Hello there, welcome to your latest broadcast from the Met Office. Mixed fortunes across
00:05
the UK through the rest of Sunday, but into the beginning of the new working week turning
00:09
unsettled as an area of low pressure develops and moves in from the Atlantic, bringing wet
00:13
and windy weather. Brief respite into Tuesday for a time, but then the next area of low
00:19
pressure moves in as we head towards the middle of the week. So, rest of the week looks fairly
00:24
unsettled and windy at times. For Sunday afternoon, we'll see bands of showery rain pushing their
00:29
way eastwards across the UK, a few heavy bursts at times, but in between there will be some
00:34
sunny spells and in the sunshine it won't feel too bad with generally light winds. We
00:38
still have some rain across the far north-east of Scotland, but this should ease away as
00:42
we move through the rest of the day. In terms of temperatures, feeling a little bit chilly,
00:47
particularly across the north of the UK, high 789 Celsius. Further south we could see highs
00:52
around 12 degrees, so similar to what we saw through the first half of the weekend. Through
00:57
Sunday evening, showers should start to fade away, skies will begin to clear and overnight
01:02
we'll see a frost forming across the north and east of the UK, some patches of fog forming,
01:08
some icy stretches possible as we move from northern England into eastern Scotland. But
01:13
it's a different story for parts of Northern Ireland, south-west Wales into the West Country
01:17
here. Cloud and rain and stronger winds move in through the night, so temperatures actually
01:22
rise as this moves in. Here lows initially down to low single figures, but rising to
01:28
8 or 9 as we head towards Monday morning. Elsewhere, still with those clear skies, temperatures
01:33
low single figures, perhaps as low as minus 3 or minus 4 in the glens of Scotland, leading
01:39
to those icy stretches first thing Monday morning. Perhaps a few mist and fog patches
01:43
around too. So, wet and windy across Northern Ireland, parts of Wales, the West Country
01:48
to start the morning. Wind gusts across parts of South Wales, Devon and Cornwall, 60mph,
01:53
possibly a little bit higher. So, we do have a Met Office warning in force as this low
01:57
pressure spirals around, pushes bands of rain across much of England and Wales. The rain
02:02
could be heavy as well across Northern Ireland. Generally, across the far north of the UK,
02:07
so much of Scotland, northern England, it will get away with a dry day here, some sunny
02:12
spells, though showers will feed in from the North Sea here. Still some chilly air here,
02:17
so temperatures 7, 8, 9 Celsius. But further south, with the low pressure, starts to draw
02:22
in some milder air, so temperatures up to around 12 degrees. But with the strength of
02:26
the winds, particularly across the south west, you won't notice it turning a little bit milder.
02:32
Then through the evening on Monday, this low pressure starts to fill, it starts to ease,
02:36
so the rain just becoming lighter. The winds falling a little bit less strong as we move
02:41
through into the evening time, but still gusts of 40, 50mph exposed coasts here. The rain
02:46
becoming more showery, some clearer spells developing. Further north across Northern
02:50
Ireland into Scotland, some clear spells, so a chilly end to the day. Still some showers
02:55
across the north and east of Scotland. So quite a bit going on with the weather over
02:59
the next few days, particularly through Monday across the south of the UK. So if you'd like
03:03
more information on this and the weather where you are over the next few days, the week ahead,
03:08
you can follow us on our social media channels. I'll see you again soon.
