01 July - National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00OK, I get it. It's not a heat wave everywhere, but across some parts of the southeast in particular,
00:06temperatures have been very high recently, and it's going to be, again, very hot today.
00:11Lots of sunshine towards the southeast, and with that sunshine, those temperatures are going to rise rapidly.
00:17Further north and west, there's some cloud around across parts of southern and eastern Scotland,
00:22northern England, even into parts of Wales and the southwest.
00:24There are some scattered showers coming up from the southwest,
00:27and where you get the cloud and any outbreaks of rain, well, it's going to be markedly fresher.
00:33And worth bearing in mind, some of the sherry bursts could be heavy, could even be thundery.
00:37Also worth factoring that actually across parts of northern and western Scotland and northern Ireland,
00:42markedly drier, brighter and sunnier than it was yesterday.
00:46But it's the temperatures that are the big talking point.
00:48Like I said, it's feeling fairly fresh at times where we have the cloud towards the north and west.
00:53But in the southeast, temperatures for some could be a little bit higher than yesterday.
00:59Now, the area of the highest temperatures is a bit smaller.
01:03The heat is being pushed away towards the east.
01:07But nonetheless, yes, temperatures could be peaking around 34, 35, possibly even 36 Celsius for some places today.
01:14Otherwise, as we go through the evening and the end of the day, some sherry bursts pushing into parts of the southeast for a time.
01:21And towards eastern parts of England and Scotland, quite cloudy, further sherry outbreaks of rain possible here.
01:27And some of these could be quite heavy.
01:29Further west, though, clearer skies, and it is going to be largely dry here.
01:33Still quite a warm, humid night across some parts of the east-southeast.
01:37But we do have fresher air coming in from the west, so it's going to be starting to turn a bit more comfortable for places towards the east.
01:44And further west, it's going to be pretty cool, if anything.
01:48Some places, seeing temperatures dropping into mid-single figures.
01:51So a fairly fresh start to the day tomorrow morning for some towards the west in particular.
01:57And then through the day itself, lots of fine weather for many places, but not everywhere.
02:01Across eastern areas, still some sherry bursts, some heavy ones towards eastern parts of England, even the southeast.
02:07Some further sherry bursts making their way in.
02:09Across Scotland and Northern Ireland, a scattering of showers piling their way in.
02:13And some of these could be heavy.
02:15But across much of England and Wales, like I said, lots of fine weather on offer and a decent amount of sunshine.
02:21In that sunshine, it is going to feel warm or very warm for some of us.
02:25Not as hot as it was to start the week.
02:27We're nowhere near those low to mid-30s.
02:29We're looking at highs of around 25 Celsius, really, at highest.
02:33But that's still plenty warm, with lots of sunshine on offer.
02:37And just, yeah, a fresher feel towards the north and west.
02:39But still, high teens, low 20s for some.
02:42So if you do catch any bright sunny swells in between any showery bursts, it's not going to feel too bad at all.
02:48As we go towards the end of the week and towards the weekend, and there is some more changeable weather to come.
02:53I think most of us will notice the fresher feel to things, with some cooler air making its way in.
02:59But we do also need to factor in for the risk of some hefty showers, which could have some thunder mixed in with them.
03:05And then, towards the end of the week in particular, by Friday, a bit of a northwest-southeast split.
03:10Some wetter weather pushing into northwestern parts.
03:12Southeastern areas clinging on to the drier weather for a little bit longer.
03:16But by the weekend, I am expecting that rain to become a bit more widespread.
03:20So most of us will see a bit of wet weather for a time.
03:23For more information about what we can expect as we go through the end of this heat wave and through the rest of this week,
03:29why not check out the deep dive, which Honor will be bringing to you later on this afternoon.
03:34See you again soon. Bye-bye.
