Thanks for joining me for your latest update from the Met Office. If you're
00:03
watching on YouTube do hit the subscribe button. Now it is going to turn a bit
00:07
milder over the next few days but it's going to take some time and Friday night,
00:11
Saturday morning may well be the nadir of this current cold spell. A hard frost
00:16
forming in most locations but we're starting to see a change. Clouding over
00:21
for Northern Ireland, outbreaks of rain and drizzle with some hill snow
00:24
trickling in here. Staying fairly cloudy over Pembrokeshire, Devon, Cornwall and
00:28
the Isles of Scilly. Elsewhere though generally clear skies. Fog is going to
00:32
thicken up and that could be quite dense for Saturday. It may linger over parts of
00:37
the Welsh Marches, North West England, the Midlands and Eastern England too. For
00:42
many though we'll keep the clear skies, light winds and that will mean those
00:45
tumbling temperatures down to minus three, minus four. That's even in towns
00:49
and cities, maybe lower in the urban parts across Scotland. Rural spots across
00:54
Scotland, Northern England where there's snow lying on the ground could get to
00:57
minus teens, maybe minus 15, minus 16 in one or two locations. But further west we
01:03
may well start at the weekend above freezing. That milder air because of the
01:09
thicker clouds will also make for a damp start for Northern Ireland. Rain and
01:13
drizzle slowly clearing here and edging into Western Scotland. Again mostly rain
01:17
and drizzle, some snow possible over the hills. A little bit of that wet weather
01:20
trickling across the Isle of Man, up towards Cumbria and North Wales through
01:25
the afternoon. Generally dry in the far southwest but staying quite cloudy here,
01:29
brightening up in Northern Ireland. Sunnier skies over Eastern England,
01:33
North East Scotland. But don't forget parts of the Midlands, Eastern England
01:36
there will be that patchy fog that could linger all day and if it does temperatures
01:41
will well probably stay below freezing. In the sunnier skies we could get up to
01:46
two or three just like it has been on recent days, so well below average for
01:49
the time of year. Notice further west though temperatures are ticking up,
01:53
something that will continue as we go through Saturday night and Sunday. As
01:56
this cloud continues to edge in, the rain, drizzle, hill snow tending to fizzle out.
02:01
Again some fog is likely to reform or just thicken up again on Saturday night
02:06
and Sunday morning across parts of the east. But many places will be dry. There
02:10
is a weather front approaching however bringing more of a change as we go
02:14
through the second half of the weekend. Still pretty chilly, still again a
02:18
widespread frost over central and eastern England but more areas further
02:21
west likely to stay above freezing into Sunday morning. Sunday is a bit of a
02:27
mishmash, again most places dry. There will be some fog around which may take a
02:30
while to clear. There'll be that weather front I talked about earlier bringing
02:33
rain across the northwest of Scotland, some of that trickling into the north of
02:37
Northern Ireland and eventually getting into the Northern Isles also. Still
02:41
mostly light and patchy at this stage but notice the winds are starting to
02:45
strengthen. For a good chunk of England and Wales it'll be dry, quite a bit of
02:48
cloud around but we should see some spells of sunshine over the Midlands.
02:51
Brighter day for South Wales and southwest England compared to Friday
02:55
and Saturday and it is slowly turning warmer. You can tell that just by the
03:00
way the winds are coming up from the south so eventually bringing milder air.
03:03
But it'll still I suspect feel pretty cold over these eastern areas, five, six
03:08
degrees at best. Further west we're looking at eight, nine, maybe by the end
03:12
of the day double digits in one or two locations. So yes the milder air is on
03:16
the way but it's going to take its time before it reaches central and eastern
03:20
England. Should turn milder here as we head into next week. More details on all
03:25
of that of course across our social media channels as I said at the start.
