With beautiful, unspoilt forests and wilderness and first-class medieval architecture, the Czech Republic has seen huge rises in international tourist numbers. Prague is essential for the medieval elements, such as the imposing castle, the elegant bridge across the Vltava River and town square which connects the city centre's cobbled streets and large numbers of the population during evenings and weekends. The capital is also adored for its beer spa and vibrant night scene. Český Krumlov is much further south but also bisected by the Vlatva River and with its own impressive castle complex of 40 buildings amalgamated together. Kutna Hora's cathedral took approximately 600 years to fully build but gives off a medieval feel with its open court and menacing artwork and statues. Brno is a popular student town and the country's second city with an 11th century cathedral situated atop the nearby hills. It serves, in part as a museum to the city, housing numerous Bohemian relics, pulpit, crypts and remnants of the old city walls. In the same region as Brno is Moravian Karst, a geological wonder of caves, canyons, underground rivers and sinkholes which is also likely to be the most terrifying place to get lost in this gothic-styled country.
