00:00Center at Techport in San Antonio, Texas. We are just about set to go with our second fight of the
00:04evening. This one, a battle of decorated amateurs, now undefeated professionals. Mirko Cuello and
00:12Rudy El Tiburon Garcia. Ten rounds scheduled in the featherweight division. And here's a look at
00:2126-year-old Rudy Garcia. Comes to us out of Los Angeles. He turned pro at the age of 19 years
00:28following a 156-fight amateur career that included a silver medal in the 2015 U.S.
00:35National Championships. While he's been a pro for seven years, he's only had 14 fights. And tonight
00:40comes off a 16-month layoff. Garcia's been training for the past three months at the TG Boxing Gym in
00:48L.A. It's his family's own gym and was open to keep kids off the streets. He's not a big puncher by his
00:54own admission. Witnessed the two KOs on his record. He says that's because he broke his right hand in the
01:00very first fight he had. And then he did it again in his fifth professional fight. Garcia adds, I can
01:06fight on the ropes or I can put pressure on the smart way. I'm not one of those fighters who likes
01:11to get hit. He idolizes Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez because he says Marquez was aggressive,
01:17technically sound. Keys for Garcia tonight. Box, stay off the ropes, and when you can,
01:24put the pressure on his man. So, BC, let's go behind the numbers with Rudy Garcia.
01:30Well, Barry, it's good to see Garcia back. You mentioned the 16-month layoff he staffs tonight.
01:34That's tied for the longest career, and it actually marks the third time in four years
01:38Garcia has been idol for at least one full year. Silver lining, though, to the fact that he has just
01:44two KOs in 14 pro fights, that means he has no short of experience having boxed twice as many
01:50pro rounds as Cuello in just two more fights overall. And how about this as a life lesson?
01:55Garcia began his amateur career with five straight defeats and considered walking away until his
02:00father, Rudy Sr., took over as trainer. From there, the two went 156 and 15 the rest of the way.
02:09Great story.
02:14And here's what he's up against tonight. 22-year-old Mirko Cuello coming to us from
02:22Argentina. Cuello was a standout over his 108 fight amateur career, of which 73 were at the
02:28international level. He represented Argentina in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1920, and he was a gold
02:34medalist in the WBA Future Champion Tournament that same year. Cuello comes off a first-round
02:40knockout at Uruguay. That was in July. Tonight, he fights for the fourth time this year. For this fight,
02:47Cuello had a 10-week training camp in his own Buenos Aires. Before coming north, he's also been
02:52fighting top competition in South America. His last five opponents, all of whom he knocked out,
02:58had a combined record of 83-8. He currently holds a South American featherweight title,
03:03and he successfully defended it twice. He's ranked number four by the WBA. We expect him to bring the
03:10fight to Garcia tonight. He is strong, very good body puncher, and obviously, judging by his record,
03:16pretty darn good finisher. BC, once again, let's go behind the numbers with Mirko Cuello.
03:21Well, Cuello has been busy. He turned pro in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 and never slowed down.
03:26Tonight marks his fourth fight of this calendar year alone, and his sixth fight over the past 15 months.
03:32And look at his passport. After turning pro on U.S. soil three years ago, Cuello has now fought
03:37professionally in six different countries over a span of 12 fights, including four times in his
03:42native Argentina. And with a KO percentage of 91.6, Cuello has only gone the distance once. Doesn't mean
03:49he's been matched soft, though. Tonight marks the fifth unbeaten foe he has faced in a two-year span.
03:54All right, that's the setup for our second fight of the evening. Mirko Cuello versus Rudy Garcia.
03:59Featherweights were scheduled for 10 rounds. With that, once again, we'll go to the center of the
04:04ring. The introduction of the fighters in this, our second fight. Here again is our ring announcer,
04:09Lupe Contreras.
04:10We continue with the action here at the Boeing Center at Tech Boyd. It is Showbox, the new generation.
04:20Proudly presented to you by Samson Boxing. Paco presents in association with Davies Entertainment,
04:26the Gomez Law Firm, and Showtime. Our officials at ringside supervising for the World Boxing
04:32Association, Julio Time. Our three judges scoring the action are Mark Colloy, Ellis Johnson, and Corey Santos.
04:42At the sound of the bell, the man in charge of the action is referee John Shoreley. This foul,
04:4910 rounds at stake. The WBA International Featherweight title presenting first the challenger.
04:56Standing in the red corner, he enters wearing cream with maroon trim on the scale. He registered an
05:03official 125 and one quarter pounds. Tonight, he entered the Showbox ring for the 15th time as a
05:10professional with an undefeated record of 13 victories. One bout even, two of his victories
05:16coming by way of KO. Fighting out of South Central Los Angeles, California, Rudy El Tiburon Garcia.
05:32His opposition across the ring in the blue corner. The defending champion, wearing white with blue and
05:38gold trim, he weighed in at an identical 125 and one quarter pounds. After an outstanding amateur career
05:44culminating in the ultimate honor of representing his homeland at the Tokyo Olympics. Now, he enters the
05:51ring, an undefeated professional with 12 victories. 11 of those victories coming by way of knockout tonight.
06:00Defending his WBA International Featherweight title from Arroyo Seco, Santa Fe, Argentina.
06:08Mirko Cuello.
06:13Mirko Cuello.
06:29Vamos.
06:31okay those are good those are good and those are good okay guys the wba title
06:36give me a good clean fight obey my commands protect yourselves at all times
06:39good luck take a look at the tail of the tape here in our co-feature
06:44similarities in height but you see that reach advantage four inches for rudy
06:49garcia and one more time the rules of the fight only the referee can stop the
06:57fight a fighter cannot be saved by the bell in the final round and it must
07:00complete four rounds before the fight is official so here we go round one we're
07:06going ten rounds in this one
07:10Garcia the boxer quail the banger
07:17early on quail working that jab which he doesn't always do some tendency to forget
07:24about it that's a sharp right hand from Garcia behind a good jab
07:30little uppercut from Garcia it's interesting that Garcia is pushing the pace so early because
07:38Cuello told us he's more of a slow starter that likes to take his time before sitting down on his power shots
07:43let's look at the amateur experience between them Cuello one of the most decorated in Argentine
07:49history of his 108 amateur fights 73 were on the international level but Garcia no slouch himself
07:55former member of the Mexican national team and there's the pro experience very similar in
08:01terms of total fights but you see the advantage for Garcia maybe that's the lack of power but he's gone
08:07much deeper into fights than quail and while you were talking quail with a sharp left hand he got Garcia
08:12turned a little bit so each man has felt the other in this first round yeah so far both fighters are
08:20trying to stand with that jab for quail it's a it's a hard jab like he wants to knock it out with that jab
08:26he wants to knock you out with every punch he throws yeah you're right and then for Garcia you know a more
08:30stable jab trying to measure the distance and put it out there they both have good jabs but if you see
08:38Garcia's coming up coming down with off the jab with more faster combinations so far here in the first
08:45round you know he's also swelling under the right eye of quail early in this fight not a problem right now but
08:52it's one of those things that could become a problem
08:55I think quail is a little bit tight tense and I believe he just loads up a little bit too much
09:06with his shots every shot is going for the knockout quick left hand from Garcia yeah and Garcia's
09:12countering very well he's boxing him from the inside giving him head movement uppercut in the left hand
09:18from Garcia if Garcia could fight like this for 10 rounds and it's going to be a long night for
09:24quail right hand of the body right hand left hand of the body from quail good news for Garcia
09:31considering his long layoff is that he's out to such a sharp start but can he keep up this pace
09:36he's done in all those other fights I think he's been as strong at the end as he has been at the
09:41beginning but your point is well taken what about the layoff oh nice body shot there by Garcia working
09:46the body early showing that experience you got to invest early in body shots especially with a guy
09:52like way you got to stop that that momentum that he's got that strength and power oh excuse me a
10:00little bit of a cut opening up below the right eye of quail yeah is it a cut I thought it was
10:04a cut that was a pull out of the right eye of quail yeah is it a cut I went out of the left hand
10:11but I think you might be right action first round
10:14whoo
10:17yeah
10:19yeah
10:20yeah
10:24yeah
10:26yeah
10:28yeah
10:30yeah
10:31yeah
10:32yeah
10:34I like to throw a lot of uppercuts, you know, a lot of hooks, you know, lift hooks.
11:03Stuff like that, a jab, you know, just switch it up, you know, and that'll scramble, I'm
11:11sure, his game plan a little bit, you know.
11:14Well, they had a pretty good first round, I thought.
11:18They did tell Garcia to keep boxing him, and I agree, he's got to keep boxing him, moving
11:22and keep him lateral movement, punch from different angles.
11:26He's a good little boxer from what I've seen in Garcia.
11:29And it was, I think, a swelling under the eye of Cuella.
11:33They got the hand squirt pretty quickly.
11:35I didn't see that they were working on him, but.
11:43Overhand right there that got in over the glove.
11:45You may have seen the familiar face in Cuella's corner to hardcore boxing fans.
11:53It's Mariano Carrera, a 2000 Olympian for Argentina, but most well-known for knocking out Javier Castileo
12:00in 2006 and claiming the WBA middleweight title.
12:03That's right.
12:03There's a left hand from Cuella.
12:07There's a left hand behind it from Cuella.
12:10I think Garcia got the fits of the combination.
12:25Cuella might have hurt Garcia with a left hook to the body, it seemed like it, cause you saw
12:33Garcia grab him right away.
12:47Garcia grab him right away Garcia's gonna have to be careful and how much you
12:52want to wake the Beast here in Cuello because if this can become an action
12:55play one of these guys has much bigger weapons in his hands than the other I
12:59just saw Cuello land another lift hook to the body
13:03Cuello's a heavy-handed puncher there's no question about that
13:08I believe Garcia really is feeling the power of Cuello now in this round the body
13:31shots more the body shots than the head shots
13:34yeah Cuello I sense a little bit of urgency in Cuello now which wasn't there
13:42in the first round
13:44Garcia comes up with an uppercut
13:45big right hand from Cuello
13:51oh look at that left hook doubling up
13:55I think your point is well taken here Brian I think Garcia's really trying to battle him on even ground
14:00we'll see if that's a good idea
14:02oh right hand right over the glove of Cuello
14:09legitimate cut over the left eye of Garcia
14:11and it appears to be above the eye where you got to stay on that line
14:19you got to stay on that line okay
14:21you're doing good the only way when you're not moving your head
14:37you're getting caught
14:38don't get caught with any punches okay you can see him
14:40yeah are you good
14:41I'm good okay so keep boxing him okay you keep boxing him
14:45don't stay inside at all at all okay okay
15:01keep touching him
15:02and we see Cuello really getting leverage off of that
15:05leverage off of that left hand over the top
15:08and there's that left hook that we've been talking about did a lot of damage
15:12that left hook to the body bit Barry heard Garcia many times in the last round
15:17this is round three remember we're going ten here
15:20Garcia's corner they wanted a box
15:22yeah they want Garcia to box but
15:30but Cuello's forcing him to stop and trade
15:34well when he throws that jab
15:37that jab
15:38very explosive and
15:41sharp pinpoint
15:42pinpoint jab
15:43behind it
15:43that's it
15:46that's it
15:48that's it
15:48don't worry
15:49don't worry
15:49don't worry
15:50keep doing that
15:51keep doing that
15:52keep doing that
15:52that's it
15:52that's it
15:53right hand of the body
15:55right under the armpit
15:56that time by Garcia
15:57and that cut over the left eye
15:59could become a problem for him
16:02well there now appears to be a cut on the
16:04middle of the nose of Garcia as well
16:06so the effect of those power shots from Cuello starting to add up
16:10double jab that time from Cuello
16:17two body shots from Garcia
16:22yeah but now you see Garcia's punches
16:24not doing nothing to Cuello
16:27Cuello just walking up
16:28walking him down
16:29walking up to him
16:30preparing those shots
16:31those power shots
16:32look he's looking for openings
16:34watch Cuello
16:35he's coming with that left foot
16:36well he asked Cuello about his boxing heroes
16:39he said he fashions his style
16:40after two fighters
16:41he likes the skill of Vasily Lomachenko
16:44and the power of the late Edwin Valero
16:46that
16:47that's pretty good
16:48dangerous combination
16:49to try to live up to
16:51let's see if it was off his heels
17:02there was a little swelling out of the left eye
17:10the right eye rather of Cuello
17:12but that was the first round
17:14it's no worse now
17:15Garcia better keep that right hand up because
17:19Cuello has a really sneaky left hook just out of nowhere
17:24I've seen him knock guys out
17:26with the left hook
17:28and I feel like he's preparing that hook
17:29look at the way he covers up
17:31nice frame defense
17:32oh
17:33and that may be a knockdown
17:34let's see
17:35his knee hit the canvas
17:37legally I believe that's a knockdown
17:41unless it was a push
17:42believe it was a slip
17:43the action should have been stopped
17:44yes
17:45fighters gloves to be cleaned off
17:46and restarted
17:48touch him
17:49touch him
17:50touch him
17:51use the heartbeat
17:53use the heartbeat
17:54for John Shortley letting the action continue
17:56he's going to be interested to take a look at that
18:07go back there
18:14that's it
18:19perfect
18:20that's all you have to do
18:22I don't want you on the inside
18:23okay
18:23okay
18:23I don't want you on the inside
18:24you know why
18:25big breath when I'm back to you
18:29I need the other bucket
18:35big breath
18:38keep touching him
18:38no me baje la mano
18:40no me baje esta mano
18:41regresenla para atrás
18:42usa todo el ring
18:43no te quieran los ropes
18:44you're fighting them
18:45this is a perfect
18:46perfect looking round
18:48you're connecting them
18:49every time you miss them
18:50get in that rhythm
18:51okay
18:51you got it Rudy
18:52you want that bell
18:53then you gotta be smart
18:55here we see where we thought
19:04it was a knockdown
19:05and it looked like the feet got tangled a little bit
19:08and I mean he did touch the right
19:11it popped right back up
19:13it was a cuffing shot
19:14really to the side or back of the head
19:16tough to call in real time
19:18but I don't know
19:20I'm going to say that was a knockdown
19:23not scored a knockdown
19:26absolutely
19:27but what's interesting is that did feel like a quail round
19:30although it was Garcia
19:31if that should have been scored a knockdown
19:33that could have been a swing
19:34yeah
19:35stay working
19:36stay working
19:36yeah the referee should at least clean the gloves
19:39and let it you know
19:39he slipped or whatever it was
19:41get on the line
19:46get on the line
19:46keep touching them
19:47keep touching them
19:48keep touching them
19:48keep touching them
19:50keep touching them
19:50keep touching them
19:50keep touching them
19:52Cuello going for that home run
19:53with that left hook
19:54that's it
19:54that's it
19:55well we talked to Cuello this week
19:57and brought up the reputation
19:58of Argentine fighters
19:59they're gauchos
19:59they go after it
20:00yeah
20:01you know what he told us
20:01I am not the exception to the rule
20:03well we're seeing it right now
20:06I think he telegrams that left hook sometimes
20:11a little bit too much
20:12sometimes it looks nice and sharp
20:15and explosive
20:16but oh he just missed that big left hook
20:19that's the kind of left hook I'm looking for
20:21I want to bring Steve Farhad in
20:23for just a moment
20:24our unofficial score
20:25Steve
20:25how did you see
20:27and you're the rules meister here
20:29how did you see that
20:30was it a slip
20:31was it a knockdown
20:32well I think it certainly
20:34could have been called a knockdown
20:35but the important thing Barry
20:36is that it wasn't called a knockdown
20:38even if all three judges
20:40were convinced
20:40that it was a knockdown
20:42they have to score it
20:43the way the referee saw it
20:44and the referee ruled no knockdown
20:46so no knockdown
20:48and I agree with Brian
20:50I think it was Cuello's round
20:51I get it around to Cuello as well
20:55we'll get to your scorecard
20:56in just a couple of minutes
20:57thanks Steve
20:57surely as a referee
21:03has also let him wrestle on the inside
21:05it's been four times
21:06that at least one fighter
21:07has fallen to the canvas
21:08from that clinch position
21:09good right hand
21:10that time from Cuello
21:11Garcia bounces right back
21:13I think he got
21:16Garcia's attention
21:17with that shot though
21:18well Garcia's smart enough
21:23every time he gets caught
21:24he holds on to
21:25Cuello to stop his momentum
21:27but not sure how long
21:30he's going to be able to hold on
21:31like that as the rounds go
21:32with that power that Cuello has
21:34that's when he turned him
21:37came back with a couple of shots
21:38nothing big
21:39man
21:47take it
21:48take it
21:49take it
21:50take it
21:50yeah
21:51Garcia to keep touching
21:53keep touching
21:53not every shot
21:54has to be hard
21:56just like that jab
21:57but it gets combinations ready
21:59he's got to be
21:59He's got more flashy, throw more combinations.
22:02And a left hand from Cuello.
22:04But I think he feels Cuello's power bearing.
22:06There was another left hand from Cuello.
22:08And a right hand from Cuello.
22:11Now, the one thing I do want to say is that
22:12they've done a pretty good job on that cut with Garcia.
22:15Did not bleed at all in that round.
22:29He wants him to throw a one, two, get the distance.
22:57He said feint and then throw a left hook.
22:59He said feint and then throw a right hook.
23:01He said feint and then throw a right hook.
23:03He said feint and then throw a right hook.
23:13Someone come to round five.
23:20Again, right hand.
23:22Just clipped the chin of Garcia from Cuello.
23:26A little post-script to what I mentioned of Cuello's
23:29trainer Carrera earlier.
23:30Although he won a middleweight world title in 2006.
23:32He failed a drug test afterwards and was stripped of the belt
23:35and was knocked out by Castellelo in the rematch.
23:38That's it.
23:39Keep touching.
23:40Keep touching.
23:41Keep touching.
23:42Keep touching.
23:43Keep touching.
23:44Keep touching.
23:45Let's go.
23:46Keep touching.
23:47Keep touching.
23:48Let's go.
23:49Let's go.
23:50Let's go.
23:51Let's go.
23:52Let's go.
23:53Watch your card, Steve.
23:54How are you seeing this so far?
23:55Well, the reason I've given Cuello a couple of close rounds,
23:59Barry, in the second and third, we're both very close.
24:02He's throwing the harder punches, no doubt.
24:04But I think Garcia is beginning to get a lot of his punches
24:07blocked by Cuello.
24:08The jab is getting through, but not the power shot.
24:11So Cuello, the harder puncher and at times the more accurate puncher.
24:14I have him at 39-37, rerounds to one after four.
24:18All right.
24:19Thanks very much, Steve.
24:20So it's still a gettable fight for Garcia if he could turn things around.
24:24That's it.
24:25Well, Garcia told us he thinks the inactivity inside the ring of Cuello
24:30is his opening to outwork him and win a decision.
24:32The difference, though, in the power, you can see the judges taking notice
24:36in that.
24:37Yeah.
24:38Keep touching.
24:39That's it.
24:40I'm going to see him moving pretty well.
24:53I'm just kind of staying busy.
24:56Hang on!
24:57Hang on!
24:58Hang on!
24:59Hang on!
25:00Hang on!
25:01Hang on!

25:16Hang on!
25:17Hang on!
25:18Hang on!
25:19Hang on!
25:20Hang on!
25:21Hang on!
25:22Hang on!
25:23Hang on!
25:24It's not a knockdown.
25:25Three...
25:26Three,
25:27Four,
25:28Five,
25:29Six,
25:30Seven,
25:31Eight...
25:32That looked very push-like to me.
25:33It didn't look like a knockdown.
25:34It looked like Garcia was desperately trying to clinch with him,
25:35and he stumbled as Cuello took a step back.
25:36Yeah, every time Cuello catches Cuello with some good, solid shots,
25:37Good body shot there.
25:39That's it.
25:40Very good body shot.
25:41Really holding on.
25:42Look at it.
25:44Here come the tiburón.
25:51The shark.
25:54Talking about Cuello.
25:56Well, the shark here is Garcia,
25:59and if he doesn't get a back off the ropes,
26:01he's gonna be in trouble.
26:03I thought, to me, Cuello was the tiburón.
26:08Just missed with that.
26:09The shark is on the run.
26:10You're right, Brian.
26:14Well, that makes it a big round.
26:15Yeah.
26:16To Cuello.
26:17Don't worry.
26:18You keep doing your work, okay?
26:19You keep doing your work.
26:20How you feel?
26:21Good.
26:22Okay.
26:23No te preocupes.
26:24No te preocupes.
26:25It's on the lockdown.
26:26Say not to worry.
26:27Don't worry.
26:28How do you...
26:29What?
26:30No te preocupes.
26:31Don't worry.
26:32You gotta stay busy with that jab and boxing him.
26:34Keep jabbing and boxing.
26:35No importa.
26:36Ya llevamos como tres rounds.
26:37Okay?
26:38Okay?
26:39Okay.
26:40So you gotta keep jabbing him.
26:43We're gonna get a chance to look at what was or wasn't a knockdown.
26:47You tell me.
26:49I don't think so.
26:50Yeah.
26:51Garcia was just trying to hold on and he ran out of...
27:04I mean, he couldn't hold on to him.
27:05He just fell down and fell over.
27:06Well, it's the second time Shirley's been involved in a knockdown call which could affect the scoring
27:16in this fight.
27:17And I think he's 0 for 2.
27:19All right.
27:20Once again, let's bring in Steve Farwood.
27:22Steve, tell me about this one.
27:25Controversy here, Barry.
27:27That was a 10-8 round.
27:28I mean, I don't think it was a knockdown, but it was scored as such and the judges have
27:32to score it that way.
27:33Quello was winning the round anyway, so 10-8 for Quello in round five.
27:37Yep.
27:38I don't think you can see it any other way.
27:40It pretty much has to be.
27:41Thank you, Steve.
27:42Garcia's still trying, but now a long uphill battle for him.
27:56That was low.
28:02Okay?
28:03Yeah, I'm good.
28:04Okay.
28:05Hey.
28:06Well, he's gonna continue.
28:07He could've stopped.
28:08Could've got it back together a little bit more.
28:09That was on the gloves.
28:10Man, Quello, look at that.
28:11Now he continues with that solid, hard tap, Barry.
28:12Inside, a three-punch combination from Garcia.
28:13Quello's the type of fighter that gets stronger in the second half and sits down more on his
28:29power shots.
28:30If Garcia can't give him any pause by landing something of consequence, the second half is
28:35in trouble for him.
28:36Yeah, starting to be a dominant performance from Quello.
28:42You can see the power, the strength of Quello.
28:48Look at that overhand right.
28:52How is that?
28:53Could've done that.
28:54Okay?
28:55Can I see that him?
28:56Can I see that?
28:57Okay?
28:58Here, I could've seen that.
28:59Oh!
29:00Good wow.
29:01Can you see that?
29:02Yes.
29:03But he believes sitting down on his punches hinders his movement in terms of the flow of what he likes to do in the ring.
29:11Yeah, right now, really starting to show, I think, because he doesn't offer much resistance to Cuello.
29:19And as you pointed out, Ryan, Cuello feels like he can just walk right through it now.
29:33Come on, Rune. Come on, Rune. Come on. Come on. Let's go. Let's go.
29:50One, two, five. One, two, five. One, two, five. Keep working.
29:53A lot of those shots from Garcia really not doing much, missing or just touching Cuello's gloves.
29:59Uppercut right there from Cuello. Snap the head of Garcia back.
30:13Again, Garcia being game, but not doing enough to win the rounds.
30:23Let's take a look at the show stats through six rounds.
30:26Talk about total punches. The edge is just by three for Cuello.
30:31It's close there. But what the judges have to figure out is what makes a punch.
30:35Will the softer jabs of Garcia be outscored by the big power shots of Cuello
30:40as he continues to step up the pressure in the second half of this fight?
30:47Well, here we see Cuello. I think he needs to bring it.
30:51Go for broke in the second half of the fight.
30:53A lot of body work. Hit the arms. I see Garcia wearing down.
30:57I think if he really puts that pressure, a lot more pressure, and cuts off the ring,
31:02he might be able to get him out of there now.
31:03For Garcia, he's got a box. He can't stand in front of Cuello
31:07because if he does that, he's going to get knocked out.
31:08So he's got to go in and out and box it.
31:10Just keep moving with the jab in combination.
31:13Time, time. Hold on.
31:15Time in.
31:16Come on, Rudy.
31:17We talked about it. Had a very long amateur career.
31:26At 16 years old, he knocked out the champion of Cuba.
31:30At 16, those guys are usually about 35, weren't they?
31:35And that tells you how much power he's got because were you knocking guys out in the amateurs?
31:39With a headgear on?
31:43Well, he's adapted nicely to the pro style, and his trainer career said he's got instinct,
31:47he's got power, he's technical, and oh, by the way, not only does he have way of us,
31:51he's got too many of them, and he does seem to be like a second-half finisher
31:56and somebody who steps up on that gas as the rounds go on.
31:59Yeah, I would say still a work in progress, but got the goods.
32:03I got you. I got you.
32:11Keep touching it. Keep touching it, baby.
32:24Nice head movement by Cuoio, though.
32:27Trying to counter over the top.
32:28Trying to give him different looks.
32:34Stop.
32:35Rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling, rolling.
32:42Big left hand there from Cuoio.
32:44It took a left hand from Garcia as well.
32:45There's a right hand at the top of the head.
32:47You know, we want to take a minute to give a shout-out to one of our own here on Showbox,
32:52Joe McSorley, our ace audio man.
32:54He's at home tonight recuperating from the surgical procedure.
32:58Joe, you are missed by all of us for keeping your chair warm for you, though, pal.
33:04Hurry back to us.
33:18Cuoio's head movement is taking away Garcia's jab,
33:20and if the jab isn't there, what is Garcia landing to turn this fight around?
33:27It seems like it's getting easier for Cuoio to cut that distance.
33:30You know, he's getting closer.
33:31Closing that gap.
33:33Just a little short with that hook.
33:35Cuoio really disguises that jab and turns it into almost a shovel uppercut punch.
33:39You know, the thing is, Garcia has landed some shots during this fight,
33:46but they're just, they're not powerful power shots.
33:51Yeah, you know, his power is not getting Cuoio's respect,
33:55and that's why you see Cuoio just walking up to him, very confident,
33:59walking him down, breaking him down.
34:03That's it, it was a four-punch combination.
34:05But no power to eat, can't get that respect.
34:09Cuoio's still going after him.
34:14That wasn't a bad round for Garcia.
34:17Yeah.
34:22Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:23Yeah.
34:24Yeah.
34:24Yeah.
34:25Yeah.
34:25Yeah.
34:26Yeah.
34:27Yeah.
34:27Yeah.
34:28Yeah.
34:29Yeah.
34:30Yeah.
34:32Yeah.
34:33You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:40You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:40You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:42You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:43You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:44You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:45You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:46You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:47You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:48You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:49You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:50You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:52You got to win the round more clearly, he's telling them.
34:54You got to stay busy.
35:00Put your hands up.
35:04Rudy!
35:09Rudy!
35:13Come on, Rudy.
35:17So this is round eight of this ten-rounder.
35:22My Spanish to English translation skills really aren't there,
35:25but I'll tell you, Garcia's corner was very animated
35:27in the first 20 seconds of that one-minute break,
35:30almost imploring him to try to come up with something
35:33to turn this fight around.
35:37I mean, he's been absolutely gay, man.
35:40He's thrown as many punches as Cuero.
35:43Oh, there's that left hand.
35:45And that backed Garcia out for one of the few times in this fight,
35:48chopping right hand.
35:50And now we see Garcia holding on again.
35:55He just can't deal with Garcia's, I mean, Cuero's power and strength.
35:59Yeah, Cuero's just stepping to it right now.
36:02This is where Cuero needs to take more advantage in,
36:05because I feel like Garcia's fading.
36:09Now that cut over the eye of Garcia has opened up again.
36:13What a blow.
36:14I'm sure they'll look at this between rounds.
36:17See the history of the two fighters going deep late into fights.
36:20Not much experience for Cuero, who has the big knockout numbers.
36:23Garcia, however, unbeaten in fights that have gone eight rounds or more.
36:28A sharp jab again by Garcia, but it is just a case of too little.
36:44Not enough popping his shots.
36:46That cut really opening up now.
36:59Yeah, it really is.
37:00I mean, I think this fight would be well-stopped between rounds, to be honest.
37:05Still a minute to go here in round eight.
37:19Garcia's still trying, but...
37:21Yeah, he's showing a lot of heart.
37:23A lot of heart by Garcia.
37:25And again, an uppercut, and the uppercut got there,
37:27but a better shot at the right hand from Cuero.
37:30Garcia's bleeding as he gets hit with hard shots,
37:32and he's still coming back with something, but...
37:34No, he's got...
37:35But no power again.
37:36No, nothing on his shots that keeps Cuero from just walking him down.
37:41No, he's nothing about a tough guy.
37:43I mean, you got to give him a lot of credit.
37:45Still trying.
37:47Got him there with a one-two coming in.
37:55You can't underestimate what the visual
37:57of just seeing these jabs snap the head back of Garcia does to the judges.
38:01Yeah.
38:02That's a Cuero miss when Garcia came right back with the right hand.
38:17Oh!
38:18Hey!
38:19Hey!
38:20Hey!
38:21Hey!
38:22Hey!
38:23Hey!
38:24Hey!
38:25Hey, hey, hey!
38:27They're telling them not to drop your hands at all, for nothing.
38:50Last on the come, our main event of the evening, Rafael Pedroza and Ramon Cardenas.
38:56Cardenas, a local guy.
38:58Pedroza making his first appearance here in the United States from his native Panama.
39:02We're going ten rounds in the super bantamweight bout.
39:05Again, it's a contrast of styles, which should make it an interesting fight.
39:20Eighth round of this ten-round fight.
39:24Here's what I want to see from Cuello down the stretch of this fight.
39:35Does he have that finishing instinct?
39:37Can he go after it?
39:39Garcia not throwing much.
39:40That's giving him any bother in terms of forward movement.
39:43Can Cuello step in and get him out of here?
39:46I believe if Cuello lets his punches go, more speed, more speed.
39:51Flurries and then power.
39:52Change up the speed of the combinations.
39:54You know, a lot of speed.
39:55He's heavy-handed already.
39:56And then trying to go for the home run, he might be able to stop him.
39:59As we said earlier, I think Cuello's still a work in progress here.
40:05Steve, how are you seeing this so far?
40:12You know, Garcia's had his moments, but Cuello's winning rounds with body shots.
40:16He's winning rounds with jabs.
40:17He's winning rounds with power shots to the head.
40:19And Garcia just doesn't have the power.
40:21The difference in power is really the difference in the fight to me.
40:24I have Cuello ahead 79-72, seven rounds to one.
40:29Hard to argue with that, Steve.
40:33And again, that time Garcia was first, but it almost doesn't matter.
40:42And he caught him, but then you have to think, you know,
40:44when you fight a guy that does have power and he gets caught with shots like that,
40:47that could change the direction of the fight, Barry,
40:50because there were some pretty solid shots that Garcia caught him with.
40:53Yeah.
40:54Imagine if Garcia had the power that Cuello had.
40:56I mean, that would put some hurt on Cuello for sure,
40:59with those shots that Garcia caught him with.
41:01Well, and I think that's one of the things that Cuello's people are gonna talk about.
41:05You're getting hit by a guy who theoretically at least can't hurt you,
41:09but you're still getting hit.
41:10Right.
41:11Especially late in the fight.
41:14That's when knockouts happen out of nowhere, so.
41:18And it's experience.
41:19I mean, he's still young.
41:20He's learning.
41:21Another learning experience for Cuello.
41:24And Cuello with the right hand of Monte Valley,
41:28and I think Garcia's attention.
41:30Garcia's still plenty of time in this round.
41:3240 seconds.
41:34Assoc."
41:35Correno!
41:36Hey, Hey, Hey!
41:37Hey!
41:38Hey, Hey!
41:43Hey, Here we go.
41:44Yarrow's cutting off the ring.
41:45He's just not making Garcia pay when his back is to the ropes.
41:49Great.
41:50Great.
41:51Gracias, gracias.
41:52Jess, congrats,ffic.
41:53Ray!
41:55Higher!
41:57Yes, that's what I'm looking for.
41:58But it's experience.
41:59See, there's no reason to load up.
42:01He's really trying too hard for the knockout.
42:04That's what it is.
42:04And then Garcia turned to him
42:05and got there with a shot, you know?
42:07So those are all things that Enquanto is going to need to learn.
42:10No doubt.
42:11Everything good?
42:27He said, yeah, you're fine.
42:38It's the last round.
42:39It's the last round.
42:41After all, the fury.
42:44Okay.
42:45You keep touching, we're gonna stay right around.
42:49Okay.
42:49Open your eyes.
43:01Último round.
43:01Dale.
43:02Muy bien.
43:04Vamos.
43:06Va saliendo desesperado el guay, okay?
43:09Bien cerradico.
43:10Last round.
43:15Final three minutes of this fight.
43:24Come on, Roday.
43:25Right hand, back of the ear at that time by Quayle.
43:28Come on, Roday.
43:34Just the second time Quayle has reached the 10th round of his pro career.
43:48He's trying to get there with combinations now.
43:51Tell you what, he's definitely in great shape.
43:52Quayle, no question.
43:56It's wild at times, too.
43:58That's another thing, but it's a learning.
44:00It's a progress.
44:01It's a...
44:02See, right there, he could come back with a left hook, right hand, up, look at more flurries.
44:11When he go back and look at this, he'll be like, yes.
44:14Oh, yeah, lots to learn.
44:15Lots to learn for him in this fight.
44:16And he'll get out of the eye to recover you.
44:19Right.
44:21A little bit rushing.
44:23He rushes, but then he tries to land one or two hard shots.
44:29See, right there, one-two, then jump on him with flurries.
44:32Back drills, you know, I call that, you throw 15 seconds hard shots, 15 seconds flurries.
44:3715 seconds in hard shots, then flurries.
44:39That's where they come in effect.
44:43Quayle missing wildly with that right hand.
44:44Still trying for that one-punch finish.
44:47Yeah.
44:50Garcia, nothing if not tough.
44:53He's taking everything Quayle has to offer.
44:55Garcia's got Widely Veteran written all over.
44:59Yep.
45:00No stranger going deep into fights.
45:03Just didn't have the firepower to really make a dent in this one.
45:06That's really the difference in the fight.
45:07He's got his hand touched.
45:29You see, now, he's trying too hard.
45:38He's telegraphing all those shots.
45:40All Garcia has to do is move, take a step to the right, left, and he's going to miss.
45:44Because Quayle's telegraphing.
45:49Not taking anything away from him.
45:50He completely won this fight.
45:52Oh, yeah.
45:52But if you want to learn and get better, that's what he needs to do.
45:56Because later on, he'll fight a guy that will have movements like Garcia.
46:00We'll put combinations together like Garcia and bring power with those shots.
46:04Final ten seconds of this fight.
46:07Quayle trying to still close the deal.
46:09And Garcia having none of it.
46:14Absolutely game, Rudy Garcia.
46:19I'll be in a losing effort.
46:34So, the judges will tell you this one.
46:44I don't think there's a big doubt about how this went.
46:47I don't think there's a big doubt about how this went.
47:17There are cards.
47:18We're going to take a look at the final numbers from our show stats.
47:23The total punches landed was close throughout this fight.
47:26You can see Quayle taking home a clear advantage there at the end.
47:29Connecting on nearly 40% of his power shots overall.
47:32And nearly doubling the body attack of Garcia.
47:39Let's take a look back at the biggest moments in this fight.
47:41First, how is one-sided in a way Quayle made it with his power shots?
47:45There were some key moments, some minor controversy.
47:48This appears to be the shot in round two that opened up the cut on the eye of Garcia.
47:52As you see, he stumbled to the canvas.
47:54We saw that four times in the first three rounds alone where at least one fighter went down.
47:58Round three, though.
48:00Garcia may have gotten a raw deal.
48:01A cuffing punch with the left hand that appeared to be a knockdown that could have swung the round in his favor.
48:07Although referee John Shirley didn't rule it here.
48:09But as we advanced to round five, Garcia tried to clinch Quayle.
48:13Went to a knee.
48:14Ruled a knockdown by Shirley in a 10-8 round for Quayle.
48:18But in the second half of this fight, even though Garcia would have moments, even though his volume was high,
48:23you see the low blow as Quayle went to the body.
48:26The bigger, more telling punches throughout.
48:29That move, Garcia, were simply landed by Quayle.
48:32Not a perfect outing.
48:34He did what he had to do with the bigger set of weapons in this one.
48:38Didn't stop going for broke leg, looking for the knockout that ultimately was not there to be found.
48:44All right.
48:44I don't think the decision is much in doubt, but we take it to the center of the ring.
48:47Lupe controls to make it all official.
48:49Lupe.
48:52After going all ten rounds here at the Boeing Center at Techport,
48:55all three judges are in complete agreement with identical scores of 99 to 90
49:00in favor of the winner by way of unanimous decision.
49:05Still, the WBA international featherweight champion from Argentina,
49:14Mirko Cuello.
49:18Tom Mirko Cuello, a clear winner by unanimous decision over a tough guy.
49:26Rudy Garcia hung in there, did everything he could to win the fight.
49:29He talked to us, Garcia did, about being a family guy.
49:32You see, he's in the ring with his daughter now.
49:34He said that changed his life.
49:36That fueled the 16-month layoff that he had coming into this fight,
49:39but a game performance for Garcia despite that.
49:42I thought so, too.
49:42In the meantime, Cuello, guy to keep an eye on.
49:45He's got the skills.
49:46There's no question about it.
49:47He's got the goods.
49:48Well, he was a good amateur.
49:49He definitely got the skills.
49:50I saw a lot of talent in him.
49:51He's got the power, for sure.
49:53That's what you want to see in the pros.
49:55You want to see people knock other fighters out.
49:57But, you know, he's going to learn from this fight, Barry.
49:59He's going to get better, made some mistakes, but that's for the good.
50:02I'm sure he's going to go back and watch and say,
50:04maybe I could have gotten him out of there if I put more punches together.
50:07All right, let's bring in Steve Farhood.
50:09Steve, give us your card.
50:10We know the official cards as well.
50:12And an overall impression.
50:14Well, Cuello was very impressive because of the way he won
50:17the rounds, Barry.
50:18I think he won them with jabs.
50:20Those jabs for a power puncher were impressive.
50:23Body punching, which Garcia did very little of.
50:25So Cuello dominated on my card.
50:28I did give Garcia two rounds.
50:30That's one more round than the three official judges gave him.
50:33We take a look at the official cards.
50:35And what you'll see is that 99.90 on all three cards, one judge gave Garcia the first, one judge gave Garcia the second, and one judge gave Garcia the third.
50:47And that's all he won.
50:47And it wasn't enough.
50:48So that's the story of this fight.
50:50Thank you, Steve.
50:51A very unanimous decision for Mirko Cuello.
50:56And, again, we'll see him again.
50:59He's another guy.
50:59There's no question he's going to improve, and he's got the inherent skills.
51:02And oftentimes that's the difference, right?
51:04Well, they got something here.
51:05They got something to work with in this young Argentine fighter.
51:07We know the amateur background.
51:08Some things to work on through 12 Pro Fights.
51:11Not a finished product, but a little bit of flash.
51:14A little bit of, hey, let's keep an eye on this guy as he moves forward.
51:16All right, two down, one to go on this triple header.
51:20Our main event still to come from here at the Boeing Center at Techport in San Antonio.
51:24Unbeaten Rafael Pedroza facing once-beaten Ramon Cardenas in a super bantamweight fight scheduled for 10 rounds.

51:41Get an inside look at the buildup as these two undisputed champions prepare to face off live on Showtime pay-per-view, September 30th.
51:51Here's an excerpt.
51:52Call it purposeful ego or defiance born deep.
52:09Whatever the impetus, two undisputed share the same superpower.
52:16An insatiable desire for more.
52:20Still, with these venerable slash volatile champions, don't mistake fame or follower counts for anywhere close to complete.
52:29Sure, Canelo Alvarez and Jermel Charlo have proven most everything.
52:36But what they've proven more than anything else is there's always something more to see.
52:43Canelo made his boxing bones in the risk business.
52:47His fists, blueprints for money making.
52:50His career, a series of epic trials.
52:52His opponent believes views of his legacy remain at least incomplete.
53:10The concept applicable to anyone unknown or incapable of fully witnessing his greatness.
53:15But this lion won't have to roar against perceived injustices much longer.
53:21Not when he can answer them emphatically inside a boxing ring in Las Vegas on September 30th.
53:28I got a chip.
53:29It comes from people that didn't believe that I would be where I'm at.
53:32It's not no daring to be great.
53:34It's about going to be great.
53:36I'm in the wide open right now.
53:38This is my moment.
53:39But such drive is not without downsides.
53:45And the risks only intensify over time.
53:49But that's also precisely the point.
53:52The hunt is never complete.
53:55There's always something more to reach for.
53:57By anyone with the will and skill necessary.
