00:00:00Is that clearly you are a great organiser of people, you do know how to handle your teams,
00:00:05you handled that boys team tremendously in the second week.
00:00:10Well liked and I think determined to get on with whatever you're asked to do.
00:00:17I also have taken note of from where you have come.
00:00:22The fact that at an early age you never had all these qualifications and all that type of stuff
00:00:26and then went out of the way to train yourself and get yourself back into education
00:00:32and get yourself the job that you've got.
00:00:34That shows me a lot of determination.
00:00:39Chris, you're young but that could be a good thing.
00:00:44It could be that I have a green shoot.
00:00:47You've shown throughout the course of this 12 weeks some great entrepreneurial ideas.
00:00:53Some of them are a bit wacky and some of them quite good.
00:01:07One of you is going to be very disappointed.
00:01:12I don't worry about the other person because I think that we have two great people here
00:01:23and they can hold their head up high, whatever.
00:01:27But it's a tough decision and the decision that I've come to
00:01:32is a...
00:01:41Stella, you're hired.
00:01:53Thank you, Marcia.
00:01:55Marcia.
00:02:25To think that little Stella from Tensme could be the winner of The Apprentice is unbelievable, but I've always believed it in my heart that I could do something great. It's just convincing other people, but I have now, and nobody can take that away from me. And I'm so excited about the future. It's all been worth it. All that blood, sweat and tears I've got through to the end, and I'm just so happy.
00:02:4916 candidates, one job. Lord Sugar's search for his apprentice is over.
00:02:57Welcome to The Apprentice, You're Hired. At last we know, in this special hour-long programme, we'll be meeting Stella, Chris and Lord Sugar. All the candidates are here, plus Nick and Karen. But first, let's meet our panel.
00:03:17Restaurateur Sarah Willingham, comedian Jack Dee, and columnist Amanda Plattel. Welcome to You're Hired.
00:03:23After 11 weeks of furious competition, it all came down to one point of the finger.
00:03:35One of you. One of you is going to be very disappointed. I don't worry about the other person, because I think we have two great people here. The decision that I've come to is that Stella, you're hired.
00:04:05Please welcome the runner-up and The Apprentice 2010, Chris Bates.
00:04:25Chris, how are you?
00:04:26Yeah, I'm not too bad, actually. Obviously, a little bit disappointed, but, you know, somebody had to lose, and obviously, I lost to a worthy winner, so...
00:04:36OK, Grant, that's safe enough to say. I mean, again, we're going to miss... You know what I'm going to miss? We're going to miss with blue eyes. Those incredible blue eyes.
00:04:41What trick were you playing in the boardroom with the blue eyes? That's astonishing.
00:04:44I'd like to say that it was the blue lens, but I think it genuinely is just my stadium blue eyes.
00:04:49It's astonishingly, it's only blue eyes. Well, it would have brought tear to a glass eye, though, how it ended. This reminds me of how you tackle the task, though.
00:04:55Alcoholic drinks represents big, big business.
00:04:58It's the Brazilian and Latino cocktails that are where it's at. Well, the really popular fruit is the pomegranate.
00:05:03I think there would be a gap in the market for that.
00:05:06If it's three, it makes more sense to do it as a pyramid. Like, a pyramid is also like a prism. Plus, prism sounds quite cool and quite high-end.
00:05:13I know.
00:05:14Who is the mixologist of your team?
00:05:16Reddy, pinky colour.
00:05:18Rosé.
00:05:19Yeah.
00:05:20Is it a bit feminine?
00:05:21I'm really hoping the drink isn't that colour.
00:05:23The colour is clear, to confirm, yeah?
00:05:25No, the colour isn't clear.
00:05:27Yeah!
00:05:28I'm happy!
00:05:29Come on!
00:05:30Yeah!
00:05:31Action!
00:05:32That's far for me.
00:05:33I thought the advert was not very good at all.
00:05:46I introduced to you prism.
00:05:48They didn't think it was a male product.
00:05:51It was a very female drink.
00:05:53I think you can see that looking quite good in a backlit bar.
00:05:57I think that bottle's great myself.
00:05:59The shape and the colour will really, really work strongly for the room.
00:06:03Prism really does reflect every side of you.
00:06:06I need about ten prismos right now.
00:06:07I want a prismos.
00:06:08We need a prismos.
00:06:09Why don't we start with the bottle, right?
00:06:21That is quite a weapon.
00:06:23In an alcoholic situation, you've given people an instrument with which they could do genuine
00:06:28harm to somebody else.
00:06:29Did you not ever consider this?
00:06:31In all honesty, I think when we came up with the design, in a prototype form it is a bit
00:06:37sharp.
00:06:38You might have to take a little bit off the end, but I think the idea is always that you're
00:06:41going to be walking into the bar and that the barman who's sober is going to be serving
00:06:44it out of the bottle, so it would never get into the hands of a drunk person too much.
00:06:49Sarah, you run cocktail bars.
00:06:51Is this design craziness or is it beautiful?
00:06:53Actually, I agree with the comments earlier that behind the bar, that with a light shining
00:06:59through it, it'll attract your attention.
00:07:01It'll be up there with all the other coloured cocktail mixers.
00:07:03Yeah, but would that make you want to drink it or would you make it fear it?
00:07:06I think it would make me want to stroke it, for sure.
00:07:09Definitely.
00:07:10Really?
00:07:11Yeah.
00:07:12Can I hold it?
00:07:13Yes, of course you can hold it.
00:07:14Absolutely, yeah.
00:07:15Admit it, Dara, you and me are both in the business where we occasionally get bottles
00:07:20thrown at us.
00:07:21And that's what's lurking in the back of your mind.
00:07:23The worry there that Chris has actually made being bottled more dangerous.
00:07:28Because that is aerodynamic.
00:07:29It would cut through the air.
00:07:31Eh, quite good.
00:07:32It is no drag at all.
00:07:33It's quite a beautiful thing like whatever.
00:07:36But if you lean down quickly in a cocktail bar.
00:07:38Ah!
00:07:39Ah!
00:07:40Ah!
00:07:41Yeah, actually I'm not sure it's one that we'd want to be playing with.
00:07:44You toss it!
00:07:45Can you imagine doing that?
00:07:46I'm not even going to do it now in case I lose a testicle.
00:07:48That's true.
00:07:49Eh, that's right.
00:07:50Let's face it, you'd have trouble finding a brown paper bag to put that in, wouldn't
00:07:54you, in a park.
00:07:55Fairly obvious.
00:07:56What man in a park?
00:07:57What, what wino would be investing their money in prison?
00:08:01A very effete tramp, you know.
00:08:02Yes.
00:08:03I drink prism.
00:08:04I may be a tramp.
00:08:05I may be a tramp, but I like pomegranate.
00:08:07Eh, I find it vibrant and evocative.
00:08:10What is vibrant and evocative about a pomegranate?
00:08:13Um, I'm not entirely sure actually.
00:08:15Er...
00:08:16No, I guess, you know, I think with the pomegranate we were trying to go for something which
00:08:19was quite sort of on-trend at the time.
00:08:21Um, and it is, you know, you're seeing it used quite a lot in different drinks, but,
00:08:24yeah, evocative and, um, what was the other word?
00:08:27Oh, vibrant.
00:08:28Vibrant.
00:08:29Yeah, that might be going a little bit far.
00:08:30I'm sorry, I may have missed the pomegranate trend, er, of 2010.
00:08:34I feel like I'm over the loop at this stage.
00:08:35Well, yeah, you know, you've got to pay attention to that.
00:08:37Yeah, I'm sorry, yeah.
00:08:38Like, er...
00:08:39Amanda, what do you think of it?
00:08:40Well, you also mentioned that you thought it was both chic and sophisticated.
00:08:43And, and I have to say, I don't think that portals either of those things.
00:08:47The, the, the basic problem I thought with you, because you're a brilliant salesman,
00:08:50and in the beginning of that particular challenge you said,
00:08:53I'm not going to be swayed by what other people think.
00:08:55This is what, this is my challenge, this is my chance at the big time.
00:08:59And then you let Liz talk you into a pink drink inside a bloke's bottle.
00:09:04And I, I have to say, I think that was your first big mistake.
00:09:06See, the beauty of this is we actually can cut to people in the audience looking embarrassed.
00:09:10We're just kind of Liz covering her face there.
00:09:12Liz, as a man, no, no, to a pink drink.
00:09:17Jack, would you drink a pink drink?
00:09:18Er, I'd drink anything.
00:09:19That's true.
00:09:20You were drinking in a park a minute ago.
00:09:21Yeah, exactly.
00:09:22So, frankly, why are you not picking?
00:09:23Yeah, it wouldn't matter to me.
00:09:24No, I thought it was quite refreshing.
00:09:25I thought the idea of it, I thought it was all right.
00:09:27I mean, to be fair, like, er, you get guys drinking pink champagne, rosé,
00:09:30and stuff like that, you know.
00:09:31Not very often, you know.
00:09:32Not that often, no.
00:09:33Is that just me, then?
00:09:34Yeah, just you, actually, yeah.
00:09:36It's kind of, maybe slightly inferred to pick on Liz, given that Liz is a lady.
00:09:39She would have gone, I like this drink.
00:09:40Shibby's job was to want to turn around and go, no, as a man, and as a doctor.
00:09:45Er, I think, as a medical doctor, I think this is genetically wrong.
00:09:49Er, that's what you'd expect people to do this.
00:09:51Er, now, Lord Sugar did criticise the ad, right?
00:09:54And, you know, you have a history of Lord Sugar criticising your advertisements.
00:09:57Yeah.
00:09:58Germanator!
00:09:59Er, the, er, but why do you keep going back to do more ads?
00:10:02Er, I think the problem was with this one is I kind of, I had, I think the ideas in my head sometimes aren't that bad, but it's just the execution is always terrible.
00:10:10Yeah, well, because the idea in your head was a woman kind of swaying gently to the music.
00:10:14It was exactly right.
00:10:15It was some, oi!
00:10:16Yeah, sure.
00:10:17She was there, she was like, oh, I'm here, I'm dancing.
00:10:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:10:21I mean, the problem was is I left myself half an hour.
00:10:23So it's like, can you walk in kind of, you know, cool and casual, it's like, oi!
00:10:26And I'm like, yeah, all right, that actually will have to do, that's fine, yeah.
00:10:30Yeah, we actually, this is, you know, to be fair, that does look like a classy drink.
00:10:35Yeah.
00:10:36It looks like a hideously large bottle, er, actually doesn't, it looks like a trailer to a science fiction movie.
00:10:40Er, this is like a major city, and this is, the prisms have come, bum, bum, bum, and they arrived.
00:10:47The other, what do you think of the answer, what do you think of the answer?
00:10:49It was unfortunate that there were two women came out of the, out of the loos, it seemed, going like that,
00:10:54and then a bloke came out after them, and it was looking a bit tired, I don't know what's going on.
00:10:59Yeah, to be fair though, if you thought a prism could do that for you, wouldn't you go?
00:11:02Yeah, I would have, certainly.
00:11:05You were unlucky as well with your choice of barman, because you couldn't get anything in the glass, could it?
00:11:08Yeah, he was.
00:11:10Hormograms are all over the place, and then we set some sort of...
00:11:13I've got a whole bottle of this, it's five, look.
00:11:15Is that a good ad? It's so good, the barmen are hammered.
00:11:19Yeah.
00:11:20We can't get fruit in the glass, that's how bad we are.
00:11:23I think, I think the slogan's great, and actually, every time you said it, it kind of hit home to everybody in the audience, they really got it.
00:11:30What about, look, Stella obviously would be a nature, but bourbon, is bourbon a better choice for a mixing drink?
00:11:36Well bourbon's, bourbon's a big growth market, and you know, it's something that we've looked at.
00:11:41We've got loads of bourbon mixed cocktails, for that very reason, so, and the problem is, is that Jack Daniels owns that market.
00:11:47Yeah.
00:11:48It's so rock and roll, so anybody that comes out with a bourbon, actually aimed at the female market, is onto a winner, because it doesn't exist at the moment.
00:11:54Chris, you've had some ups and downs throughout this entire process, let's remind ourselves of some of the more challenging times first.
00:12:01I'm supremely intelligent, ambitious, I'm an all-round gifted individual.
00:12:05I had an idea for an advertising campaign you could do as well, germinate.
00:12:10You decided to make a shockingly bad advert.
00:12:13And action.
00:12:14Ah!
00:12:15It's quite funny.
00:12:16Well, I admit that maybe I made a mistake.
00:12:19Oh my God!
00:12:20I've lost three tasks in a bro now, I'm desperate not to lose another one.
00:12:24I'm getting a bit sick and tired of seeing your face here.
00:12:27They had nine appointments, and you had six.
00:12:30Well done on that, guys, I mean, they're really good orders.
00:12:33Is this a message that I'm getting from above somewhere, it's telling me that you are a loser?
00:12:38I'm not a loser, at the end of the day, well, I mean, obviously I have in terms of the numbers which you have.
00:12:43I'm not sure whether I can risk it any more, really.
00:12:48You even mentioned on this show about your ratio, your ratio, by the way, the 11th task was six losses and five wins.
00:12:56Not the greatest ratio in the world, and yet you're still here.
00:12:59Yeah, no, I know.
00:13:00There were times, especially when it got to the eighth week, and me and Jamie survived,
00:13:06and I'd been in the bottom three three times in a row, and he'd been in there twice.
00:13:09And I started really thinking to myself, maybe this just isn't meant to be,
00:13:12because I can't carry on going on losing tasks and possibly get to the final.
00:13:16We actually kind of made a bit of a pact with each other that we are definitely not losing another task,
00:13:21because otherwise, you know, at least one of us has gone, if not probably both of us.
00:13:25And we did manage to pull together a couple of wins at the end,
00:13:27because otherwise my record was looking absolutely shocking, actually.
00:13:30I think week eight, I'd lost six and one, too. It was an inspiring reason, to be fair.
00:13:35And then the one you went on to, of course, was the negotiating task.
00:13:38Yeah.
00:13:39How is your brother, by the way? How do those taxi exams go? Did that go out?
00:13:42Well, his name's Lauren, and he's in the audience, and he's actually a sister who doesn't drive a taxi.
00:13:49You lied!
00:13:51I know, shock horror, I was selling porcupines.
00:13:53OK, what about your granny? Your granny, did she get to the wedding? Did she get the...
00:13:58No, no, that was genuinely true, yeah. She got to the wedding and had a birthday present.
00:14:03Of some charity, yeah. OK, that she wanted to make a kit with, yeah.
00:14:06I think, genuinely, I thought, if we're going to go down there sort of telling a few white lies,
00:14:10you might as well make them as ridiculous as possible, because they're blatantly not going to actually believe you,
00:14:15but they'll probably feel so sorry for you that they might just give you a few quid off,
00:14:18just basically to get you out of the shop and all that stuff.
00:14:20I actually think you just confused people with it. I think that was the strategic error,
00:14:25because you'd say your brother was doing the knowledge, and he had these books,
00:14:29but then he'd lent you the books, and therefore he couldn't take his exams.
00:14:32Why would he lend a load of atlases to you, when you can't even find your way around anyway?
00:14:40Why would you... It's not like you had to borrow that.
00:14:42And then in the tartan shop, I mean, you excelled yourself, that was absolutely incredible.
00:14:45You were going to a wedding in Scotland, and you wanted some tartan for your nan,
00:14:50because she just passed her 11-plus or something, and she had to get her arms re-upholstered,
00:14:55so she could become an astronaut. And the guy was sitting there,
00:14:58just take the tartan and get out of here.
00:15:00Well, that was it pretty much, really. You just drive them to absolute despair with this constant string of nonsense.
00:15:06Is this a business technique you've ever used in any other context?
00:15:10I think I definitely will do in the future. Any other negotiations, it seems to be a winner, so...
00:15:15I mean, it's been a story. Were you impressed with this?
00:15:17I thought he was brilliant, actually. I loved the way you were so quick on your feet.
00:15:20And I was really having to reel back and reel back and think,
00:15:23this is extraordinary. I could employ that guy.
00:15:26Oh, thank you very much.
00:15:27Except for, of course...
00:15:29Of course, my newspaper wouldn't have someone who lied all the time.
00:15:32Oh!
00:15:33Oh, that's not even a start on that.
00:15:36You don't get this far, however, without shining.
00:15:39Let's see the full Chris Bates charm in action.
00:15:42Pretty amazing, isn't it?
00:15:44Well, that was amazing.
00:15:45Got to put on a bit of a charm offensive, I think.
00:15:47It really shakes your finger well.
00:15:49I think women want to feel quite special when they're trying on clothes, you know.
00:15:52You are the person who's the best at all, I have to say.
00:15:55They probably believed that, you know, you were actually being serious.
00:15:58And sometimes I was.
00:15:59OK.
00:16:00Yeah? Brilliant.
00:16:01You're not just a pretty face, mate. You're a good salesman too.
00:16:04178 pounds in one sale, it's up to your mouth.
00:16:07I don't know if you remember, but I was also a winning premium from last week.
00:16:11Yeah.
00:16:12Yeah.
00:16:13Yeah.
00:16:14Yeah.
00:16:15Yeah.
00:16:16Yeah.
00:16:17Yeah.
00:16:18As Stuart put it in his own unique way, you were actually the winning premium of the
00:16:25most successful team that has ever, the biggest sale we've ever had. I mean, you always had
00:16:30that momentum from that going for you as well.
00:16:32Well, yeah, I mean, I can't take, you know, too much credit for that, because obviously
00:16:35Liz pulled off a really good sale, and that was a big reason why we won. Although, obviously,
00:16:40securing the product was a big thing.
00:16:42Also a huge thing, yeah.
00:16:43And recognising the product.
00:16:44So, I do feel entitled to take a little bit of credit, because obviously, you know,
00:16:47when the project manager invariably loses a task, it's always their fault.
00:16:51So, at times you have to take a little bit of credit when you win.
00:16:53Absolutely.
00:16:54You have to do that.
00:16:55I mean, you're impressed by that.
00:16:56Well, I did.
00:16:57And one of the things I thought was quite interesting in the end, in the final shows, is when you
00:17:01were quite modest about what you'd achieved, and you did come up with a great package,
00:17:06and a slightly weird idea, and a terrible drink, but there was a lot to be said for it.
00:17:11But you didn't take the credit for it, and then when we got to the end, and Stella started
00:17:15attacking you, I thought it was really interesting that you never attacked her in a personal way.
00:17:20And that struck me as one of the really big, one of the qualities about you I liked the most.
00:17:24You were really good with your team, and you encouraged people, but you were never personal,
00:17:29and attacking.
00:17:30Well, that's obviously very, very nice of you to say.
00:17:32I guess in the final I kind of always wanted, you know, I felt that it should be my merits,
00:17:45really, which I argue across to get me the job or not.
00:17:48And I didn't want to go down the line of saying I'm better and stellar than this and that,
00:17:52because ultimately it's not, you know, it's not really the way that I do things.
00:17:57But, you know, it was, yeah, I mean, to be fair, she's also got a lot of great qualities,
00:18:02and very much a deserving winner, so.
00:18:04Absolutely.
00:18:05We have to also mark the gambler's attitude to risk that you took in the London tour guide task.
00:18:10Chris came up with something a bit innovative.
00:18:13We want somebody who is a risk taker.
00:18:15If you were to promote our tour, I think that it would be realistic that we would give you 20% of our earnings tomorrow.
00:18:2120% of everything.
00:18:22Yeah.
00:18:23Oh, even the tickets you sold?
00:18:24Yeah.
00:18:25That was adventurous, wasn't it?
00:18:26I was very keen to make sure that we won that swap.
00:18:29This must be our man.
00:18:30We are delighted to make you on tour today.
00:18:32That's fantastic.
00:18:33Well, you rolled the dice there, Chris.
00:18:35You've come in with a good win.
00:18:37That's what I call a shrewd business move.
00:18:40Right.
00:18:41You're between friends now, right?
00:18:43The process is over.
00:18:44Nothing had happened.
00:18:45You made a mess of that and bluffed your way through it, didn't you?
00:18:49That isn't what you intended to do, was it?
00:18:51It genuinely was.
00:18:52Honestly, if you let me explain, I think I've heard that a lot, actually.
00:18:57I've been getting a lot of criticism.
00:18:58They're like, you are a chancer.
00:18:59There's no way it was an innovative move.
00:19:01The reality is, though, that ticket office was such a key thing.
00:19:05I mean, if you actually broke down our sales, I mean, they sold probably about £700 or something
00:19:10out of £1,100 worth.
00:19:12Yeah, yeah.
00:19:13So, handing out 20% of what we sold really wasn't anything sort of, you know, remotely
00:19:18in the same league as not getting that pitch.
00:19:20So, it was a huge thing to secure, and really, whatever team was going to get that,
00:19:24regardless of how much it gave away, was going to win the task.
00:19:26Yeah, I can see you've had to practice this speech.
00:19:28I'm not entirely convinced by, like, Jamie's tips.
00:19:33You gave him 20% of them.
00:19:35I've never seen him look so disappointed, ever.
00:19:37His little face!
00:19:38He was like £13 of his tips had to hand over at the end of the day, like that.
00:19:43No, I mean, he was gutted.
00:19:44I mean, he worked very hard for his tips.
00:19:46I mean, it was quite funny, even at the beginning, before he didn't have got any tips,
00:19:49it was like, he didn't think, what even of our ticket sales?
00:19:52It was, does that mean even my tips?
00:19:55You know, he was gutted.
00:19:57Sarah, are you impressed by this move?
00:19:59I agree with everything you've just said, but I honestly, inside, I feel that that wasn't
00:20:05with the benefit of foresight, that was all with the benefit of hindsight.
00:20:08I think you're winging it, honestly.
00:20:11And I think at the time, afterwards, you went, oh, my God, I've just given away 20% of everything.
00:20:17I went, oh, please, God, let it work.
00:20:19Please let it work.
00:20:20And it paid off.
00:20:21And now he can give us this brilliant speech.
00:20:23I'm dead proud you did really well.
00:20:25You were so strewed.
00:20:26I'm taking it to the grave with me.
00:20:29On your brother's life, right?
00:20:35Yeah.
00:20:36Another tartan granny.
00:20:37My nan's tartan, it was true.
00:20:39I didn't mean that.
00:20:40It was a good move.
00:20:42Amanda, are you impressed with me?
00:20:43Yeah, I thought, listen, you've got to take risks.
00:20:45And, you know, this isn't just about business, this is also a game that you really want to win.
00:20:49And I thought you had a lot of courage.
00:20:50I like that.
00:20:51I like that about you all the way through.
00:20:53Okay.
00:20:54Jack, you're unconvinced.
00:20:55If you can turn your mistakes to your advantages.
00:20:58And we know that Chris is someone we can believe.
00:21:03When he says I'm good enough for me.
00:21:04It's good enough for me.
00:21:05Good enough for me.
00:21:06Okay, Chris, we're going to take a little break for you for a second.
00:21:08You're going to relax.
00:21:09We're going to come to Amanda.
00:21:10You've been looking over the entire series for us.
00:21:11Yes.
00:21:12For some moments that really stood out.
00:21:13Yeah.
00:21:14Now, how critical is the boardroom in all this?
00:21:15Oh, it's absolutely critical.
00:21:16And I think especially it's so topical now.
00:21:18Because when this first clip that I've chosen came up, there was a big survey that said again
00:21:23that there are no women, there are very few women in the boardroom in the blue chip companies.
00:21:27Watch this clip and you'll see why.
00:21:29Okay, let's take a look at the first clip.
00:21:30And this is all the way back in program two.
00:21:32I would happily bring in the whole team, actually, to this boardroom again.
00:21:37I think she needs to bring in.
00:21:38Joy and Paloma.
00:21:39Joy and Paloma.
00:21:40Joy hasn't contributed much.
00:21:41I've given 150%.
00:21:42I don't understand a lot of the brainstorming.
00:21:43When we first started this, it's not a structure to anything.
00:21:44This is a personal attack.
00:21:45No, it's not.
00:21:46It's a professional attack.
00:21:47It's not.
00:21:48It's a professional attack.
00:21:49It's ridiculous.
00:21:50You are representing business women today.
00:21:51And I have to say, it is outrageous the way you're behaving.
00:22:02Well said.
00:22:04Now, as a woman...
00:22:06I rest my case.
00:22:07What more can I say?
00:22:08A good woman boss is the best boss you can have.
00:22:11And I think that Stella showed that throughout the series.
00:22:14She was brilliant running a team.
00:22:15A bad woman boss is one of the worst things you'll ever experience.
00:22:18And that was a gaggle of bad women bosses.
00:22:21And it was awful.
00:22:23None of them would have stayed in my company for a week after that, I'm afraid.
00:22:28Sarah, what did you think?
00:22:29I mean, obviously, when you watch that, you can't argue with that.
00:22:32That's a clip from a very, very competitive environment that's on television.
00:22:37I don't think that is representative of women in business at all, I think.
00:22:42I think, you know, as somebody who spends a lot of time in a boardroom,
00:22:46I haven't seen that type of behaviour from women.
00:22:48I have seen it a bit.
00:22:51Was it particularly unhelpful to have a guy on a trumpet going...
00:22:58That kind of set the tone for it a bit.
00:23:01Jack, do you want to comment on women generally in a way that could be offensive?
00:23:06I think that there was a bit of pecking order going on there, wasn't it?
00:23:10They were all trying to find that.
00:23:12And there is also an element of, like, Chiefs and Indians were in week two.
00:23:14It is.
00:23:15People are trying to impress.
00:23:16Yeah, it's quite difficult to do that.
00:23:17And also, Amanda, in fairness,
00:23:18I mean, there must have been some horrendous situations in boardrooms with just men.
00:23:21Totally.
00:23:22When you think of...
00:23:23My point is that that played into all of the stereotypes of women.
00:23:26True.
00:23:27Men don't behave.
00:23:28They would not, in a boardroom, they do not start picking on each other like that.
00:23:31They're much more calculated.
00:23:32They do it beforehand.
00:23:33They do it after.
00:23:34They kill you.
00:23:35They cut your legs off.
00:23:36But what they don't do is that kind of, that sort of nate, that frenzy thing in front of each other.
00:23:41Yeah, yeah.
00:23:42Because that just gives you game away.
00:23:43That's not cool.
00:23:44No, they stand on Trafalgar Square going, UFO.
00:23:46No, UFO.
00:23:47You're going to hit me.
00:23:48You're going to hit me.
00:23:49Fair point.
00:23:54OK.
00:23:55There are two people on The Apprentice who deserve particular applaud us for being both keen-eyed and sharp-witted.
00:23:59Let's turn the spotlight onto Lord Sugar's trustee aides, Nick and Karen,
00:24:02who witness first-hand the good, the bad and the downward ugly moments with the candidates.
00:24:07Karen, it's been your first year with us as an aide.
00:24:10You had the Junior Apprentice in the summer and now this.
00:24:13Have you enjoyed it?
00:24:14Oh, I've loved every minute.
00:24:15It's been really special.
00:24:16It's unbelievable to be part of your favourite show.
00:24:19I don't think people understand, looking from the outside in, the amount of integrity and professionalism
00:24:23that goes into producing such a great show that it is.
00:24:26And what has been your favourite moment of the series?
00:24:29I think the Battle of Trafalgar Square was quite up there.
00:24:33I thought On the Buses was a really great programme.
00:24:36It was great to be part of it.
00:24:38We've been on the lookout for your most memorable moments and here they are.
00:24:41This is what I asked you.
00:24:43Can I just say something?
00:24:45Yeah.
00:24:46I've never come across anything like this.
00:24:56You were very annoying.
00:24:57Ooh.
00:24:58What do you think, Karen?
00:24:59Very nice.
00:25:03You were like a sulky child in the meeting.
00:25:06I'm not sure I can go forward with this.
00:25:09I think you could smell your desperation.
00:25:11We don't have a single sausage.
00:25:18They're not on fire, are they, Chris?
00:25:19I mean, I have to say, how hard is it to stand with a megaphone shouting out muffins?
00:25:26Give it up, never, never stop.
00:25:28I see you watching me, watching you.
00:25:32I see you watching you.
00:25:34And now you see, I'm just where you gotta be.
00:25:47Nick, you've been on the show since it began.
00:25:48What will you take away from this series?
00:25:49Quite a lot of things.
00:25:50A great series.
00:25:51A great series.
00:25:52Two great finalists.
00:25:53Chris's use of the English language is quite extraordinary.
00:25:54The most articulate fellow ever to appear on The Apprentice.
00:25:58If only he could harness that articulacy with the voice of Richard Burton, then we'd really
00:26:03have a start.
00:26:04As Madonna once sang in Vogue, Rita Hayward gave good face, but we think the same applies
00:26:08to Nick.
00:26:09You've been on the show since it began.
00:26:10You've been on the show since it began.
00:26:11What will you take away from this series?
00:26:12Quite a lot of things.
00:26:13A great series.
00:26:14A great series.
00:26:15Two great finalists.
00:26:16A great series.
00:26:17A great series.
00:26:18I don't think we'd really have a start.
00:26:19As Madonna once sang in Vogue, Rita Hayward gave good face, but we think the same applies
00:26:23to Nick Hewer.
00:26:24I don't want to offer you too many well-worn cliches.
00:26:27A towel.
00:26:28With a pillowcase.
00:26:29Seven at the top of it.
00:26:30A headless chicken immediately springs to mind.
00:26:33Um, let's see, that's wrong on there, sorry.
00:26:36Um.
00:26:37Let's not pretend this is a sort of a nuclear submarine is selling.
00:26:40They're all jumping up and down on the spot, hugging each other.
00:26:42Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss.
00:26:43this kiss, you're all over it like a tramp on chips. Long, skinny, wobbly sausages have
00:26:52turned into fat, seductive bangers. That's not a pretty sight, really. I thought it'd
00:27:02known you, actually, after that experience. Yeah. Who does he think he is? What a shambles
00:27:09they are. She can, as an octopus, perhaps, grope her husband. What a horrible muddle it's
00:27:19all is, and I'm, well, bored with it now.
00:27:27Thank you, Alison and I.
00:27:38Jack, I want to come to you. You're no stranger to the precious Jack of The Apprentice, having
00:27:42done The Apprentice for Comic Relief, a role that you took very seriously.
00:27:47I'm sorry. I'm just repeating that. Just leave me alone. Go away. Jack. Jack, look at
00:27:56this. Jack. Yeah, you want a piece of me? Jack. We've got about ten minutes. I can't get
00:28:03on, Jack. Jack. Come on. Hang on, who's going to say the name of the cat? We're working out
00:28:09down there. We've got to go. Come on, bring your indigestion pills. If you're in a frying
00:28:15thing, can I suggest the person who counts the chairs? Because both times I've been in
00:28:21there, I didn't get a chair. And Fiona's the same. And that means we don't get water either.
00:28:25Anyway. A small point. Sorry.
00:28:38Sadly, your boys' team did lose that task. How did you find being on The Apprentice?
00:28:42Well, you know, it's very nerve-wracking. It's terrifying. If you make too many mistakes,
00:28:47you could end up working for Lord Sugar. And that's what no-one wants. No-one would wish
00:28:51that on anyone. It is actually quite surprising, even given that I have a job, so to speak.
00:28:59The pressure is still on to come up with stuff. And I was unlucky that I was lumped with such
00:29:05piss-poor people. Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Gok Wang were on my team, so it was no hope
00:29:12from beginning to end. I mean, clearly I was brilliant. And all the good stuff came from
00:29:17me, but it was too late by then. I'm sorry to hear that. You have chosen some of your favourite
00:29:21moments from this series, though. I have, yes. I think there was a lovely bit to do with
00:29:26Alex and the Germinator. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which I was very... I'm a huge fan of Alex.
00:29:30I think... Well, do you know, it was more... It's so entertaining. I think it was impressive.
00:29:33This task was the sheer attention to detail brought to this task. Yeah. Alex, did you clean up
00:29:37or mess up, then? My background is marketing, advertising, PR. Who designed this label?
00:29:45What colour would you associate with clean? Yellow. Quite dark, mysterious. I like that. I like that.
00:29:51I like that. They're not natural colours that you would associate with cleaning products.
00:29:55That is going to become the iconic cleaner. It says here, it must be kept out of reach
00:30:00for children. Germinator! I'm saying that will be perfectly fine. Wow. Thanks, Germinator.
00:30:08Oh, dear. Very casual about both the market research and the sheer science of don't give detergent
00:30:14to kids. Yeah, that's... He's got a great talent for embracing bad ideas. He's just all the way through.
00:30:20And I don't know if I'm the only one who thought that he looked like Madame Tussaud's
00:30:24first attempt at Gordon Brown. I think... I just... Every time I watched it, I thought he looked...
00:30:35That's what he looks like. He looks like a little, tiny, friendly version of Gordon Brown
00:30:39that you might put in your garden next to a pond with a fishing rod.
00:30:44But, of course, the other great product that we have came a little earlier in the series. It was this one.
00:30:48Basically, product was rubbish. Yes. I think it's going to become a holiday must. I really do.
00:30:55Oh, shit. Just looks a bit clunky. No orders. It would blow over really quickly.
00:31:03Who else didn't like this bloody thing?
00:31:07Because it's the first time, on a task like this, we've ever had a situation where there's totally zero orders.
00:31:15You honestly get better quality self-assembly kits in a Kinder Egg.
00:31:20That was such a poor idea. And I don't know why Joanna was the one who was in love with it all the way through.
00:31:24All the way through. Wouldn't let it go. This is the most marvellous thing that she could have thought of.
00:31:28It's the idea that you'd have something on the beach. I mean, what a prat you'd look like on the beach with that.
00:31:33Come on. You didn't really believe in it, did you, Joanna?
00:31:36Well, Boots wanted the product. Oh, no. They wanted exclusivity.
00:31:39And you said they couldn't have it, didn't you? I didn't say that.
00:31:41Oh, no, that's just thought that one again. It was more...
00:31:44Well, it was more effective when they put it together. There was a bit where they would...
00:31:47I know. I know. I know.
00:31:49It's like losing an eye on the beach.
00:31:50It's the sort of thing you see someone with on the beach and think, what the hell is he doing?
00:31:55And then if he does get it put together, you think, what an arse. Look at that.
00:31:59I don't even hold his own book. It's just...
00:32:01But you can only read it when you're lying on your front. You can only read when you're lying on your front.
00:32:04If you lie on your back, it's behind you. As soon as it falls.
00:32:07If you rebuild it over your midriff, and then you get this book shape of a shadow, and you're tired.
00:32:14You also spotted something about Chris and Chris's appearance, didn't you?
00:32:17Chris, you know, Chris, this is the thing I've been puzzled by, and I'm glad to have met you finally,
00:32:21because I actually suspect, and I think I'm probably right, is that Chris is a werewolf.
00:32:26I think he's...
00:32:31I do think he's very rational and contained now, but I should think on a full moon he'd rip your throat out, wouldn't he?
00:32:38You can just see it. There is quite the Twilight element to you, all right?
00:32:41It's quite the Robert Patterson kind of...
00:32:43I prefer that to just a werewolf.
00:32:46We're going with that one, yeah.
00:32:47Was there something about Chris's delivery that struck you as well?
00:32:50Yeah, I just see he's a bit monotone, a bit sort of...
00:32:52I think he's just smile a bit more, lighten up, you know?
00:32:56No one likes someone who's miserable all the time.
00:32:59It doesn't suit anyone to do that. You've got to give it a bit more.
00:33:03Give it a bit more.
00:33:04Yeah, this is Chris doing his best, Jack Dean.
00:33:06I think Chris is never short of a fact, but he's short of a variety of tone.
00:33:1235-year-old professionals who drink at home and in high-end drinking establishments.
00:33:18He's being commented on being the... the bomber.
00:33:20Nick describes him as a low-flying bomber.
00:33:22Yeah, it is a bit like that, really.
00:33:26Because at the end of the day, I like the products.
00:33:28I think we've presented them before.
00:33:30Is there any chance I put you down for a ticket?
00:33:33No.
00:33:35I'm extremely funny.
00:33:39I'm doing every minute of being here.
00:33:41Yeah, it's really good.
00:33:43I absolutely loved it.
00:33:47It is.
00:33:56No, sometimes you can sound a little flashy.
00:33:58No, I do see that, to be fair.
00:34:01It was one of those things.
00:34:02As soon as Nick said it, I just knew it was going to follow me around forever.
00:34:06And low-flying bomber I will forever be on.
00:34:10Sarah, how would you sum up, Chris?
00:34:12I think you're great.
00:34:13I really do.
00:34:14I think you've done brilliantly.
00:34:15And I think, in a different set of circumstances, you could have easily won this.
00:34:20But you were up against somebody that has a very similar background to you, actually.
00:34:24But she's got six years on you.
00:34:26And six years in your twenties is such a long time.
00:34:29Jack?
00:34:30You did a good job, yeah.
00:34:31Very good.
00:34:32The penguin suit is a winner.
00:34:34You look almost human in it.
00:34:36And I think we've all had rabies shots, so we can meet you tonight.
00:34:39It's clear you are a werewolf, and you're being contained now.
00:34:43But later on tonight, near where he lives, he'll be out on the hill.
00:34:46He'll be like, whoa!
00:34:49Amanda?
00:34:50You've been a great contestant.
00:34:51You really have.
00:34:52But may I just say that the other person, I think, who's been brilliant in this series is Stuart.
00:34:56Because I think it would have been a much lesser show without you.
00:34:59And all your silly sayings, like, I'm not a one-trick pony.
00:35:03I'm a whole field of ponies.
00:35:07They're great.
00:35:08They're just wonderful.
00:35:09You're priceless.
00:35:10Here we go.
00:35:17Look, we always give people just to remind them of their time in The Apprentice.
00:35:21You can blame this one on Nick.
00:35:22You already know what this is going to be.
00:35:24Oh, I know what it is.
00:35:25Clearly, there's no other way that we could get other than send you out
00:35:28with your own low-flying bomber just set down there.
00:35:32That is for you.
00:35:33You remember the time you did here.
00:35:36Thank you very much.
00:35:44Because you made it all the way to the final, here are your much-deserved highlights.
00:35:48Who is it?
00:35:53I simply am that good.
00:35:58He's good at sales.
00:35:59He's good at pitching.
00:36:01Tucking in those muffin tops.
00:36:02The whole package, really.
00:36:05Would you like a muffin?
00:36:08A really nice guy.
00:36:10Very solid pair of hands.
00:36:11Oh, we've got some sausage balls here.
00:36:13End of mix.
00:36:14All calm, collected.
00:36:15Come on!
00:36:16Yes!
00:36:17A record-breaking win.
00:36:18Yeah!
00:36:19Yeah!
00:36:20Yeah!
00:36:21Yeah!
00:36:22Yeah!
00:36:23Yeah!
00:36:24Yep, that was me.
00:36:25Come on!
00:36:26Get rid of this gravy!
00:36:27I just can't get rid of this gravy!
00:36:28Get rid of this gravy!
00:36:29I just can't get rid of this gravy!
00:36:31That's just what I'm looking for.
00:36:35Oh, I don't know.
00:36:36Oh, I don't know.
00:36:37Would've offered a bit of my brat first.
00:36:38Oh!
00:36:39I hope you've enjoyed my presentation.
00:36:40I don't know if you do that.
00:36:41Honestly.
00:36:50Cheers, guys!
00:36:55Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Bates!
00:37:08Now to the winner.
00:37:10And this was the moment when we knew that Stella had got the job.
00:37:14Over the course of the last 12 weeks, what I've seen from you, Stella, is that clearly
00:37:19you are a great organiser of people, well-liked, and I think determined to get on with whatever
00:37:25you're asked to do.
00:37:27I also have taken note of from where you have come.
00:37:31The fact that at an early age you never had all these qualifications and all that type
00:37:35of stuff and then get yourself the job that you've got.
00:37:38And that shows me a lot of determination.
00:37:43Stella, you're hired.
00:37:49Thank you, little sugar.
00:37:52Please welcome the winner of The Apprentice 2010, Stella English.
00:37:59How are you?
00:38:00I'm really well, thank you, Dara.
00:38:01It's a pleasure to have you here.
00:38:04Now, you've been striving for this job for so long.
00:38:07What did it feel like that moment?
00:38:08Oh, it was just everything that I'd been waiting for.
00:38:12I was just so happy.
00:38:13I was just, I was just, I was just free-falling.
00:38:14And I, you know, I nearly burst into tears, I think.
00:38:15Even just now, just watching it back.
00:38:16Really?
00:38:17Yeah.
00:38:18Yeah.
00:38:19I mean, because Chris is a very strong contender.
00:38:20And like, it was a tight final.
00:38:21Yeah.
00:38:22I mean, I felt really proud to be able to stand up to someone like Chris because I think he's
00:38:25really, really good and a very, very credible candidate.
00:38:29So, you know, I was proud to be in the final with him.
00:38:41Okay, Graham.
00:38:43Well, without further ado, why don't we...
00:38:44Well, you know him already, but bring out your new boss, ladies and gentlemen.
00:38:47Please welcome Lord Chugger.
00:38:48APPLAUSE
00:39:15Pleasure to have you here, finally around this desk.
00:39:17That's nice of you, thank you.
00:39:19The invitation was always there, you know.
00:39:21Could drop you in at any stage.
00:39:23Are you happy with your decision?
00:39:25Very happy, yes, very happy indeed.
00:39:27Tough as ever, you know.
00:39:29Two very, very good candidates.
00:39:31We just saw Chris.
00:39:33It just shows you how tough it is for me
00:39:35to come up and make the final decision, really.
00:39:39So why did you choose Stella?
00:39:41What you saw is somebody who's very meticulous,
00:39:44and that's what's needed in this very competitive market.
00:39:48Now, what would you like to say to Chris?
00:39:50Look, the rules are that I give someone a job.
00:39:54Stella's got the job.
00:39:56I will honestly say that if whatever he wants to do afterwards,
00:40:00my doors are always open for Chris to come knocking on them if he wants to.
00:40:04But he certainly has the ingredients, clearly, to go somewhere.
00:40:08And if he doesn't want to come back and knock on my door,
00:40:11I'm pretty sure that he's going to do very, very well in the rest of his life.
00:40:16APPLAUSE
00:40:26Let's go back to today's task.
00:40:28So let's see how you've won this task.
00:40:30It was a little bit hairy, but about two minutes before we pulled up at the place,
00:40:34we came up with a name.
00:40:35Urban mix.
00:40:36Urban mix.
00:40:37Urban mix.
00:40:38Urban mix.
00:40:39Urban mix.
00:40:40Urban mix.
00:40:41U-R-B-O-U-N.
00:40:42This looks brilliant.
00:40:43Oh, wow.
00:40:44I love it.
00:40:45The name is good, but the taste of it was a bit pungent.
00:40:48See, I delegated out to somebody else.
00:40:52That's a bit of a plastic.
00:40:53That is bad, boy.
00:40:54Action.
00:40:55We'll have an urban, please.
00:40:56Can we afford urbans, please?
00:40:57The urban bottle design is slim and chic.
00:40:58They thought it was a kind of a vinegar of some kind.
00:41:01I'm hoping to move out to the country, if this goes well, and...
00:41:06It's quite well considered brand name, a product concept that's much better considered.
00:41:15It's based upon bourbon, and its brand name is very, very clever.
00:41:31It's the new way of drinking bourbon.
00:41:34Let's go and have an urban night.
00:41:36Let's go and have an urban night.
00:41:37Let's go and have an urban night.
00:41:38Now, this is urban.
00:41:39This is the bottle.
00:41:40Have you seen that since, by the way?
00:41:41No.
00:41:42No, it is.
00:41:43I mean, there's nothing actually.
00:41:44But what appeared to you about this?
00:41:46I think I commented that I didn't particularly like the taste too much initially, but then
00:41:51I think it got watered down in a cocktail.
00:41:53You said it was pungent.
00:41:54Yes.
00:41:55There's no one who didn't like it initially.
00:41:57It was pungent.
00:41:58One thing you've learned over the course of this 12 weeks is that I've really, really toned
00:42:03down now.
00:42:04And, you know, I'm trying to be reasonable.
00:42:07Yeah, it was horrible, wasn't it?
00:42:08Yeah.
00:42:09But I think then when it got mixed as a mixer, it started to, you started to warm to it,
00:42:14really.
00:42:15It does look like a vinegar bottle.
00:42:16Did you realize that at the time?
00:42:18No, unfortunately not.
00:42:19That was an association you made?
00:42:21I think we were just so...
00:42:22Olive oil, wasn't it?
00:42:23Olive oil.
00:42:24Olive oil vinegar.
00:42:25Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:42:26Give me my middle fastness.
00:42:29Rose, rose balsamic.
00:42:32Rose balsamic?
00:42:33Come on, I must try that.
00:42:34That's fantastic.
00:42:35We should try that.
00:42:36Yeah, okay.
00:42:37One of those salad parties we're always having.
00:42:39You and I.
00:42:41But no, it is, you know, an urban.
00:42:44There is that moment, by the way, because how late was it you came up with the idea?
00:42:47It was literally a couple of minutes before we pulled up to the design place.
00:42:52We should have had it long before then, because everything else is hinging on that name.
00:42:56But you, I mean, and there is a moment, there's a really nice moment which you rarely see,
00:43:00of somebody going, I am now thinking, thinking is happening, in the background.
00:43:05Thinking has occurred!
00:43:06And then, and it was literally that moment that it just popped into your head.
00:43:10Well, I got quite serious.
00:43:11I got my pad out, and it looked like I was really going to do something, and thank God,
00:43:15you know.
00:43:16That something appeared.
00:43:17It's not a bad name, was it?
00:43:18It's a great name.
00:43:19I genuinely think it's a fantastic name.
00:43:20The fact that it was based on bourbon, I think it was quite a good name, actually.
00:43:23No, I think there is a point where you go urban, and I don't know if other people did,
00:43:26I went, ah, she's won it.
00:43:28I thought that was such a good name.
00:43:31I genuinely think you could sell this.
00:43:32That's not really your business.
00:43:33Were you ever thinking of going into it?
00:43:35No, no, no, no.
00:43:36Not that stuff.
00:43:37No, no.
00:43:38We've got too much spirit in our company.
00:43:40Yeah.
00:43:41Oh, dear.
00:43:42For God's sake.
00:43:43Tough crowd.
00:43:44I know.
00:43:45I know.
00:43:46Stella, for me, you really made your mark way back in week two, as Sir Lord Sugar has
00:43:49already talked about, where you were parachuted in to manage the failing boys team.
00:43:53I'm going to send Stella over to the boys team to keep you in check.
00:43:57I say let us put man and a woman together to find out which one is smarter.
00:44:02I have no problem whatsoever in ripping these boys into shape.
00:44:06If there's any disagreements, you know, I'm just not going to put up with that.
00:44:10Can you imagine, like, some long hand or something put some cream on that?
00:44:14Smarter than demand in every way.
00:44:16Does anyone else have any other ideas?
00:44:19Stella, hold this lot together and stop the more squalling and fighting.
00:44:23We haven't had many arguments at all, really.
00:44:26I'm happy with the decision.
00:44:27We've made it.
00:44:28Let's just move on.
00:44:29Okay?
00:44:30The concept is extremely interesting.
00:44:32I think you've done really, really well.
00:44:34Well done, Stella.
00:44:35Yeah.
00:44:36Just had them under control.
00:44:37There you are.
00:44:38Women power.
00:44:39I've been telling you it for years.
00:44:41I know.
00:44:42Cheers.
00:44:43Cheers.
00:44:44Cheers.
00:44:45It was an important performance, that one though.
00:44:47Very good.
00:44:48Very, very, very good.
00:44:49An excellent performance because, you know, the boys in the first week were a bit of a disaster,
00:44:56to say the least.
00:44:57And were you aware that you were already like a leader at that stage?
00:45:00That it already looked, because you've been praised in week one.
00:45:02Week two, you managed the team quite dramatically well.
00:45:05Were you getting a kind of a tingle of, this is, I'm like a favourite here.
00:45:09No, not at all.
00:45:10I just think, I just dealt with every task as it came along and I really enjoyed being
00:45:15with the boys.
00:45:16It was great fun and they were actually really good to work with.
00:45:18So it was good.
00:45:19It was easy.
00:45:20Wasn't plain sailing with all of the boys.
00:45:21I mean, there are, there are some of them who got quite feisty.
00:45:24I know where you're going with this.
00:45:25Yeah, of course.
00:45:26We all know where I'm going with this.
00:45:27Let's have a look at it again, will we?
00:45:28Guy was trapped in this room with him for ten hours and it was almost like doing time.
00:45:34Stuart, will you just let me do this?
00:45:36I can't, but I'm leading the task so I need to know what's going on.
00:45:38I know but you've, you've just ruined my labels.
00:45:40Stella is, is 31, she's a lot older than me.
00:45:4330 actually.
00:45:44Almost, it was like she was a child and I was actually her parent.
00:45:47So it's funny how the age gap was actually reversed.
00:45:49Just make sure it's going okay.
00:45:51Sorry mum.
00:45:52Stuart was basically useless in the last task.
00:45:56She's not, she's not nice to me.
00:45:58He's, he's of no value.
00:45:59It's an acquired taste.
00:46:03Yes.
00:46:04I like you, but I bloody hate you.
00:46:07Don't get me wrong, I still find Stuart amusing from time to time.
00:46:11We do have one of those love-hate relationships.
00:46:12Yeah.
00:46:13So on the, on the great love-hate square, you know, how's your relationship with Stuart now?
00:46:20Well, you know, he loves me, I hate him.
00:46:22No.
00:46:23I actually love Stuart.
00:46:25I know that you probably don't believe that.
00:46:27I do.
00:46:28He's very, very endearing, but you just want to slap him around a bit now and again.
00:46:32I think that is, you're speaking like the voice of the nation.
00:46:34Errr.
00:46:35Sorry.
00:46:36I'm sorry.
00:46:37But, because you keep bouncing back up again.
00:46:40It's so easy to go.
00:46:41Hey, he's back up again.
00:46:43OK, you always get a strange reputation.
00:46:46I thought unfair reputation as being cold or corporate, because that was your working background.
00:46:50Because if you look back on it, you did do your share of mucking in.
00:46:53Brilliant.
00:46:54Well done.
00:46:55Oh, I don't know.
00:46:56I feel really shy.
00:46:57What should I do?
00:46:58Honestly, you look gorgeous.
00:47:00Coming to our lovely shop.
00:47:04Hi.
00:47:05Hi.
00:47:06It took two men 36 hours to wind up the clock.
00:47:15It would take far less time to wind me up.
00:47:17And I'm sure one man could do it as well.
00:47:20Leave that mother crown.
00:47:21Leave that mother crown.
00:47:22Hey!
00:47:23To this day, any clue of the words of needs of mother brown?
00:47:37Er, no.
00:47:38Please don't ask me.
00:47:39Because it was, let's face it, a terrible tour.
00:47:41It wasn't awful.
00:47:42It wasn't.
00:47:43It was great.
00:47:44I loved it.
00:47:45You walked them around deserted areas, skips.
00:47:47For most of us, like, look at this boarded up shop.
00:47:50Er.
00:47:51And then, is this a Banksy?
00:47:53You were clutching.
00:47:54Er.
00:47:55Any piece of...
00:47:56That just goes to show you how resourceful I am.
00:47:58I was entertaining.
00:47:59They loved it.
00:48:00Trust me.
00:48:01They loved it.
00:48:02We...
00:48:03Shirley, this is one of the more random tasks to get somebody to do this, Shirley.
00:48:06No, look.
00:48:07All these tasks are not meant to be easy.
00:48:10Erm.
00:48:11And, erm, that was not an easy task.
00:48:13No.
00:48:14As you saw.
00:48:15So, it...
00:48:16They're all there to test people on putting them in what...
00:48:19I say is outside of their comfort zone.
00:48:22Because we...
00:48:23We briefly mentioned your background in all this.
00:48:25The work back we know about.
00:48:26You're working for, you know, investment banks or...
00:48:28And in that kind of corporate structure.
00:48:30Er.
00:48:31But it was a...
00:48:32Before that, again, something you alluded to a number of times.
00:48:34Like, at 15, you almost end up sleeping on the street at one stage?
00:48:38It was a...
00:48:39Well, I, you know, had a bit of a tough time and made some mistakes.
00:48:42But I quickly moved on and realised that I needed to go and get a job and get educated.
00:48:47So, that's what I did.
00:48:48We have noticed something that's very important in your life.
00:48:50Because those of you who watched the final five, for example, last week would know that
00:48:53a major old Stella's great aunt has played in her life.
00:48:56I'm telling you that Stella Brockman is with us tonight.
00:48:58Hello, Hawaii.
00:48:59How are you?
00:49:08Stella, I know you've only just found out, as the rest of us have, that Stella has won.
00:49:12What is your reaction?
00:49:13Oh, I'm very proud.
00:49:14Very proud.
00:49:15Very pleased.
00:49:16Did you have any doubt?
00:49:18Er.
00:49:19No.
00:49:20Not really.
00:49:21Not really.
00:49:22She was very determined.
00:49:23She always was.
00:49:24And how lucky is Lord Sugar to have her as an employee?
00:49:27Er.
00:49:28I think he's very, very lucky.
00:49:29I think he'll have a shining beacon in his firm.
00:49:32When he gets there.
00:49:33Ladies and then, Stella Brockman will give her a round as well.
00:49:44Let's talk quite generally, by the way, about the candidates this year.
00:49:47How would you rate them in capacity of the years?
00:49:49This year, we were delayed a bit, but the point is, is that what we thought we would do,
00:49:55is that because of the economic climate out there, we would try to give people from all walks of life the opportunity.
00:50:02So, we would, you know, we had candidates here who had just left education.
00:50:08Um, we had candidates who, regretfully, had been made redundant.
00:50:12Yeah?
00:50:13Um, we had some candidates who had, some of their, who had, actually had their own business.
00:50:18We wanted to mix it up so that we could give people an opportunity.
00:50:21Yeah?
00:50:22Yeah, and that's why the array of candidates was, um, different than we've ever had before.
00:50:28What is your problem with the name Carol, by the way?
00:50:31Every week with the cautious Carol.
00:50:33Er, did you get dumped by a Carol at one stage?
00:50:36No, no, no.
00:50:37Cautious get rhymes, you know, you should know, as a man from Ireland, with your limericks and all that stuff.
00:50:42It just rhymes, you know.
00:50:44Can't have a, a cautious Hillary, can you?
00:50:47Yeah.
00:50:48Sure enough.
00:50:49No, I'll give it that to flourish.
00:50:50It's a linguistic flourish.
00:50:51I know you want to comment on some of the candidates in, in more detail.
00:50:54Let's start with Liz, who was a favourite right from the start.
00:50:57Synergy came in with 3,760 pounds, 37.
00:51:01Oh, well done.
00:51:03Well, you won by 500 pounds, basically.
00:51:06So, well done.
00:51:08Thank you for being a fabulous team.
00:51:11We did really well.
00:51:12Definitely.
00:51:13And cheers to success.
00:51:14Keep it up.
00:51:15Yay!
00:51:16Now, Liz's firing was probably the big surprise moment of the series.
00:51:19Do you look back on it differently now?
00:51:21Again, er, a very bright young lady.
00:51:24Also, very good with the numbers and all that type of stuff.
00:51:27And also, has got a bit of a business brain on her.
00:51:29So, all I can say is, is that, erm, you know, I'm not infallible.
00:51:33Erm, someone pitched up a, a very good pitch.
00:51:36I saw a, a glint in the eye of the, of a young man, er, in an industry that I was in.
00:51:42And it was a decision I made at the time.
00:51:44And possibly a wrong decision.
00:51:46Yeah.
00:51:47Okay.
00:51:48Which may bring us on neatly.
00:51:52To Stuart, who did make an interesting promise to you very early in the process.
00:51:56Yeah, yeah.
00:51:57Why shouldn't I fire you, Stuart?
00:51:58If you give me a hundred grand a year, I will deliver to you ten times that.
00:52:02And if I don't, take it back.
00:52:03I'll give it back to you.
00:52:04A money back guarantee.
00:52:05I'm that confident.
00:52:06I had an offer like that from Nigeria once.
00:52:08But it didn't, er, it didn't transpire.
00:52:11Well, look, I, I'm just going to show you, er, how good I am, erm, for the BBC and for the viewing public out there.
00:52:20Because when he made me that offer, I turned to Nick and I said, that's it, Nick.
00:52:24We're done.
00:52:25Come on, let's go.
00:52:26I've made a million quid.
00:52:28First programme.
00:52:29Let's get out of here now.
00:52:30I've got a hundred grand guaranteed back.
00:52:32A million pound.
00:52:33Let's get out of here right now.
00:52:35And it, and it was Karen who said to me, oh, Alan, please, this is the first time I'm in the show.
00:52:40I want to do the other.
00:52:42I want to do the other eleven ones.
00:52:46So, you know, she convinced me to, er, to carry on.
00:52:50The, er, but you did see something of, I mean, of yourself at one stage in Stuart.
00:52:57I mean, there's, there's, there's fire there behind the eyes.
00:52:59Yeah, look, the young man, er, we've had a lot of fun out of him and, er, he, my, you know, what, what can I say?
00:53:07Um, it's, if, if, if you could, you know, when he opens his mouth, if he could actually cut in half what comes out,
00:53:13um, and the half that does come out, er, makes sense, he's going to go somewhere one day, you know?
00:53:20Stella, you have taught us one very, very important thing, which is don't waste time.
00:53:26Lord Sugar would like you to meet him at the Fashion Retail Academy.
00:53:36Oh, God's sake.
00:53:38Lord Sugar would like you to meet him at Tower 42 in the City of London.
00:53:41LAUGHTER
00:53:45What's with the phone, then? Why, do you do this naturally?
00:53:48Is this what you do all the time with the phone?
00:53:50No, but the thing is, I just have that sense of urgency, I want to get going, let's go, come on.
00:53:55So, slam the phone down, don't waste any time.
00:53:58Oh, goodbye, a simple thank you for the information, er, and I'll get on my day.
00:54:02And then the running up the stairs as well, which is quite good, but er, but you were like,
00:54:05Keaton's mustards are going on with the tasks.
00:54:07Yeah, I didn't want to waste a second.
00:54:09Er, this year, for the first time, Lord Sugar embarked on a search for a junior apprentice.
00:54:13It's an education like no other.
00:54:17What I'm looking for is that killer instinct, that spark of genius.
00:54:21From 28,000 applicants, ten of Britain's best young business minds have come to London.
00:54:27Look at me like the head teacher that you love to hate.
00:54:30Most are still at school.
00:54:32I'm 16, you can't con a young person.
00:54:35All have a burning passion for business.
00:54:37Push the boxes, push the personalisation, push everything we've got.
00:54:40They're here to compete for a life-changing prize worth £25,000 to kickstart a business career.
00:54:48And the junior apprentice candidates are with us tonight.
00:54:51Where are you?
00:54:52Up with the hands, because they're all really young.
00:54:54Give a round of applause, ladies and gentlemen, our junior apprentice family.
00:54:58Why did you want to do this particular show?
00:55:04Well, because the young people of their age group are the biggest fans of, well, I think they're the biggest fans of this show.
00:55:13I believe, apart from the enjoyment and the fun that people get out of the programme, is that it does also instil a culture of enterprise.
00:55:26And I thought that it was necessary to give the youngsters a chance, and I think they did very well.
00:55:32And I think many viewers commented to me that they did as well, if not better in some cases, than the seniors.
00:55:40Well, the prize in the junior is a £25,000 fund to kickstart a building business career.
00:55:44It was won this time by 17-year-old Arjun Rajagor.
00:55:47Arjun, you're the winner of Junior Apprentice 2010.
00:55:53Well done, mate.
00:55:55Thanks.
00:55:56Cheers.
00:55:57Thank you, everybody.
00:56:05Arjun, lovely to have you here.
00:56:07What have you learned from taking part?
00:56:08It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I learned a lot about myself and a lot about everybody else that took part in the process.
00:56:14And you learn how to work with other people and how to work alone at the same time.
00:56:17And it's something that I would tell anybody in the world to do, because it's well worth it.
00:56:21OK, and who should be applying for the Junior Apprentice?
00:56:24Yeah, I mean, they've got to have some kind of flair, an entrepreneurial spirit there, and then some desire to want to eventually have a business of their own.
00:56:34They've just got to be 16 and 17.
00:56:37Round about the same time.
00:56:38You want the exact details, they're on the website, which we'll show you at the end of the programme.
00:56:41This year's Apprentice has generated miles of column inches, radio and television conversations, endless web traffic, and some pretty funny imitations.
00:56:48Let's enjoy a few of those.
00:56:49Yeah, I only watch sort of things like The Apprentice on the English TV.
00:56:54Good choice.
00:56:55Actually, if you don't mind, Dan, just sit up in a conventional way.
00:57:01Have you seen shit that?
00:57:02The new David Bentz.
00:57:03Oh, he puffed himself up like a toad.
00:57:04He went like, he went.
00:57:08It's time for another great Comedy Dave game.
00:57:11Here's The Apprentice Weaves Day, kid. It's the Apprentice Weaves Day.
00:57:15Shibby.
00:57:16He, I think, was the one who said that his first word wasn't mummy.
00:57:19It was money.
00:57:20Get out of the way, Stuart.
00:57:24The Apprentice Weaves Day, a.k.a. the brand, with a telecom position, worth £3 million.
00:57:36It was in my school, I started making my dough, with a £10 box of yo-yos.
00:57:41Massively.
00:57:42Yeah, that's right. Massively. Massively.
00:57:45I don't know if you've been watching The Apprentice.
00:57:47Yeah.
00:57:48Oh, my goodness, with what they call in there, Lord Sugar, now.
00:57:52That's right.
00:57:53It was Sir Dan and Lord, next series would be King Alan, wasn't it?
00:57:55That's a lovely sausage.
00:57:58Wow.
00:57:59Smell it.
00:58:00Oh, wow, wow, that is very big.
00:58:02We watch The Apprentice, You're Fired.
00:58:05We notice that Alex says one phrase, an awful lot.
00:58:08Do you know what? Do you know what?
00:58:10You're fired. You're fired. If I like you, you're like me. You're hired.
00:58:22We couldn't finish tonight without paying our own tribute to Lord Sugar.
00:58:33As ever, you've given us a memorable selection of gems this year.
00:58:36Welcome to my boardroom.
00:58:38On paper, you all look very good.
00:58:41But then again, so does fish and chips.
00:58:45It's sink or swim, and I don't do life jackets.
00:58:47Speak when you've spoken to.
00:58:49Well, domination's taken it a bit far.
00:58:51I think there was a bloke in Germany once who had a bit of problem with that.
00:58:54What is this on here?
00:58:56Posh Spice?
00:58:57Yeah, it's irritating.
00:58:58It's doing a bloody good job irritating me at the moment.
00:59:01It's like watching a bunch of bloody amateurs.
00:59:04You don't have what?
00:59:05My doctor says to me when I've got a headache, take two of these and it might go away.
00:59:10Not no, yes.
00:59:11Clear off.
00:59:12No, you can't say anything.
00:59:13If you're taking so much on board, you sound like a container ship.
00:59:16The Titanic won 12 Oscars, but it weren't a good advert for cruise ships, was it?
00:59:20Have you opened your Christmas crackers earlier this year or what?
00:59:23You remind me of these knock-off DVDs.
00:59:26I'm not asking for shouting and screaming.
00:59:28Great enthusiasm.
00:59:29Fly's got enthusiasm.
00:59:30It doesn't stop head-butting the window.
00:59:32In the mind of patting the headboard, and it's the kick out the arse you should worry about, really.
00:59:37Where's the only binding with that?
00:59:39Just shut up for a minute, will you?
00:59:41I will say one thing which I'd like you to sign on to here.
00:59:46I would have liked to have been a rocket scientist.
00:59:49You have got the top shot, but we do want to give you something just to remember this little show by,
01:00:14and we felt that your sterling work on the tour, your map reading aside,
