00:00
Maybe you're hoping the fine sunny weather continues or for a little bit of rain.
00:05
There's a bit of both as we go through this weekend.
00:07
That's because the high pressure that's dominated our weather so far this week,
00:11
it's drifting a little bit away towards the east.
00:13
So there is a front towards the northwest that's going to try to edge in.
00:17
That won't make much progress.
00:18
There's another system, though, towards the south of us.
00:21
This is likely to feed its way northwards as we go through the weekend,
00:24
and it could well bring some heavy, possibly even thundery showers,
00:27
particularly to parts of the southwest as we go through Sunday.
00:30
But there's a chance they could become a bit more widespread as we go through Sunday and into next week as well.
00:36
Back to there and now, though, and if we look at the details for much of the country
00:40
through the rest of Friday and overnight into Saturday, it's a dry, clear night.
00:45
But like I said, there is a front towards the northwest, so that's going to bring a bit more cloud,
00:50
maybe a few spots of rain to the northwest of Scotland.
00:52
Otherwise, and with those clear skies, generally light winds,
00:55
many places are going to have a bit of a chilly night.
00:58
It's going to turn quite fresh, similar to some recent nights, really.
01:02
Temperatures in some countryside locations could just about dip below freezing.
01:06
A touch of frost is possible.
01:07
Most towns and cities, though, are holding up several degrees above.
01:11
Nonetheless, a bit of a fresh start on Saturday morning,
01:13
and there could be some pockets of mist and fog around.
01:15
But once the sun comes up, those will quite quickly clear,
01:18
and our temperatures will quite quickly lift as well as we go through the day.
01:22
So a fine, sunny picture for many.
01:25
Not always wall-to-wall blue skies, but for quite a few of us, it will be.
01:29
Always the exception being towards the far north-northwest of Scotland,
01:33
where that front's a bit closer.
01:34
There could be a bit more cloud and a few spots of rain at times as well.
01:37
With the decent sunshine, temperatures, if anything,
01:40
are likely to be a few degrees up compared to Friday,
01:43
more widely getting into the high teens, low 20s,
01:45
perhaps even mid-20s in a few places.
01:48
But do be aware, we do have some pretty high pollen levels for many places,
01:53
the dry, fine weather leading to some high levels across many areas.
01:57
And we are transitioning from tree pollen to grass pollen,
02:00
and it's grass pollen which the majority of hay fever sufferers are susceptible to.
02:05
So you may start to feel some greater symptoms as we go through the next week or so.
02:10
But as we go through Saturday evening,
02:12
our attention is really drawn to some heavy, thundery showers that are coming in from the south.
02:18
Now, these are causing us some headaches in terms of how widespread they're going to be.
02:23
So do take into account that across parts of southwest England,
02:25
south Wales, even other parts of southern England,
02:28
they could be spreading their way in as we go overnight Saturday and into Sunday.
02:32
Otherwise, and many other places having another largely dry, clear night,
02:36
and it could be a bit fresh in some places away from the towns and cities.
02:40
Then through Sunday itself, still some question marks as to what's going to happen with these
02:45
heavy, possibly thundery showers in the southwest.
02:48
Like I said, they could be a bit more widespread than the graphics behind me suggest.
02:52
And we do need to take into account the fact that they could be pretty heavy.
02:55
We could see some high rainfall totals building up,
02:58
and a lot of that rain could come in quite a short period of time.
03:01
So it's not just the lightning risk,
03:03
the potential for some hail that we need to watch out for.
03:06
There could also be a bit of flash flooding as well, even though it has been so dry recently.
03:12
Further north, there's a chance that that front may edge back in a little bit.
03:15
Even though it breaks up, we could see some outbreaks of rain.
03:18
And also those showers could spill into parts of Northern Ireland too.
03:22
Further east though, lots of dry weather still on Sunday.
03:25
And with that, temperatures even higher again.
03:27
So more widely getting into the mid-20 Celsius.
03:30
Pretty warm, temperatures a fair few degrees above average for the time of year.
03:34
Later on, as we go into the beginning of next week,
03:37
and we are going to continue to see this low pressure to the southwest of us,
03:41
likely to bring some showers to some parts.
03:44
Exactly how far they spread, still some question marks.
03:48
But at the moment, we do need to cater for the risk of some heavy,
03:50
possibly thundery showers as we go through Monday and perhaps into Tuesday.
03:54
But then high pressure builds from the north,
03:56
and that's going to lead to a drier, more fine picture as we go through the end of the week,
04:01
similar to what we've become used to.
04:02
I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
04:04
Bye-bye.
