06 June- National weather forecast presented by Alex Burkill
Transcript
00:00Hello, very good day to you. Plenty of showers on offer for many of us through today. They are
00:05going to ease a little bit and then we have some heavy thundery showers arriving tomorrow. But
00:10before then, just a quick look at what happened earlier on today and you can see there was an
00:15occluded front that's been pushing its way eastwards. That brought the focus for some heavy
00:19showery rain that many parts of England and Wales saw so far today. That's now clearing away but
00:24behind it a fair few showers following and these showers are going to continue then as we go
00:29through this afternoon. The heavier showers still across parts of eastern, southeastern England,
00:33maybe eastern Scotland as well. Some rumbles of thunder possible with these. Elsewhere,
00:37a scattering of showers continuing but a few of them will be starting to ease and clear away so
00:42a greater chance of seeing some dry and perhaps even sunny spells and in that sunshine we're not
00:47doing too bad temperature wise. We're looking at most places peaking in the mid to high teens Celsius
00:52towards the south could get to low 20s, highs of around 20, 21. There is a bit of a breeze around
00:58but if you're in the shelter from that and like I say in the sunshine, not feeling too bad. Then as we
01:03go through the evening, more of those showers starting to ease but not all of them. Some will
01:07continue in a few places and then towards the end of the day, cloud building and some heavy
01:12thundery showers pushing in from the southwest and this will all spread its weight northeastwards
01:17across much of England and Wales as we go overnight. Also across northern Ireland, we're seeing some
01:22cloud and showery rain overnight but across large chunks of Scotland, especially towards the northeast,
01:28some drier, clearer weather here and it's here we're going to see the lowest temperatures, not
01:31especially low, mid single figures really. Elsewhere, temperatures generally holding up in double
01:36digits as you would expect because of the cloud, because of the rain and some brisk winds. So then
01:42tomorrow, well it is going to be quite an active one really, especially across southern parts of England.
01:47This is where we have the greatest risk of some heavy torrential downpours, the risk of frequent
01:53lightning with some thunderstorms that are likely to develop. Even further north, there are going to
01:58be a few thundery downpours to watch out for but by their very nature, those showers, they are hit and
02:03miss so it's no guarantee that you're going to catch a heavy downpour. You may not even catch any rain if
02:09you're lucky if it's dry weather that you're after and there will be some dry brighter spells in between
02:15any showers as they push through. We do have a warning though for thunderstorms on Saturday.
02:20This is across parts of southern England and Wales. Here we have the greatest risk of some disruption
02:25because of those pretty heavy downpours. We're talking the potential for 10 to 15 millimetres in
02:31just an hour or so and through the day if you get several downpours one after the other then some
02:36places could see totals of around 30 or 40 millimetres. That's enough to cause a little bit of
02:41localised surface flooding and as well as the heavy rain it's the frequent lightning and the
02:46hail that could cause some problems too. Temperatures on paper, well they are going to be down a couple
02:51of degrees for most places through tomorrow. A bit more of a breeze around as well and especially
02:55some gusty winds in association with those strong downpours of thundery rain and so that will add to
03:02the slightly fresher feel to most places. Now Sunday is looking like the drier day of the weekend for
03:07most places but it's definitely not totally dry. There will still be some showery rain around
03:12initially across parts of eastern England that clears away and then a scattering of showers
03:16following in behind and whilst some of them could be a little bit on the sharp side they're not going
03:20to be as intense as the ones that we're expecting through tomorrow and there's a lesser chance of
03:26seeing some thunder and so disruptions less likely as well. But nonetheless still a few showers to
03:32watch out for and temperatures well similar really to Saturday mid to possibly high teens for most
03:37of us. There's more changeable weather to come as we go through next week but also the potential for
03:42temperatures to rise and so definitely something to keep on top of. I'll see you again soon. Bye-bye.
