♪♪
01:35What a fight!
01:38It's Showtime!
01:43Showtime Championship Boxing is back in Brooklyn.
01:47And welcome to New York City, everybody,
01:49for another night with a true championship
01:51of the world on the line.
01:53Since its grand opening just last October,
01:56the Barclays Center has established itself
01:58as a world-class facility, home of the Brooklyn Nets,
02:02a team now in the NBA playoffs.
02:04But tonight, it is boxing in the spotlight
02:06with one of Brooklyn's own world-class fighters
02:09in the main event.
02:12We go inside the Barclays Center.
02:14We expect a raucous crowd as Brooklyn's Zab Judah,
02:1713 years since winning a belt in this weight class,
02:20gets another shot at the championship of the world
02:23at 140 pounds.
02:25The champ has brought the Philadelphia contingent north.
02:2825-year-old Danny Garcia has the WBA, WBC,
02:32and the Ring Magazine championship belts
02:34and defends them all tonight.
02:36Also tonight, you will see the man
02:38who stole the show here back in October,
02:40Kid Chocolate, Peter Quillen, the New York City fighter
02:43who has won six knockdowns in this last fight
02:45right here at the Barclays Center.
02:46He defends the belt he won that night in just a few moments.
02:53And hi, everybody, I'm Brian Kenney.
02:55Welcome to Brooklyn.
02:56We are right in the middle of a true championship run
02:59here on Showtime.
03:00Tonight, the Ring, or if you like,
03:02consensus champion defends his belt at 140 pounds,
03:06Danny Garcia versus the former world champion Zab Judah.
03:10And if the main event tonight is anything like the buildup,
03:13it will be explosive.
03:18Zab's a four-round fighter. He knows that.
03:20He got more knockouts than he got fucking fights.
03:21Don't matter, dog. Don't matter.
03:24It don't matter. It don't fucking matter.
03:28You won't be laid off flat.
03:30I'm flat for y'all. You won't be laid off flat.
03:32I see that.
03:34We ain't fucking winning. WBC. WBA.
03:38We're going to go home.
03:41A lot of talk before, you know what I'm saying?
03:43We're going to control. We're going to control.
03:46Brooklyn! Brooklyn!
03:50Yeah!
03:53You better sit outside, not in here!
03:55You suck, man. Shut up, man.
03:59I'm really motivated,
04:01and I'm ready to take him in deep water and drown him.
04:03You might see a little frustration over there
04:05because of the way I was treated,
04:06but you know what? Saturday, I'm going to remember all this.
04:09I'm taking him to dark North Philly,
04:11all the way in, and beat the shit out of him
04:13because that's what I'm going to do.
04:14See y'all Saturday night.
04:18Whoa. Okay.
04:19So parental discretion was definitely advised there.
04:22We bring in the team, Al Bernstein,
04:24Mauro Ranallo, and Paulie Molinaggi.
04:25Look out. We've been through these things many times before.
04:28More often than not, this stuff means nothing,
04:30you know, when it comes to what's happening in there.
04:32And yet, this week, especially the way
04:35Zab Judah thinks he was disrespected
04:37at the news conference, waiting, he said, in a basement.
04:40No food and water.
04:41Angry at the golden boy himself, Oscar De La Hoya.
04:44You wonder, with all that talent, all that experience,
04:46all that anger, if it will make him a more dangerous man.
04:49Well, we know he's dangerous at press conferences.
04:51That's for sure.
04:52You know, the fact of the matter is
04:54that Zab Judah, when you just are around him,
04:55is one of the most pleasant, charming guys
04:57you could ever be with.
04:58Not like the press conference Zab Judah.
05:00I think he is, for sure, distressed about what went on.
05:04The old Zab Judah, when he was younger,
05:06might have taken that into the ring with him
05:08and had it affect, adversely, his performance.
05:11I think this Zab Judah, now a little more grounded in life,
05:13may be able to put it aside.
05:15As for Danny Garcia, his father,
05:17while we know very intrusive in all of the things
05:20that happened with him in boxing, some say too much,
05:23kind of acts as a human shield for Danny.
05:26And Danny doesn't have to get into the fray.
05:28And that may be a benefit to him,
05:29as it might have been for this fight buildup.
05:31Paulie Malignaggi, you know something
05:32about fighting in your hometown.
05:34But not only that, but fighting in this hometown.
05:36And by the way, getting involved in dust-ups,
05:38melees, trash-talking, fracases, if I may.
05:41What does it all mean to either guy?
05:43Oh, you know, we talk about hometowns.
05:45We talk about Zab Judah being from Brooklyn.
05:46But in all honesty, Danny Garcia is no newcomer
05:49to the Barclays Arena.
05:50He's no newcomer to coming to Brooklyn.
05:51He opened up this arena with the first boxing show here.
05:55This is his second title defense here.
05:56So Philadelphia's just two hours away.
05:59So in a way, when you talk about hometown distractions,
06:01you talk about hometown support, so to speak,
06:04I'm sure Danny Garcia's gonna have some support.
06:05I'm sure Zab Judah will have some support.
06:07Both guys have to take the positives out of that
06:09and avoid the distractions that come
06:11with fighting either at home or so close to home.
06:13All right, again, these two have been kept separate
06:15since that dust-up in the sock aisle
06:17of the Brooklyn Models.
06:19And who hasn't had a brawl in the Brooklyn Models?
06:21The main event, Danny Garcia, Zab Judah, the WBA, WBC,
06:25Ring Magazine World Championship,
06:26on the line at 140 pounds.
06:28And in our opening bout, it's the WBO Middleweight Titleist,
06:32and I make that distinction, Kid Chocolate,
06:34Peter Quillen defending his belt against Fernando Guerrero.
06:38Now, the last time here in Brooklyn,
06:39it was back in October,
06:41Peter Quillen had an extremely rare kind of win.
06:43He had six, count him, six knockdowns of Hasan Endam.
06:46And yet, Endam kept on fighting back
06:49and forced a reasonably competitive decision.
06:51It was a wild night.
06:52Here's a quick look back.
06:56Peter Quillen is the challenger here.
06:59And Endam seems okay.
07:00Oh, look, and drops it.
07:0245 seconds remaining.
07:03Left hand, down goes Endam again.
07:08Good left hand drops Endam.
07:10Good right hand, down he goes.
07:13Much better combination punching.
07:15Got a left hand, drops Endam.
07:18The crowd here on its feet.
07:21The bottom line is, Peter Quillen is a winner.
07:24He is the new WBO Middleweight Champion.
07:27And Endam is the winner.
07:34Yeah, six knockdowns.
07:35The Brooklyn crowd, they love Kid Chocolate.
07:38Peter Quillen back in the ring
07:39for the first time since that fight.
07:40Now, facing Fernando Guerrero,
07:42a man with only one career loss
07:44and a win over current world champion Ishe Smith.
07:48Listen to the crowd for Kid Chocolate.
07:51Let's go ringside.
07:52Mauro Ranallo, Al Bernstein, and Paulie Malignaggi.
07:57Associated with Grand Rapids, Michigan.
07:59And having his name in the same sentence
08:01as Floyd Mayweather, Roger Mayweather,
08:03Tony Tucker, and Stanley Ketchel is a big treat
08:06for the gregarious 29-year-olds
08:07who are now living in New York City.
08:09Trains under the estimable Eric Brown
08:12at the decorated Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.
08:15Paulie, you know a thing or two about Mr. Brown.
08:17I know a thing or two about Mr. Brown
08:19and I know a thing or two about the Wild Card Gym.
08:21And both have helped Peter Quillen tremendously.
08:23And I'm sure he'll be in great shape for this fight.
08:25Yeah, and he actually trains at the Wild Card West,
08:28which is a gym owned by film director Peter Berg
08:30and comedian Gary Shandling.
08:32And Eric Brown sends him over there
08:34and he has enjoyed the environment out there,
08:37even being an East Coaster.
08:4326-year-old Fernando Guerrero
08:45is dedicating tonight's fight
08:47to his 89-year-old grandfather, Guanachito.
08:49Helped raise him under hard scrabble conditions
08:51in the Dominican Republic.
08:53He has won four fights in a row,
08:54three by knockout against limited opposition.
08:57Since his lone defeat, a big upset loss
08:59against Grady Brewer in June, 2011.
09:05As we take a look at the tail of the tape
09:07for this WBO middleweight championship bout.
09:11The significant number here is probably the slight,
09:13very slight reach advantage that Peter Quillen has
09:16because he wants to fight from a distance.
09:19He's not a great inside fighter,
09:20which is where Guerrero might have an edge.
09:25And the rules, the unified rules for both fights tonight.
09:28There is no standing eight count,
09:29no three knockdown rule.
09:30Only the referee can stop the fight.
09:32A fighter cannot be saved by the bell in any round.
09:34If an accidental headbutt causes a fight to end
09:36within four rounds, it's a no decision.
09:38After four rounds, they go to the scorecards
09:40for a technical decision.
09:42So we are set now for our opening bout,
09:44the WBO middleweight championship up for grabs.
09:47Here's ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr.

10:37And from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nelson Vasquez.
10:41And our third man of the ring,
10:43and our referee in charge of this bout, Harvey Dock.
10:48All right fans, here we go.
10:5112 rounds of boxing for the WBO
10:53Middleweight Championship of the World.
10:58Introducing to you first, the challenger on my left,
11:01fighting out of the red corner,
11:02wearing white trunks with red and blue trim,
11:05fighting out of Salisbury, Maryland,
11:07by way of Iwe in the Dominican Republic.
11:11He weighed in at the middleweight limit of 160 pounds even.
11:15His record stands at 25 wins,
11:17one loss with 19 wins coming by way of knockout.
11:21Tonight, he is making his first attempt at a world title.
11:24Please welcome the WBO number nine ranked contender.
11:27Introducing, Fernando Guerrero.
11:38A man of his opponent across the ring,
11:40the defending world champion on my right,
11:42fighting out of the blue corner,
11:44wearing white trunks with brown trim,
11:46originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan,
11:48now fighting out of New York City.
11:52He weighed in the same as his opponent, 160 pounds even.
11:56He is undefeated in his campaign
11:58with a record of 28 wins, no losses.
12:0120 wins coming by way of knockout.
12:04Tonight, he is making the first defense of his title.
12:07Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the undefeated
12:10WBO middleweight champion of the world,
12:14known as Kid Chocolate, Peter Quillen.
12:26Once again, our referee in charge.
12:27Now to give instructions, Harvey Dock.
12:30Okay, guys, both trunks look good.
12:33We went over the instructions earlier.
12:34Remember, obey my commands at all times,
12:37protect yourself at all times.
12:38Touch gloves, good luck.
12:44Quillen and Guerrero are both advised
12:46by one of the most influential figures in the sport,
12:48Al Heyman, and this will be the first time
12:50that two of Heyman's fighters have fought each other,
12:52so for at least one night only,
12:54the House of Heyman is up next.
12:56They have fought each other,
12:58so for at least one night only,
13:00the House of Heyman is a house divided
13:01with the WBO middleweight championship on the line,
13:04the champion Kid Chocolate, Peter Quillen,
13:07making the first defense of his title
13:09against Fernando Guerrero.
13:14Quillen in the white with brown trim, Guerrero
13:19sporting the white and stars and stripes,
13:22the American flag.
13:24Right away, you see the lefty-righty matchup.
13:26And the Dominican Republic flag.
13:28Yeah.
13:31Quillen comes in with a one-two,
13:33Guerrero fighting out of the southpaw stance.
13:38For Guerrero, if he's going to stay on the outside like this,
13:41it's gonna be a tougher fight for him.
13:43He's probably gonna have to get inside at some juncture
13:47against Peter Quillen.
13:49You already see the feet a couple of times
13:51stepping on each other.
13:53It's a lot of common problem
13:54when lefties and righties fight each other.
13:56Just trying to find the angle
13:59and trying to keep your foot on the outside
14:00of your opponents, but especially in the early stages
14:02when guys are feeling each other out,
14:04it's just a feeling out process.
14:05You're trying to find that angle.
14:07Quillen is the only American in the middleweight top 10.
14:10He has faced three southpaws,
14:12two in his three most recent fights,
14:14that being Winky Wright, who he sent into retirement,
14:16and Craig McEwen.
14:20Guerrero, since his loss to Grady Brewer
14:23in a fight in which he went down to 152 pounds,
14:25has won four straight,
14:27but they haven't been tremendous opponents.
14:30They have a combined record of 76, 49, and eight.
14:38See Quillen trying to establish the jab.
14:39A lot of times guys think they can't jab at a southpaw,
14:42but you see Quillen trying to use that jab
14:44even as a range finder, but he's snapping it out there.
14:46As you see Guerrero just trying to overhand left hand
14:48over the top.
14:49Just past the midway point of the opening round.
14:53IVF 154 pound champion, Ishe Smith,
14:57contributing via Twitter.
14:59Fought Fernando Guerrero back in 2010.
15:02Lots of people thought he won, but it was a tough fight.
15:06That was on Showbox, and I'm one of those people
15:08that thought Ishe might well have won that fight,
15:10and it was a terrific fight,
15:11one of the best of the year on Showtime.
15:13Final minute of the opening round,
15:15a feeling of process between the champion Quillen
15:17and the challenger Guerrero.
15:20Quillen touches him with a straight right hand,
15:22testing the waters with 45 seconds
15:24remaining in the opening frame.
15:26So you saw a jab again from Quillen.
15:28Guerrero trying to really just paw with his lead jab
15:31with the right hand, and you see Quillen
15:33snapping it out a little more.
15:34But neither guy really finding much range.
15:41Under half minute remaining,
15:43there's an overhand right that stung Guerrero.
15:46Stung Guerrero.
15:52Guerrero delivers a straight left to the torso of Quillen,
15:55working the body.
15:56The jab by Quillen sticks nicely.
15:59That's been a good weapon from this round.
16:01You know, he's managed to stick out a couple of times
16:03and touch Guerrero with it.
16:05And it's kept Guerrero from getting any work done
16:08like he'd want to.
16:08We're just getting started here
16:10at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
16:12Time.
16:16Beautiful.
16:17Good round.
16:17Good round.
16:18Come on, Pete.
16:20Well, we take a look at the keys to victory
16:21for Peter Quillen.
16:23I think he needs to set the pace.
16:24That was a slow first round,
16:26but he's got to keep the pressure, I think, on Guerrero
16:29and keep his distance in the process, though,
16:31so that Guerrero doesn't get inside.
16:33The right hand is a terrific weapon for him.
16:35We saw him use the left against him down,
16:36but the right is very good in this situation
16:38against the softball.
16:40As for Fernando Guerrero,
16:44I believe he needs a good start.
16:46Well, actually, he got off to a timid start, I thought.
16:50Get on the inside.
16:51He hasn't done that yet.
16:53And the overhand left, I think,
16:54will be a power punch for him
16:55that could work in this fight.
16:58Working Guerrero's corner
16:59is his former trainer, Barry Hunter.
17:01No relation to his current trainer,
17:03the reigning trainer of the year, Virgil Hunter,
17:05who is in England tonight working Amir Khan's corner.
17:08♪♪
17:11♪♪
17:14♪♪
17:17♪♪
17:20Guerrero, right away, this round,
17:22came out trying to establish his own jab.
17:26After throwing it, as Al said, timidly in the first round.
17:33They exchanged jabs in the early going of the second round.
17:37Doubling up on his delivers another single jab.
17:39That one was parried by the champion Quillen.
17:42Guerrero was a decorated amateur,
17:44was rolling along undefeated until he lost to Brewer.
17:48And since then, he said, I had to grow up.
17:50I had to become a man.
17:51I thought things were gonna be easy for me.
17:53I figured I would just roll to a world championship.
17:55And he said, not so easy.
17:57But here he has an opportunity.
18:05So far, neither guy really has been able
18:07to grasp a real good grip of an advantage.
18:10They're touching each other here and there,
18:11but looking for that first clean shot
18:14as Quillen leads a jab there.
18:15Double jab, one to the head, one to the body.
18:18There's the one-two combination,
18:19culminating with a left hook
18:20to the side of the head by Quillen.
18:22When you finish with the left hook against a left-hander,
18:25you are gonna do well.
18:26And Quillen, as we saw against Endom,
18:28has a very good left hook.
18:31Dropped Endom a half-dozen times, but once.
18:33Oh, and he just dropped Guerrero with a straight right.
18:36Counter right hand, counter it.
18:38Five, six, seven, eight.
18:43Come to me, come to me, come to me.
18:45Give me gloves, give me gloves.
18:47You all right?
18:48Yep.
18:49I don't know how long it's gonna go, guys.
18:51But he's hired.
18:52Quillen, all over Guerrero,
18:54who goes down for the second time in the round.
18:57Three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
19:04You all right?
19:05Yep, yep, yep.
19:06Come to me, come to me.
19:07Give me gloves.
19:08You all right?
19:09Yep.
19:09I don't know how long it's gonna go, guys.
19:11But he's hired.
19:22It might help him recover because he didn't get hit too clean the second time around.
19:26Heading into this fight, Guerrero had gone down five times.
19:29He's now hit the canvas seven times in his career.
19:32And Quillen is swarming him, attacking the body.
19:35Right hand's upstairs.
19:37And Guerrero in a whole heap of trouble here in round two.
19:43And almost went down again off of his own left hand.
19:47That should have been part of the knockdown, his glove hit.
19:52Guerrero trying to stay alive in the final 15 seconds of the second round.
19:57Missing with a wild right hand.
19:59Coming back with a left.
20:01And now clinching with the champion.
20:03So a huge round for WBO middleweight champion Peter Kitchak-Laquillen
20:09in front of his fans here in Brooklyn, New York.
20:17Great job by Guerrero to get out of the round.
20:22You got me!
20:25Listen, you cannot go down that way.
20:28The first knockdown came from a right hand.
20:31We talked about it in the keys to victory.
20:33The right was the punch that would probably be there for Quillen.
20:36He threw it straight. He threw it accurately.
20:39And it was right there for him to land.
20:42The second knockdown would also be courtesy of right hand.
20:45Looking to load up with that punch.
20:48He measured him and put him in position with the left hook to the body.
20:52And then was able to land the right that sent him down.
20:55There was a third time in that first round that could have been called a knockdown.
21:01There's the right hand.
21:03Now that was close.
21:05And then there was one after that that the glove actually touched.
21:08So there were several situations where he might have even had another knockdown.
21:12In any case, it was two knockdowns during that round.
21:15Guerrero escaped the second round.
21:18Quillen with all kinds of confidence after knocking down the challenger twice in that second stanza.
21:24The round three underway.
21:27And Quillen again very focused.
21:30Flashes the jab. It's parried by the challenger Guerrero.
21:34One of the reasons Fernando Guerrero had struggled here, he's not been inside.
21:39On the outside, he'll be picked apart by Peter Quillen.
21:42He's got to get in close to stay away from those right hands.
21:45Quillen misses with a wide looping left hand.
21:48Guerrero unable to counter effectively.
21:50Now Guerrero puts together a multiple punch combination.
21:54Now you make a good point about Guerrero needing to get inside.
21:57The curiosity here is will he have enough confidence to try to work his way inside after being dropped two times last round.
22:05Fernando Guerrero averages 80 punches a round according to show stats.
22:09He threw 25 in the first round.
22:12That shows you in the first round only.
22:15And then in the second round, not much better either.
22:18Quillen got a late start in the sport of boxing.
22:20Started at 15, had just 15 amateur bouts.
22:23But so far as a professional, yet to taste defeat.
22:26And so far so good in his first title defense of the WBO middleweight belt.
22:34And there's a crushing right hand that tags Guerrero.
22:37Guerrero doesn't want to fall into a habit sometimes guys who score early knockdowns will fall into.
22:43Looking for just one shot.
22:45He seems to be trying to measure Guerrero for one shot.
22:47He wants to keep up with his style of boxing and setting up the power.
22:51Because if he ends up looking for one shot, he may end up missing most of the rest of the night.
22:56Guerrero smaller than Quillen.
22:59Really fighting even smaller could set himself up for an uppercut as we see the power punches.
23:05Quillen landing at 55% and throwing a lot more than Guerrero.
23:09When you land 55% of your power punches, you're in pretty good shape.
23:14Under a minute remaining in the third round.
23:17It's been all Peter Kidd, Chocolate Quillen.
23:21Quillen had a hard time making weight.
23:23He was a pound and a half over.
23:25Both actually had a problem making weight.
23:27They both had to make weight twice.
23:29Yeah, and then they finally did.
23:31But the overhand left getting there by Guerrero.
23:35And that's the punch he just got to start unloading.
23:37Yeah, it was just underneath his face.
23:39If he would have been a little higher, it might have made Quillen feel it a little more.
23:44Under 30 seconds left in the round.
23:47Guerrero having recovered from the two knockdowns in the second stanza.
23:51Needs to get on track.
23:53Quillen keeping him at bay with the jab.
23:55Left hand to the body by Guerrero.
23:58And we are through three rounds here of this WBO middleweight title fight.
24:02Left hand to the body by Guerrero.
24:05And we are through three rounds here of this WBO middleweight title fight.
24:22All he's going to do is try to land that Canada head.
24:26As long as you keep turning him, he can't get set to throw it.
24:28You got me?
24:30You got me now sometime. We're gonna have to fight a little bit on the inside big boy
24:35You got me you better than that on the inside and you got to put him on his heel
24:40The more he can come forward the more his punch that's gonna go up. You got to back him up
24:45He can't fight in reverse. You hear me slipping side to side jack in the back
24:50Look underneath what uppercut can you stand and talk?
24:53You hear me?
24:56The
24:59Ageless one Bernard the executioner Hawkins
25:03undisputed middleweight champion
25:07Still holding the gold at the age of 48 and actress Rosie Perez right behind them
25:12She's a huge boxing fan. Just won the title again in a spectacular win over
25:20Devorah's cloud right here in this building Rosie Perez is going to be the grand marshal for the International Boxing Hall of Fame
25:26Inductions. Yes, indeed. Good boxing fan. As you said, she was one of my childhood crushes guys
25:37It's the match in the ring continues round four, you know, you have such a hard time finding girls don't you?
25:43It's a work in progress and now
25:45Guerrero getting busy with the straight left hand as Quillen was along the ropes momentarily moves the action back to the center of the ring
25:51It's him with the jab. There's a nice straight left at Jack the jaw of the champion in the corner
25:56we heard the fact that they they're echoing my sentiments that girls got to get on the inside and
26:01He's got a fight a little bit on the inside against Quillen and he's not getting there
26:06Very hot they're saying if you can back pull it up cool does not know how to fight going backwards. Well
26:10It's easier said than done
26:13Considering he's been knocked out another overhand right by the champion connects and he's got to make those right hand miss on his way
26:19in
26:21Left hook to the side of the head by Quillen
26:24Guerrero with a straight left darting out of the way trying to work off the angles now
26:28Just squaring up in front of the champion faints comes in gets a short right uppercut to the job for his efforts
26:35You
26:37Like to see Guerrero move his head a little bit more as he tries to work his way in
26:40Kind of trying to walk it walk inside with no head movement
26:43And it's hard because Quillen is a good jab a big right hand. He's gonna see you cover every time
26:48He's not jabbing his way in either. It's not doing anything as you point out to keep
26:52Busy when he comes in. Yeah, you got it. You got a surprise him when you're waiting
26:57It's just not gonna let you in the key is not that easy to unlock the lock is not that easy
27:00I love you need the key basically
27:05I
27:07Love talk to the body by Guerrero misses with the right under a minute remaining in the fourth round
27:14Establishes the jab nails him with the right hand, but it's Guerrero has Quillen in the corner
27:18And you know ends up when he got caught did some good work
27:22And you see Guerrero's least making some things happen a couple of left hooks by the challenger
27:29Another left hook connects by Guerrero
27:32That overhand left
27:34Comes back with the right hand he's tasted the power of Guerrero, and he's walked right through it has the champion
27:41Well Guerrero we talked about the overhand left for Guerrero and the keys he's starting to use that
27:45Why don't they listen to my keys all the time? I don't understand
27:49But I'll tell you what Guerrero's got to start coming back with something else besides the left hand because Quillen has already started trying to time it
27:54Yes
27:5720 of Quillen's 28 wins have come inside the distance for Guerrero 19 of his 25 victories
28:08Uppercut by Quillen in the dying seconds of round four
28:14Quillen noticed Guerrero kept coming to one punch with that one big left hand he caught he caught it
28:19He shot his own right hand that's why I need Guerrero to come back with more than that
28:23It's the left hand after a while. He's got a follow with the hook
28:25Listen, you get in the winning position, you need to miss
28:27You get in there, don't pull out, plant it
28:29You got it better planted than you on the inside
28:31You got it, but you cannot pull it out
28:33Commit to the question
28:35Stay on him
28:37They got tangled up as lefties and righties often do and this right hand almost sent Guerrero down because he had a balance issue early in the round
28:50Later in the round after Guerrero had had success with his overhand left
28:55Through this one
28:57But was countered as Paulie pointed out because Quillen was ready to time that punch
29:02And landed that good straight right hand
29:06And it was because Guerrero allowed his attack at that point to be kind of one dimensional
29:12After what was a good round for Guerrero at the beginning
29:15In between rounds Dr. Robert Polovsky taking a very close look at Fernando Guerrero
29:21Allowing him to continue as round 5 begins
29:26It has been all WBO middleweight champion Peter Kid Chocolate Quillen
29:31Although round 4 was the challenger's best round he was able to connect with several left hooks
29:35But Quillen's right just before the bell might have stolen him the round
29:39Yeah, 8 landed punches for Quillen according to show stats in the last minute
29:44And it was a great round for Guerrero until that last portion of it
29:48Guerrero coming with his own left hands again here
29:51Fernando Guerrero showing great heart here and he wants to make this a fight
29:55He's not giving up by any stretch
29:59Lands another left hook but again Quillen able to just keep moving forward
30:05Hauling at him with the jab
30:07Sticks the stiff jab
30:10Eric Brown the trainer of Peter Quillen felt that ultimately the power and pressure of Quillen would get to Guerrero
30:16Well and lands a nice right hand there's a left and a wild left hand by the challenger
30:22Guerrero formerly based in Salisbury, Maryland
30:26Big draw in that area of the world before moving to Hayward and hooking up with Virgil Hunter in California
30:34He wants to put Salisbury on the map as more than just a place to give birth to Terminators
30:41Linda Hamilton, he wants to terminate Quillen's title reign but he's in tough so far
30:52Three punch combination, the right uppercut and the straight right by Quillen connects
30:56Left hand again by the challenger and the left has been there for Guerrero
31:01It has been there, he's got to come back with something else though
31:05But as you can see, Quillen doesn't even flinch when he takes the leather
31:09Because he's catching a lot of it too
31:11And Guerrero's slapping with his punches, that's part of the reason why the power's not there
31:15Some of them weave and some of them are caught in the gloves
31:17Because Quillen pretty much knows there's just going to be a jab and an overhand left
31:20Under a minute left in the fifth round
31:22High defense from Guerrero, wants to reset
31:25Quillen comes forward with the jab
31:28You saw Guerrero try a right hook, he's got to try a couple of different things
31:31And he has a good right hook, it was actually his signature punch early in his early fights
31:36Yeah, like most southpaws, he does possess a proficient right hook
31:40Although the straight right hand gets through for the champion
31:42The left again by Guerrero, so he is tagging the champion with those left hands
31:46Then goes downstairs to the body, misses with the left hook upstairs
31:51Nice one-two combination by Quillen
31:53As Guerrero on the ropes, 15 seconds left in the fifth round
32:00High volume now from Quillen, lands another straight right
32:04And it's all Peter Kid Chocolate Quillen here in Brooklyn, New York
32:17Beautiful, beautiful Petey, this kid can't even breathe
32:21Beautiful Petey, this kid can't even put a glove on you, you understand?
32:25Let your hands go son, you make it miss, make it pay now, alright?
32:30I want to see more combinations
32:32Earlier in the round, Fernando Guerrero had some moments
32:36As he tried to be aggressive
32:39Now there was the left hand, it didn't land perfectly
32:42But it at least made a little bit of a dent and he's trying to use his jab
32:47Later in the round though, as that left hand is short
32:51Peter Quillen working very well on the inside, better than we sometimes see
32:56And landing the right hand both from the uppercut and the straight right posture
33:05Quillen is dedicating his world title fight tonight to the victims
33:10And those impacted by the recent Boston Marathon bombings
33:14And their families as publicist Bob Trieger is from Boston
33:17So Boston strong as Quillen is very strong thus far in this title defense
33:21And I know I speak for everyone associated with Showtime Sports
33:24When I say our thoughts are also with those impacted by that tragedy
33:30Guerrero walked right across the ring there and shot an overhand left
33:33But again, you like to see something after that
33:36Good straight right by Quillen
33:38Pops, Guerrero's head back, Guerrero comes in with a lead right uppercut
33:41Leads a counter right hand by the champion
33:45Now Guerrero looking to establish the jab
33:48Peter Quillen, we talked about Guerrero hitting the canvas
33:51Quillen has never been down in his pro career
33:54So it's a daunting task for Guerrero
33:57Who's now getting way behind in the scorecards
34:00The only round that you might have thought of giving him was the fourth
34:05Left hook to the body, although it was on the beltline as the referee
34:10Admonishing the fighters to keep them up
34:12Harvey Dock, the third man in the ring
34:15Nice straight left by Guerrero, but eats a couple of punches from Quillen
34:19You heard trainer Eric Brown in the corner telling Quillen
34:21Listen, he can't touch you, now make him pay
34:24Well he is touching him, but he's not making him pay
34:28And now he's catching those punches on the arm
34:31And that's what Brown means, you're catching the D on them on defense
34:34Make him pay, come back with some counters
34:37Well Guerrero remains very game though, coming forward
34:40Trying his best to try to damp the armor of the champion
34:43Quillen tags him with that shot
34:46So Guerrero enjoying renewed life here in round 6
34:50But Quillen remaining steadfast
34:52In the pocket, gets tagged with that right hand
34:55Notice how it happened though, Guerrero threw a combination
34:57It wasn't just one punch or two punches
34:59He let his hands go, and the last shot landed
35:01Here comes Quillen again with the uppercut
35:03Lead right uppercut by the champion
35:05Guerrero's gotta keep him busy here
35:07And he is staying very busy now with the left hand
35:10Final minute of the 6th round
35:13Some good action here between Peter Quillen and Fernando Guerrero
35:16With the WBO middleweight title at stake
35:24That left hook was caught by the glove, but that one snuck through
35:27And Guerrero now, and Quillen trying to fight him off the ropes
35:31And Guerrero now
35:32Guerrero's feeling it
35:34He is enjoying it, putting on a show
35:36But you know about the histrionics
35:38And what they can do to you, you need to establish yourself first now
35:42Right, he's trying to show some bravado
35:44And those left hands sometimes don't land as well as they might
35:48But he's landed enough of them to potentially win this round
35:51And Quillen not coming back all the time
35:53So again, the activity is allowing Guerrero to win the round here
35:5715 seconds left in what has been a sizzling 6th round of action
36:05This championship bout heating up here in Brooklyn, New York
36:09Quillen vs. Guerrero
36:18A big crowd on hand in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn
36:21Including a huge boxing fan
36:23A multi-talented Rosie Perez, a Brooklyn native
36:26Who is hearing the cheer from the partisan crowd
36:29Desmond Howard, the Heisman Trophy winner in Superbowl
36:3231 MVP, one of only 4 football players to hold those credentials
36:36The Miracleman Danny Jacobs coming off a big win earlier tonight
36:40Bernard Hopkins, Father Time's biggest nemesis
36:44The IBF Light Heavyweight Champion
36:46Also in the crowd by the way, the great jazz musician Monty Alexander
36:50Is here, big boxer fan
36:52We are midway through this championship bout
36:54With the WBO middleweight crown up for grabs
36:57A good 6th round of action
37:00A good 6th round of action
37:02And probably the best round of the fight for the challenger
37:05To buttress that point, Guerrero landed 52% of his punches
37:0932 of 61 in the last round
37:12But, that's his power punches in round 7
37:16And I don't know if they all landed clean, but a lot of them did
37:19That was a big difference in the fight, it was the key, the activity
37:21And some were slaps, some weren't
37:23But here's the thing, he started the last round with a big overhand left
37:26He walked right across the ring
37:27This round, if you notice, he walked right across the ring into a big right hook
37:29Here's a lead, a left hand by the challenger
37:31But again, at 5'11", smaller than the champion
37:35He's leaning over and opening himself up to that uppercut pulling
37:38And he got hurt, but that's right
37:40And Guerrero stumbling into the corner
37:43Referee Harvey Dock
37:45His glove touched
37:465, 6, 7, 8
37:50Give me gloves, give me gloves
37:52You alright?
37:53Yeah
37:55I think the glove touched guys, so they're knocked out
37:57So ruled a knockdown by referee Harvey Dock
38:00The third knockdown of the fight
38:02The rope saved him, so it technically is a knockdown
38:06And so Quillen again establishing control here
38:09Coming forward with a flurry of punches
38:12That's the thing man, Quillen has that equalizer man
38:15Even if Guerrero can be busy, he's gotta be careful not to get caught clean
38:18And he gets caught with that right hand
38:20Down he goes for the fourth time tonight
38:22Referee waves off the fight
38:24Pete Quillen in the same building he won the championship
38:27And successfully maintains his hold on the gold
38:31And let's give Guerrero some credit man
38:33He toughed it out, he really did man
38:35He made a fight of it in the last couple of rounds
38:37He went out fighting
38:40Peter Quillen is setting up kind of an interesting scenario for himself
38:46He's a fighter who wins, looks semi-vulnerable occasionally in doing it
38:50And creates a lot of excitement
38:52A sweet victory for Kid Chocolate
38:54As Fernando Guerrero takes defeat for the second time in his career
39:02And while Pete Quillen grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan
39:06It was here in the New York area
39:08Where he endured many trials and tribulations
39:11Got his career on track
39:12And now at Wild Card West
39:14Comes back to Brooklyn the champion
39:16And will leave Brooklyn the champion
39:18Yeah, literally fighting his way to a better life
39:21One step at a time
39:26He recently proposed to his now fiancee Allison
39:29No wedding date set yet
39:31But she has to be very happy by what she saw
39:42And animated and excited Peter Quillen
39:44The first knockdown of that round
39:45It started with a big uppercut
39:47And that had Guerrero in trouble
39:49And then a right hand just behind the ear
39:51And correctly called a knockdown
39:53Because the ropes kept him up
39:55Even though referee Harvey Dock was turned
39:57And tripped when he didn't see it
40:00Now another look at how this happened
40:02The same knockdown
40:03The uppercut is really the punch, as I said before
40:07That kind of made the difference
40:09And then the straight rights followed
40:11And as Guerrero launched himself from the punch
40:16Into the turnbuckle
40:18A knockdown was called
40:20That was the first
40:21Now the second knockdown
40:23Which would end this fight
40:25Came, of course, courtesy of a right hand
40:27What else would it be?
40:29Now that one actually landed
40:31Kind of on the neck
40:32But at that point, Guerrero had been hurt
40:34By a couple of other punches
40:36And he never had his legs back
40:38Yeah, the southpaw's kryptonite
40:40That right hand spelled the end
40:41For the challenger Fernando Guerrero
40:44One more look at it
40:46Cole trying to land the left hook
40:48I think he was still hurt from the first knockdown
40:50Yes, I agree, Paulie
40:51And this one was just enough to send him down
40:53And guys, if you notice on the first knockdown
40:54It goes again to the point I was making before
40:56The straight left hand by Guerrero
40:58It was basically a one and a two
41:00Cole started timing it more and more as the fight went on
41:02He timed it with an uppercut
41:04The second knockdown
41:06As we look at it in multiple pictures
41:09And it was a right hand
41:11And as Paulie said
41:13Probably just finished off
41:15Damage had been done earlier
41:19Let's make it official with Jimmy Lennon Jr.
41:26Ladies and gentlemen
41:27We have a time of 1 minute 30 seconds
41:30In round number 7
41:32Our referee in charge, Harvey Dock
41:34Stops the contest
41:36He is the winner by way of technical knockout
41:38He is still undefeated
41:40And still
41:42The WBO middleweight champion of the world
41:46Kid Chocolate
41:48Peter Quillen
41:52Let's go inside the ropes
41:54To take a look at the four knockdowns
41:56This is his fight at Microcosm
41:58And we see the right hand of Peter Quillen
42:01This was the signature punch in this fight
42:04That came early
42:05And it showed that he was going to be able to zero in
42:08With that punch
42:09That was in the second round
42:10And then the right hand continued to rain terror
42:13On Fernando Guerrero
42:15Who especially early in those first couple rounds
42:17Was not able to diversify his attack
42:20And present Peter Quillen with anything to worry about defensively
42:24So he was able to land these right hands
42:26And continually knock Guerrero to the canvas
42:31And then finally
42:32The fight would end with yet another right hand
42:35Really launched to the side of the head
42:37Or more on the neck
42:39But at that point
42:40Serious damage had been done
42:42And the right hand of Quillen
42:44Was more than enough to end this fight
42:46And retain that title
42:53And the show stat numbers
42:55Demonstrate to us how effective Quillen was
42:58With his power punches
43:00Landing 49% of them
43:02And even though Guerrero landed 52% of his power punches
43:05Some of them were slaps
43:06They weren't as effective as Quillen
43:09Can I get a shot man?
43:11Alright now let's go back to Brian Kinney
43:15Thank you all
43:16Always a big slugging percentage for Kid Chocolate
43:19I like that t-shirt
