Good morning. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. It's been a chilly
00:05
start for some of us this morning with some cold northerly air across northern parts of
00:08
the UK. Over the coming days, though, we do need to watch this area of low pressure sliding
00:13
its way south and eastwards through Monday and Tuesday. And it's on that boundary between
00:16
the warm air and the cold air where we see those weather fronts perhaps bringing some
00:20
disruptive sleet and snow, particularly into parts of Tuesday. As that clears its way eastwards
00:25
through Tuesday afternoon, that leaves us with northerly winds across the whole of the
00:28
UK, so turning widely much colder for all of us in towards the middle part of the week.
00:34
Back to what we've got out there at the moment, though, and quite a chilly and icy start
00:37
perhaps across parts of Scotland. So do take care during Monday morning's rush hour. But
00:41
further south, a bit of a cloudier start to the day, some heavy outbreaks of rain across
00:45
southern parts of England through the first part of the day. And then we see that weather
00:48
front arriving across parts of Northern Ireland, likely falling as rain to lower levels. But
00:53
we could perhaps see some sleet and snow over the hills during Monday afternoon. Plenty
00:59
of clear spells and sunny spells to end the day, that sunshine perhaps turning a little
01:02
hazy across northern parts of England through Monday afternoon. And it'll be feeling a cold
01:06
day in the north as well with those northerly winds. Temperatures here in the low single
01:10
figures, perhaps only two or three degrees as a maximum. However, further south, we are
01:14
just holding on to that mild air for another day or so to the south of that weather front.
01:20
So as we then go through Monday evening, that weather front across parts of Northern
01:23
Ireland pushes its way eastwards into northern parts of England. And it's here that we could
01:27
see that disruptive snow into the start of Tuesday. Again, it will most likely be falling
01:32
as rain to lower levels, although we could perhaps see up to 20 centimetres of snow falling
01:37
across the Pennines by the time we get to Tuesday morning. And there is a chance that
01:40
we could see some sleet and snow falling to lower levels during Tuesday morning as well.
01:45
So that's where we could see disruption during Tuesday morning's rush hour. Further south,
01:49
there will be some blustery showers around as well. But across Northern Ireland and parts
01:52
of Scotland, generally a drier start to the day on Tuesday. But with clear skies, that
01:56
does mean quite a chilly start to with temperatures again dropping down below zero, particularly
02:01
in some rural spots. So again, there could be some ice in places and further south still
02:06
down in the single figures, although not quite as cold to start the day on Tuesday. So we
02:10
do have that risk of perhaps some sleet and snow to lower levels during Tuesday morning.
02:15
It does clear its way eastwards relatively quickly through Tuesday, although perhaps
02:18
a bit of snow and sleet just lingering along some eastern coasts and a really brisk northerly
02:23
wind here will make it feel particularly chilly. But for many of us, it will be a dry and bright
02:28
afternoon with plenty of sunny spells around, although still some sleet and snow showers
02:31
falling across northern parts of Scotland throughout much of Tuesday. With those northerly
02:36
winds, it'll be feeling much colder than we felt recently, particularly for the southern
02:39
half of the UK. Temperatures here only around seven or eight degrees and in the north only
02:44
around three or four degrees. And for eastern parts of England, where we do see that really
02:48
brisk northerly breeze, it will be feeling much colder still. As we then go through
02:53
the rest of Tuesday, it'll be another chilly night to come and those colder temperatures
02:56
are likely to persist through much of the week. But do make sure you keep up to date
