00:00In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the Lord be with you.
00:22Welcome to Mass, wherever you might be. We are celebrating today the Feast of St. Ignatius.
00:30A wonderful, extraordinary man. His legacy is the Jesuit Order, of course.
00:39And so we thank Almighty God for the gift of this man.
00:44We pray for the Jesuit Order throughout the world.
00:48And we ask God for that sort of courage and insight that he had.
00:53So let us turn to God's presence for a moment and thank him and ask his pardon.
01:00Lord, you are the giver of life. Lord, have mercy.
01:08Lord, you are our companion on the journey of life. Christ, have mercy.
01:15Lord, you are our model of unconditional love. Lord, have mercy.
01:20May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting.
01:28Let us pray.
01:29O God, who raised up St. Ignatius of Loyola in your church to further the greater glory of your name,
01:41grant that by his help we may imitate him in fighting the good fight on earth
01:46and merit to receive with him a crown in heaven.
01:51Our first reading is from a letter of St. Paul that he wrote to the people of Corinth.
02:08He says,
02:08He says,
02:38For your model as I take Christ for mine.
02:44The word of the Lord.
02:46Our response to the psalm today is
02:52Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
02:57Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
03:00I will bless the Lord at all times.
03:02His praise always on my lips.
03:05In the Lord my soul shall make its boast.
03:07The humble shall hear and be glad.
03:10Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
03:13Glorify the Lord with me.
03:16Together let us praise his name.
03:18I sought the Lord and he answered me.
03:20From all my terrors he set me free.
03:24Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
03:28Look towards him and be radiant.
03:30Let your faces not be abashed.
03:32Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
03:46Revere him to rescue them.
03:48Taste and see the Lord is good.
03:50He is happy.
03:51He seeks refuge in him.
03:54Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
03:58Revere the Lord, you his saints.
04:01They lack nothing who those who revere him.
04:05Strong lions suffer, want and go hungry.
04:09But those who seek the Lord lack no blessing.
04:13Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
04:17We greet the gospel.
04:20Alleluia, alleluia.
04:22Happy the poor in spirit.
04:24The kingdom of heaven is theirs.
04:26Alleluia.
04:27And the Lord be with you.
04:33A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke.
04:40Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way.
04:44And he turned and spoke to them.
04:48If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters,
04:55yes, and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple.
05:02Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
05:09And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and
05:16work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it?
05:19Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work,
05:27the onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying,
05:31here's the man who started to build and was unable to finish.
05:36If not, then, while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace.
06:06So, in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions.
06:15The Gospel of the Lord.
06:25Blessed dear Lord, God of all creation, to your goodness we have received the bread we offer you.
06:31Bread of the earth and work of human hands will become for us the bread of life.
06:36By the mystery of this water and wine, may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
06:43who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
06:46Blessed dear Lord, God of all creation, to your goodness we have received the wine we offer you.
07:03Bread of the vine and work of human hands will become our spiritual drink.
07:07Lord God, we ask you to receive us and be pleased with the sacrifice we offer you of humble and contrite hearts.
07:15Lord, wash away my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
07:26Pray now, my brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
07:32May these offerings that we make to you as we celebrate St. Ignatius be pleasing, Lord God.
07:43And grant that the sacred mysteries which you have made, the fount of all holiness, may sanctify us too in the truth.
07:52And we ask this through Christ our Lord.
07:55The Lord be with you, lift up your hearts, let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
08:04It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, almighty and eternal God.
08:12For you are praised in the company of your saints, and in crowning their merits, you crown your own gifts.
08:21By their way of life, you offer us an example.
08:27By communion with them, you give us companionship.
08:32By their intercession, you give us your support.
08:35So that, encouraged by so great a cloud of witnesses, we may run as victors in the race before us and win with them the imperishable crown of glory through Christ.
08:48And so, with the angels and archangels, with the great multitude of saints, we sing the hymn of your praise, as without end we acclaim.
08:58Holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
09:05Hosanna in the highest.
09:06Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
09:09Hosanna in the highest.
09:11You are indeed holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness.
09:18Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray, by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
09:29At the time he was betrayed and willingly into his passion, he took bread and giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying,
09:39Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body, which will be given up for you.
09:59In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and gave his disciples, saying,
10:11Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
10:18which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
10:22Do this in memory of me.
10:39The mystery of faith, when we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, O Lord, until you come again.
10:52Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation,
11:00giving thanks that you've held us worthy to be in your presence and to minister to you.
11:06Humbly we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ, we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
11:15Remember, Lord, your church spread throughout the world.
11:18Bring her to the fullest of charity, together, with Leo, our Pope, Charles, our Bishop, all the clergy, and the whole of God's people.
11:29Remember also, our brothers and sisters, who have fallen asleep in the hope of a resurrection.
11:35All who have died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.
11:41Have mercy on us all, we pray, with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, St. Joseph, the spouse, the blessed Apostles, and all the saints,
11:50who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life.
11:57And may praise and glorify you through your Son, Jesus Christ.
12:01Through him, and with him, and in him, O God Almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
12:10all glory and honour is yours, forever and ever.
12:16Let us pray together now the beautiful prayer that Jesus taught us to pray.
12:21Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
12:26Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
12:31Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
12:36as we forgive those who trespass against us.
12:39And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
12:43Goodness, Lord, we pray from every evil, graciously grant peace in our day.
12:49And by the help of your mercy, we'll be always free from sin and safe from all distress,
12:56as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
13:03For the kingdom and the power and the glory are yours, and now and forever.
13:07Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles,
13:15Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.
13:18Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church,
13:22and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.
13:27To live and reign forever and ever.
13:30The peace of the Lord be with you always.
13:32Let us offer each other a sign of peace.
13:36Peace now, wherever you might be.
13:41Lamb of God.
14:02Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
14:11Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
14:15Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof.
14:19But only say the word, and my soul shall be healed.
14:23My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament.
14:30I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul.
14:35Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
14:38comedly, spiritually, into my heart,
14:41I embrace you as if you were already there,
14:44and unite myself wholly to you.
14:46Never permit me to be separated from you.
14:49Amen.
14:50Let us pray.
14:56May the sacrifice of praise that we have offered with thanksgiving,
15:01in honour of Saint Ignatius, O Lord,
15:04bring us to exalt your majesty without end.
15:08And we ask this through Christ our Lord.
15:12The Lord be with you.
15:14May Almighty God bless you,
15:16the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
15:18Let us go in peace, love, and serve the Lord.
