Hello, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. So, there's colder weather
00:05
on the way for most of us as we head through much of this week. It has still been quite
00:09
a chilly few days across parts of Scotland. However, is this area of low pressure to the
00:13
north-west of the UK sinking its way south and eastwards as we go through Monday and
00:17
Tuesday that we do need to keep an eye on? On that boundary of the warm and the cold
00:20
air with those weather fronts, we could perhaps see some disruptive snow as we head through
00:24
Monday and Tuesday with some Met Office weather warnings in force. What we do know, though,
00:28
is that pushes away towards the east as we go through the rest of Tuesday, leaving a
00:31
cold northerly flow through much of the UK and towards the middle part of the week. Back
00:36
to the rest of Sunday, though, a bit of a mixed picture across the UK. Some scattered
00:40
showers further south, although these gradually clearing away towards the south-east during
00:44
the early hours of Monday morning. For the northern half of the UK, generally a bit of
00:47
a drier picture, plenty of clear spells around, although scattered showers still pushing in
00:52
across the north-west, these turning to sleet and snow in places. Under those clear skies
00:56
is likely to be quite a chilly start to the day on Monday across much of Scotland and
01:01
Northern Ireland, perhaps minus three or minus four in places, and this could lead to some
01:05
icy stretches, particularly on any untreated roads. So do take care during Monday morning's
01:10
rush hour. Further south, where we do see a bit more cloud and rain, it'll be a little
01:15
bit milder, although temperatures here still dropping down into the single figures. So
01:18
for England and Wales, a bit of a milder start, but quite a cloudy and damp start. Some heavy
01:23
and blustery showers across the south-west, pushing their way south and eastwards as we
01:28
go through the morning. We then see this next area of rain associated with that area of
01:31
low pressure moving in across parts of Northern Ireland. It will be falling as rain for most
01:36
as low to lower levels, but we could see some sleet and snow falling over the hills as well.
01:41
For Scotland, we do see those blustery showers continuing across the far north. Again, these
01:45
turning to sleet and snow over the hills. But for southern and eastern parts of Scotland
01:49
and into northern parts of England, generally a drier end to the day with some hazy sunshine.
01:55
In the far south, underneath that cloud and to the south of that weather front, we are
01:58
just holding on to that milder air for the last day. Temperatures here around average
02:02
around 10 or 11 degrees. But further north, with those northerly winds, it will be feeling
02:06
really quite chilly, with temperatures only around 2 or 3 degrees in some places. As we
02:12
then go through Monday evening, that weather front across Northern Ireland pushes its way
02:15
eastwards into parts of Northern England. And this is where we could see that disruptive
02:19
snow as we start on Tuesday. Mostly, it will be falling as rain to lower levels, but we
02:24
could perhaps see 20 centimetres of snow across the Pennines by the time we get to Tuesday
02:29
morning and this perhaps falling to lower levels in places, though not quite those accumulations
02:34
likely at lower levels. Further south, there will also be some blustery showers pushing
02:38
in from the southwest, spreading their way eastwards. But for much of Scotland and Northern
02:42
Ireland, it will be a bit of a drier start to the day on Tuesday, albeit quite a chilly
02:46
start to again, quite a sharp frost forming here, perhaps leading to some icy stretches
02:51
during Tuesday morning's rush hour and temperatures again dropping down below zero further north.
02:56
Further south, it will be just that little bit milder again, around seven or eight degrees
03:00
in places. So during Tuesday morning's rush hour, we do have that risk of some sleet and
03:05
snow perhaps to lower levels for a time, and that could lead to some icy stretches as well.
03:09
But it does quite quickly push its way eastwards as we go through Tuesday morning, perhaps
03:14
some sleet and snow just lingering along some eastern coast as we go towards the afternoon.
03:18
But for many of us, it will be a drier and brighter afternoon with plenty of sunny spells
03:22
around, still some blustery showers and some sleet and snow showers across parts of Scotland.
03:27
But with that northerly wind quite widely across the UK, it will be feeling much chillier
03:31
for all of us, and particularly in the south where we've seen those milder temperatures
03:35
of late. There'll be some blustery winds, particularly along eastern coast as well.
03:38
So that will feel even colder here, but temperatures quite widely only in the low to mid-single
03:43
figures for most of us.
03:45
As we then go through towards the middle part of the week, that area of low pressure pushes
03:49
away towards the east across the continent, and that leaves us with those northerly winds
03:53
across much of the UK through Wednesday and into Thursday. So another chilly day to come
03:57
and another chilly night as well. We do just need to keep an eye though on this next area
04:01
of low pressure. Most model runs are keeping it towards the south of the UK, but there
04:05
is just a hint that it could come a little bit further north, skirting the south coast
04:09
of the UK, so perhaps bringing some further issues here. But something that we're keeping
04:12
an eye on, and for the moment it does look like it's staying further south. But that
04:15
northerly wind continues through the back end of the week, so generally staying cold
04:19
for most of us, with some blustery showers and perhaps some more sleet and snow in places.
04:24
So still quite a lot of uncertainty in the forecast as we go through the week. So do
