Hello there, welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. It remains cloudy and damp and a
00:06
wet Christmas for many of us and that's thanks to an area of low pressure. But it is slowly
00:12
moving out of the way and we'll see a ridge of high pressure just about moving in for
00:16
Boxing Day, allowing something a little more settled. However, it then turns wet and very
00:22
windy as we move through Wednesday itself. Met Office warnings out for many parts of
00:28
the country. So if you are travelling on Wednesday, it is worth staying attuned to
00:32
the forecast. For the rest of Christmas Day, a cloudy picture for many of us. Outbreaks
00:38
of rain which could be heavy at times, particularly over western parts of Wales, some drizzly
00:43
bits and pieces in places. Showers across Northern Ireland, Northern England into Scotland,
00:47
some of these heavy at times. And then a band of showery rain bumping into colder air will
00:52
lead to some snow across the higher ground of Scotland, generally above 200 metres or
00:57
so, perhaps as much as 5 to 10 centimetres over the higher ground. So a white Christmas
01:02
but for the vast majority a wet Christmas. And a mild one too. Temperatures 11, 12, 13
01:08
Celsius under the cloud and rain across England and Wales. Colder further north, 6 or 7 across
01:13
parts of Scotland. Into the evening time, further blustery showers across the northern
01:19
half of the UK. The rain across England and Wales slowly pushing away into the early hours.
01:24
Showers initially but even these start to fade away as we move into the start of Boxing
01:29
Day. Clear skies for many and that will allow it to turn quite chilly. Temperatures dipping
01:35
lower than they have done of late. Low single figures below, freezing across the glens of
01:39
Scotland. With wintry showers across northern Scotland, we could see some icy stretches
01:43
developing. But that means a bright start for many on Boxing Day. Sunny spells, a few
01:49
showers initially but dry day for many. Plenty of blue skies and that's a great day then
01:55
to be out and about, working off that Christmas dinner. However, cloud and rain does spread
02:01
into the south-west as we move into the afternoon. Parts of Devon and Cornwall seeing some outbreaks
02:05
of rain and the sunshine becoming increasingly hazy. Best of the blue skies across parts
02:10
of Scotland. Those wintry showers across the far north-east continuing. So for most a dry
02:16
day and temperatures a little bit more festive as well. Generally 4-6 Celsius across the
02:21
north of the UK. Still mild across the very far south-west as that cloud and rain moves
02:25
back in 11 or 12 degrees. It's all changed then through Boxing Day evening time and into
02:32
Wednesday as these weather systems start to move in. So outbreaks of rain pushing slowly
02:36
north-eastwards across parts of England and Wales. A chilly night and evening across parts
02:42
of Scotland. Temperatures falling below freezing here. And then for Wednesday a very unsettled
02:48
day. So if you are travelling do take extra care. Outbreaks of heavy rain pushing north-eastwards
02:52
across much of the country. Bumping into colder air across Scotland will lead to some snowfall
02:58
here. Very strong winds too. Gusts of 50-60mph possible across southern and western coasts
03:03
of England and Wales. Perhaps even just as strong across parts of Northern Ireland and
03:08
Western Scotland too. Showery rain following some of this heavy at times. And temperatures
03:14
with strong and gusty winds coming in from the south it will generally be mild. 12 or
03:18
13 Celsius though. With the strength of the wind it won't feel quite as mild as the numbers
03:23
suggest. Cold air across Scotland just about holding on. Particularly over the higher ground
03:28
where the snow continues. So it remains unsettled as we move through the week ahead. Something
03:34
a little quieter for Boxing Day. So do stay tuned to the forecast over the coming days.
03:39
See you again soon.
