00:00...of the previous three races, but Deegan got Moto1 earlier.
00:03Now, Moto2's underway.
00:08And Deegan, able to get the drop on Shimoda and the rest.
00:13And he's going to hole-shot Moto2.
00:16Bial's right there in second.
00:18Yeah, better star by Tom Bial, Joe Shimoda.
00:21Oh!
00:21It was flying, which one of the monster star Yamaha riders was that?
00:24I think that might have been Moseman.
00:26Yes, it was.
00:27Goes from third to probably 40th.
00:31I hope he's okay.
00:32Yeah, I don't know if he got hit by the handlebar, but, hey, Deegan,
00:35this is exactly where you want to be in front.
00:37Joe Shimoda.
00:37Joe's going to have to make short work if he's going to have to go out there to number one,
00:41especially after that first Moto.
00:43But, yeah, that was Moseman that went down.
00:45Yeah, only rider on that team that runs the neck brace.
00:47That was Moseman, and you've got Harrop with a good start.
00:50And Hamaker, here is the battle right now.
00:53And it is Shimoda taking it from Bial.
00:55Yeah, nice move by Joe.
00:57He knew those lines were going to play out, and Tom didn't shut him off.
00:59He was going to be able to go up the inside.
01:01So, for him, he's got to go to work.
01:04You saw how good Hayden's lines were in that first Moto.
01:06So, Joe probably went back, watched some video, talked to Lars, and said he got to switch it up.
01:10Now he's going to have to have the pace because he had it in that first Moto.
01:15Yeah, although Deegan caught him, you thought that Shimoda had something.
01:17It was just lines.
01:18Well, Joe was the fastest.
01:20He was the only one in a 204.
01:21Hayden was a 205.
01:22Yeah, so he has the pace, but it worked out.
01:24Hayden adapted better.
01:26Joe's giving him a run here on lap one.
01:29As they head to the highest speed section of the track coming up here.
01:32Yeah, you can tell Joe he wants some action right now.
01:38I think Hayden's probably understanding Joe's there.
01:41Don't worry too much.
01:43Just don't make a mistake here early in the Moto.
01:47Got more shadows in that section.
01:50And Vial going to run with him here as well on lap one.
01:53Shimoda throwing everything at Deegan.
01:57Yeah, I think Hayden's being really patient.
02:00Right now, trying not to do it.
02:01He's going to hit this jump.
02:02Send it.
02:04Katie, what do you see?
02:05Yeah, well, actually, just talking to Ben Griffith, Joe Shimoda's mechanic, I said,
02:09how did he feel after that first Moto?
02:11He said, totally fine.
02:12He liked the bike.
02:13He said, the problem was is Joe didn't adapt to the track fast enough, well enough,
02:18where Hayden was faster and smarter in Moto number one.
02:21And if that's the way Hayden was in Moto number one, Joe has his work cut out for him.
02:25Yeah, but to Joe's, you know, to help Joe out, he wouldn't know, you know.
02:29So he's out front, Hayden had to adapt because he was getting pulled away.
02:32So it'd be hard for Joe to know where Hayden would be better or change his lines.
02:36Because you're like, I'm pulling away from this guy.
02:39But good to see Joe, as I mentioned, his attitude would be the right person to come back out here
02:43and fight Hayden, not be too demoralized after that, and you can see it.
02:48Just saw Moseman come through.
02:49He's back on the bike after that early crash.
02:51You've got Villal, Harrop, DeFrancisco has moved around Hamaker to fifth
02:55as Shimoda continues to zero in on Deegan.
03:00It almost seems the way this track is playing out.
03:01Just like the 450, it might be better to be in second right now compared to leading it.
03:07It seems like the guy in second can follow the guy's lines in front of him
03:10and see where it works out at and then try to attack.
03:14Because Joe's staying there.
03:15His lines are better so far right now.
03:21Good fight for the lead early here at Moto2.
03:25And again, the points are so critical.
03:27Deegan is right on the edge of being in position to wrap the title up early next week at Unadilla.
03:32Unadilla, the 51-point lead that he has right now, if it ends like this,
03:37if his moto ends like this, that'd be enough to wrap it up
03:40if he had a lead like that at the end of next weekend.
03:44Shimoda could cross him back here, though.
03:47Yeah, Joe, nice shot from the drone.
03:49Joe has some really good lines, especially in his last section.
03:53Track's definitely drawn out more, so...
03:56Uh-oh.
03:57A bummer for Jalik.
03:59Jalik swole out of this one.
04:00Had some good motos going strong early in Moto1.
04:05Wasn't able to carry it to the end.
04:07Oh, that line did not work for Joe.
04:09Yeah, I think he was going to...
04:11Uh, I think he went outside to set up to hit that triple, but he missed it.
04:16Hayden sensed that he was.
04:18Joe went to the inside that last lap, and now look at the gap.
04:20How about that?
04:23Deegan ends up going inside, gaining.
04:24He was outside from the first lap, gaining.
04:27So it worked out for Deegan both times there.
04:28Yeah, and that's just smart about Hayden, being aware.
04:32You can hear the guy behind you, so just kind of knowing, okay, that guy closed in.
04:36I can hear his bike a lot louder in this section.
04:38I'm going to switch up my line.
04:40That's adapting.
04:41I don't know if that was a fast line, but it was definitely a lot smoother.
04:50He's had a couple of smooth ones.
04:52Yeah.
04:54Can he get Deegan back into sight?
04:56You see the Yamaha starting to get away.
04:58And Vial still lurking.
05:00Yeah, that one section really got Joe.
05:06Hayden got that gap, and this next lap is going to be very important for him.
05:11Yeah, is this that toe?
05:13He cannot lose this.
05:14Yeah, but it's been weird all year.
05:16Joe's been like the only rider that can lose that toe, but he just stays there.
05:20Like, Hayden knows he's going to be there.
05:22If he's just faster, he'll just eventually pull away.
05:24But Joe's not the type of rider that Hayden pulls away,
05:28then all of a sudden he starts running two, three seconds slower.
05:31He'll just continue that pace.
05:33Just might not have to be able to see where Hayden's better at.
05:36Might be tough for him.
05:39Yeah, so he doesn't get, kind of like you said, as we see Vial here in third,
05:43at the end of that first moto, Joe just doesn't get demoralized in the same way.
05:46Yeah, I just feel like with Joe, I mean, the first moto,
05:48he needed to be able to see Hayden's lines.
05:50But some riders need guys in front of them to get towed.
05:53You know, I always laugh at some guys, like, I want a better start.
05:56Well, you put them out front, they don't know what to do.
05:57They're better towing where Joe doesn't need that rabbit.
06:01Whatever his pace is and how comfortable, that's where he's going to go.
06:03So whether he has the pace to catch Hayden, that's going to be all up to him.
06:08But he's not going to just drop off three or four seconds
06:10because he doesn't see Hayden.
06:11He'll keep going as we're watching.
06:13Hey, it's March Banks with a, can I constify this as a decent start?
06:16He's sixth early.
06:18I don't know where he was on lap one, but certainly better than usual.
06:20And seventh, yes, he started in the top ten.
06:25Well done, Garrett.
06:26Let's see what he can do with it.
06:27Yeah, he probably don't know what to do with it right now.
06:29It's like normally in this position about ten minutes later.
06:33You see, the overall, if it ended like this, it would be Vial third,
06:36Shimoda second, and Deegan with the win.
06:39Harrop been riding so well this year on the triumph.
06:43And March Banks going to put some pressure on him, Katie.
06:46Yeah, and I was talking to him about why back at Washougal and he had that podium,
06:50why that was such a pivotal point of his career.
06:52And he said, it's so rewarding, but it's also so motivating and confidence building,
06:57especially with the things that have happened in his past and trying to find a ride
07:00and making sure he solidifies the deal.
07:02And just having those good small victories really helped put him on the map.
07:08He also said something that's very different.
07:09And, Stu, you can probably talk to this a bit more.
07:11He trains in California where it's really dry heat, and he said coming in after qualifying today,
07:17I talked to him, he just looked like a wet dog.
07:19And I was like, you good?
07:20You good, bro?
07:20And he was like, it is so hot.
07:23This humidity is killing me.
07:24And if you think about it, training, he's not used to that, right?
07:27He's used to the dry heat.
07:28How does that make an impact on someone like Garrett?
07:30Yeah, I mean, it does, but Garrett's one of the fitted riders out here.
07:34So, yeah, it might be hot to him, but I don't think that's something that he's going to pay too much.
07:38And, you know, Washougal, the way he's riding the motorcycle, the way he kind of rides,
07:42reminds me of Travis Preston back in the day on the 125.
07:45Those long legs, sometimes they just run these outsides, and they throw their legs out,
07:48and they carry a lot of momentum.
07:50And that Washougal, man, Garrett had such a good flow around that racetrack.
07:54It was just going on the outside, where here it's a little bit different.
07:57So I don't think he's feeling as comfortable today, even though he's, you know,
08:00trying to make his way up into four.
08:02But, yeah, it's going to be a long day.
08:04Our fifth, excuse me, got Ryder D in four.
08:07Yeah, what'd you say about outside lines?
08:09It's what he's working right here on Harrop.
08:11Yeah, the drive part to racetrack.
08:15Oh, it's going to be close.
08:18Oh, I thought one of them was going down.
08:21Just able to hold on to it is Harrop.
08:24Deegan, just showing you the leader there.
08:263.3 over Shimoda.
08:28We resume the battle.
08:29It's in Harrop and March Face.
08:30And, yeah, shout out to DeFrancisco.
08:32DeFrancisco outside top 15 in Moto 1.
08:37And now running fourth on that rock star, Gas Gas.
08:39Yeah, it just shows you what his start does.
08:41And he's going to have a hard time because he's lost the toe to Tom,
08:44so he can't see Tom.
08:46I think these two guys are probably starting closing up on him
08:48just because he can't see that pace.
08:51Garrett's going to go back out to Mikael right here.
08:52And March Banks talked to him yesterday.
08:57It appears he has re-signed.
08:59He's got a deal to be back on Kawasaki next year
09:02because there wasn't a lot of room over there.
09:04It wasn't that the performances were not good enough to deserve a ride,
09:07but they've got a lot of multi-year deals.
09:10Guys like McAdoo and Hamaker and Kitchen has re-signed.
09:14But I believe he will be back with his team next year.
09:17I haven't seen anything officially posted by the team,
09:19but it's the indicator that he gave me, and why not?
09:23This guy's been riding great all summer.
09:24Yeah, especially if he ends up third in this championship.
09:28Shows you how many talented guys is coming up.
09:31Oh, again!
09:33Almost had the pass made.
09:34And now his teammate Hamaker.
09:36Oh, look at this.
09:37No surprise.
09:37We've got four Kawasaki's in a row.
09:39This keeps happening this year.
09:41Flying information.
09:42March Banks, Hamaker, Kitchen, Drew Adams.
09:446, 7, 8, 9.
09:45Yeah, that's good to see.
09:48Yep.
09:49Not enough.
09:51Going to try again around the outsides.
09:55He's really working.
09:56He should have it up here.
09:57Kelsman really stingy.
09:59Now this line, he's going to end up going outside off.
10:02Maybe he's going to try to go in the middle.
10:03Watch this line from Garrett.
10:04He's going to come back, allow him to go down.
10:08Got it.
10:09Okay, so March Banks locks it down, and he is not done, JT.
10:23Just watching this battle here.
10:24We don't often get to reference basketball, but I was kind of thinking these would be the
10:28big men of their individual teams.
10:30March Banks and Harp.
10:31You've got Hamakers and Jordan Smith, your shooting guards over there.
10:34These are your two centers.
10:36Your power forwards, if you will, because they are large individuals to be riding 250s, which
10:41you could look at, hey, it's a really big disadvantage at the moment, but long term, I think when
10:45they move up to 450s, it's really going to work out for them.
10:47Yeah, large motocross terms, we're talking about maybe 6'1", 6'2", for these guys, and
10:52they're catching one of the little guys, which is Ryder D. Francisco.
10:56He'll be waiting and waiting and waiting for Ryder D. to turn the speed that we have seen
11:01in qualifying at a couple of races into results.
11:04He's got a shot at it here, but March Banks wants none of that.
11:07Yeah, I'm going to call March Banks a diesel shack out here.
11:10Chris Paul better watch out as he goes up the inside of him.
11:15And, oh, D. Francisco fights back.
11:17Yeah, I'm going around outside, excuse me, be around.
11:20Let's move it by Garrett.
11:21Yeah, you said outsides are working for him.
11:23Yeah, just throwing the anchor out.
11:25But it's good, I mean, he's really loose on the motorcycle.
11:28I talked about it at Washougal, just his riding style, you know, doesn't really have a lot
11:32of stop and go when he hits these bumps, it's almost like his body just gumby somewhat.
11:36It absorbs and it just keeps moving.
11:38And March Banks giving a lot of credit to Brock Tickle, former competitor out here who became
11:43as a riding coach and trainer midway through the Supercross campaign.
11:48And he has been a completely different man ever since.
11:51Riding so well as March Banks.
11:53D. Francisco has got all sorts of heat.
11:55It's going to be Harrop and now Kitchen.
11:57Yeah, I spoke to Levi yesterday and he said, man, I love this racetrack, but every time
12:03I come here, I have one good moto, one bad one.
12:05So that first moto, hopefully it was a bad one, have another good one here.
12:09I'm sure he wants to rebound.
12:11Tough going down early in that moto, but.
12:13And up front, three and a half second lead over Deegan.
12:18True to form, like you said, it's just every lap, another tenth or two.
12:21It's not huge chunks up front.
12:24Deegan pulling away.
12:25D. Francisco holding off Harrop.
12:27Katie, what do you got?
12:28And going back to Levi Kitchen, what Stu was talking about, I talked to him also before
12:31the moto and he said, I know I'm fit.
12:33I know what I've got with the bike itself.
12:36But he said, something's been kicking my butt.
12:38I don't know if it's allergies.
12:40I don't know what it is, but he's been feeling it a little, he's been feeling a little under
12:43the weather here.
12:44Not as an excuse.
12:45He says he knows he needs to pull it together, but he does, but he does feel a little something
12:50that's not right.
12:52Yeah, well, that would obviously have an impact.
12:54And so he fell in the first moto, but there was plenty of time and was not able to make
12:59much happen.
12:59Ended up 14th.
13:01Much better here.
13:02It's just tough.
13:02But, you know, when a guy like Levi, I mean, he came in with aspirations to win this title.
13:06So, you know, maybe not on a level where you talk about Eli Tomac.
13:09It's either I'm winning the title or I don't really care to really be out here.
13:12But Levi wants to be battling with Joe Schmoder to hate Deegan.
13:16So, I don't know how much these fifth places are willing to hit the ground and take that
13:20chance.
13:21And it's tough for him, but he's out here fighting.
13:25It's a great battle.
13:26Yeah, it is.
13:27And he's riding good.
13:32That was good right there.
13:33Yeah, he's starting to find the flow.
13:37I think these guys would be more used to this racetrack the way it is the second moto
13:40because it's dried out.
13:41This, to me, looks more like Iron Man years past.
13:44That first moto was really sticky.
13:45Battles continue here.
13:55Ryder DeFrancisco, Mikko Haram, and Levi Kitchen all in one piece of real estate at once.
14:01Three-rider fight.
14:02This is for fifth.
14:04Yeah, we're talking about big man's JT.
14:06I'm going to call Mikko, you know, McKimbo, Tombo.
14:08No, no, no, no, no, the way he's going.
14:11Nice move up here.
14:12He's not letting anybody up the inside.
14:15Rejected.
14:15Here comes around the outside.
14:18Kitchen.
14:20And that's what this 250 class is all about, man.
14:23It's just relentless.
14:25Guys so deep in the field, still charging hard.
14:28And Kitchen takes the measure of DeFrancisco.
14:31Yeah, that line right there allows him to close.
14:33And Miguel right here.
14:34So for him, good confidence for Levi.
14:39Shout out to the fly racing athletes.
14:41We're in the gear there.
14:42That includes DeFrancisco.
14:43Just got pushed to sixth.
14:45Parker Ross, another run hovering around that top ten on the Bar X Toyota Redlands.
14:50Yamaha 11th.
14:51His teammate Dylan Schwartz, 28th.
14:54I can almost bet you that Schwartz will be better than that by the end of the moto.
14:56He always charges hard at the end.
14:58Kitchen, not done.
15:02Going outside of him.
15:03Ooh.
15:04Yeah, he leaned it in there.
15:06He was trying to get that double.
15:08But you see how he's turning the bike down.
15:10He's starting to be a little bit more aggressive.
15:11Just a little bit of confidence to be able to make that pass.
15:13Yeah, that's a little more of what we're used to seeing from Kitchen.
15:17That's style.
15:17Hey, we're halfway through.
15:19A reminder.
15:20Monster Energy available now.
15:24And keep watching this battle, though.
15:27Haram versus Kitchen.
15:29Yeah, Garrett, he got away from these guys.
15:34I think those guys are starting to battle.
15:35They were really slowing each other down.
15:37Maybe they didn't open up.
15:39And Haram, fifth in points, as I mentioned, in moto one.
15:43And fifth in this race.
15:44He has been quite the pleasant surprise.
15:47Again, wasn't even supposed to race this championship for triumph.
15:49But what a great move they decided to make by putting him here for the summer.
15:54And now we're hearing some rumors that it might not be a one-and-done season.
15:58Back to the lead.
16:00Deegan.
16:00And, yeah, every lap put about two, three-tenths on Shimoda.
16:04That's it.
16:04But it's just enough.
16:06If you want to see more about Deegan and this team, you can get the inside look at Yamaha's
16:11factory-supported squads after every race.
16:14Go to at Yamaha Motor USA on YouTube.
16:16And that is their show, Beyond the Gate.
16:18Shows training during the week and what goes on on race day.
16:24Yeah, Hayden was able to open up the gap a little bit this last half of his lap.
16:29But Joe's been a little bit quicker than him.
16:31That gap's been staying pretty much the same.
16:34Tom Vial was actually the fastest guy on the track the last lap.
16:37But Joe's continue there.
16:39Now that gap goes down to 2.8.
16:41Hey, that's what you said.
16:42Joe wasn't going to give up.
16:44Joe never gave up.
16:45And he's there.
16:48Let's see if Hayden gets the word.
16:49Cross flags out now.
16:5113 plus 2 to go.
16:53There's the 30 of Shimoda.
16:55And Vial's hanging tough also.
16:57You see him lurking.
16:59Joe's digging.
16:59Yeah, no, he's digging.
17:00And he was the fastest guy over at 3 tenths, faster than Hayden.
17:04So Joe must have this part of the racetrack figured out before the finish line.
17:08Because that's where he's closing in on Hayden.
17:11Hayden might got the other part.
17:12We're going to see.
17:17Oh, I think this part Deegan has thrown it down and pulled back away.
17:21There is the 16 of Vial.
17:23Wow, it is wild how much closer they were just a few sections ago.
17:28Yeah, just certain parts.
17:30Like you said, Hayden's got this.
17:32But even with Tom Vial, like he can't see those guys.
17:34He knows they're there.
17:36But tough position.
17:37But coming back from the injury, this is what I thought we would see all year long from Tom.
17:41So it's been a tough motocross season.
17:42But good to see him back out here and give him some confidence to finish off these next two races before we move in playoffs.
17:51Yeah, it's been a relatively disappointing summer for Vial, the two-ton MX2 champion.
17:58But getting it together here today.
18:00And we brace for the second half of this moto.
18:02And just like that, Vial had him nearly in sight.
18:13Stretched it just a bit.
18:14Yeah, Tom's in that danger zone now.
18:18The next lap or so, he doesn't stay there or at least close in.
18:22He might lose the toe.
18:24But certain parts of the racetrack said it looked like it opened up.
18:27But then Joe closes in.
18:29And the same thing the lap before.
18:30So just whether it's a mistake or not, allowing these guys to make up Tom, Katie.
18:34Yeah, and it's good to have Tom Vial back on the bike.
18:37Of course, he was telling me that during his break, he actually went to Miami.
18:40The Beach Guy, he went to some concerts.
18:42He said it was really a lot of rest and relaxation.
18:45And he said he actually needed it.
18:46That helped him kind of revitalize himself to feel fresh to finish out the season.
18:51I said, how comfortable are you on the bike right now?
18:53He said, well, we've been back and forth on some settings.
18:55It's not feeling the greatest, but it's good enough to be up front.
18:58And we're definitely seeing a different Tom Vial than maybe we did here earlier in this season.
19:02Yeah, absolutely.
19:03I mean, during the break, I actually went to the beach myself.
19:06Okay.
19:06So not a beach person.
19:08So it seems like everybody went to the beach.
19:09But I don't feel like not doing what these guys are doing out here today.
19:14I saw some sand on some motocross tracks.
19:16That's about as close as I got during the break.
19:18Stretch run for everybody here.
19:20But this is a big improvement for Vial.
19:21Remember, this is his return from injury.
19:25Crashed at Millville.
19:27Missed Washougal.
19:28So a nice bounce back for the Frenchman.
19:30There are some rumors swirling that he might end up going back to MXGP next year.
19:36He'll certainly miss him if he does go back.
19:39But he made an impact in his three years here with two Supercross titles in 250 East.
19:45A little further back, Max Boland.
19:47This is just every darn moto.
19:48You'll find Boland right around that eighth place spot.
19:51Eighth of points coming into this race.
19:53And that is very impressive for that team that, again,
19:56they get bikes from Yamaha, but they don't have the full factory support.
19:59He's riding well, and he's caught Harrop.
20:01Yeah, no, he's caught.
20:01He's two seconds faster than his last lap.
20:05Kitchen got around Harrop as well.
20:07So Max almost ran in the back.
20:10I think he was trying to square him up so he could maybe do this to him.
20:14Oh, he almost did, James.
20:16He should have the inside.
20:17He just gets through this run.
20:18He'll have the pass made because this corner continues to turn.
20:22There you go.
20:22And Boland gets it done.
20:25That sixth could be the season best for him if he holds on.
20:28No, Harrop wants none of that.
20:30Yeah, Max did a good job slowing down, making Harrop have to think and switch his lines.
20:35Good job by Max.
20:37And we've told this story many times.
20:39Does not have the rear brake lever use with his foot like everyone else.
20:45Has to have a brake lever on the handlebars.
20:47Dating back to an injury from last year.
20:49Heard his hip.
20:50The nerve damage doesn't have full feeling in his foot.
20:53So he has definitely changed the game there and riding darn solid this summer.
20:59Yeah, especially today.
21:00I mean, the way he's riding, you would wonder if he don't need a brake.
21:04It's great.
21:07Yeah, it's kind of been the story all year.
21:11Hey, got some news here for you.
21:13We know the SMX playoffs are coming up in September.
21:16And I'm always happy to talk about saving people some money.
21:19So $10 off tickets if you buy them between now and the conclusion of Pro Motocross.
21:25That's two weeks from now at Bud's Creek.
21:26Just scan that QR code on the screen or go to supermotocross.com or type in the promo code.
21:35SMX3TV for the $10 off.
21:38And we'll give it on up to eight tickets.
21:40You can save up to $80 per event.
21:42Talking my language right there.
21:43Yeah, can you handle this for a second so I can get this QR code going?
21:47You're two QR codes.
21:48People have been asking me playoff tickets.
21:50I'm like, man, they're expensive.
21:51But thank you very much.
21:52I love it.
21:53Thank you, Jay, for this.
21:54Help your buddies.
21:55Absolutely.
21:56Save money, buddy.
21:57Yeah, it's only going to last for the next two weeks.
21:58So get it done now.
22:00Join us at North Carolina.
22:01St. Louis or Vegas.
22:04Bolin powering through up the second kitchen fifth.
22:10So let's see what Bolin can do here.
22:12Again, it would be the season best for him.
22:15That muck off FXR Club MX team.
22:18And they've been grinding down there.
22:20A lot of guys ride there.
22:21Not just the team members.
22:22That's where Jorge Prado was riding for a lot of the summer.
22:24And Lala Turner, who we just watched win the WMX overall.
22:29She rides with this group down there in South Carolina.
22:33Always elevating that facility.
22:35And it's a good story brewing.
22:38Well, just like that, Deegan has pulled back away from Shimoda.
22:43Largest league of the race right now, 5.3.
22:45Yeah, well, Joe must have made a mistake this last half of the lap
22:48because he actually was the fastest.
22:50He went three tenths faster than Deegan the last lap.
22:53So, ooh, that was close by Hayden.
22:59So I'm thinking, Joe, by pushing it,
23:01must have made a big mistake because he lost three seconds
23:03in the last half lap.
23:04And it might be costly for him.
23:07Nice line choice by Deegan there.
23:09Just finding they're not outside of the track markers,
23:13but he is finding those edges.
23:15Just a few less pumps to deal with.
23:18Now he's got to deal with a lot of traffic.
23:20There's Brent Duffy, the mechanic.
23:227.9.
23:23Yeah, I don't know if it's that big, but, hey, yeah, even Hayden.
23:27I don't think Hayden believed that.
23:28He had to look back himself.
23:30Like, what?
23:30Yeah, normally as a rider, you wouldn't look back out there.
23:33Mechanics tell you that when you just passed them.
23:35But he's like, hey, now you're talking about a nice line.
23:38That was a nice line by Hayden right there.
23:41Basically straightened that whole section up.
23:43You know, I talked to Brian, his dad, about that back at High Point.
23:47I really feel like line choice is really one of the areas where Hayden excels.
23:50And he's like, you know, I've tried to teach him as much as I could.
23:53But he's like, I think that, a lot of that, you either got it or you don't.
23:56Yeah.
23:56No, I would agree.
23:57I agree with Brian.
23:58And, like I said, that first moto, that was a nice little move right there.
24:02A little flat track.
24:03Yeah, you think about the riders who can adjust.
24:06You know, Jet Lawrence, you know, Hayden Deegan, they're figuring it out.
24:09That's why I was so impressed what he did that first moto because he wasn't faster.
24:13Joe had him cover.
24:14He adjusted.
24:15And it seems like the same thing has happened in this moto.
24:17He's figured out better lines.
24:18Joe was closing in.
24:20And he got it done, JT.
24:22Yeah, I 100% agree there, James.
24:23And it's like when the conventional lines go away, Hayden is able to kind of put the puzzle pieces together
24:29and figure out, okay, that line doesn't work anymore.
24:32How can I cut across there?
24:33How can I make this a straight line across so I don't have to slow down?
24:37He is so efficient when the main lines start to go away.
24:40And it's going to continue to serve him well as he moves to the 450 next season.
24:44Well, and, JT, one step further, you know, of course, like, he's doing what he's doing here in the 250 class.
24:48But a lot of that's going to translate to the 450.
24:50And, you know, I think that's one thing that that team's excited about.
24:55But before they get to that 450, I asked Brent Duffy, why is that announcement important right now for Hayden Deegan?
25:01Why is this kind of a game changer?
25:03And he said, well, because he has six more motos to stamp his legacy in the 250 motocross.
25:08And I'm challenging him this weekend to say, how do you want to leave your legacy in the 250 class?
25:13What do you want to do?
25:14What else can you get out of this 250 bike?
25:16So maybe with that little extra challenge by the team and his mechanic, that's also letting him be the rider he's being on the track right now.
25:24Yeah, and I agree.
25:25And just looking at his lines, you know, the first moto, Joe had the half, beginning of half of the race, he had it figured out.
25:33Hayden needed to figure it out.
25:34So it's easy to have to switch lines when you're getting pulled away from.
25:36But this moto, Hayden's out front.
25:39So for him to be able to switch in mid-moto and be like, okay, Joe's there, I got to change it up because I'm not getting away, is more impressive to me.
25:47Because a lot of guys, just like Joe, the difference is Hayden, he's still adapting even though he's leading.
25:53And that's hard to do.
25:54You're like, I'm leading the race.
25:55How much better can you get?
25:56Well, Hayden's doing that.
25:57And even that last section, him before the finish line, opening up that whole racetrack and it makes it smoother, but it slingshots him and it's a better advantage through the whole section through the next one.
26:08And that's just super impressive to me, being able to adapt like this.
26:11And I agree with Brian, either you got it or you don't.
26:14And the number one has it for sure.
26:15No doubt.
26:16And he also has a 6.6 second lead.
26:19Four minutes to go.
26:25Now, I think we've had this conversation before.
26:26Yes, Deegan has a bit of a challenge from Shimoda the last couple of weeks.
26:31We talked about you in 2004.
26:32You're last year in this class.
26:33You were dominant.
26:34You went all but one moto.
26:35How much is Deegan trying to improve to beat Shimoda?
26:39And how much is he taking lessons now to use for next year?
26:43Well, I think he has to improve to continue, like you said, to beat Joe.
26:47Joe's no slouch.
26:48You know, Joe is riding really good.
26:50So he's making Hayden have to elevate his game.
26:53Where I feel like in 2004, I was 40 seconds.
26:57I'm like, all right, today I'm going to win by a minute.
26:59You know?
26:59So it's a different kind of motivation where I think Hayden has the focus of when we came on the show.
27:04It's not over.
27:05Joe's riding really good.
27:07And if Hayden didn't adapt and didn't change, he was going to get beat that first moto.
27:11If he didn't adapt, he was going to get beat this moto.
27:13So Joe's making him a better rider.
27:16But it's also confidence for Hayden to be able to adapt during moto.
27:19So a lot of good stuff going on.
27:21But that's how good these two routers are riding right now.
27:24Yeah, he doesn't need to find motivation.
27:25Shimoda's providing it.
27:27Here's the all-time overall winners in this class.
27:30Deegan has 12.
27:31If he wins today and one more, he will be tied with.
27:34How about that?
27:35Jet Lawrence.
27:36Also Blake Baggett.
27:37And Brock Glover, who's a three-time champion of this division.
27:40Look at the name of the top.
27:41Yeah, I mean, I'm just so far out of it, you know, me and Ricky here.
27:45But I'm sure Hayden probably realizes where Jet is.
27:48Probably one of his goals to at least get to that.
27:51So he's like, look, I already had you covered.
27:53I'm a better 250 rider than you were.
27:55Now I'm going to come up here and serve notice to you in the 450.
27:57So see that line right there with Hayden?
27:59Now that whole straightaway got him straightened up.
28:02And it helps him throughout this whole part of the racetrack as well.
28:04So really impressive.
28:06But Joe's still doing what Joe does.
28:08He's continuing to fight.
28:09And I think this is going to help Hayden because Joe doesn't fall off the pace.
28:13He's going to push him to the end.
28:14And it's going to be good when these guys go up here.
28:17Hopefully Joe continues this next year as well.
28:19Well, yeah, that's the other part of the story.
28:21So with the Yamaha announcing that Deegan will race 450 starting outdoors next year.
28:27He's going to race 250 Supercross.
28:29I would imagine trying to defend in the same division that he won last year to run the number one plate.
28:34We'll see about that.
28:35But at this time next year, Deegan won't be in this class.
28:39So who's going to establish himself as the next title guy?
28:43Could be Shimoda.
28:44Could be the traditional frontrunners.
28:46You know, Kitchen has been good for years, for example.
28:49But it's always a young rider on the rise.
28:52Cole Davies.
28:53But I'm going to tell you right now, he comes back from his injuries.
28:55You know, Joe has been in this position a couple times where guys moved up and thought he was going to be that next guy.
29:00But to me, Joe is a little bit different now when Hayden has a bad start or something, Joe wins.
29:06You know, and I think that's the difference from the past.
29:08You know, you expect Joe to be there.
29:10But now he's clearly the second best guy when Hayden's not all.
29:13And Joe is able to win.
29:15And that's a lot of confidence moving forward.
29:16But, yeah, these young guys, they'll be better.
29:19Cole Davies is going to be up there.
29:20If he comes back from injury, it's going to be fun to watch.
29:22Now, hoping to get Davies maybe back for one of these pro motocross races.
29:26Had that huge arm injury at the Supercross finale, which ended a real Cinderella rookie pro season for him there.
29:33Hopefully, we get the New Zealander back.
29:36You know what?
29:37It's the perfect example.
29:38If you watch Shimoda right now, you think he's winning.
29:40I mean, he's riding so well.
29:42Yeah, no, Joe's riding really good.
29:43But even this line, what's cool is Hayden was losing the time to Joe.
29:48Joe had this part figured out.
29:49Now, Hayden switched his lines up, and you can see the difference.
29:52Joe wasn't as farther outside over that rhythm section.
29:56And it just slows his momentum down.
29:58So, a little bit of stuff that he'll go back and work on.
29:59And I know if anybody will, it's Joe Shimoda.
30:02Got to have a lot of fights to be able to continue to do this.
30:05He was still looking.
30:05Still looking over.
30:06It's marked where Deegan is, even with a 10-second deficit.
30:10And that's, again, I said in the early part of the race,
30:13Joe's going to continue riding as fast as Joe can go.
30:16So, you're not going to break him.
30:18He's there.
30:21Vial Marchbank's kitchen.
30:23Top five.
30:24Drew Adams up to sixth.
30:26In the anniversary of his pro debut last year,
30:29the young rider out of Tennessee.
30:31Then he's made the move on Voland.
30:34Check back in with Marchbanks here.
30:36Solid fourth.
30:38He's going to end up overall today just going to be fourth.
30:42Just on the podium because Vial just one tick better than both motos.
30:47There you see the scores.
30:51It'll be Harrop.
30:53Drew Adams looking for sixth.
30:54Hayden Deegan powering down as the clock ticks away.
31:04It's expired.
31:06So now two and a half laps to go.
31:07But the rider originally out of Temecula, California, like so many others, made the pilgrimage.
31:14Now, Tallahassee, Florida is home for him.
31:16And that's where the work's put in.
31:21And he's especially good on these rough-roated tracks.
31:24As for Adams, I mentioned sixth in the moto.
31:30He would actually be sixth overall if it ends like this.
31:32That'd be a new career best for him.
31:34Checking in with Austin Fortner before the break.
31:36Was really showing some signs.
31:38Creeping back into the top ten.
31:40And riding 11th right now.
31:42He's in a battle with Nate Thrasher.
31:45But look at their improvement the last couple of weekends from Fortner.
31:48Yeah, Austin is riding really good and getting better all year long.
31:53And, you know, talking to him a little bit.
31:54Sometimes he's still dealing with some injuries.
31:56So for him, sometimes these motos, a little bit harder to hang on.
32:00But he's still fighting.
32:02Saw him make a last corner pass, that first moto.
32:05Another bad start in his second one.
32:08Good to see Nate up here.
32:10Yeah, they were close to moto one battling again.
32:13Actually, 250 class.
32:14It's a battle out there somewhere.
32:16You know, and speaking of the young guys, you just mentioned Drew Adams getting sixth.
32:20You know, last year he made his pro debut here.
32:22So it's not, you know, not surprising that he comes to a racetrack that he's familiar.
32:27And he's showing some pace.
32:28He was able to get around Bolin and Mikael and even his teammate Handmakers.
32:34So next year he's going to be one of those guys that's more comfortable.
32:38And looking at our screen, we've got a battle for fourth place.
32:41Levi Kitchen has caught his teammate.
32:43Kitchen at Marchbank's just up ahead of this.
32:45And Parker Ross, by the way, eighth.
32:47This guy has been just locking down top tens week in and week out.
32:50It's his first full season as a pro.
32:53Well done, Parker.
32:54Well done, Thrasher.
32:56Keeping the heat on Forkner right now.
32:59Got the pristine auctions triumph versus the monster Yamaha Star Racing Machine.
33:04There's the teammates.
33:04There's Kitchen.
33:05There's Marchbank's.
33:07Yeah, Levi, I like this.
33:08A lot of fight for him.
33:09This second moto rebounding.
33:12Going to get his teammate right here.
33:14Got to always beat your teammate.
33:15Oh, that was slick.
33:17Kept the bike low to the ground on that single.
33:20And just like that, he's up to fourth.
33:23Yeah, and he's been working on it.
33:24I mean, they've been about four or five seconds ever since he got up into that fourth or fifth spot.
33:30So he stayed there, kept fighting, fighting.
33:33Finally got him.
33:34That's where it's going to end.
33:35Tom Bial's a good 20 seconds in front of him.
33:38We can semi-sorta count this as another Ironman with the bad moto.
33:43Good moto for Kitchen.
33:44You know, he wants more than fourth, but it's certainly better than the 14th that he had in moto one.
33:51Yeah, you know, Mitch Payton, he'll end up standing up out of that chair.
33:54Levi comes back riding like that.
33:56But I know Levi, he's got that heart.
33:59He wants to get up here.
34:01Mitch is always going to get him in shape.
34:03And he's been trying, he's been digging, just not quite the results expected.
34:08Again, this is a guy who generally is battling for these titles.
34:12And it's just puzzle pieces.
34:14We've seen signs from Kitchen throughout the summer.
34:18White flag now out for Deegan, and Shimoda just took it as well.
34:22They are all alone in third, and here is Hayden Deegan.
34:25Yes, that would be very interesting if he sweeps to end the year.
34:29If he wins all three, he will jump ahead of Jet Lawrence's career total of 250 motocross wins.
34:36And, yeah, I got to think he knows that.
34:39Or once he sees that, he'll be thinking about it.
34:41Yeah, I'm sure he watches the races afterwards as all these guys.
34:44So if he didn't know it before, he will.
34:46And always some motivation to go.
34:51Yeah, that's the battle everyone is anticipating.
34:53Of course, you've got to give credit to everyone else in that 450 class.
34:57Chase Sexton, who's winning races right now, Hunter Lawrence, Eli Tomac, and the rest.
35:01But that is a next-generation battle everyone is really looking forward to.
35:07And we might have it.
35:08Yeah, it's going to be good.
35:10You know, and Hayden, if I can give him one piece of advice,
35:13don't think you're going to go in that class and just run through them.
35:16You don't even know how dominant you are.
35:17And the reason I say that is because I experienced it firsthand.
35:20It's a different level.
35:21These guys are going to race you like you're a Super Bowl champion.
35:24They're going to give you your best.
35:25So last thing they want you to do is come up here.
35:27So it's going to be a lot of hard work, fight.
35:30But if anybody can do it, it'd be number one.
35:32He has the heart to do it.
35:33And he's got a good team behind him.
35:35Yep, they announced it.
35:36That's right.
35:37Next year is 450 in Pro Motocross.
35:39But keeping the eye on the prize here.
35:43Six races, points paying in his 250 career.
35:46And he's also on Team USA for the Motocross of Nations.
35:50So that will be seven more 250 races, including this, to go.
35:54And he's making the most of it right now.
35:57And don't forget, these wins pay good money.
35:59So that never hurts on the motivation side.
36:02Yeah, maybe get another set of keys after this.
36:06And he's got two nice cars already for the last couple of titles.
36:10Let's see how many more he can get.
36:12And this is it.
36:13A few turns left for Hayden Deegan.
36:16Firing out of the break.
36:17It looked like Shimoda might have had him early in the day.
36:20Second half of Moto 1 and all of Moto 2 are all Hayden Deegan.
36:25Danger Boy takes Iron Man.
36:31Shimoda, looks like James Stewart said, kept digging all the way to the end.
36:35He's still getting a good ride, Joe.
