Agra (Uttar Pradesh) — A shocking case of domestic abuse has emerged from Agra, where Dr. Pradeep Baghel, previously jailed for murdering his first wife, has been accused of holding his second wife hostage and brutally assaulting her.
The woman, married to Dr. Baghel in 2015 and mother of a nine-year-old son, alleged that she was kept locked in a room, starved, and beaten mercilessly over trivial issues. Her brother rescued her after learning of her plight.
The victim informed police that she comes from a poor family and her husband is having an affair with another woman. She claimed that her in-laws — including her father-in-law Shiromani Singh, a former councillor — and brother-in-law supported her husband’s cruelty.
According to her statement, she endured years of violence and humiliation, with no food and constant beatings. Social media posts circulating the video of her ordeal have drawn widespread outrage.
The matter is under police investigation.
Police statement: "On the basis of the complaint received, a case has been registered by M.M. Gate Police Station and necessary legal action is being taken."
