Bijnor: A 23-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances just six months after her marriage, with her family accusing her in-laws of poisoning her over dowry demands. Police have registered a case against four members of her in-laws’ family, including her husband and mother-in-law.
The deceased, Kajal, daughter of Hemendra Singh from Harchandpur village under Nangal Soti police station limits, was married to Sachin, son of Bhishma, a resident of Muzaffarpur Devidas in Nahtaur.
According to sources, Kajal allegedly consumed a poisonous substance on Thursday evening following domestic disputes. She was rushed to a private hospital as her condition worsened but was declared dead by the doctors. Upon receiving the information, police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination.
On Friday morning, Kajal’s brother Akshendra lodged a formal complaint against her husband Sachin, father-in-law Bhishma, mother-in-law Rekha Devi, and brother-in-law Robin. The complaint alleges that Kajal was frequently harassed and beaten by her in-laws for additional dowry and was eventually poisoned.
SHO Dheeraj Nagar confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC based on the complaint, and an investigation is underway.
