Good afternoon, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. So some colder
00:05
temperatures on the way for much of the UK but turning generally more unsettled as we
00:09
go in towards the new working week. This is all thanks to this area of low pressure moving
00:13
in from the northwest as we go through Monday and Tuesday. There is still a little bit of
00:17
uncertainty on the exact position of it and it's that boundary of warm and cold air with
00:21
those weather fronts that could bring some disruptive sleet and snow through Monday and
00:24
Tuesday. As we go through Tuesday though that pushes out towards the east leaving northerly
00:28
winds across much of the UK so turning colder through the middle part of the week for all
00:32
of us. But back to the rest of this afternoon, a bit of a mixed picture for most of us, some
00:37
sunny spells, some scattered showers, the showers most prevalent across western areas
00:41
and again these could turn to sleet and snow across the very far north of Scotland. There
00:44
will be some sunshine between those showers particularly across parts of Northern Ireland,
00:48
central southern parts of Scotland too but it will be feeling really chilly in those
00:51
northerly winds despite any sunshine across parts of Scotland, temperatures struggling
00:55
to reach much above 4 or 5 degrees. Further south we are just holding on to those slightly
01:00
milder conditions, temperatures here closer to average for the time of year, maybe 11
01:04
or 12 degrees. As we then go through the rest of Sunday, any showery rain that we see continues
01:10
to push its way southwards across much of England and Wales so generally turning much
01:13
drier for central parts of Scotland, northern parts of England, plenty of clear skies to
01:18
start the day on Monday here. Still plenty of showers, particularly turning to snow across
01:23
northern parts of Scotland, we could see up to 10 centimetres of snow building up through
01:26
Monday morning but generally further south just staying that little bit cloudier, plenty
01:30
of showery rain to come and staying a little bit milder under that cloud and rain too although
01:34
temperatures will still be dropping into the single figures. Where we do see the clearest
01:38
skies though further north, quite a harsh frost developing during Monday morning, temperatures
01:43
dropping below zero particularly in rural spots and this could lead to some icy stretches
01:47
on any untreated roads so do take care during Monday morning's rush hour. It will be a bright
01:52
bit chilly start for the northern half of the UK on Monday morning, a little bit cloudier
01:56
for much of England and Wales though as that initial area of rain pushes offshore and then
01:59
that area of low pressure I previously mentioned brings an area of rain across parts of Northern
02:04
Ireland, could be particularly heavy in places, turning to sleet and snow over the hills through
02:08
Monday afternoon. Further east, generally staying a little bit drier, there could be
02:11
some sunshine perhaps turning a little hazy through the afternoon but still feeling really
02:15
quite chilly in that northerly breeze, temperatures only around three or four degrees in places
02:20
but again still holding on to that milder air just across the southwest, temperatures
02:24
here around average around 10 or 11 degrees. As we then go through Monday evening, that
02:30
area of low pressure bringing those outbreaks of rain across Northern Ireland push their
02:33
way eastwards across into northern parts of England. Again, still a little uncertainty
02:38
in the exact position of this but we could see up to 20 centimetres of snow falling over
02:42
the Pennines and most likely falling as rain to lower levels but there is a chance of some
02:46
disruptive sleet and snow during Tuesday morning's rush hour so do keep up to date
02:50
with the latest warnings on that. Across parts of Scotland, a little bit drier, still some
02:54
snow showers across the very far north and further south some quite blustery showers
02:58
pushing up on a brisk southwesterly breeze but it will still be quite a mild night here
03:03
under all that cloud and rain but another chilly night to come and a chilly start to
03:07
the day on Tuesday. As I mentioned, still quite a bit of uncertainty on the exact position
03:12
of that area of low pressure so do make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel and keep
03:15
up to date with any warnings via our website and social media channels. Bye for now.
