00:00:00Previously on Project Runway.
00:00:02Your challenge is to reinvent the tuxedo.
00:00:05We brought in some help.
00:00:06Oh, my God.
00:00:07Looking very glamorous.
00:00:11I'm back.
00:00:12Oh, no.
00:00:13I've never done menswear.
00:00:15One side pinched up.
00:00:16What happened there?
00:00:17This looks really bad.
00:00:20It's a leg story.
00:00:23The drama of him walking down this runway is so right on.
00:00:28Marquise, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:00:33This is hard to look at.
00:00:34There's so many things that were wrong with this.
00:00:36Brittany, you are out.
00:00:38I'm so sorry.
00:00:40You're gonna have to endure this a little bit longer.
00:00:43Are you serious?
00:00:44I have to show him that I'm worthy of the save.
00:00:50At stake for the winner,
00:00:52a quarter of a million dollars,
00:00:54courtesy of Blueprint.
00:00:56A feature in Elle magazine?
00:00:58$50,000 supplied by Pilot FriXion erasable pants.
00:01:03And a career-changing mentorship
00:01:04with the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
00:01:08This is Project Runway.
00:01:10That's great.
00:01:22Egg down.
00:01:23Whew.
00:01:25I'm glad I'm waking up here in the house to y'all's faces.
00:01:27I know.
00:01:28I still can't get over what happened.
00:01:31I'm so relieved that I've been brought back for redemption.
00:01:35Final Four is where I want to be.
00:01:37Welcome to the Resurrection Club.
00:01:39I know.
00:01:40Me and you know how it is to, like, come back from the dead.
00:01:42Designers better watch out,
00:01:43because I'm gonna plow through this competition.
00:01:47Come on, guys.
00:01:48We gotta get to our next challenge.
00:01:49Y'all all ready?
00:01:50We coming.
00:01:51Going to the work.
00:01:52So happy.
00:01:53So happy.
00:02:10Oh, hello, hello.
00:02:12Good morning, designers.
00:02:13Good morning.
00:02:14Good morning.
00:02:15Brittany.
00:02:16Hi, Carly.
00:02:17Welcome back.
00:02:19I'm so happy.
00:02:20We are so happy for that Siriano save.
00:02:22Yes.
00:02:23I'm thrilled.
00:02:24There's only a few challenges left before four of you make collections for New York Fashion
00:02:30Week.
00:02:31So let's get to it.
00:02:33What is the first thing that you think about when I say tie dye?
00:02:38Hippies.
00:02:39Hippies?
00:02:40My childhood.
00:02:41Summer camp?
00:02:42Yes.
00:02:43Sixties.
00:02:44Sixties?
00:02:45I lived in the sixties.
00:02:48It was just people sharing love, peace, not worrying about rules, and being their own
00:02:55self.
00:02:56And that's what I'm doing now.
00:02:57So maybe this is my hippie revolution.
00:02:59We want you guys to erase all these old ideas and take tie dye from dated and casual
00:03:06to fresh and fashionable.
00:03:08Look!
00:03:09Nina looks so good.
00:03:11Woo!
00:03:12Whoa!
00:03:13Please welcome Nina Garcia.
00:03:16Hello, designers.
00:03:19Tie dye is having a real moment.
00:03:22Designers have been inspired by the sixties, the counterculture from Prada to Dior to Stella
00:03:29McCartney.
00:03:30It's all about the tie dye.
00:03:31If Prada could do tie dye for me, you guys can do it too.
00:03:37So your challenge is to elevate tie dye into a runway chic look using textiles that you
00:03:44create.
00:03:45That's right.
00:03:46You're tie dyeing.
00:03:48Waiting for you in the workroom are two experts from New York's finest dyeing company, Metro
00:03:55Dyeing.
00:03:56These are the dyers that work for Oscar de la Renta, Prenses Kuler, all the top designers.
00:04:02They'll be giving you a master class at professional level high dye techniques.
00:04:07They'll also provide all the dyes and base materials that you'll need.
00:04:11Guys, this is a one day challenge.
00:04:13Okay.
00:04:14Okay.
00:04:15Well, actually, it's gonna take a good amount of time for your textiles to dry, so we're
00:04:19giving you a little extra time.
00:04:21This is a one day and night challenge.
00:04:25Oh.
00:04:26It's a sleepover.
00:04:27A sleepover?
00:04:28It's a sleepover.
00:04:29No.
00:04:30Yes.
00:04:31You guys are gonna work from now until tomorrow's runway show.
00:04:36What?
00:04:37Delvin, you look really depressed.
00:04:40I'm not going to sleep in this workroom.
00:04:44I'm not sleeping in it.
00:04:51Marquise, you won the last challenge and you have first choice of model.
00:04:57Who is it gonna be?
00:04:58You win.
00:04:59You win.
00:05:00Winner, winner.
00:05:01Yes.
00:05:02Everyone else, whatever you get, you have to keep.
00:05:05Da-da-da-da.
00:05:08All right.
00:05:09You guys can head to the workroom now for your dyeing lesson and then you'll head to
00:05:13Mood to meet Christian for supplemental fabrics and notions.
00:05:18Okay.
00:05:19And guys, there's no more immunity on the table, so stakes are high.
00:05:23We'll both see you guys on the runway tomorrow.
00:05:27Good luck, guys.
00:05:28Good luck.
00:05:29And enjoy your sleepover.
00:05:30I will.
00:05:33Oh my God.
00:05:34What's going on?
00:05:35Hi.
00:05:36Hi, designers.
00:05:37Hi, designers.
00:05:38This is Kate.
00:05:39I'm Craig.
00:05:40We're from Metro Dyeing and today we're gonna show you how to do
00:05:42five different tie dye techniques.
00:05:44Yay.
00:05:45Awesome.
00:05:46Wow.
00:05:47So we're gonna start with ring burst.
00:05:49Get ready.
00:05:50We use zip ties and plastic to cover the fabric.
00:05:54And when you cover it, it stops the dye from going in.
00:05:57So then you get those white spots on your fabric.
00:06:00Shrap plastic for big rings.
00:06:03I am completely ready to dye right now, like literally and physically.
00:06:07And if you do want them to bleed and touch, how tight are you thinking?
00:06:10So I would do like hand tight.
00:06:11Hand tight.
00:06:12Okay.
00:06:13Tie dye is usually for like pot smoking and like do it in the park with your friends.
00:06:18Don't stab me.
00:06:19I feel like this is a challenge I definitely could eat on.
00:06:24On silk, it's gonna be pretty much what you see is what you get.
00:06:27On cotton, when it dries, it is going to lighten significantly.
00:06:31I can't hold that much information.
00:06:33And we're gonna move on.
00:06:34E.
00:06:35The stripe burst tie dye.
00:06:37Sun burst, moon burst, bubble burst.
00:06:40Pleat it like this.
00:06:41Spot burst.
00:06:42Zip burst.
00:06:43I don't know.
00:06:44This is the ombre dye.
00:06:45Just go to the point where you get it as dark as you want it.
00:06:48I think I am the only designer taking notes at this point.
00:06:52Does it have to be on like a high heat or?
00:06:53No, no.
00:06:54So silk you want to dry at like low.
00:06:56I want to make sure that I remember everything.
00:06:58I'm not going to play with the fire in this challenge.
00:07:00The darker you want it to turn out, the longer you want it to sit.
00:07:04Then rinse off the main color.
00:07:09I don't know what's happening.
00:07:11All right, you guys.
00:07:12Reveal.
00:07:13Woo!
00:07:14America!
00:07:15Oh, so nice.
00:07:17My first taste.
00:07:19It's very cute.
00:07:20I like the color.
00:07:21I'm a professional already.
00:07:23So we have left here for you a nice selection of cotton and silk dyes
00:07:28and fabrics laid out for you guys to use.
00:07:30Sweet.
00:07:31Thank you so much.
00:07:32Good luck, you guys.
00:07:34Wow.
00:07:35Awesome.
00:07:40That's going to soak up a lot of that color really well.
00:07:43One thing that I've learned throughout my career
00:07:45is that silks take color way better than cotton.
00:07:48I love the way this looks.
00:07:50So I'm going to do the duchess satin and actually the charmeuse.
00:07:53Cottons, they always look dull and dated.
00:07:56And so I never want to be that dull or dated designer.
00:07:59I'm going to do cotton twill.
00:08:01I'm going to use shirting fabric with cotton twill.
00:08:09Let the masterpiece begin.
00:08:11Tie dye can be beautiful, but it's falling into the threat of a print challenge.
00:08:22I don't want to over design.
00:08:24Print is plenty loud on its own, so I'm going to keep it chic and expensive.
00:08:28Oh.
00:08:33The inspiration for my look is just a girly girl who loves to have a look at me moment.
00:08:39Ooh, heavy.
00:08:40My look is completely feminine, which they haven't seen anything like that from me yet.
00:08:45This should be good.
00:08:46Let's see that testing.
00:08:48I'm going with the ring burst technique in different colors so that it just draws your eye in.
00:08:59Before Mood shopping, we're getting a chance to actually practice and test some samples.
00:09:04So you did the Kelly green for that green?
00:09:06Yeah.
00:09:07I needed to sit a little bit longer, though.
00:09:10I decide that I'm going to use that time to actually start draping my garment.
00:09:14I'm not going to worry about the dyeing right now.
00:09:16I want to make sure I have pants ready for Severin to try on.
00:09:19No second guessing.
00:09:21What you making?
00:09:23So I want you to buy denim and make this even how I have my shorts but with pants.
00:09:29This is shirting fabric.
00:09:30I just want to keep this white, a lot of colors, and all denim here.
00:09:35You know what you're making?
00:09:36Yeah.
00:09:37What?
00:09:38It's a jacket dress.
00:09:40It's going to be a dress inspired by a phoenix using red, orange, yellow.
00:09:45Like the riser from the ashes.
00:09:47It's going to be like a high neck and curved.
00:09:49So it's an opening.
00:09:50The buttons are going to be invisible.
00:09:52Last week I was in the bottom.
00:09:54It's a leprechaun and a corset.
00:09:56So being inspired by the phoenix, it kind of is like my rebirth considering all the critiques
00:10:02that I've received.
00:10:03Just a little difference from what we made before.
00:10:06From what?
00:10:07From, you know, coats, jacket.
00:10:10Yeah.
00:10:11Delvin's afraid to take risks.
00:10:14At this point in this competition, judges want to see more than less.
00:10:18I mean, but I've never made anything like this.
00:10:20Just ask a few other designers and you'll see.
00:10:24Coming up, what are the colors?
00:10:26Do you have any tests?
00:10:27No.
00:10:28You haven't done anything?
00:10:29No.
00:10:30You're scaring me.
00:10:34What you doing, Jeffrey?
00:10:36It's supposed to be black.
00:10:37It's just turning out gray.
00:10:38But I think I'm just impatient.
00:10:39Well, they did say you have to let it boil.
00:10:42With silk?
00:10:43Oh.
00:10:44Is it with Britney?
00:10:46Britney, is silk boil first?
00:10:47The black dye.
00:10:48Was that boiling the black dye with silk and with the cotton?
00:10:51I thought it was cold.
00:10:52Cold for silk.
00:10:54Seriously?
00:10:55Should've taken notes.
00:10:57Just depends on how much sabotage I want to do.
00:11:00If I want to share notes or not.
00:11:01For silk it's cold.
00:11:02For cotton it's hot.
00:11:03First in water or not?
00:11:04Yes.
00:11:05How long do they sit and let it sit?
00:11:07Five to ten minutes.
00:11:08The other designers helped me throughout this competition.
00:11:11So I'm more than willing to help.
00:11:12But it's definitely handy to take notes, folks.
00:11:16You're welcome.
00:11:17Like the black is just gray no matter what I've done.
00:11:20Yeah, I'm gonna do yellow instead.
00:11:22Oh my God, I'm so excited.
00:11:24Me too.
00:11:25Really?
00:11:26I can't wait to get dirty.
00:11:27Moldova.
00:11:28Moldova style.
00:11:29Ow.
00:11:30I'm very focused this challenge to show judges something different from what I made before
00:11:39in this competition.
00:11:40Before I made everything very fitted, sexy, and now I want to change the strategy.
00:11:46Like I'm telling Delvin the same thing that his design looks very similar with what he made
00:11:51before.
00:11:52Now I want to do something more casual.
00:11:54Oh my God.
00:11:55Oh my God.
00:11:56All right, guys.
00:11:57Let's go to Mood and get some supplemental stuff.
00:12:00Oh my God.
00:12:01Very fast.
00:12:02I can get very fast.
00:12:03No.
00:12:04Toasty.
00:12:05At least our fabrics will drive really fast out here.
00:12:16Hi, guys.
00:12:17Hi.
00:12:18Back at Mood.
00:12:19Yep.
00:12:20It's time to buy your supplemental fabrics, but make sure your tie-dye is a real hero here.
00:12:24You guys have $175 and 30 minutes to shop.
00:12:28You guys ready?
00:12:29Yes.
00:12:30Really ready?
00:12:31Yes.
00:12:32Yeah, ready, ready.
00:12:33Go.
00:12:34Get that clock going, Jeffrey.
00:12:37How much is this here?
00:12:38$3.
00:12:39Can you give me $10?
00:12:40Yes.
00:12:41Cool.
00:12:42What are you doing?
00:12:43Buying the infrastructure for the tie-dye.
00:12:46I'm going to have these panels cut out in 3D and then kind of like a window effect.
00:12:51I'm going to do ombre on the window effects and they're all around, these 3D panels.
00:12:56The whole thing is tie-dye.
00:12:57Great.
00:12:58Yeah.
00:12:59Can I have three art, please?
00:13:00Three?
00:13:01That color is scary.
00:13:02This is scary.
00:13:03I'm trying to give like a hunter vibe.
00:13:04I don't know.
00:13:05Who's wearing that?
00:13:08This mood trip is a little bit more challenging.
00:13:10I'm trying to find a complimentary fabric to go with my tie-dye, but I can't settle on my design until I know what the fabric's looking like.
00:13:17Yeah.
00:13:19Have fun.
00:13:20Thanks.
00:13:21Good luck.
00:13:22Brittany, where are you?
00:13:25Are you getting this?
00:13:26Yeah.
00:13:27I was about to buy some of this flocked velvet.
00:13:31Brittany, are you upstairs?
00:13:33Huh?
00:13:34Brittany, where are you?
00:13:36I'm over here.
00:13:37Oh.
00:13:38What are you doing?
00:13:40So I've got tulle and I was thinking organza, just for detail.
00:13:44This is going to be the ring first.
00:13:46Mm-hmm.
00:13:47Tie-dye.
00:13:48And then I'm doing the ombre on the parts of the chiffon that are like gathered.
00:13:51It's going to be sewn perfectly.
00:13:53Okay.
00:13:54All right, guys.
00:13:55Six minutes left.
00:13:56Bow bow.
00:13:57Two more yards of each of those.
00:13:59Okay, I think I did it.
00:14:00Good to see you're still alive.
00:14:01I know.
00:14:02I'm still standing.
00:14:03I know.
00:14:05Yes.
00:14:06You guys got everything you need?
00:14:07Yes.
00:14:08Yes.
00:14:09All right.
00:14:10I will see you guys in a couple hours for the walk-through.
00:14:11Thank you, boo.
00:14:12Thank you, boo.
00:14:14Let's go make out of .
00:14:20Oh, you are so right.
00:14:23Yeah.
00:14:24All right.
00:14:25I need to get to work.
00:14:27Is that blue in that water?
00:14:29It's green.
00:14:30Why would you contaminate my water?
00:14:32This is sabotage.
00:14:33This is not sabotage.
00:14:34This is not sabotage.
00:14:35You use this to boil up your bottoms.
00:14:38It's starting to formulate this vision.
00:14:41Even though last week I was on the bottom, I am bringing back another pair of pants.
00:14:47This was one of my least favorite because we've seen those pants before.
00:14:52Want to see what else you can do?
00:14:54I have a new version.
00:14:55I'm going to make these pants overlaid with my organza.
00:14:58These pants are totally different as far as I'm concerned.
00:15:02Do you think I can get away with just tie-dying up here or do I need to hit hips as well?
00:15:13It's top seven.
00:15:15Yeah.
00:15:16It doesn't have nothing like a wow moment, you know?
00:15:20I'm going to sketch.
00:15:23It's been a complete rollercoaster ride throughout this competition.
00:15:27What I created last week was so beautiful, but I don't know if the judges understood my message fully.
00:15:33In my opinion, when America was great was maybe the 1950s.
00:15:37The 1950s was not a great time in America for people of color.
00:15:41Yeah.
00:15:42They're always telling me, just keep it above the clothing.
00:15:45So I feel like the judges are afraid of me.
00:15:48Hey, Papi.
00:15:51What are you up to?
00:15:54I am dead tired.
00:15:57And then today, guess what the challenge is?
00:16:00Making a dress while not sleeping until the next day.
00:16:04Let me tell you something.
00:16:05No matter what happens, I'm so proud of you.
00:16:10Not only am I putting out beautiful clothes, but I'm taking on such difficult topics.
00:16:14That says a lot about who I am as a person and as a designer.
00:16:18I'm willing to take on the world.
00:16:20You and I are going to make something happen for this world that's going to change this world.
00:16:25I miss you so much, but I know you can get through this.
00:16:29Okay, Papi.
00:16:30I love you and I have to go.
00:16:32Okay.
00:16:33Alright.
00:16:34Bye.
00:16:35Oh, okay.
00:16:37I feel a lot better.
00:16:39We are so pressed for time and we still have looks to completely be sewn together.
00:16:54Hot.
00:16:55There's no way we're going to sleep.
00:16:57No way.
00:16:58I think I figured out my color palette.
00:17:00Pink, purple, green, and orange.
00:17:02Hi, guys.
00:17:04Wow.
00:17:05It's a laboratory of color in here.
00:17:07Oh, my God.
00:17:08It's wet everywhere.
00:17:09This is amazing.
00:17:11Really?
00:17:12Nobody wants to gift me a shirt?
00:17:14What size?
00:17:15I'm a small.
00:17:16A save for a t-shirt?
00:17:17A save for a t-shirt.
00:17:19I don't know if I'm getting the right deal, but...
00:17:21I actually did this one.
00:17:22Did you really?
00:17:23Yeah.
00:17:24Can I have it?
00:17:25Yeah, I can have it.
00:17:26Victoria, look.
00:17:27It's your color.
00:17:28Isn't it my color?
00:17:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:17:30I look right in green.
00:17:31Yeah, it's...
00:17:32I really do.
00:17:33How did you like the tie-dye lesson?
00:17:36I loved it.
00:17:37You loved it?
00:17:38I loved it, because I've done just ice dyeing.
00:17:40Ice dyeing?
00:17:41What you do is you take your piece of tied fabric, and you cover it with ice.
00:17:45And you have powder dye, and they sprinkle it.
00:17:48And I do ice dyeing with all the refugee women in Philadelphia.
00:17:51Oh, that's very cool.
00:17:52While at fashion school, my goal was doing something important through my fashion.
00:17:57My first opportunity was to work with the Refugee Women's Textile Initiative.
00:18:02Teaching refugee women ice dyeing and making scarves.
00:18:06What type of technique are you going to do?
00:18:08Do you have any tests?
00:18:09No.
00:18:10I haven't done anything.
00:18:11You haven't done anything?
00:18:12No.
00:18:13What are you doing?
00:18:14What are you doing?
00:18:15I'm making sure I have something for the models when they come in that I can fit.
00:18:18But you want a full look, and then you'll dye it.
00:18:20I definitely want to...
00:18:21I think you should get to dyeing.
00:18:23I really do.
00:18:24It's scaring me.
00:18:25Coming up.
00:18:26Guess I should've went with silk, because the more I rinse this out, all my color is just
00:18:30leaving.
00:18:31Oh, God.
00:18:32Hello, Marquis.
00:18:33Hey, Christian.
00:18:34What are you doing?
00:18:35This.
00:18:36Interesting.
00:18:37That little ring burst.
00:18:38It's quite sweet and feminine, which is interesting, because I haven't really seen that.
00:18:51I think the idea is to erase that old kind of thinking of tie-dye and making it feel really fresh and exciting.
00:19:00So I think this kind of reminds me of the old...
00:19:04Old school tie-dye.
00:19:05Old school tie-dye.
00:19:06What's this silhouette?
00:19:07So it's this pleated skirt with another tear?
00:19:09Two more tears, then this is going to have sleeves.
00:19:12I think since you have a lot done, maybe you could play around a little bit more.
00:19:16Yeah.
00:19:17Good luck.
00:19:18No sleep.
00:19:22Hello, Jeffrey.
00:19:23Hello, Christian.
00:19:24What's going on with this rack?
00:19:27What?
00:19:28Oh, don't look at that.
00:19:29Don't look at it.
00:19:30Don't look at that.
00:19:31Oh, God.
00:19:32This is my revised pleated gown.
00:19:34Pleated gown.
00:19:35I'm trying to hit a more feminine palette.
00:19:38Okay, so just curious.
00:19:40So what's the technique?
00:19:41So this, the whole thing.
00:19:43Pretty much head to toe.
00:19:45This ring burst.
00:19:46The ring burst.
00:19:47Okay.
00:19:48Mm.
00:19:49I don't know if it's the most beautiful color gown.
00:19:52Could this be a kind of more military gown?
00:19:57What if this is like the new camo?
00:19:59Mm-hmm.
00:20:00That could be cool.
00:20:01Okay.
00:20:02And that's your world.
00:20:03Okay.
00:20:04Growing up, I was really put off by the drab military palette.
00:20:09I was really attracted to like bright colors and sparkly things and all these things that
00:20:13just definitely didn't exist around an army base.
00:20:16But I'm realizing since I've become a lot closer with my father, really somber earth tones and military colors.
00:20:24They're definitely a big part of my current inspiration.
00:20:27I hope that helped.
00:20:28You helped a tremendous amount.
00:20:29Very stressed.
00:20:30I know.
00:20:31But I'm excited.
00:20:32I think if you do what I think you're going to do, it's going to be amazing.
00:20:34Okay.
00:20:35All right?
00:20:36Thank you, Christian.
00:20:37So this is the ring burst.
00:20:43Mm-hmm.
00:20:44And what do you call this?
00:20:45This is the horizontal strip burst.
00:20:47I think the silhouette needs to be really something interesting.
00:20:50Everyone's tie-dying.
00:20:51Mm-hmm.
00:20:52So it's kind of like the battle of what's also the best shape.
00:20:55Right.
00:20:56What feels new.
00:20:57Mm-hmm.
00:20:58What does the sleeve do?
00:20:59What happens in the front?
00:21:00That crisscross thing is quite interesting.
00:21:01Your open back crisscross piece that you did with Ashley Longshore was really cool.
00:21:05Yeah.
00:21:06I think it's about making this feel like that.
00:21:08Yeah.
00:21:09That made it feel quite modern.
00:21:10I'm doing something different as well.
00:21:11Yeah.
00:21:12Okay.
00:21:13You've got to bring it.
00:21:14I know.
00:21:15Christian using that save on me, it's a lot of pressure.
00:21:16Ooh.
00:21:17Oh, you're going to owe me a check.
00:21:18Let me tell you.
00:21:19I know.
00:21:25Ouch.
00:21:26.
00:21:27Just sprayed everywhere.
00:21:31I don't know what color to die.
00:21:33I think this is blue and green.
00:21:35Just trying to change the whole vibe of the dress.
00:21:37So it won't look too...
00:21:39Curly.
00:21:41Blue and green it is.
00:21:44This is going to read very tie-dye.
00:21:47And this is very elegant.
00:21:48So mixing these two worlds together is going to give more of a new feeling.
00:21:53I think the two ideas together...
00:21:55It's like a juxtaposition.
00:21:56Yeah.
00:21:57I hope that they work.
00:21:58But I think if they do work, it'll be amazing.
00:22:00Mm-hmm.
00:22:01So I think that will be something that you're going to kind of find out right when you start making it.
00:22:04So if it doesn't work, I mean, maybe you play around with other things.
00:22:08Yeah.
00:22:09All right.
00:22:10Good luck.
00:22:11Thanks, Christian.
00:22:15So I am starting with the ombre.
00:22:18This is my main color.
00:22:19Oh, so you're dyeing the blouse.
00:22:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:22:21This is a short over a pant, right?
00:22:23Yes.
00:22:24It's like this.
00:22:25Like that.
00:22:26Kind of like what you're wearing.
00:22:27I think with this shirt would be so cool.
00:22:29What's this then?
00:22:30Oh, I want to bleach one leg of the pants, but not too wide.
00:22:34Very, very thin.
00:22:35This?
00:22:36So no.
00:22:37Yeah.
00:22:38Bleached, washed, 2002, Brittany and Justin on the carpet.
00:22:41Oh, yes.
00:22:42That's the only thing that could make it look really dated.
00:22:46But you see, you know what I mean?
00:22:48I want you to play around with it.
00:22:50Hmm.
00:22:51Hmm.
00:22:52Exactly.
00:22:53Hmm.
00:22:54Dr. Delvin.
00:22:57Why, hello there.
00:22:58So excited to be in your laboratory over here.
00:23:01You got this coat off.
00:23:03Wow.
00:23:04Can't get that dirty.
00:23:08Out of the question.
00:23:09Um, how's it going?
00:23:10Uh, pretty good.
00:23:11So I'm using a sunburst tie dye.
00:23:13Since I'm playing with so much color, having a simple silhouette that's really chic.
00:23:18I want to have a...
00:23:19I love a coat dress.
00:23:20I know.
00:23:21I just don't want you to make this a too similar of a trench kind of coat dress.
00:23:26I think Delvin's playing it a bit safe.
00:23:29Maybe you could play around with the sleeves.
00:23:31Yeah.
00:23:32Or no sleeve.
00:23:33Yeah.
00:23:34I never want to make the same thing twice in this competition.
00:23:36I think that's grounds for going home.
00:23:38All right.
00:23:39You have a lot of work.
00:23:40Are you going to sleep?
00:23:41Oh, no.
00:23:42This is unusual for me.
00:23:43This is unusual?
00:23:44It's like prom season all over again.
00:23:45Mm-hmm.
00:23:46Right now, I do not have the funds to take my brand where I want it to be.
00:23:49For money, I do custom garments.
00:23:51So last time I pulled in all night, it was in prom season.
00:23:54Like, a couple months ago, you know?
00:23:57I had to get the orders out of the way.
00:23:59Yeah.
00:24:00So I'll be sewing through the night.
00:24:01You're in a great mood.
00:24:02Dr. Delvin is fabulous.
00:24:04All right.
00:24:07You guys ready?
00:24:08It's a midnight model fitting.
00:24:12Oh, my God.
00:24:13Hey, y'all.
00:24:14No.
00:24:15Back again.
00:24:16How are you?
00:24:17Let's do some damage.
00:24:18Someone to kind of just achieve, like, a little bit.
00:24:20Yeah, but I love the shape, though.
00:24:21It's really cool.
00:24:22Ugh.
00:24:24I'll be ready for you in, like, 60 seconds.
00:24:28This challenge is crazy.
00:24:30We don't have almost nothing because we have to tie-dye.
00:24:33Or the fabrics, yes.
00:24:35Last time I was awake all night was with my baby.
00:24:38Before my baby, I hated kids.
00:24:41But my opinion changed, and, of course, having a baby definitely is a challenge.
00:24:45But I learned I can work, like, day and night.
00:24:48Hmm.
00:24:49Nice.
00:24:50And this challenge is brutal.
00:24:52It's not going to be a cute one.
00:24:53Why?
00:24:54Just, it's just hard.
00:24:56Model fittings.
00:24:58I don't even see the point in this right now.
00:25:01Everybody's stuff is such a mess.
00:25:03No one's really sure how their pieces are coming out, or even what colors they're using at this point.
00:25:08This is such a disaster.
00:25:10Tomorrow we'll all go as we die.
00:25:12Literally.
00:25:14I guess I should've went with silk, because the more I rinse this out, all my color is just leaving.
00:25:19Oh, God.
00:25:21The cotton twill did not take to the dot.
00:25:24I can't even connect it to my inspiration at this point.
00:25:27This is the tie-dye, and it doesn't really look like anything.
00:25:33Anything.
00:25:34Anything.
00:25:35So.
00:25:36Yeah.
00:25:37Coming up.
00:25:38Sleepover!
00:25:39What is it?
00:25:40What is it?
00:25:41What is it?
00:25:42What is it?
00:25:43What is it?
00:25:44All right, designers, that's time.
00:25:46That's it with your models.
00:25:47I'll see ya.
00:25:48It's gonna be a long-ass night.
00:26:01All right, guys.
00:26:03It's a little late, but I do want to share some news.
00:26:07I can't take no more.
00:26:09Your guest judge tomorrow is my friend, actress and comedian, the fabulous Leslie Jones.
00:26:20I'm dying because I know she's gonna be funny.
00:26:23Like, her energy is through the roof, and I'm just waiting to see what a comedian is gonna be like on the runway as a judge.
00:26:31Buckle up.
00:26:32It's gonna be a fun one.
00:26:33Oh, my God.
00:26:34It's so amazing.
00:26:35All right, guys.
00:26:36I'll see you tomorrow for the runway.
00:26:37Good luck.
00:26:38See you tomorrow.
00:26:39Oh, my God, how much I have to wait to this cotton.
00:26:49Minimum, I would leave about 45 minutes.
00:26:52Start pattering your pieces.
00:26:56Now I have a pink jacket.
00:27:00So apparently silk takes to the dye stronger than the cotton does.
00:27:04Yeah, it does.
00:27:05Yep.
00:27:06Way more.
00:27:07That's why I picked it.
00:27:08I'm really surprised that Delvin and Victoria are using cotton at all.
00:27:13You have to let it sit for hours on end.
00:27:15Do we have hours on end?
00:27:17No, it's a one-day challenge.
00:27:18I wonder what'll happen if I don't rinse it that many times.
00:27:21The colors will bleed, and they'll be more like...
00:27:25Say no more.
00:27:26Say no more.
00:27:27Dead man walking.
00:27:30Is anybody else down for onesies?
00:27:33No.
00:27:34Well, I already got on mine.
00:27:35Well, I already got on mine.
00:27:39It's time to put on the onesies.
00:27:42Onesie, onesie, onesie.
00:27:44But only certain people are participating in this activity.
00:27:51I feel like a penguin.
00:27:56Not everybody's up for having fun.
00:28:00Sleepers!
00:28:01You always have your party poopers.
00:28:05I'm so tired.
00:28:07What the hell are you doing?
00:28:09Spicing it up a little.
00:28:10King George?
00:28:11I'm dead.
00:28:12So I'm finally ready to start dyeing my fabric.
00:28:16This is the real deal.
00:28:17I originally thought I would do a lot of pretty pastel colors, but when something feels right,
00:28:20I need to follow my gut and be truthful with myself.
00:28:24Voila.
00:28:25It's really nice.
00:28:26I'm so tired.
00:28:27I'm so tired.
00:28:28I'm so tired.
00:28:29What the hell are you doing?
00:28:30Spicing it up a little.
00:28:31King George?
00:28:32I'm dead.
00:28:33So I'm finally ready to start dyeing my fabric.
00:28:35This is the real deal.
00:28:36I originally thought I would do a lot of pretty pastel colors, but when something feels right,
00:28:39it's really nice.
00:28:40I've got this beautiful two-tone grid fabric.
00:28:44I'm good to go.
00:28:46I got one piece done.
00:28:48Seven more to go.
00:28:49Brittany, you got Dutchess satin left?
00:28:52Yeah.
00:28:53Give me five yards.
00:28:54Okay.
00:28:56Are you starting over?
00:28:57Yeah.
00:28:58I'm not gonna put a faded tie-dye down the runway because you can't really see the colors,
00:29:03and the point of this challenge is color.
00:29:05I hope I got enough fabric.
00:29:07Lord.
00:29:08I don't really want to redye everything, but I have no other choice.
00:29:13Oh.
00:29:16Oh, my Lord.
00:29:17Ugh.
00:29:20Oh, mother frack.
00:29:23God.
00:29:25I'm tired.
00:29:27This is by far the worst challenge.
00:29:29Think so?
00:29:30Yeah.
00:29:31What was your worst?
00:29:32Is this not the worst challenge?
00:29:33Brittany, you are out.
00:29:35Aside from the...
00:29:36Aside from the...
00:29:37We're not on speaking terms for the next hour.
00:29:45I'm gonna let that sit for about 10, 15 minutes just because you want it super, super saturated.
00:29:49Everything disappeared.
00:29:50Your color.
00:29:51All my techniques.
00:29:54Oh, my God.
00:29:56Everything is green.
00:29:58I tried to dye the fabrics before fittings. I tried to dye it after fittings, and it's just a dirty mess.
00:30:07Who has the extra silk?
00:30:09Silk?
00:30:10Whatever.
00:30:11Just a fabric that can...
00:30:12I can dye.
00:30:14Victoria, I have extra charmeuse.
00:30:16Three yards.
00:30:17Three yards.
00:30:18Okay, perfect.
00:30:19Thank you, Sergio.
00:30:20Generally, the judges love what Victoria does.
00:30:23Oh, my God.
00:30:24I have to dye it.
00:30:25I thought she would make the final four, but she's been struggling a lot for the last few challenges.
00:30:32Looks like she might be in trouble.
00:30:34I dyed the whole thing.
00:30:35The whole thing?
00:30:36Yeah.
00:30:37Now I have to be very fast to dye my fabric.
00:30:40The most what I'm worried about is everything.
00:30:43I'm worried about silk with denim.
00:30:45I'm worried about the tie-dye techniques, and I don't like it.
00:30:52Ah.
00:30:55It's like seafood.
00:30:58Miserable.
00:31:00This is a mess.
00:31:02I can't...
00:31:03I can't with this.
00:31:04I put my fabric in the green dye, but it's looking black.
00:31:07Black, black, black.
00:31:09I am horrified.
00:31:11But the water...
00:31:12I have no idea.
00:31:13I think I let the water boil too long, and it's oversaturated.
00:31:17It's absolutely unusable.
00:31:19Would you throw these in when you're done with them?
00:31:21They said it lightens up.
00:31:22Because I think there's potential here.
00:31:25I don't know.
00:31:26No, I do.
00:31:27All right, everybody.
00:31:29We got a pizza party pizza.
00:31:31Pizza party pizza.
00:31:33Pizza party pizza.
00:31:35Pizza party pizza.
00:31:36Pizza.
00:31:37Pizza.
00:31:42This is the gluten free stuff.
00:31:43You all right?
00:31:43I'm exhausted.
00:31:45Yo, mileage getting heavy.
00:31:47Maybe take off the lashes, they get a little lighter.
00:31:51We're having our own weird sense of fun
00:31:53because we're all feeling the pain together.
00:31:56I rinsed it, it's faded.
00:31:59I put it in the dryer, it just vanished.
00:32:02This is a night to remember.
00:32:04Jeffy, you have too much color.
00:32:05What do you have?
00:32:07You got to boil it for like three hours
00:32:10and then put your fabric in it.
00:32:11Put it all in and evaporate.
00:32:12Put your right into the hot pot.
00:32:14No wonder it's like, what?
00:32:15Do you have cotton?
00:32:16Huh?
00:32:17No, it's silk.
00:32:18It was silk.
00:32:19It was silk.
00:32:19Now it's cotton.
00:32:23Can I go peek?
00:32:24Yeah.
00:32:25Um, yeah.
00:32:26You stay, I'll get it.
00:32:27Okay.
00:32:28Jelden, what you gonna do?
00:32:29I'm gonna go to sleep.
00:32:31No, really.
00:32:32Hey, look, see, I told you.
00:32:34It's all right.
00:32:35I told you.
00:32:37Here I am having a full meltdown,
00:32:38but I guess the fabric just needed to be dried.
00:32:41Hmm.
00:32:42Oh, I mean, it actually looks,
00:32:44the color looks a lot better.
00:32:46It looks expensive.
00:32:47It's like dying, Dwayne, Dwayne, Dwayne.
00:32:52All right.
00:32:53Hey.
00:32:54Ready?
00:32:55Work, work, work, work, work.
00:32:56Let's go, let's go.
00:32:59Where's my Red Bull?
00:33:01Oh.
00:33:08Victoria.
00:33:09Oh, so cool.
00:33:12I'm happy with the colors and how it turned out.
00:33:15They're bleeding into each other like flames.
00:33:17It's completely perfect.
00:33:18Oh, my God.
00:33:21So, girl, how's your thing coming?
00:33:23In lane, go days on a curve.
00:33:26It sounds like a dream.
00:33:27Yeah.
00:33:30Woo.
00:33:31Slate.
00:33:32Oh.
00:33:33You need another Red Bull.
00:33:36Oh.
00:33:38That looks cool.
00:33:39Wow.
00:33:40Hello.
00:33:40Yeah, that's cool.
00:33:47Everybody, the runway is in a couple of hours.
00:33:52Oh, my God.
00:33:53Is that sinking in?
00:33:54Why is the sun coming up?
00:33:56Well, I think I'll cut my pattern now.
00:33:58What do you think?
00:33:58Is that a good time to do that?
00:34:00Time is ticking away.
00:34:02I'm now questioning, why didn't I start earlier?
00:34:06Oh, my God in heaven.
00:34:08I have to do eight panels for just the pants.
00:34:11I'm starting to panic.
00:34:13I'm too old for this.
00:34:15Coming up.
00:34:16What the heck?
00:34:17You have pieces of nothing.
00:34:19I'm not going to make it to the end.
00:34:22The sun is about to rise.
00:34:30Oh.
00:34:35Seeing the sun come up in the workroom is tiring, you know.
00:34:42Especially when you know you have a long runway ahead of you.
00:34:49I can barely talk.
00:34:50I'm so tired.
00:34:57I finally see progress, Jesus Christ.
00:35:01They want to add like maybe some drops.
00:35:05This is risky.
00:35:07I don't know.
00:35:08In the beginning, I thought Victoria was like
00:35:10recycling the same design,
00:35:12but I have not seen this style from Victoria yet.
00:35:15I really like it, but I don't know if it's enough.
00:35:18It's just like, hmm.
00:35:23Or I destroy my pants, or I make it better.
00:35:26No, I have idea.
00:35:28I'm just trying to add more and more colors,
00:35:30and I have to do it because other way,
00:35:33my design is not at all about tie-dye.
00:35:37What I'm doing.
00:35:38I'm doing it.
00:35:46What the heck?
00:35:48Hi, guys.
00:35:49Christian!
00:35:50Morning, Lord.
00:35:51Good morning.
00:35:53Still working.
00:35:54Oh my God.
00:35:55You're awake?
00:35:56Barely.
00:35:56Who's tired?
00:35:58Everyone.
00:35:58Yeah.
00:35:59Well, it's runway day.
00:36:00You made it.
00:36:01Mm-hmm.
00:36:02You guys have two and a half hours before the show.
00:36:04And designers, time is of the essence because.
00:36:09Oh, no.
00:36:11Please.
00:36:11This is a flesh sale challenge.
00:36:13Oh.
00:36:14Oh, nice.
00:36:15Tie-dye is meant for the people,
00:36:17and people are going to get a chance to buy your clothes.
00:36:20Yay.
00:36:20See?
00:36:21America.
00:36:23All right, guys.
00:36:24You ready for a model?
00:36:25Yes.
00:36:26Here they come.
00:36:29Good morning.
00:36:30Hi, my love.
00:36:32No.
00:36:33I'm tired as .
00:36:35Let's just try this bad boy on.
00:36:37And then this one goes over all the head here.
00:36:40So these, I think, are going to cross over
00:36:42a little bit militant.
00:36:44Ooh.
00:36:45It's a little ice-skatery.
00:36:48Um.
00:36:51I don't see that.
00:36:53I think once you see with the sneakers and side dye,
00:36:57the hair.
00:36:58We'll see how it goes.
00:37:00Still a little bit wet, but I'll dry it.
00:37:02You're going to work so hard on these pants.
00:37:04They've seen 10 times, but you have no top.
00:37:06They have not seen these pants 10 times.
00:37:08This is the first time I've ever made these pants.
00:37:10Oh, really?
00:37:10Yeah.
00:37:11Well, they look the same.
00:37:14But you know what doesn't look the same?
00:37:16This non-existent top.
00:37:18We're right on schedule.
00:37:20You're right on schedule?
00:37:21Are you?
00:37:21You got no top.
00:37:22All right.
00:37:23I'm just saying.
00:37:24OK.
00:37:24This is good enough.
00:37:26Final accoutrement.
00:37:28I really don't want to push a political message
00:37:30with this look.
00:37:31Snatch that waist, girl.
00:37:33So judges are going to have no excuse
00:37:35but to love this outfit.
00:37:37You're perfection, girl.
00:37:38OK.
00:37:39The sleeves are cool.
00:37:42Did you sleep?
00:37:42No.
00:37:43I tie-dyed and it turned black.
00:37:45And I had a nervous breakdown.
00:37:47Really?
00:37:47And then it dried and turned green.
00:37:51Who knew?
00:37:51Yay.
00:37:52Who knew?
00:37:52The miracles have died.
00:37:54Miracles.
00:37:55I think you need to figure out this front.
00:37:57This front?
00:37:58Come look.
00:37:59OK.
00:37:59Look, what, what, what?
00:38:01I'll see what you're saying.
00:38:01Should it be the same length or?
00:38:03Yeah, I can take this off.
00:38:06Ooh.
00:38:07OK, turn.
00:38:09Hmm.
00:38:09I don't know.
00:38:11What if they were like top stitched or something?
00:38:14Yeah.
00:38:15Could you like stitch around them?
00:38:16Oh, you're saying, oh, actually, I probably.
00:38:18That could be cool.
00:38:19I don't know.
00:38:20I just think it needs something.
00:38:21It does.
00:38:22It's good to be like clean, but you don't want to be boring.
00:38:27Right, right.
00:38:28This garment is not what I envisioned.
00:38:31It just looks a bit too simple.
00:38:36Nancy, you have got to make a glouse.
00:38:39You already know what you're going to do with those.
00:38:41I have to get them done, though.
00:38:44So I'm starting to finally understand why I relate to
00:38:48Christian, because my father has the same
00:38:51sarcasm.
00:38:52You have pieces of nothing.
00:38:55You have no top.
00:38:56I have a top.
00:38:57I think my entire life, my father has been preparing me
00:39:01for this moment to deal with Christian Siriano.
00:39:04Oh, I'm not going to make it to the end.
00:39:07When I saw Nancy's pants, I'm like, again?
00:39:09What the , are you doing the best again?
00:39:11Maybe that's all she got.
00:39:12Well, she doesn't have a top.
00:39:13It's in pieces.
00:39:15We're just going to drape this on you.
00:39:19Beautiful like that.
00:39:21All right, guys.
00:39:21When you're ready, take your models to the TRESemme hair
00:39:23salon and the Maybelline makeup studio, OK?
00:39:26All right.
00:39:26Let's go get your hair and makeup,
00:39:27and then I'll get these changes made.
00:39:34So you're going to go straight down.
00:39:36With a little bit of a, like, face framing wave.
00:39:39OK, yeah.
00:39:40Because, like, well, the 60s, this is the original tie dye,
00:39:43and that's how I wore my hair.
00:39:44Yeah.
00:39:45You're going to relive my life.
00:39:48So now I'm going to use the TRESemme dry shampoo,
00:39:51and I like to spray it right at the roots
00:39:52so we get that kind of 60s lift.
00:39:55You look gorgeous.
00:39:58Beachy, really cute wave, and so you want her hair
00:40:00to feel playful like that.
00:40:02Yeah, yeah.
00:40:02I'm going to use the TRESemme micro-mist and boost
00:40:05so we can build, like, some volume here.
00:40:07Yes.
00:40:08Yay.
00:40:09All right, designers.
00:40:10Five minutes, and that's it.
00:40:12Here we go.
00:40:15OK.
00:40:19So fabulous.
00:40:20Wrap it up.
00:40:22Yes.
00:40:23All right, guys, that's it.
00:40:24That's time.
00:40:25All-nighters, let's go.
00:40:26Come on.
00:40:27We're going to head to the runway.
00:40:28Come on, Britt.
00:40:29OK.
00:40:29She looks expensive.
00:40:31All right, guys.
00:40:32Last look.
00:40:3210 minutes.
00:40:33All right, Nora.
00:40:34Get this tacked on there.
00:40:36It's crazy.
00:40:37What is crazy?
00:40:38It's not so crazy.
00:40:39I may release a bug.
00:40:41Should I leave it hanging open?
00:40:43Hmm, interesting.
00:40:44What's going on back here?
00:40:46I'm actually hand-sewing and tacking it onto severance.
00:40:50I know it's not my best work.
00:40:51Unfortunately, I've run out of time.
00:40:53I'm scared.
00:40:54The top is coming all messed up.
00:40:57I need this to say.
00:40:58I'm dead.
00:41:01Coming up.
00:41:02I love tie-dye, but there was a couple of ties that died.
00:41:06I don't know.
00:41:07It is a mess.
00:41:08I am sorry.
00:41:15Yes.
00:41:17Well, hello.
00:41:18Hi.
00:41:19Welcome back to the runway.
00:41:21I heard you guys didn't sleep much.
00:41:23No.
00:41:24No.
00:41:24Well, whether you're tie-dying for the runway or the real world,
00:41:28some things never change.
00:41:30One day you're in, and the next day you're out.
00:41:35Please say hello to your judges.
00:41:38Editor-in-Chief of Elle Magazine, Nina Garcia.
00:41:40Hi, guys.
00:41:42Journalist, Elaine Welteroff.
00:41:43Hi, designers.
00:41:45Fashion designer, Brandon Maxwell.
00:41:47Hey.
00:41:47And our guest judge, multi-Emmy-nominated actress,
00:41:52comedian, and Project Runway super fan, Leslie Jones.
00:41:55Yay!
00:41:58All right, designers.
00:41:59Oh, I'm going to say it.
00:42:03We'll be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
00:42:05And there's no more immunity on the table,
00:42:08so stakes are high.
00:42:11Let's start the show.
00:42:15It's already hot.
00:42:16Oh.
00:42:17Oh, that's starting.
00:42:20Oh, my God.
00:42:21Oh, my God.
00:42:33That's pretty.
00:42:35The garment is flowing exactly how I want it to.
00:42:39The organza adds a dimension.
00:42:41The pants are moving.
00:42:43And the tie-dye effect is just modern,
00:42:47and unique.
00:42:49I know it's rushed, but I think I've nailed it.
00:42:52I do like me a nice little flowy pant.
00:42:55They call it capizo.
00:42:56What do they call it?
00:42:57Palazzo.
00:42:57Palazzo.
00:42:58Yeah, that's what they call it.
00:42:59My look looks like a million bucks.
00:43:06Oh.
00:43:07My look looks like a million bucks.
00:43:09Dijin could wear this anywhere, and people would be stopping her and asking her who designed
00:43:16it.
00:43:17The techniques are super elegant, and it's very my style.
00:43:19Twirl it.
00:43:20Twirl it.
00:43:21Twirl it.
00:43:22Twirl it.
00:43:23Because that deserves to be twirled.
00:43:24I've hit a home run in this look.
00:43:25Congrats.
00:43:27You know what you're doing.
00:43:29I understand very well that design is not the most amazing.
00:43:36The biggest issue with my design is the tie-dye blouse.
00:43:37Is that supposed to be a cape?
00:43:38No.
00:43:39It's not even ugly.
00:43:40It just looks weird.
00:43:41Something is wrong.
00:43:55Work that Grace Jones does.
00:44:09that Grace Jones harped.
00:44:13Superhero!
00:44:15My design looks like I worked drunk, maybe.
00:44:30You love these sneakers?
00:44:36I'm looking at you in
00:44:37and how stunning she looks in the garment.
00:44:40The skirt and the whole dress together just looks amazing.
00:44:47That's a switchable fanny pack right there.
00:44:49I'm glad I got the blue and the green,
00:44:51the exact shade that I wanted.
00:44:53I'm pretty proud of myself.
00:45:07I hope the judges are able to see my usage of the tie-dye.
00:45:12It looks like a dress on fire with the orange, the yellow, the red.
00:45:17But I'm just worried that it's not really enough.
00:45:22Mm-hmm.
00:45:25I kind of like that.
00:45:37I definitely think this is my comeback look because I was able to use color and use a technique
00:45:47that I learned.
00:45:48I love the silhouette.
00:45:49I have my signature straps.
00:45:51I'm very happy with the redemption garment that I've been able to make.
00:45:58Oh, I have a feeling that I'm going to love this one.
00:46:04Yes.
00:46:05Yeah.
00:46:06That's right.
00:46:07Yes.
00:46:08Yeah.
00:46:09That's right.
00:46:10Girl, take that dress off.
00:46:11That's mine.
00:46:12This is the first challenge that I feel really confident in having a top look.
00:46:26I don't appreciate you wrinkling my dress.
00:46:29I'm just so happy.
00:46:31This has been an incredibly difficult journey and I finally feel confident in who I am as
00:46:36a designer.
00:46:37When I die and come back, I'm coming back as that dress.
00:46:39And I want you to wear me just like you wearing that dress.
00:46:44That's daughter.
00:46:46Oh, my God.
00:46:57You guys were incredible.
00:46:58I love tie-dye, but there was a couple of ties that died.
00:47:02All right.
00:47:04So, only one of you can be the winner of this challenge and one of you will be out.
00:47:10We've scored your designs.
00:47:19Brittany and Marquise, you are safe.
00:47:26You can head to the lounge.
00:47:28Thank you guys.
00:47:29Everybody else, please join us on the runway.
00:47:34Baby.
00:47:35Baby.
00:47:36All right, designers.
00:47:39Let's get your models out here.
00:47:41The five of you represent the highest and the lowest scores.
00:47:48One of you will be the winner of this challenge and one of you will be out.
00:47:52Sergio, will you tell us about your tie-dye look?
00:47:59I actually used ombre in the little panels and then I did a fan technique to get this kind
00:48:05of movement in it.
00:48:06So, I really wanted to carry it throughout, just this feeling of tie-dye.
00:48:10But when you come up to it, you can really see all the intricacies of the different details
00:48:15that are going on.
00:48:16I would have never thought this was tie-dye.
00:48:18I would have thought this was a material that you picked that moved.
00:48:21It's beautiful.
00:48:23What was the technique that you employed to achieve this kind of design?
00:48:26So, I actually had 12 panels of ombre.
00:48:29Ombre is where you start with a solid and you go down into a gradient.
00:48:34With this technique, I knew I could balance this proportion out with my ombre.
00:48:39I can see Meghan Markle in this.
00:48:41I could see Michelle Obama in this.
00:48:43Oh my God, yes.
00:48:44This is stately.
00:48:45This is elevated.
00:48:46Well done.
00:48:48This, I think, is a refreshing, smart take on tie-dye.
00:48:50One of the key words that we looked for here was chic.
00:48:53It maybe nails that directive the most.
00:48:56Thank you, Brandon.
00:48:57The fact that you did that combination of the ombre and the tie-dye.
00:49:01Can you open up your skirt, Thijan?
00:49:03I would love to see that.
00:49:04Oh, that's cool.
00:49:05That's like a lemon.
00:49:06It looks like a lemon wedge.
00:49:07Yes, girl.
00:49:08I think making the 12 go-days around the skirt must have been a hellish job, but that is
00:49:17remarkable.
00:49:18Just the entire effect really worked.
00:49:21Thank you, Sergio.
00:49:22All right.
00:49:23Jeffrey, please tell us about your tie-dye look.
00:49:25This was intense for me.
00:49:28Um, so I really tried to just pare down my silhouette.
00:49:31I wanted to come up with something mildly ARMY-inspired.
00:49:35I honestly had a really rough time with this.
00:49:38How did you do, like, make the little circle?
00:49:41Did you use a rubber band?
00:49:42It's about, uh, zip ties.
00:49:44So, you know, you kind of just stack them all down the fabric.
00:49:47So first I dyed it all ochre color to get the rings to be ochre, and then dyed it the dark green.
00:49:52A darker color palette's harder to hit with dyeing, and it was a challenge, and I'm happy with it.
00:49:58I literally wrote, that's my dress.
00:50:00Aw.
00:50:01When she was in the silhouette, I was like, oh, my dress is about to be shown.
00:50:04It is really, it's a beautiful dress.
00:50:07Yeah, it is.
00:50:08I love the orange that you added to it.
00:50:11I love my one leg out, because I think I have the best legs in America.
00:50:14And that dress is a tall glass of sexy Pam Grier.
00:50:21If you don't win, you win with me.
00:50:24The simplicity of the silhouette, it is really so flattering.
00:50:29That sleeve makes me crazy.
00:50:32I love that you're kind of doing these more refined, elevated silhouettes.
00:50:36There's something so effortless about this is why it's so chic.
00:50:41And I can see so many different women wearing that dress.
00:50:43It's beautifully finished.
00:50:44I think there's a real confidence brewing and a strength.
00:50:47I'm really happy to see that.
00:50:49You should be so proud.
00:50:50Thank you so much.
00:50:51Thank you so much, Jeffrey.
00:50:52Nancy.
00:50:53Hi.
00:50:54Will you tell us about your tie-dye?
00:50:56I'm a child of the 60s, so I wanted to try and really update and have something more chic
00:51:03and elevated with the process and the color choices.
00:51:06Is it one dress or two pieces?
00:51:08Two pieces.
00:51:09Can we get it closer to just take a quick look at it?
00:51:11Sure.
00:51:12I think the hair tie is distracting.
00:51:16Can we see it without it?
00:51:18See, I like it better without all that flowing off the back.
00:51:22That makes it a completely different outfit.
00:51:24You look beautiful.
00:51:25Yeah, you look stunning.
00:51:26This morning, Nancy didn't even have a top.
00:51:28She just, like, draped the top.
00:51:31This is so funny.
00:51:33Nancy's in the bottom.
00:51:34I wrote down when it first came out, cute but basic.
00:51:37But when you took the headband off, like, now I could change my score.
00:51:41Do that.
00:51:42Because I gave you a basic-ass score.
00:51:43Please.
00:51:44I like that.
00:51:45It's beautiful.
00:51:46Thank you very much.
00:51:47Nancy.
00:51:48The tie-dye technique is impressive.
00:51:51And there's something very balanced and controlled with your tie-dye that I don't see with any other tie-dye up here.
00:52:00But I wish you could have continued with something simpler on the top half.
00:52:06That could have made everything kind of shine.
00:52:09Okay.
00:52:10This is really modern.
00:52:12This is elegant.
00:52:13I see that pant shape.
00:52:15I knew it was yours.
00:52:16But you reinvented it for us.
00:52:18There was something about the movement that was really romantic and poetic.
00:52:21I'm a fan of this.
00:52:23Well, I'm wrong.
00:52:25Victoria, will you please tell us about your tie-dye look?
00:52:29Uh, I'm not crazy at all about tie-dye.
00:52:32It's not an excuse.
00:52:34I don't like this, I'll be honest.
00:52:37My initial idea was different.
00:52:39I wanted to make a huge blouse with a lot of flounces and to not be so much color.
00:52:44It looked like maybe Didi was holding a baby who had an accident, then she threw up.
00:52:50It is so not you to me.
00:52:52I thought you made Marquis's.
00:52:54Marquis's dress is not my style.
00:52:56But Marquis's safe.
00:53:00I'm trying to understand something.
00:53:02Me too.
00:53:03The pants are shorts with jean leggings underneath?
00:53:07No, no.
00:53:08The pants and shorts and they are stitched together here on the waist.
00:53:11Didi, will you turn around?
00:53:12That was a denim diaper.
00:53:15I don't know.
00:53:16It is a mess, Victoria.
00:53:17I am sorry.
00:53:23That is a denim diaper.
00:53:25I don't know.
00:53:26It is a mess, Victoria.
00:53:28I am sorry.
00:53:30What happens if we take off the flounce?
00:53:33Can I see what that looks like?
00:53:35Yeah.
00:53:36All right.
00:53:37I think that I understand where you were going with the design of the pants.
00:53:48I don't think it succeeded, but I think that you at least went there with the fashion.
00:53:54You at least took a risk design-wise.
00:53:56I agree, but I think the tie-dye is sloppy.
00:54:00I agree.
00:54:01Dalvin, get ready.
00:54:02We're coming for you.
00:54:04I know.
00:54:05Will you tell us about your tie-dye look?
00:54:07I wanted to go with a more simple silhouette and then focus on the print and the placement
00:54:11of that.
00:54:12I had other details on it, but I pulled back.
00:54:17I really want to like, I feel like the tie-dye is done very well, but I hate those colors together.
00:54:22Something about it makes it like a very cheap church dress.
00:54:27It was all the bad things about tie-dye that we didn't want to see.
00:54:31Why did you go these colors?
00:54:33I'm trying more to embrace colors and focusing on a more clean garment so that the print can shine more.
00:54:40I did have to completely start over from scratch because I started with cotton twill.
00:54:44It didn't take to the dye.
00:54:46I actually didn't have as much of a problem with the tie-dye itself as I did with the silhouette.
00:54:58What was the initial vision or design for what you were going to make?
00:55:01It started off as a coat dress, but after editing, it just basically is a dress.
00:55:05This is dated, and it's not the first time that word has come up.
00:55:10When looking at one of your garments, I thought it was very dynasty.
00:55:13From the shoulder pad to the color story.
00:55:16It looks a little dated.
00:55:18It's a mess today, my friend.
00:55:20You didn't have enough of a grand idea to carry this out.
00:55:26When in doubt, turn up the dial and just go, Max.
00:55:30So I think the interesting thing when we're looking both at you and Victoria, you guys both got tripped up on the tie-dye part of it.
00:55:38And then there was not a lot of time left for the look, you know?
00:55:43Now is the time where we really need everyone to level up and show us why they deserve to go to the final runway.
00:55:50Thank you, designers.
00:55:52We can all leave the runway.
00:55:53And we'll call you back when we're ready.
00:55:56All right, guys, we have two big decisions to make, but let's start with the positives.
00:56:09Let's decide who we think could win this.
00:56:11What about Nancy, guys?
00:56:13Out of all the designers, she controlled the tie-dye technique the most.
00:56:18I thought the pant was really, really interesting.
00:56:20I think today she nailed her staple piece, so that was nice to see.
00:56:25But it was boring to me.
00:56:26It was something I've seen before.
00:56:27Agreed.
00:56:28I don't think her design stands up to what Jeffrey or Sergio put down the runway.
00:56:32So pretty.
00:56:33Sergio?
00:56:34I love the silhouette.
00:56:35I thought he put a lot of work into it.
00:56:38I thought it was beautiful.
00:56:39Sergio's is actually a very difficult dress construction-wise.
00:56:43I think it was smart to pick that 50 silhouette.
00:56:46It definitely felt elevated.
00:56:48It really is quite charming, especially when she pulled it out.
00:56:51When she pulled it out, it looked like a pretty fan.
00:56:54I really gave it a high mark, but there is something about Jeffrey's look that just draws
00:56:59you in and makes you want to look at it and really appreciate it.
00:57:02These understanding how to be eccentric and really show-stopping, but in a way that's tasteful.
00:57:08There was a versatility to the dress that really made all of us feel like we could all wear it.
00:57:15Honestly, I've never seen her look that good, Jeffrey.
00:57:19Yeah.
00:57:20So we need to talk about Delvin and Victoria's looks.
00:57:22Do we have to?
00:57:23Because, unfortunately, they are a hot mess and somebody is going to have to go home.
00:57:29Oh, God.
00:57:30Let's start by talking about Delvin's look.
00:57:32Really, the issue here is that it was nothing.
00:57:35It was a fine, nothing dress.
00:57:36Right.
00:57:37And I think that what is happening with Delvin a lot is that he wants to really prove that
00:57:41he's a great craftsman.
00:57:43And when you get so hung up on doing that, you forget to think about what you're showing,
00:57:48what the look is.
00:57:49But I don't even think this particular dress was well tailored.
00:57:53The huge brown buttons that were opening up and pulling.
00:57:56Those buttons made me go, Delvin.
00:57:59Yes.
00:58:00That belongs on a brown coat with a dog in it.
00:58:03You know the dog, the inspector dog with the coat?
00:58:06That's where those buttons belong.
00:58:07He needed to turn up the volume on the drama, and he didn't, and he missed his moment.
00:58:13He was too safe.
00:58:14Yeah.
00:58:15And you've got to get to the edge where you're scared.
00:58:18I'm going to try to make you feel better, but I know exactly how you feel.
00:58:21It is what it is.
00:58:23I don't understand what Delvin nor Victoria designed today.
00:58:28It looked like a lava lamp exploded all over her shirt and her pants.
00:58:35I wrote one big comment.
00:58:37Why?
00:58:38I agree with you, Elaine.
00:58:39Why?
00:58:40Okay, so I watched the show, and I know exactly how she got there.
00:58:43She looked at the jeans, and she was like, oh, my God, this is not going to be enough.
00:58:46They're going to say something, so let me add buttons and blotch this.
00:58:50Yeah, if I make it the same color as the shirt.
00:58:52Yeah, she panicked.
00:58:53It was a big risk, but at least there is an idea there.
00:58:56But at this level, at this stage, we really need to narrow down who do we want to see a full collection from.
00:59:03She's the most crazy challenge.
00:59:05Oh.
00:59:07So we know who's going to go home?
00:59:09Oh, yeah.
00:59:10She's got it down.
00:59:12I just want nobody to go home.
00:59:17No.
00:59:18Either one of you.
00:59:19Ugh.
00:59:20Nancy.
00:59:21Jeffrey.
00:59:22And Sergio.
00:59:35Each of you proved that tie-dye can be taken to the next level and created beautiful, elegant runway looks.
00:59:47Nancy.
00:59:48You are in.
00:59:50You can leave the runway.
00:59:52Thank you so much.
00:59:54Jeffrey.
00:59:55And Sergio.
00:59:56One of you will be the winner of this challenge.
01:00:01Jeffrey.
01:00:02Congratulations.
01:00:03You are the winner.
01:00:04And your look will be sold on BravoTV.com.
01:00:05Yay!
01:00:06Thank you so much.
01:00:07Jeffrey, your tie-dye dress was perfection.
01:00:10I love it.
01:00:11I've worn it for myself.
01:00:12And it's going to look beautiful on all types of women.
01:00:14Aw.
01:00:15Thank you so much as a designer for doing that.
01:00:16And bravo.
01:00:17Thank you so much for the support.
01:00:18Thank you, guys.
01:00:19Jeffrey, how do you feel?
01:00:20Incredible.
01:00:21But, you know, bittersweet.
01:00:22I feel like...
01:00:23I feel like...
01:00:24I feel like...
01:00:25Somebody really talented and a dear friend is about to go home.
01:00:28So...
01:00:29It's really bittersweet.
01:00:30Ooh.
01:00:31Accept it.
01:00:32Enjoy it.
01:00:33Thank you so much.
01:00:34Thank you so much.
01:00:35Thank you so much for the support.
01:00:36Thank you, guys.
01:00:37Jeffrey.
01:00:38How do you feel?
01:00:39Incredible.
01:00:40But, you know, bittersweet.
01:00:41I feel like...
01:00:42Somebody really talented and a dear friend about to go home.
01:00:46So...
01:00:47It's really bittersweet.
01:00:50Ooh.
01:00:52Accept it.
01:00:53Enjoy it.
01:00:54Enjoy it.
01:00:55Just stop and say, I won this challenge.
01:00:59Oh.
01:01:00I appreciate it.
01:01:01It means the world to me.
01:01:02I think everybody can agree this was the hardest challenge yet.
01:01:05By far.
01:01:06So stop it.
01:01:08You know?
01:01:09Congratulations, Sergio.
01:01:11You are also in.
01:01:13You can both leave the runway.
01:01:15This moment has definitely made all of the hours of no sleep worth it.
01:01:20I won.
01:01:21You won?
01:01:22Yeah.
01:01:23I feel like I've been getting better every challenge.
01:01:25This is my second win.
01:01:26I'm starting to feel recognized by the judges.
01:01:29Oh, my God.
01:01:30Oh, my God.
01:01:31I'm so close.
01:01:32I can taste it at this point.
01:01:34Oh, .
01:01:35Oh, .
01:01:40Delvin, and Victoria, you both made numerous mistakes in this challenge, and one of you will
01:01:47be out.
01:01:49Delvin, your tie-dye look was neither elevated or chic.
01:01:55And worst of all, it had no direction.
01:01:58Victoria, we were totally baffled by your design, and your tie-dye technique was a mess.
01:02:05Delvin, I'm sorry.
01:02:16You are out.
01:02:17Victoria, you can leave the runway.
01:02:22Victoria, you can leave the runway.
01:02:35Are you safe?
01:02:37Delvin, what it came down to today, ultimately, was ideas.
01:02:50And we felt that your look of the two lacked ideas.
01:02:54You have shown us beautiful craftsmanship.
01:02:57We will see you in those Paris Ateliers that you have dreamed of.
01:03:03I'm glad that you started here.
01:03:05I can't even describe how much I value the critiques that I've received from you all.
01:03:10And most of all, I've learned to not let fear hold me back.
01:03:14And thank you for bringing elegance to this runway.
01:03:17It's been an honor.
01:03:18Thank you so much for having me.
01:03:21Thank you for being here.
01:03:24I chose not to take a risk with this garment because I was afraid of it not being liked or accepted by the judges.
01:03:34And I am gone.
01:03:37I do regret playing it safe.
01:03:43This garment is not a reflection of me or my design skills.
01:03:48Hello, everyone.
01:03:49Howdy.
01:03:50It just gets harder, and you never know.
01:03:52But Delvin, for me, I have to say I think you are one of the most brilliant tailors we have ever had.
01:03:59Your work is so beautiful.
01:04:00And I know you have a lot of dreams.
01:04:01And I really do think every single one of them is going to come true.
01:04:05I'm going to send you the workroom and clean up your space, okay?
01:04:07Yes, sir.
01:04:08Good luck with everything, all right?
01:04:13All right.
01:04:14My biggest challenge was having the confidence behind my designs, but giving up is not in my blood.
01:04:20So I'll just continue growing.
01:04:22You will see me in Paris one day.
01:04:24Next on Project Runway.
01:04:25Yes.
01:04:26Please welcome these Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
01:04:27Your challenge is to make each of them their ideal victory dress.
01:04:29I really like this fabric.
01:04:30This one's okay.
01:04:31You're all going to have a red gown.
01:04:32So many red dresses.
01:04:33Marquise, I'm going to give you the gold medal because that was cute.
01:04:34Oh, my God.
01:04:35This dress went from perfect to absolute crap in three seconds.
01:05:03I think you could have done more to push the envelope.
01:05:06This dress is a very cliche dress.
01:05:09I thought it was perfect.
01:05:33a pretty cute color.
01:05:48I think you can dream probably before you.
