Hello, whilst large parts of the country have just had a dry cold Wednesday, the
00:05
top and tail have been seeing plenty more wintry showers. Quite a bit of wet
00:09
weather across the south, a mixture of rain, sleet and snow has been edging in
00:13
here and the snow has been causing a bit of disruption particularly over parts of
00:17
southwest England. We have an amber weather warning in place. Snow showers
00:22
continue to pack in across northern Scotland and the north of Northern
00:24
Ireland. Icy conditions here. The wet weather in the south will clear through
00:28
but still through this evening the potential for further disruption with
00:31
sleet and snow across those southern counties before tending to edge away by
00:35
the time we get to the early hours. With a bit more cloud left behind however
00:39
that will keep the temperatures up a little bit across the southeast. Elsewhere
00:43
a hard frost and it could well turn icy particularly as these showers come into
00:48
West Wales, parts of Cornwall and those wintry showers continue over the north
00:52
of Northern Ireland and northern Scotland. Down to minus four, minus five
00:56
that's in towns and cities. Rural parts could get down to minus double digits
01:00
and as well as all that some thick freezing fog patches for parts of
01:03
Northern Ireland and northern England may well get denser through the night. So
01:07
plenty of things to be a little bit wary of for Thursday morning's commute. You'll
01:13
have to defrost the car first thing. There'll still be those showers coming
01:16
into West Wales and Cornwall. Some snow mixed in and potentially icy. Same goes
01:21
for the north of Northern Ireland and more snow showers coming in across
01:24
northern Scotland. Still a bit of fog around as well. That should clear. The
01:28
showers will tend to fade certainly in parts of southwest England and
01:31
Northern Ireland and actually for many places it's going to be a fine and sunny
01:36
if somewhat cold day. Still a nagging wind blowing across the far northeast
01:41
making it feel even colder here. Temperatures generally after starting
01:46
four or five degrees below freezing getting up to two or three Celsius above
01:49
freezing maybe five or six across southernmost parts of England. But as I
01:53
said feeling colder in that wind along some of those easternmost coasts. And
01:58
pretty quickly again on that Thursday evening those temperatures will fall
02:02
away and we'll see another hard frost forming. Again some fog patches are
02:06
possible. Most places dry but still some wintry showers coming in across
02:10
Aberdeenshire and down to the southwest. Now the weather system edging in here
02:15
that will bring some wet weather. It will also throw a bit more cloud up. So
02:18
southwestern areas may just about stay above freezing. Parts of Devon, Cornwall
02:22
Isles of Scilly and the Channel Isles. But elsewhere again down to minus 3 to
02:27
minus 5 in urban areas. Could get down to minus 15 minus 16 where there's snow
02:32
lying on the ground over northern England and parts of Scotland. Coldest
02:36
night for quite some time. So a hard frost for Friday morning. Again a little
02:41
bit of fog but again many places fine and dry with some winter sunshine. Main
02:45
exception will be the southwest. More clouds spilling in through Wales,
02:48
southern counties of England and some wet weather. And again it's going to be a
02:52
mixture here. Mostly rain close to the coast but over hills there will be some
02:56
snow. And even at lower levels we could see some further snow flurries coming in.
03:00
So that is an area we need to watch for Friday. And even if it is rain that we
03:05
see falling onto frozen surfaces potentially turning things really quite
03:08
icy during Friday as temperatures struggle. But eventually milder areas
03:13
edging into the far southwest. January though again another cold one. Two or
03:17
three Celsius at best. And feeling colder as the cloud spills in across
03:23
Wales and the Midlands. That will continue to edge in during Friday
03:26
evening as this weather front bumps its way slowly but surely in. But high
03:30
pressure is building in. So really taking the sting out of that weather front as it
03:36
edges in. But it will eventually also start to usher in some milder conditions.
03:41
Going to take its time before it turns milder in the east. But gradually
03:44
temperatures will be ticking up a little bit as we go through this weekend.
03:48
Plenty more on all of that. All we can expect into next week if you watch this
03:52
week's 10-day trend. That is available on YouTube so why not subscribe.
