03 June - national forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Well, very good morning to you, but it is a bit of a wet one. Slightly different theme to things compared to recent days.
00:07There's a band of rain lying across us at the moment, going from parts of northern England through Wales and towards the southwest of England.
00:14Some relatively high rainfall totals. That band of rain has already pushed through across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:19Plenty of showers following in behind. Meanwhile, in the southeast, it's largely fine for the time being,
00:25but that front is going to continue its progress southeastward, so southeastern parts turning pretty grey and a bit damp as we go through the morning and into the early afternoon.
00:34Behind the front, yes, there will be some sunny skies developing, but also the showers will become a bit more widespread and some could be a little bit on the heavy side.
00:43And we have some blustery winds. There are some strong winds along the front itself and then blustery winds following in behind, particularly across parts of Scotland.
00:51Now, across the Midlands, actually, a good chance of staying largely dry once the front pushes through.
00:57Not many showers developing here, and it's here where I'm expecting the highest temperatures today, just about scraping into the low 20 Celsius.
01:06Elsewhere, a fair bit fresher than it has been of late because of some cooler air that's come in behind the front.
01:11Across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, low to possibly mid-teens.
01:16And when you factor in those blustery winds, feeling a bit fresher still.
01:20And across parts of the southeast, if that front lingers for a little bit longer and you're stuck under the cloud, well, temperatures are going to be relatively suppressed here as well.
01:29Then later on, the showers will continue for a little while yet.
01:33And actually, across parts of Scotland, the showers could pep up a bit more and merge into some longer spells of rain, which could be a bit heavy as we go overnight elsewhere.
01:41And apart from a few showers here and there, across maybe Northern Ireland, Northwest England, and towards the southwest, for many, it's going to be generally quite dry.
01:49And there will be a good deal of clear skies.
01:52And with that fresher air that's come in, I am expecting it to be a fair bit cooler through this coming night than it was last night.
01:59More places dipping into single digits.
02:01So a bit of a fresher start, but for many, a relatively bright start.
02:05There will be, again, plenty of showers on offer as we go through tomorrow, though, particularly across Scotland and also Northern Ireland, Northern England, where they'll be fairly widespread early on.
02:15Further south, the showers will take a little bit longer to develop, but again, they are going to become a bit more widespread.
02:21And if you do catch a shower, they could be quite heavy.
02:25A bit of thunder definitely isn't out of the question.
02:27Eastern areas, a greater chance of avoiding the showers, but can't rule them out entirely.
02:34And in between the showers, worth bearing in mind, there will be some sunny spells.
02:38And although temperatures are going to be lower than they have been recently, at this time of year, the sun's got some decent strength.
02:45So if you do catch any of that sunshine, then it should feel pretty warm, especially if you're sheltered from the winds, which, albeit won't be as strong as today, there will still be a brisk wind, especially across northern parts.
02:56Then as we go through into Thursday, it's another, well, messy day, really.
03:01There's a spell of showery rain pushing across England and Wales, even some showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland, too.
03:07So nowhere really guaranteed to stay dry.
03:10There will be some drier, brighter spells around.
03:12It's not total washout of a day, but yeah, the changeable and fresher feel to things kind of continues, really, through Thursday and through the end of the week.
03:22If you want to know more about what we can expect, looking even further ahead, well, why don't you check out the deep dive with Anna, which will be available later on today.
03:30And I think she's going to be taking an extra special look at satellites, one to make sure you don't miss.
03:36But you can imagine, now, why do you know what happens when it's me, I'm not going to forget to meet with them.
03:44That's right.
03:45I'm going to never watch this, and um, the church's room for two hours, and you could go where you're standing in the field.
03:50That's right.
03:51But then, uh, the churches and churches together, that show that they're going up for two hours.
