00:00Hi, how are you?
00:09Good, thank you so much. How are you today?
00:11I'm good. So you're wearing a pearl necklace.
00:14Have you bought it here or you got it from your country?
00:17This is actually from my home country,
00:19but I've recently learned that Hyderabad is the pearl city.
00:22So yesterday I did buy a string of pearls
00:25to remind me of the beautiful memories
00:27made here in Telangana in Hyderabad.
00:29But this is from back home.
00:31Are you going to gift these pearl necklaces for your family or friends?
00:35I am definitely going to be sharing it with my mother.
00:38We are both jewellery lovers
00:40and I'm sure she would appreciate it as much as I do.
00:42So you're here for the Miss World contestant.
00:45So how are you feeling the event? How is it going on?
00:48It has been such an enlightening experience.
00:52Miss World has taught me a lot about myself.
00:54It has taught me a lot about purpose
00:56and it has taught me a lot about the world.
00:58One beautiful thing about this contest is that it gives a sense of sportsmanship.
01:03I call it a festival and it's because we see so many celebrations going on.
01:07We see celebrations of unity, we see celebrations of purpose
01:12and being able to come together in collaboration
01:15and share that sense of cultural understanding is an honour to be a part of.
01:19So I've been having a great time.
01:22So you have been here from last one week, I think so.
01:24That's right.
01:25So have you made any friendship with other countries, people?
01:28Is there any person become your closest?
01:30Absolutely. I have had the privilege of speaking with some of the candidates online.
01:36We've been able to meet now officially here in Telangana and I've made some very close friendships.
01:41I'm very close with Miss World Brazil, Miss World Namibia, Miss World Sri Lanka, Miss World Netherlands.
01:47The list goes on and on. They're all incredibly kind and sweet.
01:51And to be honest, I really cannot wait to look back at this on ten, five years
01:57and remember all of the wonderful friendships I was able and privileged to make during my time here.
02:02Here we can meet one out nine countries people.
02:05So every Miss World contestant carrying their own story, there is a back story behind them.
02:10So what is the story of Miss South Africa? Can you please share something about you?
02:15Of course. Well, I will tell about my upbringing as a child and how that led to my Beauty with a Purpose initiative.
02:22I was brought up by a single parent and for the majority of my life it was quite tough to understand
02:29and only as I grew older I really understood the sacrifices that my mother had to make.
02:34She is such a resilient woman and being raised by a single mother really showed me that there are so many people
02:41within this world that grow up with no parents at all.
02:43So that led me to step into my first orphanage five years ago.
02:47And when I walked in there was such a sense of loneliness and abandonment.
02:52So having that feeling of eeriness come upon me really made me understand that action is needed.
02:58Action needs to be taken and it wasn't a cause I could remain oblivious to.
03:02This was a reality all around the globe.
03:04So I decided to start up an initiative called Never Too Young to Advocate
03:08which focuses on youth development and youth empowerment within orphaned and vulnerable communities in South Africa.
03:14We work with children and we actually go into the facilities and we repair the place that they rest in.
03:21We repair the classrooms and we actually build up classrooms for them to be able to study and have a quality education.
03:27Because we want to instill that sense of safety and security in their lives through the power of education.
03:33So being able to do that has been such an honour of a lifetime and the children have inspired me so much.
03:39They have inspired me to write my own children's book called Only A World Away.
03:43And it is so wonderful to have seen how a sense of self and how knowledge has reminded them that dreams are never out of reach.
03:52Just because of where you come from or your differences it doesn't make you any less than anyone else.
03:57And it's important to hold on to your dreams and stay passionate and determined for as long as you can.
04:02Because when you are courageous and you reach for the stars anything is possible.
04:06As you mentioned about your mother I came to understand that your mother is a strong woman.
04:11Very.
04:12So but is there any particular situations that you remember when you were growing up that your mother was worried about and very difficult situations.
04:21Is there any situation like that?
04:23I think there were many and from that like I mentioned my family is very resilient and strong.
04:28So we bounced back from them learning a lot of lessons.
04:31I think one thing was always school.
04:33I was a child that really focused on education and I always wanted to do well and find validation in results.
04:40But I've only come to understand that the schooling experience taught me a lot about the world from an early age.
04:45My mother sacrificed so much to put us through school.
04:48To have an education is truly an honour and a privilege.
04:53But it's honestly something that should be a ride for every child because my mother fought to give me an education.
04:58And now I'm honoured to take on that responsibility and fight for other children's education.
05:03For them to be able to grow up with knowledge and have a better understanding about the world and how they can contribute to the betterment of it.
05:11As you mentioned about education I just want to ask you something.
05:15Is the marks really important or the character or the persona is more important?
05:20I truly believe it's a combination of both. Both results and the character that is built from it is important.
05:26The reason I say the results are important is because at the end of the day if you want to go out and you know pursue a career in medicine or something like that results are obviously required.
05:39I always say never limit yourself to something that is set out but unfortunately that is the rules we need to abide by.
05:45So I always say work hard, study hard and the character development you will have in school is something that will shape you a great lot.
05:53It taught me a lot about the way I think and it taught me a lot about perspective.
05:57So having both of those combinations and focusing on them equally taught me a lot about myself and now I can use that knowledge in everyday life and I'm grateful for every experience.
06:07Thank you so much.
06:09Thank you so much.
06:10Thank you so much.
