00:00Let's meet the field for this year's Preakness, and we will start with the number one goal-oriented DZ.
00:06We've got trainer Bob Baffert, who has won this race eight times.
00:10Flavian Pratt actually won this thing a couple years back on Rombauer as well.
00:15Looked like Baffert was going to have multiple horses in this race, but after some defections, Rodriguez didn't make it in.
00:21The only one that we have left is goal-oriented, and he has speed.
00:25He draws the inside, probably pretty simple game plan for the Bob Baffert runner, right?
00:30You think they'll just get aggressive with him?
00:32Yeah, I mean, if you go back and you watch his race on Derby Day at Churchill Downs, he actually, even though he shows a lead at every point of call on the chart,
00:40he actually didn't go to the front right out of the gate.
00:43He had a couple of long shots in front of him, and he was pretty full of himself in pulling at Flavian Pratt just a little bit,
00:48and it looked like Pratt kind of gave him his head, sliced his way through him between horses,
00:52and he made the lead before they got to the opening quarter, was allowed to establish some pretty reasonable fractions,
00:58and was just the best horse that day.
00:59He is a gorgeous son of Not This Time, by the way.
01:02He certainly is going to win the beauty contest in addition to being a $425,000 yearling.
01:08Baffert is actually really good with these quick turnarounds.
01:10If you take a look at over the last five years, horses that he runs back between 12 and 16 days win at about a 33% clip,
01:17so no surprise that he's done exceedingly well in the Preakness, because he seems to do well when he turns these horses right back around.
01:23But he did draw on the inside, which might limit some of his tactical abilities, as you said.
01:28If you don't go to the front, you run the risk of kind of getting stuck down inside behind the speed,
01:33so you would imagine that they're going to be pretty aggressive here with a lightly raced colt with a lot of upside.
01:39Alexa, it's pretty remarkable.
01:40This horse debuted on April the 6th, so in a month and a half, he goes from debut winner to winning his second start,
01:48and then two weeks later, he's in the Preakness here, and he's only 6-1 on the morning line.
01:54Yeah, I mean, when you think about it, if you're wondering why he didn't make the Derby,
01:57he just was a late bloomer, you might say.
02:00And kind of what Darren and Gina both mentioned, right, this is quick turnaround from the Derby,
02:05and so some horses in here who are not coming out of the Derby or coming out of Derby Day, like goal-oriented,
02:10might have a little bit of an upper leg with having a little bit more rest time,
02:14a little bit more time to get comfortable and be in their prime.
02:18But like Darren said, Bob Baffert's pretty good with those horses on the short rest.
02:23He did win, like I said, on Derby Day, which was sloppy, wet, nasty track.
02:29And the forecast right now, I need to look at it again.
02:32I know Friday is going to rain, Saturday I think there might be some rain,
02:36so we might have another wet track, so it is good to know that he likes the surface.
