00:00Alexa, we didn't get a chance to talk about our selections for the race, though.
00:04Neither one of us has the 8 Clever again in the mix.
00:07I was just worried about how it shapes up for him,
00:09because I think there's some other speeds, and this is a tough test.
00:12Was there anything you wanted to mention about the 8 or the 9 Goster?
00:17Yeah, I mean, the 8's interesting.
00:20This will be the longest distances run, first time on a wet track,
00:23potentially first time facing Greater Stakes Company
00:26against a bunch of really seasoned runners, right,
00:29who just ran in the Derby.
00:30So, I mean, but that being said, from a breeding standpoint,
00:32distance should be okay, he's fresh,
00:35unlike some of these others who are coming in off of such short rests.
00:39So, I mean, maybe if he clears and wins the battle for the lead,
00:42but I, again, have left him out of my selections.
00:45I threw the 9 in as like an underneath horse,
00:47because I think he might be able to get a good trip.
00:49I don't know if he's good enough to win the race.
00:51I could absolutely see him maybe running 3rd or 4th at a big price.
00:55So, I threw him in some of my wagers, Alexa,
00:57but let's see how you're going to wager on the Preakness coming up.
01:00We gave you and me a $100 bankroll,
01:03just so folks are wondering,
01:04if you had $100 to bet on the Preakness,
01:07how would you bet it?
01:08You think journalism is going to be really tough,
01:10so half your bankroll is going to be on journalism.
01:12If he's over like 3 to 5, that's probably good value.
01:15Honestly, he probably should be like 3 to 5 against this field, right?
01:19Yeah, I mean, I have friends texting me today saying,
01:21there's no way you can bet him.
01:22Like, he's just going to be too low of odds.
01:24And I'm like, I don't know.
01:25Like, I think, I'm not convinced that he's going to be less than even money.
01:31I think he could be, you know, even 7 to 5.
01:34But I like him.
01:35I think he's the one to beat.
01:36I think people are going to have a really hard time beating him.
01:38So, I'm going to put 50 bucks to win on him.
01:40I'm keying him on top of everything.
01:42Like, if he doesn't win, all my bets lose.
01:45But my next bet is a $30 straight exact of 2 over 6.
01:49So, that means 2 has to get first, 6 has to get second.
01:52I think that's the only way that that bet wins.
01:54And then a trifecta for $5.
01:57Its total cost is $20.
01:59But the base bet.
02:00Five times.
02:01Yeah.
02:02It's a $5 base bet.
02:03And it's journalism over goal-oriented.
02:07The one who's the Baffert horse.
02:10And the six, River Thames.
02:13And then the one, six, and seven, adding Samian in third place.
02:17Yep.
02:17So, if you add it all up, the $50 plus the $30 plus the $20 it would cost you for that trifecta.
02:22That's Alexa's $100 bankroll.
02:25So, for Alexa and I, we have a lot of similar horses in the mix.
02:29Like, in particular, our top two.
02:31We both like River Thames and think he's going to run a really good race.
02:34I'll just take a little shot with him on top.
02:37What I did was I put most of my bankroll in my exacta and in my trifecta.
02:41And then what I had left over, I put to win on River Thames.
02:44Because, hey, if he's, like, five to one.
02:46And there's nothing wrong with getting back, like, half of my bankroll right away if he were to win.
02:51Then, in the exacta, Alexa, I have similarities with you.
02:55If journalism wins and River Thames runs second, we'll both hit that exacta really nicely.
03:01I also want to make sure that if, for some reason, Goster runs second.
03:05If one of the two horses that I really like win, I'll also hit that exacta.
03:09So, if it comes in 2-9 or maybe 6-9, that would be River Thames and Goster or journalism and Goster.
03:17I'd win that exacta.
03:18So, I give myself a little bit of flexibility there with the exacta.
03:22Then, on the trifecta spot, I need either the two, journalism, to win or the six, River Thames.
03:29Then, if one of those wins, I move on to the second spot.
03:32And I think, Alexa, I just don't really know if some of the horses like American Promise and Goster.
03:38I don't know if they could win, but I absolutely think they could hit the board because they have speed.
03:43They're horses that can be involved, especially if it's raining.
03:46We know American Promise has shown ability on a wet track, too.
03:50So, I want to make sure I've got the three American Promise and the nine.
03:53Those are kind of the long shots that I'm going to include in my trifecta.
03:57So, if we can get one of them into the second and the third spots, I'll be in pretty good shape there.
04:03So, a couple different wagers.
04:05For me, I'll go win, exacta, and try.
04:08Alexa will throw in a win wager and an exacta.
04:11I think—
04:12I have less value in my plays, right?
04:14Because I have lower horses, but I'm playing them for a lot more times.
04:17More times, right?
04:18Yeah, so if I hit it, I'll still crush.
04:21Yeah, so Alexa—exactly, right?
04:23Alexa's payouts might be a little bit less, but she'll have them more times.
04:26I might be able to get a bigger payout if we hit that trifecta correctly or even the exacta, but I'd have it less than Alexa's $30 exacta versus my $10 exacta.
04:37So, that's really what it comes down to in wage—in gambling on the races, right?
